Give me Matt Belemey desperate vocals and I'm just gone. It is _possible_ the lyrics aren't quite as deep as 14 year old me thought they were, but sonically just so dramatic and in tune with the lyrical styling, and so much fun. Sure muse have a formula, but it's the formula for me.
I enjoyed this a lot, but I couldn't shake the feeling it was just a bit to engineered.
I really enjoy discovering the environmental message of these 80s hip hop
Rock star is a tune!
I totally forgot something in the way was on this one - I remember hearing that apparently when they were recording this Cobain just kept asking that the vocal be made quieter and quieter until it was barely audible. I really like the range between smells like teen spirit and something in the way. It goes a bit too grungey in the middle for me though.
One is still great even though I guess I've heard it hundreds of times. There are some good songs I guess just listened to too much of this kind of music it doesn't really move me
Good for listening to in the sun. I remember the wailers (sans Bob marley) playing at my local music festival - guilfest - and for their entire set there was just a sea of people bopping in time, even people just walking about not paying attention
Well the art works good at least
It's interesting hearing the roots of joy division and the cure but didn't really think too much of the album, and the second to last song was super out of place
It was quite enjoyable but nothing really stand out
Liked it - particularly children play with earth
Love that rich sound
Absolutely nothing memorable or interesting?
Weird, interesting and really good
Got to be in the right mood, enjoyed it yesterday but didn't like it so much today
I kind of want to give this another go, as I fear I wasn't listening carefully enough...
One of the better OK albums
Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to!
Very "great local band" vibe tbh
I liked it tbh
Didn't make much of an impression
Thirsty af
So good.
Some good songs but not much variety within the album
Rock star is a tune!
Felt like it took the whole album to get going and then it stopped.
The forest is so good
This album was pretty blasé until mother...
A fun horny masterpiece
Love dat 12 string guitar sound.
Some nice sounds
Some good songs, particularly you don't own me, but otherwise fairly standard fair.
Great fun, but a bit long and samey for listening without access to a mosh pit... Also, not a real album.
Lots of good songs
Baba o'riley is a masterpiece, the rest of the album is fine...
Silky smooth voice, reminds me a lot of Richard Hawley
Slow like honey could be a James bond theme song.
I really doubt I needed to listen to this before I died...
Bit weird that anti racist is also the Disney song writer
It's a sin is brill, everything else made me yawn
Couldn't make it past track 4
I guess I'd never listened to any sound garden as I did not know Cornell was the singer. I also didn't know that audioslave is most of ratm. So I learnt a lot?
I really enjoy discovering the environmental message of these 80s hip hop
Swerved erratically between great and rubbish
Really enjoyed the fun beats and the swagger
I accidentally listened to like a mega duleux version which really dragged on which might be influencing my rating.
Yes, you're very moody.
I did not jive with this
The voice of an angel
Yeezy taught me.
I liked it, but it dragged on a bit
Mmmm, first time music making me feel this way, damn.
Some awesome songs, but lots of filler imo. Though I did not listen to the back half ..
I listened to this in two sittings. On the first sitting I hated the maggot brain solo, but enjoyed the other stuff. But on the second sitting, I loved the alternate mix of maggot brain. Perhaps I just needed some warm up before the solo 😂
I enjoyed the music but the lyrciss were a bit basic.
Yup perfect. Thanks.
Meh I did quite like dancing to it, but also kind of bored by it the entire time
I guess it is a taste thing but I really did not like this.
I object primarily to it being a live album.
I never want to become a person who doesn't think 'get on your dancing shoes, you sexy little swine' is not a brilliant lyric to open a song with. This is essentially the soundtrack to my first year at university. I have a great memory of my friend whose American and really into AM get so excited the first time we got in a taxi and he saw the "red lights indicate doors are secure" sticker!
For some reason I thought this was Syd Barrett and was expecting something very different
Love that warm electric guitar sound.
It's hot, but not as good as I was expecting, and I listened to it in a bath so pretty optimal conditions...
Didn't do much for me, sorry.
The lyrcis are not inspired, but the songs are great. Remember seeing them live and it was my first introduction to a hype man!
Eh I like flaming lips but found this a bit too mopey.
Moments of 2⭐ moments of 4⭐ so somehow this doesn't seem like the right rating, sue me.
It's great, but honestly a bit samey for me to give it the full 5
It's a good record, I think if it was half as long I would have given it 5 without blinking.
Could only be improved if it was called the album.
I honestly have mostly forgot what I thought of this.
Dunno why I've never listened to this before.
Down voted on principle of being a live album
Eh a bit too mopey for me (or at least the mood I was in)
Some deeply sexy songs on here, but it isn't as good as lemonade imo
It is what is is, yo.
What more could you ask for from an album, a hit song about the essence of love and a song that brings deep seated dread.
Off the wall.
Started strong but sort of fizzled out?
I should have maybe paid more attention to this band the first time round
It's good for what it is.
Yeah it was good. I liked the lo fi tracks.
I did listen but don't really have any strong thoughts about it - perhaps I wasn't listening enough.
It started out really strong, I feel like it faded, but it was still pretty good.
It's got some great songs but what is going on with the new york song at the end, is it just classic homophobia or am I missing something? 🤔
Lyrics are a bit of their time, but it was a fun listen.
Very solid but nothing stood out?
Every Tom Waits song reminds me of the Wire, but I dig his voice and moody tunes.
From the first crash of starlings all the way to the triumph of one day like this, beautiful songs with clever lyrics.
Well the lyrics are uninspired but the beats a really cool.
I'd never really seen it before, but I think you can really clearly see the influence of Kate Bush on St Vincent on this record.
I enjoyed this a lot, but I couldn't shake the feeling it was just a bit to engineered.
Barely noticed this album was on.
Reminded me of u2 in good and bad ways
Say what you like about this album, you can't argue with its duration
I guess it is for someone, but not for me.
I had forgot about albums with silences at the end of them! Definitely a nostalgia hit for me, went in very sceptical that is required listening, but it is an album that knows what it is.
Never heard this before - so good.
Great opening half and then I felt like it just petered out. Not the first album I think I'd have given it 5⭐ if it was half as long...
Eh some good bits quite a lot of very meh bits
Good and sexy.
Every song is fun and catchy, but the whole album is a bit over produced for me. Clean is a fantastic song though imo. Shame there isn't yet a taylor version so felt bad listening to this.
Just sort of washed over me tbh
I remember enjoying it but then forgot to review so now I have nothing interesting to write here.
I've really got out of the swing of this. I definitely did listen to this but I remember nothing so going to go with a safe 3
Good fun, faded out after superstition though imo
The opening two songs are really great but then it must drones on...
I found the lyrics to this touching in quite an unexpected way. And ofc great bjork sounds.
Dunno why but absolutely could not stand this. Didn't get through it. The audio equivalent of waiting for a drunk to get to the point, only for them to not have one.
Good energy, but definitely suffered from opening with the best song.
Delightful
One of my all time favourite albums. Can't listen to the last song loud enough.
It's cool how they got to try out lots of different styles, but I didn't really think any of them clicked.
Great songs but I'm very over the vibe of life is empty meaninglessness.
