1001 Albums Summary

Not normally a fan of Kanye, but can hear why this made it into the 1001 list, great album, just a pity about the personality.

Solid album, not my favourite from Prince though.

What needs to be said... Just an amazing record from start to finish.

One of the definitive punk albums. Best musicianship, no; best recording, no; but is it greater than the sum of all these parts, yes.

Negatives - it's "hair rock", it's cheesy AF Postives - you know all the words, its catchy, sounds good loud, and just leaves you happy..... (all assuming you are of the appropriate age and demographic - which I am).

Never heard of her before, but very much enjoyed the album - will be definitely added to the list of ones I will be listening to again.

It's a good album, and there are a couple of good songs, but just overall not something I enjoy.

So close to a 5, this is arguably a genre starting/defining album.

Took me a bit, to realise just who this was, but the more I listened the more I felt I was there.

Would give this 3.5 if it was an option, but cannot in my heart round that down to a 3, so it's up to a 4 (but only just).

One classic song, and a lot of synth pop not to my taste.

Definitely a great album, and fantastic recording. However nothing about this justifies a 4 from me, though it is close.

Can see why it would appeal to some, but for me this is a no....

This was a little bit out of left field. Definitely can see this as very divisive, but personally I really enjoyed it (but then I like avant garde jazz and psychedelic rock). I want to give it a 4.5, but that's not an option.

Want to say 3.5, but that's not an option and in this case I have to round up as it quite enjoyable album.

Not really my taste, and would probably only give this a 2.5 if I could, but I can't in good faith give it a 2, despite the fact I'll never probably listen to it again.

To quote a younger generation "I just can't.....". I tried to listen through this, and although I can't say I hate it, I just kept reaching for "skip" for so many songs, just nothing grabbed me.

Not really a country fan, but I did enjoy this enough to give it a 3, even if I may never choose to listen to it again.

Absolutely of it's time, but still a great album that a solid 3.5 deserves to be rounded up.

Not ever listened to a lot of Depeche Mode (and in particular this album), but enjoyed this and will definitely listen to it again.

I want to give it a 3, but it's just a bit "lacking something" for me - maybe will improve over time, but I can't see myself wanting to choose this

The complications of this involving going to Sth Africa during Apartheid and appropriating music of an at that time very oppressed people just makes this stick in my throat. That said musically it's inspired, but I can't give this anymore than a 2.

Enjoyable, reminds me of playing the game "Tropico", but overall quite enjoyable but still not a 4 for me.

Very much wavering here between a 3 and 4, it's a milestone album for it's genre, but some of the subject matter and the attitudes expressed have not aged well (not that they were necessarily okay at the time either).

Would give this a 2.5, but given our 5 star scale it deserves a 3, despite it not being an album I'd add to my rotation

Was leaning to giving it 3 stars, then realised it had stopped playing about 10 minutes ago, and I hadn't even noticed... so it's a 2 for me.

It's no "London Calling"; it's a solid 3.5 but in this case it's down to 3 stars, as I just don't feel that overall it warrants a 4.

3.5, but "Smoke on the water", "Highway Star" and "Space Trucking" just have to push this up to a 4.

Was not expecting to enjoy this as mush as I did, some of these covers almost feel like the original was the cover.

This is a 4.5 and I was tempted to just give this a 4, but I found myself choosing to play this again more than once before getting round to rating it - so it's a 5.

Will never forget hearing the title song as a young child watching the Young Ones; at which point it cemented itself as one of my favourite songs (despite the ludicrous lyrics) of all time.

Was not exactly a fan as a teenager, given my predeliction for hard and heavy music, but listening to it in full for the first time I was suprised how many songs I did know, and just the quality of the "pop".

It's not bad, but it's not 'good' either (at least for my tastes). It's a 2.5, but in this case I'm rounding down. Maybe I'd change my mind on a few more listens, but I somehow down this will even get that chance.

Definitely wavered between giving this a 4 or 5, 4.5 would be the most accurate. Ultimately though, this is a classic album and deseves the benefits of swedish rounding.

Like Clash's London Calling that came up a day or two ago, I want to give this a 4.5, but I can't. Again, this is a classic album, and in this case it was definitely a soundtrack to a part of my life long gone - so for that it gets the benefit of Swedish rounding.
