White Light by Gene Clark

This is the album that made me think that maybe there aren't 1001 albums worth listening to.

Everything on this album has been done better by someone else and where it has been done better it fits within the context of the album it’s found on. This sounds more like a resume to showcase the range of the artist.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra

He sounds like someone trying to sing to sound cool while simultaneously being too concerned about not being cool doing it. I never got the appeal. I often find that the inflections he puts on phrases don't match what he's singing about. It sounds like it's about him not about the song.

Ok so I thought, oh great I guess I'm supposed to rate this highly. To my surprise this album was filled with quality songs, not only the ones I, and everybody, knew but gems like Any Time At All and I'll Be Back, songs which might not have been hits at the time but stand up against time. On every track you can hear The Beatles give everything they have making the whole album an absolute treasure.

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Dec 22 2022

Great poetry put to good music.

Superunknown by Soundgarden

The Led Zepplin of the 90's, probably better. Still don't like it.

It was good at the time, it stands up pretty well, unfortunately I can only rate out of five stars and five has to equal 100%, very few albums are worthy in my opinion. This one misses out on a four star by very little but, for me, not worthy in the category below perfection.

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Mar 15 2023

You know, if Tom Waits filmed himself taking a dump, I wouldn't want to watch it. Listening to part of this album feels like the auditory parallel of what I just described. Too much of this album sounds like Tom figuring out how the rest of it is going to sound and when he does figure it out we're served songs that might be a 3.5 at best.

American Idiot by Green Day
Mar 16 2023

There were some wonderful moments in the 90s, but some of the 90s make me think we shouldn't do them again. Green day sound like a leftover of that part of the 90s. I'm not sure how this style of music earned the moniker of punk, highly processed and produced it doesn't relate to original punk music, from either the UK or the US. I gritted my teeth and listended attently, I even thought some of it was OK but there's nothing here that I thought was a breakthrough, musically or culturally, just a band doing their thing for as long as someone is still listening. Not me, I'm not playing this album again.
