After The Gold Rush
Neil YoungWent in expecting to hate it based on Neil's other work on this list. Didn't hate it. Didn't really like it either. I just don't really like his voice. It's whiny and grating.

Epic as fuck, but forgettable
Huh, I wonder why I've never heard of any of these songs besides the title track? Oh, they're all shitty blues songs made by an Englishman.
Crazy that this came out in 1990... Still relevant
This is part of the reason I think 80s music sucks. It's just obnoxious. Shitty singing, bland repetitive music, it's not good.
The guitars sing better than the vocalist. Mixing is pretty bad for a commercially released album. Really great riffs throughout.
All the songs are pretty samey. Not too bad, but not my cup of tea.
Front half is super great, back half not as much.
Crazy that this came out in 1990... Still relevant
Unbelievably good album. Not only are the songs so great, but the recording is one of the best live albums ever made. The balance of the crowd noise and the instrumentation is masterful. No individual sound overpowers the others, and it's hard to believe this was done live there are so few mistakes. 10/10 this is fantastic.
It's not really my speed but it's really well made.
Fantastic! And You and I is up there man... Really loved this.
Don't know if it's just my mood but this doesn't really vibe with me at all.
Fantastic trip hop album, can't believe I'd never heard of it before
A lot more punk rock than I remembered. Great way to kick off a project. Del kinda hard carries though.
not really my style
Classic.
This is part of the reason I think 80s music sucks. It's just obnoxious. Shitty singing, bland repetitive music, it's not good.
The songs are all pretty good, but it's all the same song.
This album's in a category of its own. I was raised on this. Brings back great memories of my childhood. Banger after banger after banger. Love it.
Very fun record
It's fine. He sounds nice, but the songs are fairly bland.
Not bad!
It's a lot more interesting to me hearing the source of inspiration for so many other artists than it is as a music album. I'm sure they put on a great show
A nice timecapsule of mid 80s rap music.
Sounds like the kinda guy who would stab himself in the chest
Amazing. Every time I think the album is a certain way, it surprises me. A timeless classic. Many artists would kill for their best song to be as good as the worst song on this album.
It's fine. Never been a big Paul fan.
The album's namesake and Paradise by the Dashboard Light are definite high points. Could take or leave the rest though.
trash. Sounds like shit all around. Vocals: shit, instrumentation: shit, mixing: shit.
Fairly bland.
another album that's more important than it is good. You can hear the influence drip from every orifice, but it doesn't really sound that great.
Kinda drags by the end, but decent enough.
It's pretty dang good.
Eh. It's okay. I can see why it's not really widely played these days unlike the albums it takes such heavy influence. It's forgettable and doesn't stand up to its contemporaries. It just feels the whole time like they wish they were lynyrd skynyrd or CCR, and that makes me wish I was listening to those artists instead.
Really not my cup of tea at all.
I mean what else is there to say about this one? It's a classic.
Not bad. It really starts to wear its welcome thin by the end though.
He's got a really great voice and some good lyrics.
not my tempo
Pretty good!
It's overly long and repetitive.
Boring
Classic. Love it.
Little hit or miss but the hits are great. Really love Mr Grieves.
Why the hell did they go so fucking hard for a movie sound track? Perfect background music for almost anything.
Crazy that she was 18/19 recording this. Required listening for hip hop fans. Fantastic.
It's okay. Not really my kind of music but I like it enough for what it is.
It really doesn't get better than this for southern rock music.
It's simply beautiful. Love it.
How the fuck was this main stream music ever? It's so weird and lovely and deep and beautiful that it doesn't makes sense that the masses would enjoy it in any way.
Really good rock album. Fun to dance to.
Lot of great jams.
Love this. Can't believe I skipped it when it came out.
Pretty middle of the road to me. It was nice to listen to but fairly forgettable.
A fantastic jazz album absolutely ruined by maybe the worst vocalist I've ever heard. And somehow the vocalists name is on the album and not any of the actual talent involved. Downtown could have been an amazing track and then this fucking asshole comes on and just shits all over himself
Doesn't really do anything for me. It's fine.
It's okay. The highs are high, but the rest of the album is kinda forgettable. Gossip folks still slaps so hard though
This is really good!
Starts off really good, but kinda goes off the rails in the back half.
There's some catchy bops on here but like most 80s music it just starts to wear down on me until I end up hating it.
If I had heard this for the first time when I was like 15 it would probably be one of my favs ever. Doesn't quite resonate like that any more, but it's pretty good.
It's really good! Not quite as good as songs in the key of life so I guess I'll give it a 4 instead of a 5.
The title track is a classic for a reason, but the rest of the album is the same tired song that just keeps going over and over with very little going on.
Love it. One of the best albums ever made.
They still hadn't figured it all out yet but it's still pretty good
Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this, but it was not vibing with me.
Great! Fun to listen to all around really solid album
Not for me.
It's kinda of boring to listen to. The song writing is well done, but the music just plodders along, and any time it picks up a bit or there's some interesting sounds building up the song ends and it's back to plodding...
Really beautiful.
I'm glad their sound evolved beyond this.
Besides the singles it's incredibly forgettable.
One hit wonder makes a record. It has one good song. whodathunk.
Front half is pretty good, Girl is one of the creepiest songs I've ever listened to, and then the album truly goes off the rails.
Album so good it spawned a genre overnight. Love every single track on this. Fantastic. Masterpiece.
How did this talentless hack fraud become famous?
It's very beatles-esque but with a nice zane to it
Really great. It seems weird to me that only Bill Evans gets his name on the Trio, the bass and drums are both as good if not better than his piano.
This kind of music isn't my cup of tea, but it's ok.
Title track is a great song, the rest of the album is fine.
Maybe I would enjoy this more as a bored teenager, but as a 30 year old it's all kinda samey
Not quite as good as their other work in my opinion
Not bad! Some real sappy stuff but also some pretty great songs.
It doesn't make sense that a whole album can be this good and complete. Not only is every song great, they're all timeless classics. Entire A side is banger after banger until the melancholy intermission in songbird before B side is banger after banger. Hard to call an album perfect but this is really close. Masterpiece.
It's OK
Pretty good. Good songwriting, good voice. Big fan
The actual fever dream ramblings of a drunkard. I just can't understand why it's lauded.
Besides message in a bottle it's pretty forgettable
Not a fan. Take it easy is alright, the rest is bleh.
2 good songs and a bunch of shit
Dogshit saccharin pop music. Sounds like it was written by a 12 year old. Unbelievable how much people like this.
Fucking masterpiece.
Surprisingly good throughout.
Sounds like a good album to fuck to, but it's kinda weird to just sit around and listen to it.
They kinda get lost in the sauce during pursuance, but the rest is 10/10.
It's not bad, but by the end I was really glad it was over. Just a super harsh, grating sound that doesn't hold on well.
Funny how Mirwais made 2 albums this year and this was the worse one.
Quite a few covers that I don't think are the best versions, but still really good. Funnily Respect is his, but isn't done best by him. Overall a good listen.
Went in expecting to hate it based on Neil's other work on this list. Didn't hate it. Didn't really like it either. I just don't really like his voice. It's whiny and grating.
Surprisingly fantastic. Every song is good. Love it.
It starts off with a bang, but kinda fizzles through side 1. Side 2 is better, but it's not as good as their other albums in my mind.
It's not really my kinda album. None of the songs are bad, but as a whole it just got really old by the end.
Not bad!
It's OK. Not particularly my sound.
It's alright at the start. It's kinda boring, then Murder mystery comes in and bloviates for 9 fucking minutes and really left a bad taste in my mouth
The vocals get on my nerves. The playing isn't very good either.
Some really high notes, but also way too long and while it does experiment it spends way too much time falling back on safe sounds.
Not bad!
It's okay. The title track is easily the best song.
Fairly fun listen.
Super fun! Gonna have a bunch of these stuck in my head.
It's OK. more misses than hits but the hits are pretty good.
Not bad. Catchy, but kinda boring.
Could take it or leave it. I respect it more than I actually like to listen to it.
Not for me
Used to really hate the Beatles, but hearing their contemporaries made me appreciate them a little more. This is way ahead of its years, but I still don't like it.
Groovy as fuck but kinda forgettable
L O V E This is music. Happy that everyone that goes through this list has to stop through the groove station. Pure Groove.
Epic as fuck, but forgettable
This is INSANELY 80s I fucking hate that but I guess a bunch of people would love it.
This is what this list is all about. I never would have heard of this album otherwise and it's fantastic. Don't understand a word, but I vibe with every minute of it
It's OK I guess. It's not really my kinda music.
Not only is the whole album way too long, but each song goes on way longer than they should. I mean 1999 has 2 straight minutes of the same annoying riff while people chant "party!" with no change or anything interesting happening. Some of these songs could be decent enough as tight 3min fun pop songs, but instead they're 9 fucking minutes.
Not bad. I can really hear a bunch of influence from this on something like Guerilla Talk's new album.
Pretty good, I never really knew Joni Mitchell did more produced work. For some reason I always thought she was just an acoustic guitar and singing kind of act.
Not for me. I prefer singers who can actually sing.
It's like if the Beatles tried to be kind of edgy or something. Somehow makes them sound even *worse* than the Beatles
I really hate this record.
Quite good.
Crap.
Really great! Instrumentation is fantastic, the bass is really killer. Drummer is great too!
Trash.
Pretty good, the middle kinda drags tho
Pretty interesting, but not my favorite sound.
Solid record. My God is bloated but I enjoyed the rest pretty well.
It's wild that Beatles mania was so powerful that all these awful knockoff copycat acts all became popular and well regarded. It's trash.
As a whole not as good as I remember but the singles will forever remain classic
The whole time I thought this album was just on the list because of Tom's Diner and then to my surprise the album ended and Tom's Diner isn't even on this one. Fairly boring
Surprisingly enjoyable!
Not for me. Noisy and aimless without doing anything valuable. Whenever it comes together to do something interesting it says "fuck that" and goes off on something else.
dogshit 80s music. "Oh wow synths were just invented let's fucking forget musical composition and make bullshit fucking trash and call it music because we put a simpleton's interpretation of an electronic beat on it." Actual trash I can't believe these hack frauds became famous for this horseshit. Also it sounds like the singer wants to rape people and I hope he gets what he wished on others.
Not for me at all.
Pretty cringe anymore
The title track is a classic. But the rest of the tracks don't have near as interesting song structure or the insanely catchy riffs so a whole hour of it is kinda wearing.
Meh.
Decent. Not really my vibe though.
Title track is an all time classic. The rest is pretty decent covers of already great tracks.
fantastic!
Not bad. Not very memorable either, but it was a decent enough listen.
It's crazy how much they rip off Kraftwerk's general sound while making it sound stupid.
Classic. Perfect late night road trip music
Not really a sound I enjoy.
It's OK
Very groovy. Loved it on a rainy day. Would love to drive around at night to this music
Super groovy album. Would never have heard of it without this list!
Classic. Can't be an Okie and give this less than a 4. Grew up on this music.
It's trying way too hard to be music that I don't like. Most of the songs sound the same and it gets old by the end too.
Pretty good live album.
The irony of a record about the plight of the poor in modern America created by label executives on behalf of a mega rich silver spoon artist who had her life managed from the age of 5.
Eh. He's OK. I don't get the appeal. Most of the songs are covers and not as good as the original versions. Pretty wild that you could be the most famous artist in the world back then doing other people's songs worse than they did.
Every one of these songs sounds like it could be the theme song of a 70s sitcom.
Some really great tunes but also a bunch of meh filler.
Classic. Love every minute of it.
I just don't understand the appeal at all. The voice isn't particularly good or interesting, the production is typical 80s trash, the songs aren't fun to listen to, it's not really dance-able. There's nothing to like.
at least it was short I guess.
Huh, I wonder why I've never heard of any of these songs besides the title track? Oh, they're all shitty blues songs made by an Englishman.
I quite liked that!
Really great album. Love that it doesn't overstay its welcome. Just a nice collection of songs.
Completely not my vibe.
Pretty great album.
Definitely a mood. Just not really my mood most the time. Pretty dece tho
It's amazing to me the culture shift in country music since waylon and billy joe. Miss this.
I can appreciate that this is many people's favorite album ever, but it's not really for me. But Breaking the law breaking the law is dang fun
Not quite perfect to me, a couple misses. But god damn it's so good
The first 2 tracks are fantastic but it kind of falls apart from there.
Really influential and I can appreciate that, but it's not really my taste so by the end I was really done listening to this album.
Very catchy!
I don't really like the skits.
The story about the album is more interesting to me than the music.
Beautiful! Really enjoyed this.
Starts strong but I don't really vibe with the album as a whole.
Another of many on this list that is seemingly on the list for having 1 immensely popular song on it. But this isn't 1001 best singles you should hear before you die, it's 1001 albums, and as an album I found this lacking.
early IDM really hits different.
Really great punk rock album. Maybe a little long, but it's hard to want to cut anything so maybe not.
Not bad. Not upset I heard it but probably will not listen to this again.
