Killing Joke
Killing Jokenot horrible, but very repetitive. not a lot that sticks out as really good or memorable. lyrics can be interesting but still repetitive. had no desire to listen to the re-issue bonus tracks
not horrible, but very repetitive. not a lot that sticks out as really good or memorable. lyrics can be interesting but still repetitive. had no desire to listen to the re-issue bonus tracks
just because an album is weird, doesn't mean it should be on this list. all the elements are decent enough but they do not work together at all. the singer is especially terrible, no singing, just talking and raising or lowering his volume occasionally
personally don't like reggae and this did not help, just entirely dull and boring
some good songs and sounds but overall most of it sounds about the same. none of the hard hitting electronic sounds of modern electronic music
great hip-hop sounds, some songs didn't hit but overall very solid
didn't think I would get into it but a lot of the songs ended up being a lot of fun, great vocals as expected
chill, good garage rock sound, not a lot of very catchy songs or strong energy
the singer can barely sing, very little musicality in the voice, which is a shame cause the guitar is pretty solid. marquee moon is a great sounding song that is way too long. most of the songs are too long
some real hidden gems in here, the talking "songs" kinda throw off the flow but overall unique and fun
Pretty terrible, especially compared to the standard of today's electronic music
guitar and indie rock sound are solid, clearly see why they were influential. but songs are almost too long to be enjoyable and singing is pretty rough
unexpectedly pop oriented given that their rock sounds are more famous. overall solid, nothing spectacular but enjoyable to listen to in the background
the first 5 minutes of the first song are truly horrible in such a way that it distorts how the rest of the album can be perceived. there are some very solid instrumental sections, but Bowie always had a very moaning-like sound and personally never understood why people liked it, he has a couple great songs but there are none here.
not my favorite genre but overall excellent execution. although not particularly memorable, provides very easy listening and a lot to enjoy
lot of respect for this album, lot of intriguing sequences, but it seemed like most songs had one or two parts that were grating or were too inconsistent. overall did not click but certainly some great ideas here
great song writing, some songs stick with you longer than others and a couple don't hit personally
sounds aren't bad but they aren't particularly captivating either. a few interesting songs here but nothing particularly memorable either. overall just average
pretty sounds, but hard to listen to overall for an extended period. singing is nice just not particularly engaging. folk is just not my favorite genre but can see the appeal
besides the political commentary about the drug war, there's very little interesting here. reggae has always failed to capture my attention because the singing is subpar and all the songs sound the same. maybe if I liked drugs I would like this more
no idea what I'm listening to and maybe that's the point, but it certainly doesn't sound very good. conceptually interesting and some decent sounds, but hard to imagine anyone listening to this seriously. certainly an instance where the writers of the 1001 book included this as a novelty rather than an actually good album
don't think it's one of the best Beatles albums but still incredible album, some songs were a little too short and sweet but overall the consistency of high quality music and fun songs really makes this one a must listen
riders of the storm is great, half are fine, and the rest are very monotonous
this album is a tragedy because while the band is killing it, the singer is trying to kill me. the voice is terribly monotonous with little to no musicality, and the lyrics are bland as well. such a shame to waste the band's talents on this album, without them this would be a 1
easily one of the greatest albums of all time
Seven Nation Army will stand as one of the most recognizable songs ever. Overall album was excellent with the exception of the acoustic songs which personally did not enjoy.
not terrible sounding but personally no desire to ever listen to French metal
truly surprised by this band, great singing and instrumentals throughout. a couple songs might be a little too long but the powerful singing is awesome to listen to. missing a true, catchy jam but still a great surprise on this list
listened to the Iggy Mix, very solid instrumentals, distortion could be a little too heavy sometimes. can certainly see why it's an influential album in punk, but overall most of the songs are too similar to each other
thematically very interesting with a unique vibe and solid instrumentals, the singing seems designed to hide a lack of singing ability, while interesting there's not a lot of memorable or catchy songs
instrumentals are pretty solid but there is no musicality in the singing, tough to listen to unless truly in the mood for heavy metal
had low expectations but was absolutely blown away by how good the vocals and instrumentals were, super easy listening (occasionally a little too slow personally) but overall a beautiful album
some good songs but overall seems to be lacking creativity in lyrics. lot of solid beats but most songs just aren't particularly fun or interesting
some great songs in here, whole band sounds good throughout. slightly faltered at the end but It's The End Of The World and The One I Love are both exceptional
Lot of respect for him and his music, but personally nothing about reggae clicks. Couldn't finish a single song without getting bored. Calling themselves the Wailers is very accurate.
hauntingly beautiful, a few songs may be a little too slow personally but the guitar and singing are awesome together, his voice is going a little bit but few voices are as iconic as his
the hits are incredible, the rest is fine but nothing really stands out, slower than expected
pretty dull and forgettable, sounds like her voice is mostly gone. the synthesizers are fine but do not match her voice
strange and beautiful, unique and sad, really promotes introspective thought if you let it. do you realize is one of the greatest psychedelic songs ever
some really great sounds throughout, unfortunately I think too many songs are too long to be listened to casually
not terrible but pretty bland, got old and repetitive quickly. singing skill is there, but every song is entirely forgettable and they all sound the same
there are some good sounds and ideas in here, but it all feels like buildup without proper resolution. as such, the whole album comes off as bland and forgettable
Sadder than expected, and honestly a bit underwhelming. Typical Beach Boys sounds but only Wouldn't It Be Nice is very memorable
sound mixing makes it hard to hear the singer sometimes. there's some bland stuff in here, but there's also a lot of excellent guitar riffs and catchy tunes. pleasantly surprised by most songs even if nothing blew me away
Lot of potential in the talent that seems wasted. The beats are largely dry and repetitive, and there's little to no inflection or energy in the singing
true metal music, understandable if others can't get into it, the vocals especially can be a bit grating at times, but the intensity is handled extremely well with absolute headbanging music
some really talented musicians that make music that's not fun, not interesting to listen to, and gives you nothing to look forward to. just an extremely difficult genre to listen to personally
A couple songs don't work for me, but the overall strength of the album and the perfection of many songs makes this undoubtedly one of the greatest albums ever
some songs are hit or miss, but the musical production is excellent. the inclusion of the electric guitar sections really elevate the music. some songs have extended slow portions which lose some of the power in the singing
starts off strong with some excellent songs, tapers off a little by the end but still a lot of fun songs throughout. the slow songs don't really work for me
pretty solid, although most songs seem to go a minute longer than necessary.
songs are short and sweet, definitely a bit hit or miss. however it is obvious that this band and album were inspirational for many rock and roll bands to come. I would give it a 3 if it wasn't foundational to music today
some songs are a bit too slow, but most of the album is easy listening with solid tunes, very relaxing to listen to
the band is doing a great job while the lead singer is near unlistenable. most of the songs sound the same, which is to say the album was tough to pay attention to
pop and synth sounds are solid and unapologetically British, but the singer is absolutely terrible and ruins most of the album
can be a bit heavy on the distortion, but the sound isn't bad. the real problem is the album is entirely forgettable, even if the idea of a rock opera is cool and the execution is decent
production and composition are excellent, especially the transitions. the variety of themes in the lyrics can be a bit jarring, and some songs are a bit longer than necessary. overall really strong album, but it's missing songs that are simply catchy
Jazz has plenty of talent but there's a reason people use it for elevator music. It's easy to listen to in the background, but when you actively try to listen, it has no entertainment value. There were only a couple songs here that I could even listen to past 30 seconds before getting immensely bored, and every song felt like an eternity
the foundation for an excellent electronic album is here, but then absolutely nothing is done with it. it is truly designed to be ambient music, so there is nothing notable about it. this album is designed to be nothing, so my rating will give it the same
incredible instrumentals, especially the solos blew me away. some of the songs were a little too slow/bluesy for my taste but overall very solid
a few excellent songs in here, Wild World especially stands out. but for every fun or emotional song there's another equally dull one that is forgettable
some songs and pretty much all of the singing sound like very generic alternative rock. overall the album seems to have no desire to create anything either fun or just interesting to listen to. if Mysterious Ways wasn't decent this would probably deserve a 1/5
guitar and overall band sound are excellent, although some rhythms can get repetitive. singing is mostly repetitive moaning which detracts from a lot of songs. overall hit or miss, but can see the appeal and reason why it's called stoner rock. personally also not a fan of a lot of songs without singing
beautiful album, while it's not going to blow you away, it's filled with charm and longing. the singing talent is average but it works extremely well for this genre. some songs are a little too slow but overall very enjoyable
interesting psychedelic sounds but really hard to pay attention to. the singing especially gets repetitive and tiring quickly. album seems designed to be listened to while on drugs, which is not as fun for anyone paying attention to the actual music
liked a lot more on the second listen, really solid sounds throughout although personally one didn't stand out as truly unforgettable. excellent lyrics
really solid sounds throughout, Take Me Out is especially iconic. missing another truly memorable song or two to take this to the next level but this is a must listen for any fans of indie rock
not horrible, but very repetitive. not a lot that sticks out as really good or memorable. lyrics can be interesting but still repetitive. had no desire to listen to the re-issue bonus tracks
pretty consistent but blends together after a couple songs. not bad at all but not particularly memorable
looking at the reviews it's clear that all the people who gave it negative reviews are either music snobs or just don't like having fun. this album isn't perfect, but there's a reason why everyone knows its mega hits. it's simple and cliche but this is a catchy rock album for the ages. also the alternative cover art is better
all the songs sound the same and they aren't particularly fun or interesting. almost indistinguishable from Morrissey's solo works
calling this singing is generous, it's rhythmic talking at best, which is a shame cause the synth sounds have a lot of potential. not sure if the album could be saved with a better singer cause the lyrics are pretty mediocre too
feels very committed to a bit that is hit or miss. the intensity is solid but often dips into making noise rather than music. songs are short and decidedly not sweet, but occasionally the songs do hit the right notes
just because an album is weird, doesn't mean it should be on this list. all the elements are decent enough but they do not work together at all. the singer is especially terrible, no singing, just talking and raising or lowering his volume occasionally
perfectly fine, extremely forgettable. mediocre and inoffensive to the point of being completely unremarkable
dark and moody, the bass especially stands out. overall sounds good, but not a lot really stands out. the singing gets pretty repetitive since it's lacking musicality
not a perfect album, but it's incredibly close. extremely powerful and iconic voice that carries the songs, some songs slowed down a little too much for my liking but this album is a testament to why everyone knows her name
expected a little more, the guitar skill is there but the songs are rather dull. overall pretty forgettable
very grungy, a bit heavy on the distortion so it never sounds clean, consistently solid on the drums and guitar. would bump this up to a 4 if most of the songs weren't covers that others have done better
personally don't like jazz, but some songs in here were close to changing my mind. incredible singing in every song. however it is unfair to compare this to many other albums in this list since it's a compilation album and it's over 3 hours long. the quality should earn this a 4, but this is way too long
solid but inconsistent, missing a song that really sticks with you. still very smooth and enjoyable if you let it take you along for the ride
the music is good, some of the solos are a bit too long, but I would always rather listen to the studio version of any song than a live recording. watching the band live in concert would be an incredible experience, but I would rather listen to new music than live versions of songs that are already in other albums on this list
sounds fine but nothing really stands out. easy to listen to but overall average
neither fun nor interesting, I'm always astounded how many people think he is a great singer when the falsetto parts are absolutely grating. lots of repetitive parts, but the piano here is excellent. this album is at least listenable, which is more than can be said for many of his other works
better than most reggae, but personally the genre never clicked with me. I can appreciate what it does and it's message but I have no desire to ever listen to any of these songs again
incredible album, personally don't think it's their best but it's undeniably epic. not every song is perfect but as a whole it tells a great story and the transitions are nearly seamless
the title track really stands out, the rest is good if a bit forgettable, the Who has better songs out there but this is a solid debut album
there's some great instrumentals here that create a nice ambiance, but the singing is minimalistic to the point that all the energy is removed. always feels like there's potential that doesn't go anywhere. almost gave it a 2 but the ambiance is good enough that people may like it in the background, plus Intro will be very familiar
overall incredible album, ends a bit on a weaker note but so many strong songs. some of the songs border on too long but the band's cohesiveness is undeniable. probably not the best LZ album, but a great example of why they're one of the greatest bands ever
very solid country rock, missing a real catchy song to really stand out but overall easy road trip listening music
standard house music, fine as background music but very boring to pay attention to. doesn't hit as hard as most good modern electronic music does now
perfectly fine, nothing really stands out but nice to listen to
extremely boring and repetitive, the essence of some good beats are in there but the same bits loop for most of each song. nothing fun or hard hitting
very talented singer, most beats are good. thematically gets repetitive and predictable, demonstrates a lot of stereotypes about the genre where too many songs are oversexualized
sounds fine but songs are way too long with extremely lengthy instrumental sections, nice background music but personally difficult to pay attention to or enjoy
epic and fun to listen to, the songs are pretty similar but all are great for any hard rock fans. Livin' After Midnight remains one of the most recognizable songs, United is a bit weak. lyrics aren't the strongest but just awesome guitar and drums throughout
talented with the rhythms, pretty much unlistenable if not interested in listening to the same music for 40 minutes
singing is nice, but personally not into jazz and dislike the background/crowd noises in live albums
consistent, not bad but not particularly interesting either. classic punk but missing actually catchy songs
the singing wasn't great but the guitar riffs were excellent. overall liked the songs but not as strong near the end. some of the lyrics were pretty sketchy as well
sounds nice but almost overwhelmingly basic, great singer and guitar playing but pretty much nothing else is happening. Fire and Rain is great but the rest is forgettable
great band sounds throughout, personally think Chicago's best songs aren't on this album but still a nice listen. loses some of its strength and cohesiveness in the middle, especially with Free Form Guitar
was pleasantly surprised by the richness and complexity of many songs, especially the inclusion of horn sections. the title track is the most iconic, and while the production of the rest of the songs is great, none are quite as memorable
blues and jazz are critical reasons parts of creating rock and roll, but they do not work for me. most of the songs are pretty boring, even though the talent is evident. normally would rate it a 3 because it ends on strong songs, but the background crowd noises are the worst part of live albums
overall great production, some of the instrumental songs slowed the album down. lyrics were strong throughout
really nice sounding, pretty forgettable. the 11 minute song was way too long
conceptually interesting but extremely strange. not suited for easy listening and not catchy. tough to listen to casually but at least weird enough to be notable
truly an excellent, underrated album. didn't fully love a couple of the slower songs, but the singing and the synth sounds always worked well together. high energy with deep lyrics, maybe a little too pop heavy for some but definitely a hidden gem
sounds aren't bad, but the singing and lyrics are off putting. the sexual themes get boring and repetitive quickly, and the songs are longer than necessary
some of Queen's best and most memorable songs are in here and the songwriting throughout is excellent. but a few songs are just completely overshadowed by Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend and simply feel out of place
some nice songs in there, but overall not enough energy for my taste. pleasantly surprised by a couple
pretty average punk, can see how it would be influential. thematically pretty boring pretty quickly
overall great rap album, not a huge fan of all the themes and lyrics but the beats are consistently solid. don't like the talking portions appended to the songs
nice but very boring and very forgettable
there's some good lyrics in here, but overall just really unexciting, the voice is interesting but not enough here to make it memorable or fun
noise rock is still just noise. there are some solid rock patterns in here but the nondescription makes it mostly pretty forgettable. the only thing that people will recall is that it is entirely insane
plenty of solid songs in here, but some of the slower and more bluesy songs just didn't click for me. the riffs and patterns are excellent
really nice overall, most of the album doesn't reach the heights of the "One Way or Another" and "Heart of Glass", vocals remain iconic
really nice background music. lot of talent and cool to see its influences on rock, but overall just really boring jazz
songs can be pretty long, but the buildups and payoffs are worth it. some of the instrumental sections were a little too long but overall worth a listen
personally don't like reggae and this did not help, just entirely dull and boring
pretty standard old school punk, nothing too flashy or crazy but a lot of solid riffs and fun lyrics. some songs may be a little too basic
pretty bland, a couple decent songs but overall the singing has little energy and becomes monotonous
really easy listening, some of the songs are a little too boring or slow. lyrics and songwriting are excellent, especially the last few songs
the sounds aren't bad and can work as background noise, but not much is memorable and the songs are way too long
lyrically and thematically dull and repetitive, can't see anyone actually enjoying this unless they are getting high. maybe then it would be a 3
ELO's sound is so unique that any song has the potential to be incredible. there are a few weaker songs here that make the album a bit too long, but some of the songs in here are absolutely unforgettable
easy listening old country, nothing crazy in here but there are some catchy tunes
very pleasantly surprised, lyrics and beats were solid throughout with great transitions. some songs didn't click but altogether smooth listening
easy to listen to, very sweet singing. some of the songs were too long but most worked well
certainly influential, but in the sense that it inspired a lot of alternative bands that make noise and can't sing. was optimistic there would be something more interesting here but the poor singing is distracting
unremarkable and forgettable
sounds and instrumentals were solid, Bowie himself sounded very out of place. vocal skills weren't great as per usual but definitely not his worst work
one of the most unique albums so far, very nice to listen to, lot of instrumental songs. absolutely worth a listen but not a lot that's particularly catchy
just listened to the album and I'm struggling to remember anything about it. it's inoffensive, but makes you wonder why this is in the list with 5 other Costello albums when there's much better music out there
mindless, lame, and repetitive noise. this book apparently struggles to find any good electronic/EDM albums when there's so much better stuff out there
great band with a bad singer. the title track is iconic, and had higher expectations for the rest, but the singing and lyrics are rough and the second half of the album really falls off. thought it would be getting a 3 until the second half devolved into mostly noise
the mega hits of this album are undeniable classics so tempted to give this a 5, but the remaining songs are pretty forgettable, and that's mostly because I'm waiting to hear the mega hits
really long album, but liked it more than expected. old school country, a bit plain but easy to listen to
took some time to get into it, but the lyrics are truly the highlight. some of the singing can be surprisingly grating but overall liked it more than expected
besides Hallelujah, hard to imagine anyone actively seeking out to listen or re-listen to any song on here
overall excellent, the first half is a bit stronger but just great hip hop
lures you into a great album with great lyrics. some songs are a bit too slow, but very easy to listen to
Nirvana is overrated and I don't like acoustics songs or live versions. studio version is at least better for every song, but this didn't work for me. guitarist is great at least
started off really strong with some iconic songs, but faded into pretty bland stuff in the second half
the band was really good but the singing was mediocre. the band was also a lot louder than the singer most of the time so the singing faded to the back
