Deep Purple
5/5
Can’t believe I thought smoke on mirror was just a one off
This whole album was insane, and I thought I usually dislike live recordings. The solos and vocals and drums are all amazing. I wish that the songs were a little shorter, but I guess it allows for more solos
Wasn’t really listening to the lyrics
2 likes
David Bowie
4/5
Very original feeling songs, really enjoyed them. I didn’t like David Bowie before but I do now.
I think it’s the fact that the songs are fairly unpredictable in tone and cadence, but at the right amount so it’s not crazy

Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Heard this described as swamp rock
Very consistently good songs, can’t believe they did fortunate sons and I didn’t know it
No idea what lyrics were about, but enjoyed the listen
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
I like the folky ABBA vibe
California Dreamin best
3/4****
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Accidentally looped the first song for 20 minutes and didn’t mind it haha, so you could say I didn’t mind the funky vibe
Solid 4****
Have no idea what the lyrics are about but they sound happy
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Generally really liked this album, but I really don’t like the whole “let me talk over music and build a story for ONE ENTIRE MINUTE”, before the rap starts
I’ll have to give this 4**** because it’s much more enjoyable and smart lyrically than other albums
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
Very drone-y, thought this was “Bullet for my Valentine”, so was disappointed lol
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Woman singing with guitar, bit too conceptual for me, I don't like her singing and random guitar in the background.
2/3***
Björk
3/5
Nice pop/electro-y. A female David Bowie, good background songs
Lenny Kravitz
2/5
Between 2/3*. As title of album suggests a lot of the songs are about love, with lots of Christian lyrics thrown in there. Guitar+man singing with some sax/drums in there too. The lyrics got very descriptive and out there sometimes.
I do think Christian rock is slept on a bit, I just wasn’t feeling these as much, but the quality of the production means it’s not lower than a 2
Genesis
3/5
A lot of these songs feel like it’s just a dude singing and messing about and then it gets serious. Very children story like songs
I noticed that the first songs gets resampled in the song “checkmate” by Apathy
Wouldn’t really listen to the entire album again, but worth a listen
The Style Council
3/5
Very varied songs, starts of as jazzy but then some rap songs in there which is interesting. At various points the album was 2**/3***, nothing was particularly something that blew me away
Tracy Chapman
3/5
woman on guitar with drums on almost all songs. Interesting lyrics about overcoming poverty and issues with police etc, but finding the love in the middle of it
criticises society/system without sounding overly pissed off at it
not the biggest vocal range, songs sounded quite same-y, but was a good listen.
quite slow pace for songs, you want to listen to the lyrics of the songs
Elbow
2/5
Really liked “the bones of you”
Other songs are quite solemn, but I get alt-j vibes from them, which is nice.
Can see listening to these in the car if I’m tired
Weird guitar solos
“The fix” is a weird song
Manu Chao
3/5
Could be a coincidence, but felt super happy as soon as these songs came on. Much vibes.
The songs blend into each other very well, so worth listening to it in order. So far I don't really have a favorite.
Soundgarden
3/5
Wasn’t really giving to this, some OK songs
Donovan
2/5
Wasn’t really giving to this, some OK songs
Public Enemy
2/5
Wasn’t really giving to this, some OK songs
Elvis Presley
4/5
Like the songs on this one. They’re mostly about love, could be better if there were some slightly more serious ones too
Also learned that a self titled album is “eponymous”
The Cure
2/5
Was alright
Minor Threat
3/5
So I really liked this album, but I found that all the songs blended into each other and there wasn’t really a song that stood out as amazing
All of the songs are very punk rock, but the even the drum sounds like it’s jus the same between songs
So I liked this album, but because of the lack of range I’ll give it ***
Pantera
5/5
Some good music. I enjoyed the album especially the guitar solos
Looked at some
Other albums and liked songs on Spotify. Very iconic guitar intros to Walk,
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Really liked this album
Cecilia and the Boxer and my favourites
Don’t really like the bridge over troubled water
Milk carton kids are good shout if you like this music if two dudes over guitar
Eagles
3/5
Hotel California song is obviously amazing, didn’t really like any of the other ones, but didn’t hate them either
They’re quite long rock songs
Cream
3/5
Psychedelic vibes but also some songs were whack
Similar to Beatles I guess but also completely different
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Good album, for once I feel like it’s actually accurate when the description says “explores themes of sexuality etc etc”, the lyrics were definitely thoughtful, but kept the songs viby
The Soft Boys
1/5
way too long of an album, I’m sad that you can’t seem to enjoy psychedelic albums without also being off your tits
Some of these songs are plain bad, if they reduced it to like 30 minutes I could see this being ok, but I wouldn’t ever recommend this album
The Jam
3/5
Didn’t like any songs particularly, but a good British band
I remembered seeing a “mods” gathering in Brighton once, remembered that
Blondie
4/5
Surprisingly modern sounds for an album released in 1978. On their artist page I found a song “call me” that I liked, as well as “picture this”
Very consistent quality, some nice guitar solos, overall I enjoyed this album, between 3/4 stars for me.
Good disco vibes
Orbital
4/5
Very good electric album, I hate when electric songs have shit chat over the top of them, but this felt more refined
No songs stood out to me, as is usually the case with electric, between 3/4*
Some long songs as well
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
Obviously unlike other albums because it’s in a language I have no idea about
I had a couple of intros to songs where I thought it was for a different song, so it’s clearly close enough to “western” music at times
Impressive vocals and I was low key vibing
Manic Street Preachers
2/5
Not my cup of tea, and the album only picks up near the end
Rocky songs, but some of the vocals just don’t add up
1/2
Otis Redding
4/5
Really liked this, all the remixes are different enough from the originals that they’re not just covers.
4:5
My favourite is “wonderful world”
Duran Duran
2/5
I liked hungry like a wolf as a song
The style of the vocals just really doesn’t appeal to me if I’m honest. It’s just singing the same note in a British accent and it’s quite annoying.
Madonna
1/5
Feels very manufactured. Definitely 2000s music, feels like music for background without a lot of meaning
Some catchy tunes but I dislike the use of auto tune
Bill Evans Trio
4/5
Nice jazz album, would listen again
Deep Purple
Prince
4/5
Very disco vibes, good car listening
I was vibing to this album so much that I missed my exit on the M25
3:4
Harry Nilsson
4/5
Liked this album a lot, first song was best
Very sing-alongy
Napalm Death
1/5
Just not very good metal, drums are decent but that’s it
Lots of short songs was interesting
Didn’t enjoy listening, the vocals were just too off for me
Slow rock songs, verysamey songd
Good band, and I’d listen to this again, but the album bored me
Brian Eno
2/5
Was an ok listen, didn’t really think much of it. Songs were definitely different from usual, but I really don’t like the “silly male British singer” vibe.
For example “driving me backwards”, it’s almost deliberately shit singing
Best was “here come the jets”
N.W.A.
4/5
Favourite song is “express yourself”, then fuck the police (which I like to listen to as I drive my electric car to my nice software engineering job, having no opps/issues with police)
Ice cube has the best lyrics. Fun to sometimes look up the individual rappers, like yella, and check out their best songs
Iconic album, and the movie is also worth watching
Paul Simon
4/5
Nice album, dude plus guitar, songs all have range, and sound different enough to make it interesting
Great car listening and I liked 2 songs on Spotify
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Terrible
1*
Vocals and music are all terrible, I don’t get why they do punk songs that are genuinely just whack
Sebadoh
3/5
Lots of distorted guitar
Ok car listening, couldn’t make any of the lyrics out
Pentangle
4/5
Folk/medieval vibe with a lot of melody
Light flight was instant favourite, I don’t like their disjoint songs as much
ZZ Top
2/5
Elvis Presley
3/5
I like elvis, and lots of these songs were new to me. But the sounded a bit samey apart from the famous ones “in the ghetto”/“suspicious minds”
So overall a nice listen, between 2/3 stars
The jazzy/harmony backup singers is my favourite vibe
Decided on 3*** because the last bit of the album is great
The Magnetic Fields
1/5
Listened to all 2h50 of this stuff. Very average and as Yam said, very self indulgent
The song lyrics aren’t always upbeat and the male singer doesn’t have range and is bad
This was just not a good one, even as far as indie songs go. My least favourite was “love is like jazz”
King Crimson
4/5
Cool and unique rock/jazz songs
Quite long but few songs which was great. Would listen again, genuinely enjoyed the variety
Nick Drake
4/5
Short and depressing album, but I liked the songs. Definitely changes the vibe, man on guitar for all of it I think
Didn’t really listen to the lyrics as much as I should have but good melodies in there even if it’s sad
3/4****
Blur
2/5
I’m not a fan of the British “talking singing”, feels like a boyband
Just not a fan, feels like it’s too basic, but could see it being fun radio songs etc
1/2***
The Offspring
3/5
Decent songs, felt like I could shout along to them if I knew the lyrics
Rock, their best songs are also lit, like the Lids aren’t alright
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Funky songs, not my type
Britney Spears
1/5
Apart from baby one more time, I didn’t get any of the songs. It’s too commercial and if it’s not a club song then it’s just a bit bad
1/2**
The Doors
3/5
Good car music
Nas
5/5
Was surprised by how consistently good this album was
I don’t really like NY state of mind, but it definitely has the most unique beat
I felt like the songs had amazing flow, and if they had better beats they might be more popular
Wasn’t a song that I didn’t like on this
ABBA
4/5
Everyone knows ABBA, they have their sound, I like the lyrics and the jazzyness of the songs
Between 4/5*****
Surprised by how many of their songs I liked that aren’t their most famous ones
Hole
3/5
Was like an emo rock album by a woman
It was ok, nothing stood out
The Monks
2/5
Jazzy blues songs
Reducing by a * because they didn’t have all their songs on Spotify, so I just went on their “best”
808 State
3/5
Techno album, enjoyed listening to it
Carole King
5/5
Really liked these, always her singing with piano/guitar bit of drums
Feels very folksy, but so catchy
Genuinely didn’t expect to like this this much
4/5*****
David Bowie
4/5
Very original feeling songs, really enjoyed them. I didn’t like David Bowie before but I do now.
I think it’s the fact that the songs are fairly unpredictable in tone and cadence, but at the right amount so it’s not crazy
The Pharcyde
3/5
Started off so strong then got shit
Jazzy rap, good flow
But later on it’s just boring and mid
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
Very forgettable, British alt rock band? I don’t like their singing style
Some one off good songs
Black Sabbath
3/5
Pretty good, would say this is more hard rock than metal
Paramoid is the best song, but liked Iron Man as well
Quite slow paced songs, I like the vocals, and the songs are all different
Between 3/4****
Ice Cube
3/5
Really good flow as always, for some reason I don’t like this album as much as his stuff in NWA, maybe it blends together too much
Between 3/4****
Fela Kuti
3/5
Live jazz album, mostly instruments
3/4****
I like longer songs for jazz so this was good
Eagles
4/5
Liked this more than hotel California, gave Beatles vibes for some reason, more folky for sure
3/4****
Mercury Rev
1/5
Not my cup of tea, don’t really know what I can describe them. They went really abstract on some of their songs which I really don’t like
3/5
Bit experimental
Green Day
4/5
Such vibes, some misses later on in the album and the songs start to blend together a bit, but at least it’s a nice style
I used to play Holiday every day of last day of school, better times
3/4****
The Police
2/5
every step you take is best song on here
What is all that shit about dinosaurs early on haha
2/3*** purely off enjoyment, they might have been amazing revolutionaries etc
Sisters Of Mercy
2/5
This corruption was a really good song, others are quite meh
One of the better British bands I’ve listened to
2/3***
Goldfrapp
3/5
Excellent background music
Could be out of a James Bond movie intro. Liked one of the songs. Solid 3***
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
Shitty Whitney Houston. Nothing Compares 2 U was a good song but nothing else to my liking. 80s/90s vibe. 2/3 star
Pink Floyd
4/5
Interesting and unique album
Can actually listen to the lyrics which is nice. Really cool to listen to as a whole, otherwise the individual songs kinda suck
4/5*****
R.E.M.
3/5
Jangle pop. Sounds like Nirvana if Nirvana did pop. Good car music. I liked one of their songs. 2/3 star
Nina Simone
5/5
Excellent shit. Very rare to have music where you can vibe along to the lyrics but also vibe along to the music very hard. Good blues-esque music. Her vocals are very good, obviously. You can also listen to individual instruments like the drum and the piano and they all add something individual to the music rather than just blurring into the background. It’s a bit cheeky. She can sing about racial and political issues but not sound ‘preachy’ which is quite cool. 4/5 star
Saint Etienne
2/5
Background music. Technoy but a bit more singing than regular techno. Nothing really stood out. Female vocals were okay. 2/3 stars
Arcade Fire
2/5
Didn’t like it, too so and forgettable. First song is good, surprised by how popular they were
2/3***
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Folky woman singing. Some are upbeat some are sad. She has a nice voice. Gives older music vibes. Spotify didn’t have this album so we listened to a selection of what was available. 2/3***
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Happy music , lots of funk
3/4****
David Bowie
2/5
I hated this album, much slower pace than I like, with the singing style being that whiny British voice
“Stay” had a sick guitar solo which was the only the thing I liked about this album
Why does the first track have a minute of train noises at the start??
2/3***
Linkin Park
5/5
Absolute gold
Still great after all these years, good combination of rock/rap
In the end
Papercut
Are my favourites, there’s only 1 that I don’t like, and only the start
Pulp
1/5
Not good
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Enjoyed this! Found out I don’t need to have MONO audio and that improved the experience
In all
Honesty I was doing ither things while the album was playing so I can’t comment too much, but would listen again
3/4****
Putting as 4 because it’s definitely better than other 3s I’ve done
The Clash
2/5
Apart from "London calling", just a big standard British rock album
2/3***
Blood, Sweat & Tears
4/5
Oldy man singing style, I like it. Some songs got samples from this album which makes it fun to listen to. Reminds me of Frank Sinatra
3/4****
Minutemen
3/5
Good short songs
Some weird ones but you can’t have all hits
3/4****
Nirvana
4/5
Smells like teen spirit obviously very good. Other songs also decent. I like singer's voice, it's not too whiny which is usually what happens in alt-rock albums.
Wish guitar solos were a bit better but that's about it.
3/4****
Green Day
4/5
Like the fast paced songs, good amount of songs that I liked. A bit same-y, but I think that's due to the singer's voice, rather than the songs. I prefer this album to their other one that I rated (even though I know more songs from that album American Idiot or whatever).
Solid 4****
Method Man
3/5
Basically Wu Tang style rap, it was alright but nothing that I was vibing to too hard
Solid 3***
The Who
3/5
Not a huge fan of live albums, the banter was quite jokes mid songs
Solid rock songs
3/4****
Dead Kennedys
2/5
Very fast paced punky rock songs, could be mistaken for sea shanties. They're all just a bit disorganized for me and the melodies don't make up for it in my opinion. Lyrics are also quite random. Could see them being fun to listen to in a pub, but honestly nowhere else
John Lennon
2/5
I don't like this album. "I dont wanna be a soldier mama" is a particular one that I dont like because the lyrics are just the same all the way through, and I prefer songs to have better lyrics than that tbh.
Imagine is fine, but that's about it.
2/3***
Prince
4/5
Really good songs, better than the other Prince album that was on 1001 albums because these weren’t as experimental and more standard, more sing-alongy
3/4****
Tina Turner
4/5
Good songs, didn’t like all the repeats near the end
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
But I didn’t like the songs because of the irregular beats and the faint singing style
2/3***
Scissor Sisters
4/5
Fun album
3:4****
Beck
2/5
Average, but didn’t like it
The cover picture is of a Hungarian puli dog which is cool
Oasis
3/5
Some good songs! First exception of British singing bad not being constantly droning so far
Would listen again
Ozomatli
2/5
Wasn’t available on Spotify but didn’t like their artist page a lot
Wish it was just foreign singing
Solomon Burke
4/5
Good soul music, more guitars, and I liked his voice also. Much less jazzy than other typical soul albums, but I didn’t mind that
Lyrics mostly about love etc, often focused more of the physical side
Solid 4****
The Byrds
3/5
Beatles vibes, decent songs but nothing memorable
Feel like I need to listen to it again and listen to lyrics etc
Remarkably consistent
Charles Mingus
2/5
Jazz album, but a bit more disorganised than other ones. It was allright but I don't really like jazz that much. 2**
Talking Heads
1/5
???
Don’t like this, too much change in music
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Really good vocals, her other songs are really good too
Never really listened to much of her songs before but I’d listen again
4****
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Liked the album, No woman no cry my favorite. Was a good addition to my day, because I didn't feel the best in the morning.
Joan Armatrading
2/5
Sometimes good sometimes bad
Meat Loaf
2/5
Country rock vibes, even though I thought this would be metal
Couple of good songs but bad otherwise
Van Morrison
3/5
Ryan Adams
3/5
Haha his name is one letter away from Bryan Adams
Feel good American songs
Solid 3***
Steely Dan
3/5
Better jazz album than other ones. Solid 3***.
OutKast
2/5
Apart from the singles everyone knows and loves the ones ones were too original for me
Kate Bush
2/5
Lightning Bolt
1/5
Terrible. Just noise that loops and it’s shit. Can’t believe I listened to 40 minutes of this. There was about 2 minutes of good guitar and then ruined
The Last Shadow Puppets
4/5
Arctic monkeys if they weren’t so weird
3/4****
David Crosby
2/5
Ok, but not rememberable, lots of slow songs. I enjoyed the “radio”song son Spotify more than this, so 2**
The Band
3/5
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Terrible, 1*.
I don't get why people like this random screaming of the same sentence, and absolutely weird monologues.
Don't want to ever listen to this again.
Taylor Swift
4/5
I like swifty songs. This album isn’t any different from other songs I like from her
Solid 4
Duke Ellington
2/5
Jazz album. I don’t really know enough to tell the amazing from non
It’s live but I’m not a fan of the speeches in the middle
In terms of music like I’d be happy to have this play at some cafe I was in, but I wouldn’t Shazam it. I guess that should make it 2/3***. I’ll give it 2 because I’m not scared of being told I’m uncultured by the pointy heads
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Good, they have heads will roll as one hit wonder though 2/3***
1/5
1*
Way too concept and shit
Lynyrd Skynyrd

4/5
Good songs! All of the like slow country rock
3/4****
Elton John
4/5
Good songs, mostly upbeat
3/4****
Big Brother & The Holding Company
4/5
Don’t even know what genre this was, light jazz/rock? Really liked it
Best song to me was “Summertime”, I really liked the guitar melody, reminded me of “selling England by the pound” song
Female vocals could have been a bit better
4****, none of the songs are bad
Finley Quaye
3/5
Soft reggae. Was surprised that description says this is Scottish
2/3***, it was good but none stood out. Giving 3 because I’d listen again
The Stooges
1/5
In my opinion this music was too simple, too repetitive and not enough soul in it
Just the most basic cookie cutter songs and chord progressions
1/2**, wouldn’t listen again and nothing stood out
ZZ Top
2/5
80s rock style, generic movie background music for when cars are going across the highway.
I liked “sharp dressed man”
Made it to “Legs”
Pixies
2/5
Off the bat I’m not a fan because it’s not got enough melody. I like “where is my mind”, but that’s not in this album. Can see what their vibe is
2**
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Music was alright, some weird song titles and lyrics
2/3***
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Yeah! Nice slow songs good lurics
Richard Thompson
2/5
Wasn’t vibing to this too hard. But not terrible
2**
Lou Reed
2/5
Slow talking music, but with a bit more melody. Feel like the guy is bored as he's singing.
I don't like this very much. 1/2**
Lyrics are kinda meaningful or something, but also just idk I don't like them.
Favorite song was "satellite of love"
Dolly Parton
4/5
Love me some Dolly Parton

Fine. Not huge fan of any song2/3***
Johnny Cash
5/5

4/5*****
GZA
4/5
Very lyrical and good flow. All songs were good/great
I don’t get the whole ninja samurai excerpts from almost all the songs
Van Halen
3/5
The guitar is good. There’s too much synth for my liking. Songs are very 80s vibe
I’ll give it solid 3***, it’s a solid listen and wouldn’t mind it on car journeys
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Hate the friggin intros and interlude “songs” one is just sex noises for a minute
The flow is obviously next level, prefer the later half of the album personally. Lyrics also amazing
4****
M.I.A.
2/5
Meh 2**
R.E.M.
2/5
Weird rock. It’s fine, bit folky
2/3***

2**
Sade
3/5
Smoooooth operatooooor
2/3***
Bob Dylan
3/5
Songs all sound same
I’m not a huge Dylan fan, it’s basically country with huge hype
2/3***
Ravi Shankar
4/5
First Indian album that I heard on 1001 albums. Definitely interesting and reminds us that western music isn’t the only thing out there. I love the drumming on the songs.
Also interesting that there’s explanations in the album. It’s more of a tutorial than anything
The Police
2/5
I don’t like how the main singer sings with a Jamaican accent
Vibey sons but just not a fan. Roxanne is a good song but it’s not in this album
2**
The Allman Brothers Band
2/5
The album might be live but the quality is really good and crowd don’t intervene too much.
Definitely American country rock vibe, much slower, blues type songs
2/3***
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
2/5
Not on Spotify so can’t really rate
2** based on some Spotify album that had this in its name
Prince
3/5
Very funk, it’s DIFFERENT that’s for sure
Not any bangers that I liked, but I’ll give a 3*** for artistic creativity
Nirvana
4/5
I like this. Chilled singing but not cringe emo stuff
Live aspect doesn’t take away from it too much
Very consistent style
3/4****
Earth, Wind & Fire
2/5
Jazzy, didn’t like it THAT much
2**
