Van HalenThis was a junior high staple. VH defined the sounds of the 80s for me

Title track was my favorite. Bliss and chaos.
Not a fan of this artist, so rating could only go up. Made it up to three
quite a few well known hits on this album, plus a few I hwasn't as familiar with. Great early use of synths.
Very familiar with this album but this was a fun opportunity to listen as an academic exercise. Classic songs that still hold up.
Reminds me a bit of Irish hillsides for some reason
Not my usual cupnof tea but understand it's importance in music history.
Album did not feel like a cohesive peace period but the songs were pretty good.
Interesting album. Felt like cruising around the back roads of some carribean islands in an old jalopy
Great album, my intro into RH's deeper catalog beyond Creep.
Amazing how many well know hots are on this one album.
Not very good mix quality, seemed like very muffled. Piano sounded dead and yet ear piercing. Also maybe I need a tour guide for this album to place it in historical context or something, just not getting the wow factor, sounds like a typical Saturday night blues bar band.
I'm more a "music vs lyrics" listener so this album didn't really hit me. I have to Gove LC a closer listen/lyrics analysis in the future because I think that os why he is so revered
Not my thing
Classic tunes, lots of hits onthis album. Certainly hear the Beatles flavors coming through.
Historic album. Not on YouTube music. Not much of a hip hop fan but this was fun to listen to
A little rough around the edges but I think that is on par with this genre at this time in history.
Interesting album. Felt like I was cruising around on a carribean island in an old jalopy
A few iconic hits, unmistakable voice.
Staple of my late teens
Very progressive for the time. Great handful of tunes.
Any album with Sir Duke deserves 5 stars. But there are so many great tunes on this album aside from that one. Bonus points for discovering the source material for Coolio's "Gabgster's Paradise"
Pretty decent album, only a few of the bigger hits but enjoyed a lot of the lesser known tunes on here
Never been big on early era Beatles but there was plenty to enjoy here
Never heard a whole lot o her beyond the hits. Really enjoyed a lot of the lesser known tunes on this album.
Obiously a significant influence on rock and roll. Enjoyed it for what it was, but generally look at this as my grandparents music
Not my cup of tea.
0lenty good music, I can only take David Byrnes vocal style in small doses though
This was a "new to me" discovery when I wandered through some old albums in my early 20s, definitely a favorite.
Wow not a band I considered in the Jam genre but man this album jams.
Beautiful chaos
Probably some historical context but not a very enjoyable listen at face value.
Very enjoyable tunes. This was one I had no knowledge of at all and didn't know what to expect.
Such hard hitting tunes. I'd heard a few of these as they made there way to radio, but the whole album was full of surprises and a great display of talent and raw energy.
Pretty standard rock n roll
This was a junior high staple. VH defined the sounds of the 80s for me
Very enjoyable listed. Chaotic at times but bursting with talent through and through
Listened to The Real Ramona a lot in high school but liked this album a whole lot more.
Fun chill listen.
Quite a lot of tunes for an "album a day" list! But this was a fun listen. Great orchestration, and now I think I could pick out Ella in a blind listen.
Lots of classic Christmas tunes I'd hear in the radio during the holidays. Didn't know these were all tied to Phil Spector. A bit of a Motown flavor.
Not my typical genre but a fun listen, well crafted tunes. Knew Latifah had this pedigree but never sat through a whole album of hers.
Classic 80s tunes. This duo crafted some catchy tunes.
Fun listen. Slowly getting exposed to some classic hip hop. Like the "spooky" vibe here
Can't believe I'd never heard of this guy before now. Had to look him up and see more of his works. Saw this came out early 90s. Sorry I missed it then, it would have been a staple of my more drug-addled days.
These guys go for the epitome 80s hair rocker sound, with the exception of that crazy high voice and the funniest use of f-bombs I've heard in this genre!
I enjoyed this. Maybe not a first-pick listen so another reason to appreciate this list and app. Very sparse on my Lou Reed listening history so appreciate getting exposed to more
Some well known songs from the 80s. In general I guess I find it kind of boring music-wise.
The obe the only snoop. I've been exposed to a handful of his peers on here and he is a standout
Great sound with varied instrumentation and lush soundscapes
This album had its more grating moments, but overall a wild ride, made more interesting by reading up on the history provided by another reviewer here.
Heard quite a few familiar tunes on this album. Never really gave this band a listen on their own. Pretty decent
Classic songs among the many spawned by Bob and crew.
I've given Television a shot before based on hype but was turned off by the vocals. This project prompts me to go for a full listen to each album presented, and as such I was won over by the time I got halfway through the title track. I guess I'm a television fan now.
All of these songs popped right back into my memory. These guys were right there in the mix of all the grunge we were listening to in the early '90s
This was an interesting listen with the interspersed spoken bits.
Great album. So many hits, and even the songs that didn't become hits are solid
Never been much for Dylan but this was enjoyable enough for 4 stars
Wasn't that crazy about this one. Music a little too aggressive for passive listening but too boring for active listening. 7-9 minute runtimes on songs that said all they're going to say in the first minute. Maybe this was popularized at dance clubs or something.
An album worth a listen. High energy and fun. Makes this project worthwhile to hit these discoveries
Yeah still not a dino jr fan.
This album hits harder as his last.
I guess I never really sat through a full listen of this album. Wasnt actually familiar with a few of these. I love listening to these full albums and wondering what that teen somewhere out there in the late 60s was thinking about this brand new music
Another choice really off the mainstream. Probably not something I'd seek out but not a bad listen.
Wow. This is what I'm here for. I've heard of Janelle Monae but just assumed her music was outside my genre interests. This album is fantastic. Will be checking out more of her work for sure.
Can't say I'm well-versed in all the Bowie eras, but having sampled a bit from all of them I'd say this era would not be one of my favorites. Lots of easy listening filler between the opening and closing tracks.
Yeah still can't stand his voice. I tried. Again.
Always great to have some jack and meg on the list
Wow CeeLo is a crazy good lyricist. Enjoyed this one a lot
Another one that I never listened to the whole thing, but knew a handful of tunes. There were a few that didn't sound like typical Bowie, and if you had played them for me without telling me who it was I would not be able to to identify. Quite a variety of songs
I find it hard to distinguish this music from a dozen other rock music staples on the radio today. Still I guess it was nme album of the year in the early 90s so maybe they started this sound, which is something I guess?
Groundbreaking album. Reznor continues to make a mark in so many musical realms
Thin Lizzy never really made my radar as far as bands to listen to, and I didn't hear much here to spark the kind of rabid fandom that I've seen around this band. It was fine for a '70s rocker.
I remember having a professor teaching the history of jazz and he mentioned this album specifically as a groundbreaker. I can't say I have a whole lot of experience in jazz music to be able to pinpoint any innovations here, but it certainly wasn't enjoyable listen
Lots of Coldplay tunes in my favorites list. A handful of those on this album, and the rest were fun to listen to as well. Well-produced album.
Had no clue what to expect here. Upon spinning up the first track, I pinned it as "old country" genre. But as the album progressed, I got hooked more and more. Kind of a cross between Johnny cash and Neil Young. Will be looking for more of his stuff!
Grew up on Ozzy/Sabbath. Easy to add this one to the rotation.
A few familiar tunes on here, the rest follows suit stylistically, with some jammy elements as well as a classical music flavor sprinkled in there. Overall a sparkly production, reminiscent of certain elements of Queen and Bowie.
Have heard this one before but haven't brought it out for a spin for a while. Great fun trip every time.
I think this is the album held up as RHCP Prime. Solid offering but not my favorite one of theirs.
Pretty good offering, even though I am not as good at focusing on lyrics I could pick up a thematic element to these songs.
There were some songs that just grated on my nerves but they were balanced by some pretty great stuff on the other side of the coin.
I know TS had begun her journey away from her country beginnings before this album, but this one felt like a much more dramatic shift into pop diva territor, and highlighted the powerhouse she was becoming
A little too on the twangy side for my tastes, but had some solid tunes
Man, I really don't know if I've sat down and listened to this album in its entirety before. What struck me most in that exercise was how completely disjointed it sounds. A collection of great tunes, but lacking cohesion imho
I don't know much about Nico, other than association with Velvet Underground. Wasn't all that knocked out by this album but apparently she didn't like the outcome all that much either.
I can't say I get the Any Winehouse hype. I did dig the lyrical content, quite a few alternate takes on relationship dynamics.
I haven't listened to much of any Nick Cave and I wasn't too crazy about this album in the first few tracks, but it grew in me as it went on.
In a clas of their own, even if that class sounds like the class clown sometimes
Never heard anything from her but Fast Car. Great collection of songs. I'm not one to pay as much attention to lyrics as I do to music, but she has a way of bringing life to the words that really make each song hit.
That clean Steely Dan sound. Lots of unfamiliar tunes for me but enjoyed getting to hear more of the catakog
Neat to hear a young bb king totally owning the place
Not totally my cup of tea, but I can see the attraction that people have for him
Another unheard of oddity. Fun album, slightly nerd-inspored hip hop
Funny some of these sound a bit like the 70s commercial jingles I remember and I have to wonder if this sound was the inspiration.
Amazing work, very catchy beats and yet very technically arranged (weird time signatures etc) aongs
Whatever Queen Album contained Bohemian Rhapsody was gonna get 5 stars, but there's some really really cool b-side stuff going on here as well
Another strange out of the blue genre. Sounds like the soundtrack to a stage musical. Very dramatic expressive vocal works
I can appreciate the legacy of this album so I'll bump it up to three stars even though it sounds like it was composed using the built in functions of a consumer grade Casio keyboard from the 80s
Hard to believe the output of this band over the decades. This album contains some of the best hits as well as some really cool covers (which admittedly I had to look up to see who did it first).
This is some really laid back Willie.
I've never been a big fan here. I even checked that I hadn't accidentally set it on repeat because the songs were all sounding the same. Apparently this band is on "50 greatest artists of all time" lists. I get that they maybe launched a genre so "most influential" might be more apt.
I know there's some bias here having grown up right smack in the middle of this genre (and this album in high rotation among the Nirvana, Soundgarden and STP of the day), but man, these compositions and production still hold up today.
Wow so I guess I like Bob Dylan now.
Recognizable hits mixed with obscurities. Not my favorite SW album
Enjoyed this
If I had just heard this whole album rather than the songs that got picked out as hits I'd probably have been a VU fan for a lot longer rather than just starting now.
This feels like Radiohead Light. It is distinctly them but there's no song I can really point to (or album vibe as a whole) that stands out. Unlike just about everything else they've released.
Completely outside of my music tastes. Not something I'd probably ever seek out or listen to again, but they said I must hear it before I die, and so I did
Still on the fence with Van Morrison. I like a few of his catchy hits just not all in on him like so many who adore everything he does. Im willing to bet I'll see more of him on this list and will be turned. This album just didn't quite get me there.
It is interesting to compare the two "eras" of Acdc. Even though the whole vibe is pretty much the same across the board, the vocals have that distinction between the two.
Another flavor of Hendrix that I wasn't as familiar with.
Man six or seven charting songs on this album. Quite an accomplishment. I have always dug Alanis, though listening to all these back to back made me realize how much of her lyrics she just crams in without regard to cadence
There's a few on here I've heard before and just attributed to Marley. I obviously don't know my Reggae.
