The Wall
Pink FloydThe wall is so funny conceptually. I like how it compares the anxieties of childhood in a boarding school of a fascist nation to the isolation of stardom. It’s my 3rd fav Pink Floyd album fs fs

3.5/5 This album is really good, an eclectic sound, playful nuttiness but really soulful rhytmns. I think at times it can be a bit too playful but overall a good listen. I like a lot of lounge and international jazz and this feels like the rock extension of that. At some points the instrumental solos roll one after another and I do think I’m listening more to a jazz album in that way
Very Latin, Very Californian. Was interesting to hear the original version of a lot of these songs and how Santana changes them even if marginally. Loved the big 3 or 4 and what a fantastic opener. I think the weaker spots are when the album goes a more generic hard rock route on tracks like Hope You’re feeling better but even then still commendable.
Runs the full gamut of music and pushed boundaries in a way I’m unsure will ever be possible again. Very choice bangers and an incredible acoustic sound. Always chuckle to the country rocky raccoon hehe
Often times I find it hard to see how the 60s became the 70s stylistically, but I think looking at other countries view of US music and how they meld it to their own musical context is a great way to see the transition in slow motion. Great Funk/Hard Rock opener that would feel at home between James Brown and George Thorogood in a pool hall. 2nd track is full funk. That transitions to mellower sounds in track 3. U can almost feel a growing regional sound as the tracks progress! Brazil!!!
Lmao I think what makes this album stand out is its a concept album whose concept does not stymie each tracks ability to shine on its own. The radio was playing these singles for like 2 years after its release, so much so that they were still on the airwaves when TPAB was released. Great album, just reminds me of late middle school/early highschool.
I think that this album was really good, my favorite era of country music, but I think it’s hampered by the constraints of its time, especially the over reliance on covers. What is missing in originality is made up for by her performance and unique voice. She clearly has the best version of the song shoes on the other foot, her opening track is written by her and her performance is reflective of this. Hope there is more Loretta Lynn on this list as Fist City and Coal Miners Daughter are both great albums. Really a 3.5/5 stars, but we’ll round up
this album is literally Crooner triple platinum. Imagine getting the GOAT to remake the last 20 years of music. That’s what this must’ve felt like to its contemporaries. Insane. Old Devil Moon is the big time tho. I’m going to give it 3.5 stars and round down, bc it’s a cultural landmark and the encapsulation of an era at the end of its cycle of innovation, but doesn’t do anything new or exploratory. It’s old hat, but it’s a certified cultural artifact
I actually liked the album but the album title was so misleading, Elisa said it might be bc they’re killing the harsher sounds of the genre to emphasize soft rock samples. Idk about all that. It might be the album on this list with the least amount of accolades and makes me wonder what albums this might have won out against? Esp with non-English music i dunno
Least favorite Marley album still has a handful of great songs, I shot the sheriff is still an all timer, love small axe. Love Ja man
Easily 5 stars, establishes the bossa nova sound and cemented some of that swinging 60s sound
Real nothing burger
Breakout album by one of the GOATs
Fantastic Album, actually really came around to it, reminds me of a lot of 70s morg music albums that tried to depict industrial and naturalist soundscapes, but you can hear the transition to a poppier sound. Huge knock for 20 minute track tho smh.
West Coast Classic
Wow. I think the track listing is incredibly interesting. Pop & grunge rehashed in a folk ballad style and country outlaw music about death and youth sang by a man who started the genre, a man so close to the end of not only his career, but his life. This is probably country black star. Each song so haunting and darkly alluring. The age of Johnny cash seemingly changes the meaning of the music, especially through use of seemingly raw vocals that are enhanced by their weathered nature. Nearly cried the entirety of tracks 1-6.
There’s the 3 KCal Roq classics of Legs,Sharp Dressed Man, and Gimme all your lovin’. The rest is really whatever tbh.
Really enjoyed the listen, it kind of connects the dots on the development of women’s rap and it’s role in greater hip hop culture at the turn of the century. While I did enjoy it, not what I was expecting from Missy Elliot

My first album. Much love
Really good album, starts strong with a solid 4 tracks, thins out, then ends on like a 4 tracks flourish. I love the languishing guitars and the drawn out vocals, funny that they became the band oasis was supposed to be
Solid numetal, edgy, abrasive, and at times very fun. Freak on a leash always a good time.
Really classic songs, love the album but slow start and I could swap music with some of his other contemporary albums and not lose much in terms of theme or classic status
Really wowed by this project, great moves on this you can feel the marital strife and tension fs fs
Loved surprise Bjork, great vocal performance but her ethereal stage presence seemed so surreal in some standard nu wave. The songs that strayed farthest sounded the best <3 bjork
Enjoyable but idk not notable enough for 3 stars
