1001 Albums Summary

I have heard this album before but forgot most of it. This album sends you to space, forces you to dance, then welcomes you back with a warm depressing hug.

Great harmonies. The guitar tone has a nice crunch to it. Wild drums. Songs are mostly forgettable. Title track slaps though.

The songs are nice but one was enough.

It's wild that the first three tracks were huge hits. My favourites were the last two songs.

A really pleasant album for a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of talent and variety in the songs that I barely noticed it is a double album.

How can a record be both noisy and catchy? Pure raw energy.

I don't love the vocals but I love the mood it sets and the accompanying instrumentation. I've never heard anything quite like this. I don't know if that is a good thing or not.. but I did put it on for another listen. Birdland sounds like a Grateful Dead jam set to some snazzy poetry. OK on that second listen I've come to appreciate the vocals.

This album gives me goosebumps. I've heard in many times and I will listen to it many more. I wouldn't change anything about it. I don't believe in perfection but this one is close to it.

The eclectic instrumentation is so cool. I love the prominence of the fretless bass and the guest appearance of a didgeridoo. This music is so bizarre whilst being cohesive. Bush's vocal range is incredible! She can pull of soft and sultry, powerful lingering vibrato and rageful screams.

I can clearly see how they have influenced many bands that I love but this album just isn't hitting great.

Beautiful song writing. Catchy melodies and memorable lyrics. A truly timeless record.

This is so boring. Why is it even on this list? Maybe it was influential to something grander? I don't know or care.

Its a fun and catchy rock album. Not my favourite Beatles record but certainly not a bad one.

Hard hitting energetic music that makes me want to thrash around.

A pretty run-of-the-mill classic/hard rock performance. Not a bad listen but nothing special. Best part was Huey Lewis playing harmonica!

Winehouse's vocals take you on a journey and the band makes for a perfect caravan to support her travels. My head was bobbing along from the intro to the outro.

Peak dad rock. Not quite rock n roll. Not quite jazz. Not quite interesting.

The title track is great. The rest of it is good music but definitely feels like it is a soundtrack and doesn't stand very strongly on its own without the film.

This one caught me off guard. I didn't expect it to go so hard! Great jazz lines blending in with nicely written rock leaning tunes. I even recognized a few tunes. So I guess I have heard this band before. If I'm in the mood for jazziness I'm probably going to put on other records but I will certainly be revisiting And When I Die and maybe a few others.

Classic Bob Dylan. Don't always know what he means but he sounds cool saying it.

Fun fast punk rock that doesn't overstay its welcome.

In a rave setting this would be a 5/5. As an album though it doesn't do it for me.

I don't know much about this style of music. This was a fun listen!

I don't dislike industrial music but a whole album of it is maybe too much for me. However when a song or part of a song hits right it goes HARD.

I liked some moments of this one which is more than I expected.

Ethereal walls of sound hit you like waves stitched together with beautiful melodies. It has lots a psychedelia yet is well grounded. I had never heard of this group before but I am a huge fan of this. It will be a repeat listen.

Now this is how you do a rock record!

I would listen to this for the bass alone.

Not bad overall but only a few moments stood out to me.

This album did for me what Doolittle couldn't. I love this one. I really love the little touches of surf mixed in.

A decent blues tinged rock album that's a lot better than most of the hard rock of the era.

My first thought was that there was a very cool contrast between the noisy loud guitars and clean vocals. Then the last song comes in with the vocalist screaming and it's just so powerful! Awesome album.

Blusier than the other ZZ Top album on this list and for that I like this one more. Still don't love it but its a fun bluesy hard rock album.

This is dreadful. Why is it on this list?

Gary Burton is an absolute virtuoso but I can't see myself going out of my way to listen to this again.

Everything Muddy does is 5/5

I would really like to rate this higher because some parts of this record are so damn good. Really not a fan of the vocals.

I enjoyed this more than I expected but its not something I will return to.

At the first 2-3 songs I was like "Oh wow this is neat! Something unique. Seems like the entire point of exploring 1001 albums." By the end I was so glad it was over.

Talking Heads are one of my favourite bands and this record kicks ass.

I felt like I was one of the boys.
