I don’t like rock music all that much so the sound just wasn’t for me. It’s more beat-heavy more than melody so I ended up just skipping through the songs in a few minutes. I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics so I have nothing to say about them.
Say what you want about The Beatles, but it’s undeniable that Abbey Road is an absolute industry-changing musical masterpiece. I had never listened to the whole album before and had I known the journey each song takes you on I would have. The different sounds and usage of all sorts of elements is an absolute treat to hear in this day and age where it seems like artists are trying to be as “safe” as possible with music. I love the ballsiness of the songs on this album. I love how there’s super playful goofy songs, and super heart tugging melancholic songs. The lyrics are so actually funny in certain songs which I really appreciate and find rare in music.
The first time I heard music by The Beatles and some songs from this album was from the movie Across The Universe (a drama/romance/musical) which is one of my all time favorite films. I was about 6 years old and somehow it felt like I understood what love was just from the sound of the music. For a 6 year old to feel that is a testament to how authentic and soulful their music is. I recommend this film to anyone who likes The Beatles’ music. The covers are extremely well done. Anyways I don’t have shortage of good things to say about this album but I’ll stop there. 5 stars.
I did not like this album. I’m not a fan of the 80s style rock music so it just wasn’t for me.
Overall not my thing but I liked the funkiness of the songs and the use of different instruments.
Initially I was going to give this album 4 stars because I didn't realize all of the songs are covers. I really liked the soft and gentle guitar and acoustic instrumentals in the background. The songs are amazing of course and I am so grateful that this album introduced me to some amazing songs that I could go find better covers of but I didn't like Willie Nelson's vocals. They lack an immense amount of souls that the melodies need to really seal the deal. Although I liked to imagine that some bald man in his 50s with a big round belly and a button-up shirt in like Indiana is sitting on his porch on a rocking chair and listening to this album thinking Willie's voice is perfect. I am none of those things so to me it wasn't hitting. I also liked the album cover. I would give the album two stars after all things considered but I am so so grateful it led me to Frank Sinatra's cover of Moonlight in Vermont so I will give it 3.
Big fan of David Bowie but somehow wasn’t too isn’t this album. It’s funky it’s energetic and it’s him but it’s not my thing. There were a few tracks I enjoyed on the album in the second half of it. I appreciate the production and lyricism but I just don’t like the sound. I really want to give a high rating because it’s David Bowie but if I listened to the same album from someone else I would give it 2 stars so I’ll stay true to my personal ratings.
Im starting to think these 1001 albums were selected by some middle aged white guy with a not so diverse taste and also maybe be likes the exact type of music I don’t like. This album is some utmost white ppl shit. And not in a good way. The sound, once again, wasn’t for me. I am determined to find a good album on this challenge!! Wtf are these old white men albums bruh where’s the soul and diversityyyy 😫
This was slightly better than the previous few albums and I liked a couple of songs on the album but the bar is so low at this point. I liked the sound a bit better but still wouldn’t listen to any of the songs on my own time.
Finally!! Something I enjoyed listening to!! I liked some of the album, it had a much better sound overall (compared to the last few) and I liked the song Space Child quite a lot. I like the different textures and some of the journeys the songs take you on.
I’m happy to finally hear a rap album! This album seems quite iconic with its sound, playfulness, funkiness, and lyricism. I don’t like the overall sound though as it is very beat/lyrics heavy and I enjoy melodic music. Big respect to the Beastie Boys of course but I just don’t like their sound. Especially listening to a whole album of them just kinda screaming the whole time, not my thing!
AOUUGH FINALLYYYYY SOME MELODIC RNB!! I love a good dramatic 90s RnB song and this album is full of them. Maxwell has a really nice voice and I like that the album follows the progression of a relationship with the intense lustful highs and the debilitating lonely heartbreak and then yay happy ending with the proposal jam! The basslines in some of the songs are sooo groovy and nice. I love the production. Although I have to be in a certain mood to listen to this much 90s rnb, and also I felt the songs were long asf. Also I only saved Sumthin Sumthin out of all the songs so I can’t give it a 4 (which I considered doing a few times). But if I heard songs from this album while I was out like in a restaurant or on the radio I would be pleased so a 3 fits just right.
Now THIS is what I’m talking about. This is a golden album. I loved every song. The soul, the instrumental arrangements, the voice made of honey and soul, the pure unfiltered yearning. It’s perfect. The Genius of Ray Charles was definitely an album fairly named. I’m a bit fan of 50s-60s slow jazz and this album is one of the better ones I’ve come across. Easy 5 stars.
Amazing album. I had only heard a couple of songs from this album before and I’m surprised that my favorite songs from it are the ones I just discovered as opposed to the ones I already knew. Hidden gems this whole time! They are musical geniuses these lads. Huge respect for the craft, creativity, and mastery.
Every song sounded literally the same idk.
This album isn’t really my thing but I liked the vibe anyway and I liked a couple of songs. My favorite was Sunny Afternoon.
If this album was a cup of tea, it would most definitely not belong to me.
What a pleasant surprise getting this album!! It is very dear to me as it reminds me of a mundane but nice memory of my childhood. When I was little I remember my dad would work out in the basement and he would blast The Prodigy music including this album and it was his favorite. I would hear the music upstairs and jump around to it in my room. So this album not only holds bangers but it holds a warm spot in my heart as I’ll always associate The Prodigy to my dad. Also I fucking love the album cover so much. Would give 5 stars but giving 4 because I have to be in a specific mood to enjoy this type of music.
Alriiiiight, Elvis! I haven’t ever listened to an Elvis album before and I was pleased with this one. I didn’t dislike any of the songs and I’d be delighted if I heard any of them in a public setting or on the radio. But as for listening to any of them on my own time, I don’t think I would, none of them really stood out to me. I like Elvis’ voice though he was definitely talented. 3 stars!
Side note: this is the 20th album I’m reviewing and still no female artist!
I liked the first half of this album, it was more melodic in a way. Second half not my vibe. Their overall sound feels nostalgic but also not my thing. 2 stars!
Every time I learn something about Prince I gain more respect for him. Although his style of music is not something I ever acquired the taste for or really understood, I am a fan of his craft and authentic expression. He no doubt deserves the long lasting notoriety. I appreciate the uniqueness of his sound, the authenticity oozing out of every song, and the fact that things would go wrong during recordings and he would keep those mistakes in anyways. It’s so human and timeless. With all that said, I’m still yet to find a Prince song I enjoy the sound of. I want to like his songs so bad but I don’t. If this wasn’t Prince we’re dealing with here and I didn’t care for the artist behind the music, I would give this one star just because none of the songs appealed to me. But I’ll give it a 3 because of all the other elements that I appreciate.
I didn’t dislike this album as much as some of the others and I liked that this album reminded me of Mother Mother. Maybe they took inspiration from this album? Anyways, 2 stars because I could see myself liking some of the songs if I was in the right mood.
The best way I can describe this album is “pleasant”. It’s quite safe when it comes to sound and it’s easy on the ears. I do like the texture. Although it didn’t exactly stand out for me, I did like the song Red Telephone. I was going to give it 2 stars but I have a flight today that is going to change my entire life forever and I have this impending sense of love leading up to this change. As if this will be a life chapter of love. I might be wrong but regardless, the title of the album and the artist name seems quite symbolic to me at the moment. Because of that I’m giving it 3 stars. Oh and also I like that the album is calming since I’m quite anxious about flying by myself for the first time.
Finally a female artist!! I’m glad it’s Madonna too I do like her music. Although I don’t like this album nor any songs on it. It’s too country-pop for me.
I can appreciate the iconicness of Miles Davis and how he changed the trajectory of music but I don’t like the sound of trumpets enough to enjoy this album.
Opa looks like I’ve found another cup of tea that isn’t mine!
Wow! I’ve never heard anything like this to be honest and I loved it. What a beautiful concept and amazingly executed. I think this album just acted as a gateway to my future deepdive on acapella albums.
I feel like if I was into this genre of music, Seventeen Seconds would be the perfect album. Unfortunately I’m not, but I wouldn’t mind if I heard these songs on the radio for example.
Although this album isn’t for me overall, I did like West Country Girl. The lyrics are layered in symbolism which I appreciated. I found the lyrics in his songs in general were pretty poetic. The music itself seems quite soulful but somehow isn’t hitting the spot for me. I found it a bit “whiny” at times and too slow. Like this is the type of music you listen to when you’re a middle aged white guy who just went through divorce and you’re sitting at a bar drinking whiskey or something idk. I’m too jolly and naïve for this album.
Oh yea these vibes are definitely different! I liked a lot of the songs and how they made me feel like I was a hacker in the 90s or something.
Yay another female artist!! But this is lowkey my least favorite type of music (sorry Lorde).
Overall not my thing but Punky’s Dilemma is the cutest song I’ve ever heard 😭😭😭😭
Oh this is what I’m TALKING ABOUTTT. Mhmmm this is good music. Groovy asf. Every song is good. A bit long but I can imagine people were grooving to this throughout the 80s in the clubs all coked up and full of stamina. So hell yea, it’s charming.
This album feels pretty damn legendary. I liked the slower songs and also the lyricism in general. The grooves slap. Mother Nature was my favorite track. I appreciate the culture behind it too.
