Already love this album, incredible first pull for me. I think Eat to the Beat is better, but this one has all their original hits
The OG indie sad boy. I used to love his stuff back in High School, but find it harder to relate now that I'm in my 30s. That said, still lots of great tracks on this and I kinda love how tinny his vocals sound. It's got a charm to it
The middle class white burnouts from my High School made me dislike Reggae back in the day cause they were so annoying about it. I'm still not super in to the genre, the repetitive rhythms and consistent slow tempo just doesn't do it for me right now, but Marley has a great voice and there are some amazing melodic moments throughout the album, and the last 3 tracks are undeniable all-time classics
Nobody beats the boss except the boss himself. Great album, but I like Nebraska more
The title track alone makes this a 10/10 for me and all the other songs are just an extra treat along the way
It's got a couple of my Beatles favorites but their later output is miles ahead of Rubber Soul. Everything they do hear they improve on in Revolver in particular.
Techno just ain't really my thing. It had its moments, but 15 minute songs shouldn't be this repetitive.
Pretty bog standard Brit Pop. Common People is a banger and Disco 2000 is pretty fun, but didn't do much for me otherwise.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Can't give it a 5 cause Tiny Girls is fuckin' indefensible.
Frank Sinatra existed to soundtrack movies set in New York. I'm not really interested in listening to jazz crooners outside of that context.
Loved this album as a kid when my family would play it during long car rides. It's still got some bangers on it, but really feels like a product of its time.
God I pray this isn't anybody's introduction to Bowie. The worst Bowie is still better than a lot of other music, but fuck, this doesn't even break in to his own top 10. Makes no sense this album is on the list.
My brothers and I would have "disco fights" in our garage when we were kids. We'd play a disco hits CD, turn on a strobe light and bubble machine and then just absolutely wail on each other. We Are Family was one of the songs featured on the compilation CD. That nostalgia made me really enjoy this record.
It has its highlights, but I'm just not super in the mood for a slow, vibey, reverb heavy album right now. Especially not one that's over an hour long. I'll relisten someday when I think it will click with me more.
Absolutely rules. Synth rock at its finest.
I don't know, it was alright. Didn't do much for me.
Back to back, non stop, no skip bangers.
This is the kind of album that I love this list for. Never would have known about this album otherwise. It's got such a huge variety of sounds, from folky to psychedelic. It was a very fun ride.
I like Rod Stewart's raspy voice and the jangly piano, but at the end of the day it's just a 70s rock album and there are artists from the era that I like a lot more
My brain can't fathom this one being a must listen. I appreciate the broad genre coverage, but it's just so God damn dull. I love Bonnie's voice, but the music does absolutely nothing for me.
Yeah it's fine. Knight of Cydonia was fun when I heard it for the first time on Guitar Hero 3.
They're basically covering the same ground as Radiohead from OK Computer to Amnesiac. It's fine, but I'd rather just be listening to Radiohead.
Don't really have much to say on this one. I think both Wilco and Billy Bragg have done much better work than this.
I don't know, it's fine. I have no drive to ever listen to it again.
Stupid cock rock or songs I've heard a million times at sporting events
Pretty fun, some great beats and production throughout, but doesn't reach the same heights as other East Coast Hip Hop albums of the era. I definitely did not need to hear this before I die
Only someone from New Jersey would believe this was going to heal us after 9/11
Banger. I'd only ever heard Tears for Fears on soundtracks or in commercials. All the songs between the hits absolutely rule too.
Some of the most self-indulgent bullshit I've ever listened to. There is some prog I absolutely love, but this ain't it.
I appreciate the groundwork it laid for shoegaze that I enjoy a lot more, but it's pretty harsh on the ears and none of the songs are remarkable enough to have me wanting to come back and listen more.
My only critique is that it's too short
I had a weird obsession in college when I discovered Wild World. I listened to it over and over again for months. Drove my roommate insane. And now here I am finally listening to the whole album and Wild World isn't even the best track on it. Pretty great album, I love a quick listen.
Not huge in to jazz, but I'm kinda digging this one.
Aging punk/ new wave rockers try to stay relevant by releasing their "sophisticated" orchestrated rock album. Instead, they make shit from a butt and some pretentious Brit who grew up in the golden age of bands like XTC tries to convince me their swan song albums from the late 90s are actually awesome and I can't die satisfied without hearing it. Trust me, bro, the oompah horns are actually so good, bro.
Such a product of the 80s. Sounds so dated and corny. I really like Peter Gabriel's voice, but the music and production just doesn't do anything for me. Sledgehammer is such an annoying song and I don't believe people would remember it the way that they do without the admittedly very awesome music video. Giving it 2 stars for This is the Picture (Excellent Birds) cause it was actually a pretty cool song.
Not my favorite from Bowie, but possibly his best. I don’t have much to say, the album just rules and I give it 10 or so listens a year.
The 90s were such a mistake, man
Brings me back to my middle schools days. The dirty version of In Da Club came on at my 8th grade class and the DJ got immediately escorted out by the principal.
There is some fun production, but as far as late 90s/ early 2000s rap goes, I’d rather listen to Jay-Z, Eminem, or DMX
The weakest of Talking Heads discography, but that’s hardly saying anything because the worst Talking Heads is still better than 90% of music. Psycho Killer is a stone cold banger and is the best indication of how awesome Talking Heads would become.
This albums quality and impact is undeniable. One of the few I’ve heard from this list so far that I genuinely think people should listen to before they die.
Super fun, quick listen. Probably wouldn’t have listened to this without the list telling me too, but that’s the beauty of this thing
Heavy psyche elevated to legendary status by Janis Joplin’s absolutely legendary voice
Janis Joplin’s voice is so unique and expressive, but without her this would be pretty boring California hippy rock and roll.
Anybody who is still willingly listening to this in the good lord’s year of 2026 should be lobotomized
Ska sucks, can’t believe it’s a genre people genuinely enjoy, but Our House is a banger so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.
Fast Car is an all time classic, but there is a lot to love here. Tracy Chapman’s voice is so lovely and while the music is very simple, the lyrics are very rich. Great listen and definitely one I’ll continue to come back to
I was kinda boring but I kinda liked it too?
I hate this cock rock bullshit so much like how was rock and roll like this so mainstream?
Basically every Britpop group sounds like they’re ripping off The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but these guys aren’t even trying to pretend like they’re doing something new. Add on top of that the very annoying vocals and corny 90s pop-timism lyrics and it’s easy to say I didn’t like this one. If you want to listen to Oasis, I’d say just listen to the hits, cause there is nothing remarkable here.
Best rock and roll featuring an organ
It’s ok. I really don’t like the whole Nashville Country Pop schtick, but I like her voice and there was some kinda fun production things that popped up here or there. Didn’t hate listening to it, but have no need to ever listen to it again.
I’ve loved the title track for a long time, but this album is a slog. It’s long and slow and I just don’t have much stamina for long slow jazz crooning.
I thought I’d have more nostalgia for this because my parents would play it all the time during long car rides, but this goes so against my tastes these days I just find it relentlessly boring
I love Wilco, but Christ this album is way too long
I knew of Muddy Waters for a long time but had never listened to him. I’m very glad this album came up for me. It fuckin’ rips.
90s equivalent of lofi beats to study to and painfully fucking boring lounge jazz. Another piece of evidence to add to my “most 90s music is boring and toothless” file
Yeah, nah. He’s talented and there is some really nice production, but this is music for suburban kids that want to seem scary. And why the fuck is this so long?
A mashup of basically every subgenre of rock and roll that was popular in the late 60s. Well performed but not much for me to write home about.
Cool that they’re from DC but this shit sucks
Oscillates between a song I really enjoy and infuriating pretentious dreck
