Popular Reviews

Groovin' by The Young Rascals

We already have every Beatles record on this list, do we really need every Beatles rip off act too? It’s fine, I guess. Inoffensive, but I didn’t need to hear this before I die.

Hotel California by Eagles

I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man Hotel California is a fun enough song, but I really do hate the Eagels

S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things

It’s fine. It’s psychedelic rock. Other people did it way better. And I don’t care for the concept of the concept album.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Mar 21 2026

Already love this album, incredible first pull for me. I think Eat to the Beat is better, but this one has all their original hits

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Mar 22 2026

The OG indie sad boy. I used to love his stuff back in High School, but find it harder to relate now that I'm in my 30s. That said, still lots of great tracks on this and I kinda love how tinny his vocals sound. It's got a charm to it

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 23 2026

The middle class white burnouts from my High School made me dislike Reggae back in the day cause they were so annoying about it. I'm still not super in to the genre, the repetitive rhythms and consistent slow tempo just doesn't do it for me right now, but Marley has a great voice and there are some amazing melodic moments throughout the album, and the last 3 tracks are undeniable all-time classics

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Mar 24 2026

Nobody beats the boss except the boss himself. Great album, but I like Nebraska more

Marquee Moon by Television
Mar 25 2026

The title track alone makes this a 10/10 for me and all the other songs are just an extra treat along the way

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Mar 26 2026

It's got a couple of my Beatles favorites but their later output is miles ahead of Rubber Soul. Everything they do hear they improve on in Revolver in particular.

Mar 27 2026

Techno just ain't really my thing. It had its moments, but 15 minute songs shouldn't be this repetitive.

Different Class by Pulp
Mar 28 2026

Pretty bog standard Brit Pop. Common People is a banger and Disco 2000 is pretty fun, but didn't do much for me otherwise.

The Idiot by Iggy Pop
Mar 30 2026

One of my favorite albums of all time. Can't give it a 5 cause Tiny Girls is fuckin' indefensible.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Mar 31 2026

Frank Sinatra existed to soundtrack movies set in New York. I'm not really interested in listening to jazz crooners outside of that context.

Synchronicity by The Police
Apr 01 2026

Loved this album as a kid when my family would play it during long car rides. It's still got some bangers on it, but really feels like a product of its time.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Apr 02 2026

God I pray this isn't anybody's introduction to Bowie. The worst Bowie is still better than a lot of other music, but fuck, this doesn't even break in to his own top 10. Makes no sense this album is on the list.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Apr 03 2026

My brothers and I would have "disco fights" in our garage when we were kids. We'd play a disco hits CD, turn on a strobe light and bubble machine and then just absolutely wail on each other. We Are Family was one of the songs featured on the compilation CD. That nostalgia made me really enjoy this record.

Disintegration by The Cure
Apr 04 2026

It has its highlights, but I'm just not super in the mood for a slow, vibey, reverb heavy album right now. Especially not one that's over an hour long. I'll relisten someday when I think it will click with me more.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Apr 07 2026

Back to back, non stop, no skip bangers.

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Apr 08 2026

This is the kind of album that I love this list for. Never would have known about this album otherwise. It's got such a huge variety of sounds, from folky to psychedelic. It was a very fun ride.

Apr 09 2026

I like Rod Stewart's raspy voice and the jangly piano, but at the end of the day it's just a 70s rock album and there are artists from the era that I like a lot more

Nick Of Time by Bonnie Raitt
Apr 10 2026

My brain can't fathom this one being a must listen. I appreciate the broad genre coverage, but it's just so God damn dull. I love Bonnie's voice, but the music does absolutely nothing for me.

Apr 11 2026

Yeah it's fine. Knight of Cydonia was fun when I heard it for the first time on Guitar Hero 3. They're basically covering the same ground as Radiohead from OK Computer to Amnesiac. It's fine, but I'd rather just be listening to Radiohead.

Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg
Apr 12 2026

Don't really have much to say on this one. I think both Wilco and Billy Bragg have done much better work than this.

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Apr 13 2026
Green by R.E.M.
Apr 14 2026

I don't know, it's fine. I have no drive to ever listen to it again.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Apr 15 2026

Stupid cock rock or songs I've heard a million times at sporting events

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Apr 16 2026

Pretty fun, some great beats and production throughout, but doesn't reach the same heights as other East Coast Hip Hop albums of the era. I definitely did not need to hear this before I die

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Apr 17 2026

Only someone from New Jersey would believe this was going to heal us after 9/11

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Apr 18 2026

Banger. I'd only ever heard Tears for Fears on soundtracks or in commercials. All the songs between the hits absolutely rule too.

Third by Soft Machine
Apr 19 2026

Some of the most self-indulgent bullshit I've ever listened to. There is some prog I absolutely love, but this ain't it.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Apr 20 2026

I appreciate the groundwork it laid for shoegaze that I enjoy a lot more, but it's pretty harsh on the ears and none of the songs are remarkable enough to have me wanting to come back and listen more.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Apr 21 2026

My only critique is that it's too short

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Apr 22 2026

I had a weird obsession in college when I discovered Wild World. I listened to it over and over again for months. Drove my roommate insane. And now here I am finally listening to the whole album and Wild World isn't even the best track on it. Pretty great album, I love a quick listen.

Apr 24 2026

Aging punk/ new wave rockers try to stay relevant by releasing their "sophisticated" orchestrated rock album. Instead, they make shit from a butt and some pretentious Brit who grew up in the golden age of bands like XTC tries to convince me their swan song albums from the late 90s are actually awesome and I can't die satisfied without hearing it. Trust me, bro, the oompah horns are actually so good, bro.

So by Peter Gabriel
Apr 25 2026

Such a product of the 80s. Sounds so dated and corny. I really like Peter Gabriel's voice, but the music and production just doesn't do anything for me. Sledgehammer is such an annoying song and I don't believe people would remember it the way that they do without the admittedly very awesome music video. Giving it 2 stars for This is the Picture (Excellent Birds) cause it was actually a pretty cool song.

Low by David Bowie
Apr 27 2026

Not my favorite from Bowie, but possibly his best. I don’t have much to say, the album just rules and I give it 10 or so listens a year.

En-Tact by The Shamen
Apr 29 2026

The 90s were such a mistake, man

Apr 30 2026

Brings me back to my middle schools days. The dirty version of In Da Club came on at my 8th grade class and the DJ got immediately escorted out by the principal. There is some fun production, but as far as late 90s/ early 2000s rap goes, I’d rather listen to Jay-Z, Eminem, or DMX

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
May 01 2026

The weakest of Talking Heads discography, but that’s hardly saying anything because the worst Talking Heads is still better than 90% of music. Psycho Killer is a stone cold banger and is the best indication of how awesome Talking Heads would become.

Abbey Road by Beatles
May 02 2026

This albums quality and impact is undeniable. One of the few I’ve heard from this list so far that I genuinely think people should listen to before they die.

Kenya by Machito
May 03 2026

Super fun, quick listen. Probably wouldn’t have listened to this without the list telling me too, but that’s the beauty of this thing

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
May 04 2026

Heavy psyche elevated to legendary status by Janis Joplin’s absolutely legendary voice

Pearl by Janis Joplin
May 05 2026

Janis Joplin’s voice is so unique and expressive, but without her this would be pretty boring California hippy rock and roll.

Cafe Bleu by The Style Council
May 06 2026

Anybody who is still willingly listening to this in the good lord’s year of 2026 should be lobotomized

The Rise & Fall by Madness
May 07 2026

Ska sucks, can’t believe it’s a genre people genuinely enjoy, but Our House is a banger so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
May 09 2026

Fast Car is an all time classic, but there is a lot to love here. Tracy Chapman’s voice is so lovely and while the music is very simple, the lyrics are very rich. Great listen and definitely one I’ll continue to come back to

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
May 10 2026

I was kinda boring but I kinda liked it too?

Pump by Aerosmith
May 11 2026

I hate this cock rock bullshit so much like how was rock and roll like this so mainstream?

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
May 12 2026

Basically every Britpop group sounds like they’re ripping off The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but these guys aren’t even trying to pretend like they’re doing something new. Add on top of that the very annoying vocals and corny 90s pop-timism lyrics and it’s easy to say I didn’t like this one. If you want to listen to Oasis, I’d say just listen to the hits, cause there is nothing remarkable here.

The Doors by The Doors
May 13 2026

Best rock and roll featuring an organ

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
May 14 2026

It’s ok. I really don’t like the whole Nashville Country Pop schtick, but I like her voice and there was some kinda fun production things that popped up here or there. Didn’t hate listening to it, but have no need to ever listen to it again.

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
May 15 2026

I’ve loved the title track for a long time, but this album is a slog. It’s long and slow and I just don’t have much stamina for long slow jazz crooning.

War by U2
May 16 2026

I thought I’d have more nostalgia for this because my parents would play it all the time during long car rides, but this goes so against my tastes these days I just find it relentlessly boring

Being There by Wilco
May 17 2026

I love Wilco, but Christ this album is way too long

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
May 18 2026

I knew of Muddy Waters for a long time but had never listened to him. I’m very glad this album came up for me. It fuckin’ rips.

Moon Safari by Air
May 19 2026

90s equivalent of lofi beats to study to and painfully fucking boring lounge jazz. Another piece of evidence to add to my “most 90s music is boring and toothless” file

May 20 2026

Yeah, nah. He’s talented and there is some really nice production, but this is music for suburban kids that want to seem scary. And why the fuck is this so long?

May 21 2026

A mashup of basically every subgenre of rock and roll that was popular in the late 60s. Well performed but not much for me to write home about.

May 23 2026

Oscillates between a song I really enjoy and infuriating pretentious dreck

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
May 25 2026

We already have every Beatles record on this list, do we really need every Beatles rip off act too? It’s fine, I guess. Inoffensive, but I didn’t need to hear this before I die.

Kid A by Radiohead
May 26 2026

One of my favorite albums of all time. The 5 is a no brainer.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
May 27 2026

I respect bluegrass and country but I’m not giving 2 hours of my life to listen to this whole thing. Albums shouldn’t be this long. Broke it up in to 3 listening segments and this is actually pretty spectacular. So much history and American culture packed in here. Just don’t force yourself to sit through the whole thing in one go.

Nu Metal was our warning that the 21st century was going to be awful. I can’t decide if I hate this more than Lincoln Park, but I definitely like it more than Korn.

Countdown To Ecstasy by Steely Dan
May 29 2026

A whole lotta fun. Shows off their technical chops but the real soul comes through in their later albums. This is still a really solid album though. Good, fun, quick listen

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
May 30 2026

Cool as a cultural/ historical relic, but not much to write home about musically

Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
May 31 2026

I bet Wes Anderson loves this shit It’s fine. She’s got a nice voice and some of the songs have cool arrangements, but Parade was weird and the song with the kid was annoying. I don’t have much more to say about this.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Jun 01 2026

As far as 60s instrumental rock sub genres go, I’d rather be listening to some surf rock, but this was fine and the title track is a classic

Illmatic by Nas
Jun 02 2026

This blew my mind for the first time when I heard it in High School. It’s an easy 5/5 no skip masterpiece. I’m never upset to throw this on.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Jun 04 2026

A brain ruined by acid and other psychedelics, post ego death and post shame. I want to call it self-indulgent, but the music doesn’t sound like Barrett was able to indulge in much at all anymore. Listening to this just bummed out in a way that feels masochistic rather than cathartic

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Jun 06 2026

Meh, I know this is an important album for hip hop history, but really doesn’t do much for me. Beats are sick, lyrics are repetitive and boring.

Make Yourself by Incubus
Jun 07 2026

I remember my dad bought a DVD for a live performance of this album. We never put it in the DVD player. I don’t think he even unwrapped the plastic. The album is fine. Pretty unremarkable and very much a product of its time. Whatever.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Jun 08 2026

“Can I get some White Stripes, Mom?” “We have White Stripes at home.” The White Stripes at home: Can’t believe these jokers have the nerve to compare themselves to Black Flag and The Stooges in their Spotify bio

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jun 09 2026

A high school classic. Never mad to give this one a relisten

Jun 10 2026

Yeah it’s kinda pretty ambient music, maybe could soundtrack the right movie, but it’s background noise through and through. This does not need to be heard before you die.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jun 13 2026

This was a high school classic for me. I feel like I’ve grown out of it, but it’s still got some really incredible tracks there.

Queen II by Queen
Jun 14 2026

I think Queen is fun, but they’re so kitschy and haven’t aged well. Their music is still played to ironically soundtrack slapstick comedies and Guardians of the Galaxy. Kinda fun that this album is more proggy and doesn’t have their stadium rock style hits, but it’s not for me

L'Eau Rouge by The Young Gods
Jun 15 2026

I don’t understand how people can become Francophiles if this is the kinda shit music they make.

Purple Rain by Prince
Jun 16 2026

5/5 classic, nobody does it like Prince

Hotel California by Eagles
Jun 18 2026

I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man Hotel California is a fun enough song, but I really do hate the Eagels

One World by John Martyn
Jun 19 2026

At least this British guy isn’t trying to ride The Beatles coattails. Instead he’s ripping off infinitely better African-American funk acts and sucking ass at it. This sounds like it would soundtrack a porno

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Jun 20 2026

It’s a little silly a juvenile and they get so much better with every subsequent release, but I love this album. It’s a ton of fun.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Jun 21 2026

It was kinda fun in a corny, pre-gangster rap hip hop kinda way, but I’m never gonna listen to this again

Jun 22 2026

This guy played the best trick on a record label ever. Well done getting them to publish the musical equivalent of a flaming bag of dog shit.

Protection by Massive Attack
Jun 24 2026

Some cool production, but I don’t think there is a single song over 80 BPM in this thing and maybe I’m just a brainlet that needs constant stimulation, but these songs aren’t doing anything interesting enough to offset how slow and boring they are. Some ok vocal performances as well, but again I’m not much for slow vibey vocals. This does nothing for me.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jun 25 2026

Very fun from front to back. The bass player was ripping through this whole thing

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
Jun 26 2026

Some really cool music here, but R&B just doesn’t click with me for some reason

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Jun 27 2026

Some of the finest rock and roll ever crafted

S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things
Jun 29 2026

It’s fine. It’s psychedelic rock. Other people did it way better. And I don’t care for the concept of the concept album.

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Jun 30 2026

Pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this one. It was real good fun

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Jul 01 2026

Standard hard blues rock. Take a blues riff, play it faster and louder. It’s not bad but not anything I’d write home about. I wouldn’t choose to listen to this again over Led Zeppelin or The Doors or something

Jul 02 2026

Jello Biafra is vindicated more and more every year. The Bay Area hippies gladly sold out San Francisco to the tech oligarchs that have taken over and made the city a dumping ground for the most annoying, overly affluent upper middle class freaks in the entire country. I wish he had won that mayoral race back in 1979

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 04 2026

Absolutely amazing, if not a little overrated. Great if your favorite parts of Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, but I think it is sorely lacking more Christine McVie

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Jul 05 2026

Baby’s first punk album. Their contemporaries were doing all this without being fucking embarrassing. At least they aren’t GG Allin I guess

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 06 2026

So much fun, impressive in its simplicity while still driving the genre forward and breaking new ground. I love Ozzy’s voice.

Doolittle by Pixies
Jul 07 2026

One of my all time favorite albums

Mott by Mott The Hoople
Jul 08 2026

Maybe slightly above average glam rock. Didn’t hate listening to it but don’t see much of a reason to come back to it.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jul 09 2026

A fine debut. Late 90s/ early 2000s rock just kinda sucks, but I guess this is better than most of it

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jul 10 2026

Beautiful and bleak. One of those albums you should definitely listen to once and potentially only once. A grief stricken soul lain bare. It’s a challenging listen but very worth sticking it out for.

xx by The xx
Jul 11 2026

Can’t for the life of me understand why these jokers have more than one album on this list. There are some fun groves, but the vocals sound like they’re asleep at the mic. Like they didn’t even want to be singing their own lyrics, which I get because their lyrics are fucking dull. This shit sucks.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Jul 12 2026

Pretty fun live album. Much longer than I am ever interested in listening to again, but a great album to rock through once.

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
Jul 13 2026

I haven’t gotten much international music from the list yet, so this was a pretty cool listen. Songs are very long and sort of meandering, but the playing is pretty incredible and I found myself getting lost in them, in a good way. Great music for background listening.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 14 2026

As a southern boy, this kind of rock and roll really speaks to me

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Jul 15 2026

I liked this album a lot when it came out my senior year of high school, but I feel like I’ve really grown out of Jack White’s schtick. His self seriousness and pretentious attitude makes it so hard for me to enjoy his music these days and I think with artists like Ty Segall around you can have way more fun listening to music that covers a similar ground. I don’t hate listening to this, but I’m not going to be rushing to come back to it any time soon.

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Jul 17 2026

Incredibly harsh, sort of punky, very early industrial. A lot of “found”noises. Most people will not like this but I’m finding it kind of charming. Not something I’ll come back to listen to often, but I always appreciate an experiment.

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Jul 18 2026

The kind of southern rock I should be in to but doesn’t click with me for some reason

Risque by CHIC
Jul 19 2026

Disco is fun

Out of Step by Minor Threat
Jul 20 2026

I prefer my hardcore punk more in the vain of Dead Kennedys or Black Flag, but I remember hearing these guys on various Tony Hawk games so I’ve got nostalgia for them

Diamond Life by Sade
Jul 21 2026

Pretty damn fantastic. Gold standard for R&B for me.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jul 22 2026

I liked this a lot more than I was expecting

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Jul 23 2026

I remember Pitchfork creaming themselves about this band every time they had a new album come out. I thank this band for making me finally realize the opinion of Pitchfork writers ain’t worth shit. Wholly unremarkable, the kind of indie rock I knew was trash when I was in high school.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Jul 24 2026

Soft, loungey jazz. Not really for me but I respect the talent. Anita Baker has a lovely voice.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jul 25 2026

Title track is a lovely song and she is a fantastic singer, but this genre of music just does absolutely nothing for me

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley
Jul 26 2026

Why were these fuckers in the 60s so obsessed with circus music? I swear they couldn’t fuckin’ resist an oompah beat, cheesy assholes

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces
Jul 27 2026

I thought I liked Psychedelic music but this list has helped me realize I’ve only ever listened to the really good psychedelic music that is worth remembering. This shit sucks and is insanely annoying. And insanely annoyingly British.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Jul 28 2026

Sexy, soulful, spirited. An amazing performance by one of the most distinct American voices there has ever been. It’s really a thing of beauty even though the title track is the only one I think everyone will recognize. It’s a grower, not immediately impactful but clearly an important work after letting it sit for a while.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 29 2026

I genuinely think Tusk is better than Rumours.

Kenza by Khaled
Jul 30 2026

Not really my style, but it is a fun listen and it’s nice to finally get another album that isn’t from the U.K. or U.S. take out that cover of Imagine and I might even be inclined to give it another star

British rock acts from the 60s/70s try not to rip off American blues artists challenge: impossible I guarantee Faces had never stepped foot in Memphis when they wrote that song and only knew the city exists because of an Elvis record. Fuckin’ cornballs.

Bossanova by Pixies
Aug 01 2026

Great record. I like Doolittle and Surfer Rosa a lot more, but this is very worthy to stand along those albums.

The Last Of The True Believers by Nanci Griffith
Aug 02 2026

It’s perfectly fine folk/ country. Doesn’t stand out to me in any special way like Joni Mitchell or other artists from the generation before does. A nice listen but not one I’ll need to come back to ever.

La Revancha Del Tango by Gotan Project
Aug 03 2026

Feels like the precursor to electro-swing and I mean that in the most derogatory way possible. Can’t believe this bullshit is an hour and a half long.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Aug 04 2026

It has its moments of interest instrumentation and music, but the lyrics are abysmal throughout and it’s way too long for its own good. I thought I liked the stones but I’m realizing I don’t think they get good until the 70s

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
Aug 05 2026

I wish country had stayed on this path. Outlaw country is delightful

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Aug 06 2026

An old favorite of mine from high school. Still holds up pretty well for me

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Aug 07 2026

Very fun if not a little too long. Love Stevie Wonder, but don’t think I need an hour and a half of nonstop Stevie Wonder

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Aug 08 2026

Kinda had Pixar movie soundtrack energy. Don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing, but it’s not exactly a good thing either

Aug 09 2026

I was excited for more music from Brazil then disappointed it was a jazz/ electronic album. Sort of sexy and ethereal, but I struggled to really actively listen to it. It’s background music to me, albeit kind of interesting background music.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Aug 10 2026

My family listened to this album and Rush of Blood to the Head incessantly back in the day. I have a lot of nostalgia for it and think it’s still really solid, but god damn what Coldplay is now makes it pretty hard to want to play this these days.

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Aug 11 2026

Not my favorite Bowie, I think his pop psychedelic schtick was refined and improved upon in just about every way with Ziggy Stardust, but this still has some really incredible tracks on it. Queen Bitch in particular really gets me rockin’

On paper this should be right up my alley, and I think taken individually I would maybe like these songs more, but as an album it is repetitive and got a bit boring. It’s not bad, but didn’t inspire much in me either.

Awesome production and she’s incredibly talented, but the album is a slog. It’s way too long and the songs sound the same. Respect the artistry on display, but it’s not for me.
