Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

1-Star Albums (11)

All Ratings (122)

Excellent. Highlights: My My, Hey Hey, Pocahontas and especially Powderfinger

Enjoyed Crosseyed and Painless and Fela's Riff on the Deluxe version. It’s got Once in a Lifetime on it, but apart from that it got a bit samey, and some weird bits didn't really work

Seemed a bit standard to me, but just my opinion.

Extended Papa Was a Rolling Stone. Liked this album a lot

Not really my thing, but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would

Ambitious album with some mis-steps. Generally liked it

I enjoyed this - time has been kinder to this phase of Paul Weller's career than I was when he broke up The Jam and started The Style Council. My Ever Changing Moods and You're the Best Thing, especially, are timeless. That rap though - not good...

Fine album

Really nice. Hadn't listened to it in a while. I'll come back

I can see the appeal and the musicianship, just not for me genre-wise

Enjoyed it up to a point, then the shock value wore off and I was just left with someone being offensive for the sake of it. Nice to hear some of the songs from my past again though

Still not really a fan

Still like it

Musically great, lyrically grating

Loved this. Good variety

Still great after 40 tears

Classic then. A classic now

Overrated?

Really not my thing - generated no response in me on any level

OK, nothing special

Liked it

It was OK, wouldn't have over it. Might listen to some of their other stuff

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would

It's a bit soporific, heard a lot worse. Gets quite samey

Still a classic

I didn't hate it, sure didn't love it either

No.

Quite nice

Not terrible. This music doesn't make my regular rotation though

I liked this much more than I thought I would. Really interesting, but the aptly named dirge let it down

Overhyped then and now. These guys lived off publicity stunts rather than letting the music do the talking

OK, hasn't dated that well.

Some poignant moments - I need to dig further

There was a lot of hype at the time and it's still enjoyable. Flash in the pan as I thought, it turns out they split and reformed. Decent enough, distinctive sound.

Enjoyed this. Will dip my toes further

Didn't get it

Not for me

Samey and dirgey

Well, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same things! I'm not sure this belongs on 1001 folk albums, never mind 1001 of all albums
