Absolutely blown away by this. Finally found out where the i sample is from. This was so good I put every single song in my playlist on my first listen. I am definitely excited for more Isley Boys
phenomenal
Ahh, very reminiscent of misspent college days
Very influential and so oddly nostalgic
I know the Isley Brothers from Shout, the all time greatest wedding song ever. An absolute banger classic. This looks to be from their later era so I’ll be interested to hear what it sounds like. First of all though, amazing album cover. Just a vibe. Oh this is funky. Know this first song. Fun funk rock soul vibes. Okay this is going to be a fun one I think. It gets more R&B soul after that funk banger opener. It’s all pretty good but liked the funk rock sound more than a lot of the more Soule sound. Love when it mixes the styles. The funk cover of Listen to the Music is great. Some really good songs overall. The funk covers are my favorite though. Going to go 3. Thought maybe at times it was a 4. But going to settle on a 3. Fun listen though.
Listened before : No Listen again : Yes Iconic songs that gave iconic samples. I don't think i'd skip a song on it. Highlights: That Lady, Summer Breeze.
Again, I respect it too much for a 1, but just skimmed all the songs.
Pretty good
Reminds me of being a kid in the 70s. As an adult it’s ok in the right mood.
The 1970s was a magical decade where you could put out a soul cover of a year-old Doobie Brothers song, and the cocaine was so good, that it worked. The rest of the album's great, too.
It was groovy, romantic and a lil funky
Psychedelic soul - progressive soul - funk - rock Incroyable qu'ils soient tous frères!! Le premier morceau est très prometteur C'est très cool
Funky and smooth. Perfect Sunday afternoon music. Some of the harmonies made me feel like I was floating.
Ronald Isley is such a hypnotic vocalist. Listen again and pay attention to how effortlessly and often he switches from full voice to head voice to falsetto and back again, sometimes all within the same phrase. Great performances from the band too...how bout those basslines and that elec guitar tone! (The non-hits kinda bleed together.)
Just an alright listen, can't say much about it. Usually I go for funky stuff like this, but this one just didn't stick as well.
I didn't care for the interview tracks but the music was great - included hits like that lady and summer breeze
Starts off at 5 stars w/ Lady and then continues with a bunch of mediocre songs.
Ok
Pretty good but I was ready to be through
Buttery smooth vocals, funky grooves, great playing.
Classic songs that are a lot of recognisable samples
This has some good songs on it but everything else felt a bit filler. Nothing bad just a bit bland. Not really my type of music but I think it was definitely solid.
Smooth soul, I was surprised there were multiple covers on the album. I underestimated some of the great musicianship on That Lady since I was only familiar with the cheesy lyrics. Great album.
very funky, upbeat, loving, fun, very *70s* great guitar riffs, great vocals, upbeat summer/ warm weather music 3/5
As I’ve said many times cannot help but remember this sort of music reminds me so much of the wasted time spent at The Mecca and other assorted nightclubs I frequented in the mid 70’s. Peer pressure and the outside chance of a dance floor snog sent me there but how I hated the mind dumbing music played there of which this is a good example. Best thing that could be said is that there is an excruciating version of the classic James Taylor Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight song on the album. Rotten version but at least it signposts those unaware to the original track. 2/5 16/10/26
Some great songs. And that guitar tone in the solos does something to my brain.
Just 3
Released in 1973, this album is classified as soul, funk and rock. The fuzzy guitar gives it a psychedelic feel. This group has a long history and some great songs. My guess is that the only reason this album is on the list is because of "That Lady". Four of the songs are covers of well known songs and I really didn't like any of them. And the others songs are just ok.
Found myself really enjoying this one- the songs have a lot if emotion and make you want to move/sing along. Plus the hits are definitely hits. Overall- in the 3.5 to 4 range
Holy shit this album was so funky I was bobbing my head throughout most of it. Yeah this album was pretty fricking good but also I found none of the tracks but two of them to be mind-blowing so 4 stars it is I guess. Favorite tracks: That Girl, Summer Breeze Least favorite track: You Walk Your Way
skipped the interviews, but other than that. solid album. very vibey i like it
This is a good sound in general, hard to go wrong, but I was surprised that so many of the songs were covers of 70s soft rock hits. Which is pleasant, of course, but those songs don't feel particularly emotional or well-written. I feel a bit indignant that this album is so highly rated on this site, but I don't think it's bad music. 3 stars here.
Funky!! Fun covers, easy to listen to. Good stuff.
3.6 super solid- funky as fuck and will probably through a lot of this in rotation. But the simplicity of the lyrics, and the fact that most songs could have like 100 measures of music removed and still be unchanged, are holding this album back for me personally.
The hits and the covers are absolute heat, with a couple of more forgettable songs completing the roster. Who *is* that lady?
Good but didn't capture me
Solid. This album influenced so many other artists.
Funky yacht rock. 3
Me ha gustado como suena, me ha parecido oír la base de muchos samples que ahora forman parte de otras canciones. Lo mismo es solo mi imaginación. En cualquier caso muy recomendable como cultura musical.
Groovy, really nice. Had a moment where I thought the Doobie Brothers and Seals & Crofts had ripped of Isley Brothers, but nope. The covers are nice but not great. Solid 3.
Pleasant.
One of the few times I heard a cover that sounded better than the original was with this. Great driving album.
The Mos Isley Brothers Accidentally listened to a longer version & didn’t mind. That’s a good sign to me!
I’ll give this one a 3!
Thought this was going to be boring but it was actually great
I have a friend who keeps recommending The Isley Brothers to me, and I never did get around to listening to them. Well, here we are. This one's for you, dumboo101. There was some pretty neat stuff here. Very groovy throughout. The covers of "Listen to the Music" and "Summer Breeze" were great. There was a bit of psych influence, especially on the opener "That Lady" which has some really nice guitar work. Really all I can say is that this is a good funk record. I do wish there was more of that rather than the slower soul stuff, though. A short review today, but that's alright. What more needs to be said anyways? ----- #0020 Heard on: 8 Oct. 2026 Rating: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ (184 / 340) Favorite track: That Lady, Pts. 1-2 Least favorite track: You Walk Your Way
3 + 3 starts off promising, with the Isley Brothers’ smooth vocals and soulful grooves making a strong first impression. Unfortunately, the album becomes repetitive and loses momentum as it goes on. There are some standout moments, but overall, it felt more tedious than memorable. The musicianship is solid throughout, and the blend of funk, soul, and R&B is undeniably well executed. Still, the songs don’t always have enough variety to keep things interesting. I can appreciate its influence and importance, but it ultimately wasn’t an album I found myself wanting to revisit.

My favourite song was Don't let me be lonely!
These guys had a great smooth sound. I don't think this is their most memorable album, though. "That Lady" still slaps after more than 50 years, but they don't always bring much to the songs they've chosen to cover here, which were all performed much more memorably by other artists.
Funky R&B classic. 70s flared pants and big fluffy hair. Black sound, happy evening.
kinda underwhelmed by this tbh. "That Lady", "Listen to the Music" and "Sunshine" / "Summer Breeze" are great, but the rest didn't really stand out to me.
It’s impossible to listen to some of these songs without feeling joy, and the quality doesn’t dip too far from those heights.
Great album with some excellent tracks. Summer Breeze must be high on the list of best cover songs ever, but the whole thing has a very consistent feel. Laid back and soulful. 4
Who's that laaaaady? Never knew this was them, but I like the first song so starting out strong. Good vibes, I listened all the way through without pausing or noticing it was almost over. Idk if that's good or bad, but I did like it. 8/10
There’s some belters on here as well as a few I wasn’t massively fussed on. It’s an album I could see growing on me with a few listens. It starts really strong with That Lady and that was potentially part of the problem I had, it was deep into the album before another track came even close to matching it. Sunshine(Go Away Today) was were it picked up again for me but the standout track by a mile was Summer Breeze. Loved everything about it but especially the unexpected cracker of a guitar solo at the end.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Funny, breezy
3 + 3 = 3
Two great songs on this album. My only issue is that he removes most of the melody from the covers. The biggest draw for me is the guitar work. My favorite album by them is Harvest for the World.
minder leuk dan ik verwacht had
Great. It’s funky soul with fuzz pedals and some really amazing songs. Not just the ones you know but a whole collection of great tunes. It’s so worth your time.
Solid outing. Like this one a lot.
Awesome, so iconic
enjoyable
3 + 3 i ocjena je 3. OK album, ali ništa više od toga iskreno
Ah, yes. Cincinnati Ohio. The birthplace of both Bootsy Collins, known for such bands as Parliament and Funkadelic. But Cincinnati is also the birthplace of The Isley Brothers. What an absolute powerhouse duo of Soul, Funk and even Disco music. I’m sure Cincinnati has produced many more prominent artists of the genre, but clearly it’s proven to be the Mecca of this specific sound. And speaking of the sound, just wow. This is really good. Like, REALLY good actually. 5 star good in fact. I was familiar with “That Lady”, mostly from movies, TV shows and commercials, but in all of those, it generally only plays the vocals, usually to draw attention to a promiscuous woman on screen. And while that’s usually a funny gag, the lyrics to the song alone don’t do it justice. “That Lady” also features a shredding electric guitar that I NEVER get to hear, until now that is. I just can’t believe this masterpiece of a song was hiding in plain sight like this. I mean damn, every song on the album is like that. Soft, relaxing, sexy voice that could put you at ease, and then that aforementioned shredding electric guitar that just sends a shiver up your spine. I’ve already given a 4 star review for Parliament, and a 5 star review to Funkadelic, as well as Stevie Wonder, even if the ladder isn’t from Cincinnati. So yeah, this is my jam. It’s right up my alley and I’m going to give it a 5. Added songs to my Spotify are “That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2”, “Sunshine (Go Away Today)”, and “Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2”, with the intro, “That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2”, of course being my favorite. My God, I could listen to this album all day. I love that most people listening to this give it 4 stars, but I’m a little surprised that more people don’t give it a 5. It’s really something special, and for the only Isley Brothers album on the list, they did pick a really good one. Great album today and my first 5 in quite a while. Probably my longest stretch so far without giving a 5, but this album deserves it. Phenomenal stuff with this one, more of this please. If you keep giving me heat like this, I’m going to keep giving it 5 stars every day of the week.
Pretty good stuff
Pretty good.
Smoooth! Stark 4a
Wow skitbra ju. Tight som en tiger! Förväntade mig inte demongitarr efter att ha endast hört dom i gta. Weird genre också med covers från yacht rock. Speciellt summer breeze var otroligt. Otroligt stark fyra!
Really only liked 3 songs from 3 + 3. Top tracks: That Lady, Pts. 1&2, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, Summer Breeze, Pts. 1&2
This is a 4/5 album and 5/5 group. If you liked this album, check out their hits... their songs were the main sample in 'Big Poppa' and 'It Was A Good Day.'
day 5 of not rolling Aja by Steely Dan ok isley brothers, i didn't know what you were working with. i do apologize. i did not know your game. this is dead sexy.
this is a worlllllld premieeeeere
Didn’t realize that this was basically the whole Anchorman soundtrack
I really love the Isley Brothers, the entire vibe is right up my alley. Their newest album was on repeat for a bit when it came out. Great covers of the Doobie Brothers' "Listen to the Music" and Seals & Croft's "Summer Breeze," two of my favorite (and my parents' favorite) oldies.
While some blues musicians made deals with devil for their fame, these funky fellas signed a holy contract with God. Joyous stuff. Fun facts: it’s 3+3 because they added three more guys to the band for this album. And still 5 of ‘em are brothers, plus a brother-in-law. The Isley Brothers are among the great records that you can find for under $10 in the used bins at your local shop. Bring them home!
So far, this is definitely one of my favorite ’70s funk albums. It’s got a great combination of rock, soul, and R&B all mixed together. The best way to describe it would be classy, funky, and smooth. They also did an excellent cover of Seals and Crofts’ “Summer Breeze”.
Pretty good, classic sound. Obviously "That Lady" is all over culture and I had no idea who the artist was, so it's great to listen to their additional stuff. I can see how this had tons of influence on 90s boy bands that came later.
Музыка приятная, но несколько переслащённая.
Ok
Ta buenooo, aunque ninguna individual me mató
Just heard 10 seconds and loved it the vibes
Cool!
Very cool. Didn't know the artist, although I knew the song Summer breeze. The whole album is very good, but that song takes it to the next level. 4,5/5.
Originals are solid (especially that 5 min That Lady), covers mostly just make me want to hear the originals (outside of the guitar work).
That lady pts. 1 & 2: bra i starten, men melodien i slutten blei litt repetitivt. Litt ‘høylytt’ jazz på en måte. 7,2/10 Don’t let me be lonely tonight: likte denne ganske godt, veldig rolig og fin. 8/10.
Embarrassingly I’ve never listened to any Isley Brothers before (except for Summer Breeze, which before yesterday I couldn’t have told you was them). This was an effortlessly cool album. I’m the least cool person I know, but feel cooler for listening to it. Highlights: Some voice! Epic guitar riffs that make you want to dance. Sexiest break up song I’ve ever heard (You Walk Your Way). Lowlights: Some questionable lyrics in That Lady. Don’t love the fade outs. Top tunes: That Lady, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, obviously Summer Breeze. 3.5
Nice funky sexy album. Easy to listen to. Very GotG, could easily have been a Starlord Gamora tune in there. 4.5/5
It was Incredible
Very cool album, knew summer breeze but otherwise completely new. Not my usual stuff but really enjoyed it. Feel like this sounds inspired childish gambinos redbone album
Each song has a great hook and very catchy but felt they all went on too long in a repetitive manner - great if you are tripping (I imagine)
Firstly, Summer Breeze is the only Isley Brothers song I knew before listening to this album and it’s banger for driving on an open road when the sun is out. The rest of this album I could take or leave. Good for some Friday evening background music for winding down and not much else. 2.5
It's fine, I just am so sick of rock/funk/soul albums. It makes up an overwhelming majority of this album and I'm feeling the funky fatigue.
Pleasant. The singles are the best tunes by far.
I think often soul music is synonymous with smooth vocals and such. But we should probably pay more attention to how much soul music is chock full of amazing musicianship elsewhere. The guitar in “That Lady” is exactly what I mean. The lyrics, simple as simple can be with that harmonized, repeated question, are easily one-upped by that iconic guitar, doodling around with that signature tone on it. I could probably listen to twice as much of that without getting tired. Of course, the album does make its bread and butter on those vocals. The bulk of the album mines that vein to solid effect. But it also gives the perpetual dad-rock anthem “Listen to the Music” a groove that makes it feel like a real song, without skimping on the harmony that drives it. It makes the dull adult contemporary of Summer Breeze absolutely rip. And it also has a lot of enjoyable and competent 70s soul to round it all out. Really a nice little palate cleanser for the day. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Coll stuff kannte ich nicht
