Reviews (page 3 of 12)

These guys are good.

I absolutely love this album. Ron CC Isley’s voice can make you want to kick it up, romance the night away or just go with the summer breeze. Who’s That Lady is a classic/ I can still hear it streaming out of the student housing in my college years. Never knew Jimi Hendrix played with the Isleys. Funk and vibe and dance at it’s best,

Lots of covers but delicious soul

Ripping guitars, flawless vocals, and a "Summer Breeze" cover? 5 stars all the way

The definition of the phrase, “This fucks.”

Dus tja.

i really enjoyed every song on this album

Lovely album. So many good songs.

This rules.

A mix of classics and really fresh, creative covers. 10/10

I think this was almost a perfect album. Beautiful and melody driven. I love the vocals and instrumentation. Every guitar solo is amazing!

M encanta

• That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2 Iconic. Guitar rips. • Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight Slow jam carried by sweet vocals. • If You Were There Keys are fine, tone is a bit cliche. Vocals highlight again. • You Walk Your Way Keys highlight. Heartfelt amicable split-up track. • Listen to the Music Hell yea, Stevie Wonder cover. Bass highlights. • What it Comes Down To Solid. Key and guitar solos are gnarly. • Sunshine (Go Away Today) Enjoy how bass and tone on keys reflects grumpy lyrics of the track. • Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2 No wayyy, this is the sample on the one lofi-type album Ben showed me way back (All in My Mind?). This song is incredible. Guitar soars with that gritty tone. Man does 4:20 on hit. • The Highways of My Life I love the tone on the keys in this one. Very good closer track with lyrics describing love for one who has fundamentally changed. Overall, no true skips. Vocals, keys, bass, and guitar all had tracks to stand on their own. Favorite tracks: That Lady, Listen to the Music, Summer Breeze, The Highways of My Life (Cool little interviews on Spotify too.)

I thought all the songs were pretty good, enjoyed the production.

Every song just makes you happy. Dude on the guitar shredded. So enjoyable 9.5/10

LOOOOOVE

3 + 3 = 5 A straight up feel-good album. So funky, soulful, and smooth. Some might knock it for being very cover-heavy but those covers are seriously great.

Muy interesante!

An amazing album!

This is exceptional, except for Summer Breeze >:(

Hot take: Earnie Isley may be a better guitarist than Jimi Hendrix🔥

yet another funky funk album that's on this massive list, and it's another that i really enjoyed listening. some of it love-makin' music, some of it smooth sailing and chillaxin' to the max...in. my descriptions suck, but this album is awesome. greatly written, greatly mastered. love it love it love it! funk me up daddy.

Short but Sweet - so many hits!

A smooth and funky set. Some of the covers outshine the originals.

First time knowingly hearing them. Recognized so many great songs on this album.

I absolutely loved listening to this album. Between the original tracks that have been the inspiration, some being straight up samples, for other great songs and the covers, I thought it was fantastic. Who would have thought you could improve on a James Taylor classic? Excellent melodies and lyrics, great musical techniques, and just the right amount of funk. The only critique I can give it is that I couldn’t tell much difference between the regular tracks and the different versions offered on the back half of the album. But, I do think the commentaries are a pretty cool addition. I haven’t given out many fives, but I think this is deserving.

Nice, funky, fun to listen to! Really good funky record. Loved listening to it. Not boring at all. Could become a new favourite.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Funk, Soul, R&B. Nice album with a good mood. I love the bass lines and the guitars here, and it all just grooves. Definitely gonna listen to it more often.

Bangin, pure samples

iconic

Need to order this on vinyl.

Funky, sultry, smooth. This is a really fun album, and a great display of musicality. I feel like this would make an excellent evening walk album, where you can just vibe and relax to the killer tones being played for you. The "Part 2" sections on the couple tracks really let the guitarist show his chops and were an excellent addition. Excellent vocals and chemistry with the group too. Awesome album and a great find in this experiment! Fav tracks: Summer Breeze, Pts 1 & 2, That Lady, Pts 1& 2, What It Comes Down To

a smooth vibey album, fave songs are summer breeze, that lady and listen to the music☺️

Amazing album - so heavily sampled. The interviews on the deluxe version were so interesting and I had no idea they’re from Cincinnati, Ohio!

Such a groovy album!! Immediately recognized "That Lady" as the sample for "I" by Kendrick Lamar

Just banger after banger. Fantastic album.

Summer Breeze has just come on and this meeting can wait.

In a word, I’m stunned. I’d heard of the Isley Brothers before, as one of the legends, but apart from a few key tracks, hadn’t really engaged with their work. This album was amazing. The vocals… amazing. The instrumentation… fantastic. Variety… plenty of it, but not too much to distract from the work as a whole. After a few duds for me, finally an album I absolutely agree should be on this list.

❤️

- Never listened to an Isley Brothers album in full before, but recognised a few of the tracks - Wasn't expecting to like this anywhere near as much as I did - Really good and different to other funk albums I've heard - Fav songs: That Lady, You Walk Your Way, Summer Breeze

This album slaps. Its groovy and funky and flows nicely.

Wow. This is the sh@t!!! Awesome and I especially love the covers.

I really liked this. He's got a good voice and the instrumentals are fantastic in my opinion. This was a very unexpected 5/5

Did you know Jimi Hendrix played with these guys?

Love this album! Great tunes by a foundational group

I loved this album, it was super chill and easy to listen to while I got some errands done. I definitely recognized some of the songs like Summer Breeze and Sunshine. Very classic funk/soul album.

So smooth

👍👍

Amazing album, could listen on repeat again and again. Summer breeze is my favourite but every song on this album is gold

Some stone-cold classics on here, I’m sorry I never actually listened to the album before

The Lady - sampled in 'I' - Kendrick Lamar Listen to the Music - certified banger Album cover = all time poses & fashion

I really liked this album. I thought they did the covers well. Overall, this album was great Top tracks: That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight

Reminder of my younger days. Still smooth vocals.

Da da da da da da down the highwaaaaaaaays

One of the best of all time!!!!

This brought me back to Saturday mornings in my childhood. Listening and doing weekly chores.

Excellent. Most songs have been covered by other artists.

Excellent album. You can really hear how this album influenced music for the next 40 or 50 years. I look forward to going back through the Isley Brothers catalogue.

What a masterpiece. Soulful, funky, bluesy, poppy. It's a classic that everyone should love.

This is so good. I’ll be adding it to my roster ASAP. Gorgeous and funky and iconic songs to boot.

So dreamy

So beautiful

6 stars!

i love it. i love the funk, the disco, the everything. definitely up my lane

How can one album contain so much funkitude? I love it when bands make covers uniquely their own. Listen to the Music, Sunshine... Summer Breeze! Good lord. That was incredible. Takes the original and makes into something entirely transcendent. (If Prince wasn't listening to these guys while growing up, then I have no idea about anything.)

bas moji tip "duše"

lmao kendrick sampled the first track, always liked the instrumentation from 'i' so off to a great start aw man what a great album.. maybe bumping it a bit due to my vibe today but its a 5 for me

I expected this to be good, but The Isley Brothers completely blew me away. The vocals are perfectly mixed and smooth as hell - but it’s Ernie Isley’s Hendrix-inspired guitar playing that turns out to be the scene stealer time and time again. This is funky soul trip is in a class of its own. Simply excellent.

This shit slaps. Great guitar solo, good bass and drums, good keyboard. I absolutely love the bass. They keyboard really drives the music to an amazing direction. A funky version of "Listen to the music" is everything I have ever wanted.

This album is undeniably excellent. Recording and production is perfect, the harmonies are beautiful. It's a perfect length. They breathe their own life into the cover songs they included on this album. It's nearly flawless.

Fantastic from start to finish. A chilled out and funky album with plenty of surprisingly cool guitar solos on it. A must listen.

what an absolute VIBE, loved it!

9/10 Such an enjoyable album to listen to

funky, rock, soul, etc love it, dancing all night

the band that gave Jimi Hendrix a good start...

3 + 3 = 6/5!!!!

Vibes: chill and groovy

Fantastic groove with the retro organ sounds and slap bass that you need to grind through a Wednesday.

Roots funk!

Some great soul, funk and rock sounds here. A couple of the tracks took me back to the 70s. Really like the bass and lead guitar. Great album.

Solid solid solid!

2 seconds in and I'm grinning. The music soars from some funky rhythm guitar strumming, before a hell of a guitar line shines through. Some lovely singing eases us in, checks in on us, makes sure we're all settled and comfortable, before the main show starts. And what a show it is. Five songs in, we're commanded to listen to the music. With pleasure.

I listened to this yesterday morning, then yesterday afternoon Rudolph Isley died; weird coincidence. Rip to a giant.

Great album!

Already in my rotation, nice first album for the project!

Fantastic vibes

Amazing album. Great soul and funk.

Funky R&B journey, including such classics as Summer Breeze. Extremely listenable.

This album slaps beginning to end

Isley Brothers nice

Groove and riffs with a dash of psych

3+3 is 9, and these are nine wonderful tracks. That Lady and Summer Breeze will always be classics, and are complemented well by the others. Sheer fuzzing psychedelic guitar perfection. Covers are fantastic. Any reason not to give it five stars? Don't think so.

Groovy beats that can't help but to elevate one's mood.

Impossible not to love; classic after classic

Another album that feels like a complete package. I really like how the songs flow in to one another and I've mentioned it before but it's such a shame that that's kind of become a lost art in and of itself. The songs themselves were all good, not a single bad song on there, would give this one the highest of recommendations, nice, classic, upbeat Soul music with a splash of R&B. This album also has two quadraphonic mixes too so if you're able too, definitely replace Sunshine and Summer Breeze in your playlist with these versions as they bring out details in the songs I'd never heard before. Stand out songs: - That Lady - Sunshine (Go Away Today) - Summer Breeze - I was introduced to this song via Trammell Starks and although I prefer their cover, this cover is still brilliant. Two very different takes of the same song that both work in their own right. - The Highways of My Life

I first heard the Isley Brothers in the OST for Jackie Brown by Tarentino. I really dig this sort of music, especially That Lady, Pts. 1 and 2 and Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 and 2 - probably because I've listened most to those tracks, but the entire album is great.

Loved it, very funky, great to dance to. From the first track, "That Lady", I was hooked.

Absolute Rammer, listened to this already twice today. Great album for getting stuff done and having a boogie while doing it.

Gorgeous.

Man, did I really enjoy this album. Lots of great songs and beautiful music. 5/5

Includes the best versions of songs you grew tired of hearing or never realized you loved, until now. You'll forget Seals and Crofts ever did a version of "Summer Breeze". This surely inspired an episode of What's Happening featuring the character Rerun getting busted for illegally recording a Doobie Brothers concert. An underrated master work.

The hits still sound great, and the other tracks are good too. They're one flashy high production cover from being revived into public consciousness.

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up! Would listen to this on repeat

Cracking album. Delicious mix of funk, rock and soul. The harmonies work so nicely and the instrumentation is great. The cover of Summer Breeze has long been a favourite for me

Having never listened to an Isley Brothers album, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I really enjoyed it, especially the cover of "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," which gives the song a soul feeling that James Taylor is incapable of giving the song. This is must-listen for me and I will be looking at their discography further.

Incredible R&B/Soul album. Check out "If you were there", great highlight of this LP.

This vibe is 🔥

Good stuff. Mr. Isley has a beautifully smooth voice, the instrumentation is on point, covers are excellent. Nothing bad here.

1973: A great year for music A lot of classics from this album and songs I knew but didn't realize. Absolutely a vibe in and of itself. Interesting to learn that this is the album where the 3 brothers incorporated 3 other musicians for the first time, though now the name makes it seem obvious

Perfection

Has there ever been a band cooler than this, The Isleys in 1973 singing “That Lady?” Doubtful. You get the feeling, as with Parliament Funkadelic and some other black bands that dared to blur the lines between soul and rock, that the Isley Brothers never quite got the due they deserved. At least when compared to the glorified reputation of all those beloved white acts they influenced. But the sustained relevancy of this band through the contemporary age of hip-hop is undeniable and powerful. They’re just simply one of the greatest bands that ever was. And this might be their greatest album. I have some qualms perhaps with some of the covers. “Listen To The Music” for instance doesn’t do much for me that the Doobie’s version didn’t. I feel similarly about Jonathon Edwards’ “Sunshine (Go Away Today)” (though, in that case, the original doesn’t do anything for me either.) I do like their version of “Summer Breeze,” and quite a bit more than the original—they turn that cloying pop song into an super-groovy soul ballad complete with soaring/shredding guitar solos—but still weird to hear a Seals and Crofts song cropping up here. The James Taylor cut is less good as a cover but still pretty nice. I guess these just strike me as odd choices—that they cover all these soft pop hits of the early 70s and cut them against funk originals (well, almost) like “That Lady.” It speaks to the groups versatility. But also to their want for a top ten hit. I mean, even “That Lady” is a cover of their own earlier song, though it is much, much improved and wholly distinct. A masterpiece, really. Perhaps the closing track, a soft-poppy Isley’s original, puts these choices in context. But where some of the covers feel shallow, “The Highways of my Life” has much more depth and soul. It feels heartfelt and vital and its presence echoes as a closer. Beyond the extended version of “That Lady” (which has some sick jams the radio missed out on!), my favorite discovery here was “You Walk Your Way,” a groovy, bouncy jam, with a great organ riff that reminds me of listening to The Band in the springtime. And I love, love the synth solo in “What It Comes Down To.” Overall, I have some qualms with the covers that knock my rating of this album a bit, but I’m still going to round up to 5 because some of them do really work and I mean…come on! It’s the Isley Brothers! 5/5.

Right off the bat it’s a rocking tune with a cool gutiar and funky drums. Vocals are great as I’m listening to the first song After listening for a minute I here the bass and it really mesh with the rest of the instruments

Thought this was great. Old school upbeat R&B. It’s the album that the track ‘Who’s that Lady’ is from.

Love love love - soul groove funk sweetness

Groove-tastic, fat beats, some cool stuff the Beasties stole and a great Doobie Brothers cover! 5 stars.

The Isley Brothers are pure magic Starting that record with ‘Who’s That Lady’, a nice hit for them sets the tone Covers of 3 pop/rock songs shows their versatility A great party record all around, wish I still had those bell bottoms

Before today, I'd heard of the Isley Brothers, notably their songs It's Your Thing, That Lady, Between the Sheets, and Shout. Every time I hear That Lady, I think of the Swiffer commercial where the broom falls in love with a flamingo, its hilarious. These guys started as a Quartet with the four oldest boys: Kelly, Rudolph, Ronnie, and Vernon singing gospel in their local church. Shortly after that, Vernon got struck by a car and killed, causing them to take a step back and reassess things. Some time later, younger brothers Ernie and Marvin, along with Rudolph's brother in law, Chris Jasper were brought on, making it a sextet. Ernie Isley is a fucking insane guitar player (notably the guitar solos in That Lady, and Summer Breeze). Turns out that Jimi Hendrix used to tour with the Isley Brothers early on, when Ernie was young, and before he joined the group. Ernie loved how Jimi played guitar, and learned a lot about how he plays from Jimi. After Jimi left, Ernie joined, and the rest is history. Marvin Isley's bass playing is so smooth and funky, especially on Sunshine (Go Away Today). Ronnie Isley's voice is so soulful and can go from gritty and raw to smooth and buttery. A few cover songs round out this album, and the Isley Brothers did an excellent job of making them their own. A few stand outs include the Doobie Brothers song Listen to the Music, and Seals and Crofts song Summer Breeze. Overall, a phenomenal record, and one I will definately be listening to again!! So much talent in one band, let alone in one family!! Favourite songs: "That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2", Listen to the Music, What It Comes Down To, Sunshine (Go Away Today), "Summer Breeze, Pts. 1 & 2" Least favourite songs: I literally can't pick one, this album is gold! 5/5

Yet another soul/funk album that just absolutely fucks. The first track blew me away with its insane guitar work and I was completely on board the rest of the way; the next brightest spot is you walk your way. It pulls off slower songs and energetic, happy songs perfectly and is a perfect blend of funk and soul that is just so soothing to listen to. Also you know it's good when Kendrick Lamar samples one of your songs.

My god, this album is phenomenal. The music is tight and exploratory and features sounds and textures that I hear in progressive rap. Side 1 of the album is more upbeat and feels more soul/R&B flavored. Side 2 takes a darker and more introspective turn, especially in the ironically named 'Sunshine (Go Away Today).' This music features interesting melodic intervals, incredible guitar work, and overall more funk and jazz influenced music. Overall, not being too familiar with the Isley Brothers' post 50s/60s work, I was blown away. They managed to do something that sounded and still sounds fresh, listenable, yet musically interesting. The really interesting thing is that it's almost as if they were influenced by their own music in previous decades.

Isley Brothers are top tier for me. I've listened to That Lady an insane number of times since I was little. The background vox still crack me up. Some great covers on this record. The energy is top tier. Perfect example of soul from this era.

Never heard of em before. I hope it's funky. Delivered. "Listen to the music was the favorite"

me ENCANTÓ música completamente disfrutable posta muy muy bueno 9/10

Might request "That Lady" as my entrance music to something one day...

Far more enjoyable than I’d expected and so many bangers on here that I knew well but could never have named the artist if you’d asked me.

Very groovy, the interview parts where great to listen to as a "podcast"

Some absolute classics and some knockout covers on here. Who's That Lady has infinite airplay for a reason. And that Summer Breeze cover? Blissful. Peaceful. Unbothered. Unhurried. Amazing.

Superb album, a joy to have an excuse to listen to it uninterrupted.

Certified classic

previously listened to: no favorite song: don't let me be lonely tonight least favorite song: listen to the music pros: VOCALS!!!! they are so smooth and enjoyable. the overall vibe of this album is just so enjoyable and makes for an entertaining listen. cons: can be repetitive at times, production seems choppy at times would i listen to again: yes, its just a fun and easy listen

brilliant

Such a great album. The covers of Summer Breeze, Listen to the Music, and Don’t Let Me Lonely are all better than the originals versions and I love those songs too. The lead guitar tones( That Lady) and playing are amazing. Highway of my Mind is a great song.

This is such a great record! All the grooves are so tight but they still feel raw. Drums and guitars sound awesome, love the fuzzed out Isley tone. A lot of great funk records have cheesy stupid ballads, but even the ballads are great on this one!

The best soul meets the best rock and the whole thing is absolute magic from start to finish. Hendrix was in the band for a while and THIS IS STILL BETTER. That Lady and Summer Breeze are the hits and they're great, but everything else, save for maybe one schmaltzy ballad meets that standard. Can't believe I waited my whole life so far before getting around to this.

Phenomenal

Stone cold soulful grooves. Could give it 5 for the definitive version of Summer Breeze, I don't want it to end. Although the original is pretty fine as well. That Lady, what it comes down to, not every song here is 5 star classic - but most of them are.

Really good, funking soulful dancefloor ballads. Elevated by the additional of little brother Ernie providing screaming guitar licks on the 2 phenomenal singles.

Fantastic. I've obviously known of The Isley Brothers for ever, but had never really listened to them. Great stuff.

I lenjoyed this. Great vocals and some really nice guitar solos too. Would listen again

psychedelic bad ass funk

Smooth and dirty

So underappreciated.

Absolutely chocked full of bangers.

Great soul album

First listen. I love the Isley Brothers. Heard many of those songs many times but it was good to listen to that album.

Classics

Great mix of R&B slow jams and bangers. Still holds up incredibly well 50 years later

Lots of songs that have been sampled in newer songs. What a legendary album to visit. So funky, you can’t help but dance!

Such a mood

Solid palette cleanser of an album, very great vibes on this one. It transitions between funky and soulful seamlessly and the guitar tones and wah-wah pedals are in full bloom here. Lots of covers which was surprising, but seems like these guys have a massive discography so they've earned a little songwriting break I'd say. Really enjoyed this, I can't imagine anyone listening to this and hating it.

Trop bon. Du funk a letat pur. Tellement de sample on eteprit dans cet album les isley brother sont lws maitres dur iffs. 5***

The masters of funk at the top of their game, completely in control of every note. Both the originals and the covers sparkle with vibrancy.

Not in my wheelhouse. It's great tho!

This was great

This album came up today, and I thought, "This is gonna be a good day." Get ready, coworkers and neighbors. I'm gonna crank it.

I cannot believe how many songs I thought of that sampled from this album. Whole thing is a jam, this kicked ass. Easy 5.

Only recently gotten into to the Isley Bros but I had no idea that they wrote so many amazing songs. This was a pretty good album and had a lot of the big songs that I do know but I am not sure about it as an album. Monster musicians

So dang good, guitar is so tasty 🤤

If this album doesn't get your toes tapping your dead.

God DAMN

That's 6y

Just really good soul and funk

Fuckin' A! If there's any music that grooves harder than this album, I have NO IDEA what it is. Absolutely love it. 5/5

My first introduction to soul and I’m happy.

Elegantemente elegante

Not as good as I was expecting it to be - but admittedly I had very, very high expectations. More soul than funk. The talent is extraordinary, but I'd prefer their later stuff.

Who's that music, sexy music?! It's this album. I don't think it's part of the original album, but the interviews with the brothers are a cool addition. Fun to learn about all the influence they've had over the years - and continue to have

Ida jammed! Who’s that baby, indeed. Started getting hungry around Summer Breeze and was asleep before the guitar solo. Slept peacefully through the last song.

Groovy as hell. Undeniably great.

One of these perfect 70s soul albums that never grow old. Some great originals and some great covers. (Would be nice if "The Heat is On" is also on the list but I suppose it isn't.)

Gostei muito, porém é repetitivo. Não conhecia a banda.

Peak Soul, with intriguing shadings into rock. Hardly any filler, my only quibble being the lyrics mostly really aren’t very deep (the metaphors in Highways... bordering on mawkish). First rate overall.

damn, these guys are so talented great album 10/10

Great album, sad that the only streaming version I found had a bunch of weird bonus tracks (I recommend only listening to the original track listing). That Lady and Summer Breeze are obvious highlights.

I loved the smooth 70’s funky groove! I was smiling a lot while listening. Summer Breeze…come on, what a great version of the song!

This was so fun! Love the extended version of That Lady with its wailing guitar solo and the other original songs especially You Walk Your Way and The Highways of My Life. And then there are a bunch of delightful covers that I wouldn't have expected to work but absolutely do. I loved the soulful Don't Let Me Be Lonely and Summer Breeze (more wailing guitar!) and the funky Listen to the Music and Sunshine. Terrific addition to my library. I'm really loving the records from the early 70s that have been showing up recently, new-to-me albums from familiar-to-me artists. Great fun.

Those guitar solos!

Quality vibes.

Funk, rock, blues. Really deserve their on-going, eight decade career. Added.

This was so good! So groovy, funky, soulful. I enjoyed this album immensely. 5/5 stars.

enjoyed it

i love the isley brothers but god that album format 🤢

230921 17:24 4.5

Brilliant album. Like a greatest hits record - but nah this is just our eleventh album. Phenomenal funk, toe tapping, major vibes, genius musicians.

Cracker of an album

Ernie Isley is nice with it

Sensational

Some great songs on here, will definitely listen again.

The Isley Brothers absolutely kick ass always

10/10- excellent. That Lady is a classic and the rest of the album did not disappoint.

Life affirming.

Groovy stuff on this one. 4.5 bumped down to 4.

I love it! what a great start

Liked! Super chillin and great vibes.

Groovy

Incredible style, very pleasant to listen to! Musicianship is strong and the vocals are great!

"Twist and Shout" is an Isley Brothers song, and that was actually all I knew about them. I guessed they made soul music, but I had never listened to them actively and wasn't really aware that "That Lady" was theirs as well. And "Listen to the Music"—I thought that was by the Doobie Brothers... or is it? (Turns out, it's a great cover!). This was a fantastic listen! It has a beautiful, warm '70s sound with funky guitars, incredible vocals, and great melodies. I am no soul music expert—I hardly own any soul albums, although I've always been interested in learning more. This was a perfect opportunity to dive a bit deeper into the genre. As long as it stays authentic with that warm sound, and doesn't lean too far into disco or dance music, I am all in. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is one of those albums that I completely understand why it's on the list and had a good time listening to (especially the handful of tracks I was already familiar with) but it's not something I would opt for normally because it's not really my genre. Undeniably a band full of incredibly talented people!

I had no clue I'd know so many of those songs.

Immediate dopamine hit.

Before listening to this I didn't realize how much I liked Ronald Isley's voice, and it is on display here in a superb way. One of my favorite voices from this era of funk, I think. Funky bass lines, masterfully layered instrumentals, and some really excellent covers make for a solid album that I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. Instantly improved my mood, and I'll be keeping that in mind for the future! Favorite tracks: You Walk Your Way, Summer Breeze

this healed me a little bit today

очень сэкшуал, очень сэншуал, вери фанки, вери чанки 4/5 вполне для жанра

Psychedelic soul fits well with me, my deep dive with the Isley Brothers started in my teens. This is probably the second album I've heard, since I'm sure I dove into the record with Footsteps In the Dark. I appreciate the Al Green-ish falsettos and the inclination towards that blues-rock guitar. I'd buy this for my collection, but I admit there's a lot of filler between the bangers. Since it's a genre that suits me, those songs feel like they have growing potential, like maybe after a few weeks they'll start sounding in my background thoughts. I recognize that's an issue of personal taste, so I wouldn't recommend this effort to someone looking to be swayed by classic old-school soul. This one's more for those of us who already appreciate it. 4.1/5

4★/5 07.03.2026

A solid soul album

I liked this! Fun! I liked that lady and summer breeze

I like summer breeze and I like that lady and I liked this album overall

Holy shit I immediately recognized the first song as the sample for i by Kendrick Lamar on TPAB. What a fucking sample.

Absolutely cracking album. Some fantastic funk and soul stuff here. Absolutely loved every song from first to last. Some I didn't even realise was them. Wouldn't complain listening to this again and again.

It’s funny that the previous album I had was Fatboy Slim because these are the real Funk Soul Brothers. It’s impressive that this is their eleventh record. It’s so easy to listen to.

Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight is an absolute banger

Härlig vibe och jag blev faktiskt intresserad och lyssnade på intervjuerna som råkade vara med på versionen som var länkad.

Riktigt bra vibes!

This bumped - cant even be made that a few of these are covers bc they're great versions.

If you don’t think “That Lady” has one of the best guitar parts of all time than we have nothing in common and we’re not friends Also their summer breeze cover is way better

346/1089 that guitar intro instantly gave me good vibes really enjoying the clean funky vibes IMMEDIATELY recognised the start of Summer Breeze, how beautiful and atmospheric a pretty great album, i think i’ll come back to this for sure 75/100

Fantastic album. Some excellent guitar, great funk, awesome jams

an album i was surprised that whilst i've never listened to the individual tracks before, i've heard half of the album before. people must love sampling and covering this album. and like... it's good enough to deserve that!!!!

IF YOU WERE THERE BY WHAM IS A COVER WHAT? I LOVE THAT SONG, AND IT'S A COVER, AND I HAD NO IDEA. Anyways, this album is so heavily sampled for a reason, and that's because it's so good. The funky, groovy sound is so fun, and it results in a great listening experience. Summer Breeze is the best on the album, but the rest are so sweet. His vocals do get a bit annoying, but I can't take too much off of it because of it. Honestly, Peter Cox (from Go West) should definitely do a cover of this whole album, as his voice would match it so well.

The most enjoyable funk so far, this album was consistently up-tempo in a really enjoyable way. I'll definitely return to this soon.

There are a few good hits on this thing that make this a fun listen, enough to round up a 3.5-star album to a 4-star album.

I'll listen again

This is some funky, smooth as butter tunes. Me likey a lot.

Save for the occasional sappy balad to make love to, this is some excellent funk. The fuzzy guitar work on this has and will continue to be sampled for good reason.

For some reason, I'm not even at the 100th album but this platform already gave me most soul albums from lesser known artist, and oh my god I love it. I really discovered I enjoy this genre a lot, alongside my metal side. Oh well. I even heards some... artists from today sample this music. Oh well again. Like just 3 days ago I got the Sister Sledge album, and althrough I loved that one more, this one slays as well. Is just so smooth, it really is that music that takes you in another world/time, but as a whole a little less memorable to me. I like how it morphs into rock towards the end after the disco party, like in What It Comes Down To ,Sunshin Summer Breeze and ends so softly with the Highways of My Life. Definetly a good mix.

very funky, it grew on me a lot as I listened. 4/5.

Anytime I see Summer Breeze it always makes me think of a quote by the Yacht Rock guys that Seals & Crofts wrote it while smuggling and the breeze is bullets whizzing by. Good album

Good tunes, I recognize that Lamar cover eh

solid!

Funky stuff

A solid album throughout. Some good funky hits.

That Lady, Pts. 1 & 2 [10/10] || "i" SAMPLED THIS??? HEAT I FEAR Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight [8/10] If You Were There [7.5/10] You Walk Your Way [6.9/10] Listen to the Music [7.9/10] The Highways of My Life [7.9/10] || the intro is SOOOOOOO 🤌🤌🤌🤌

I didn't realize how many of these songs were covers. They all absolutely rock.

i enjoy the funk of this album

Really really enjoyed it.

recognised a lot of stuff here from it being sampled in more modern tracks, this had a very smooth sound to it, very relaxing listen. the more albums i get from here the more great funk stuff i find, it's great

'That Lady' and 'Summer Breeze' are totemic all-time genre greats and somehow the rest of it is great too even if it rarely reaches quite this highs. But what a sound, what a band, what voices.

It's hard for me to see how anyone could dislike this album. The Isley Brothers' brand of super smooth, funky, sunshiney soul music is ridiculously likeable and fun, and it always manages to put me in a good mood. There's a lot of strong musicianship at play here, with some especially great guitar and bass parts. The fuzzed out guitar solos in particular bring a slight edge to the otherwise smooth textures. Ronald Isley is an incredible singer, bringing a lot of charisma to the table whether he's performing an uptempo funk banger or a sensual ballad. You've probably heard soul in this vein plenty of times, but it's very rarely been executed this well.

Two absolute grade a worldies, some very strong album tracks and two clunkers, definition of a perfect four

This album is like taking a girl home for the first time after a long relationship. You're a bit older now, not the over-excited young thruster that you used to be. You used to just be excited to be granted the opportunity, and nervous to do a good job. But now you've been with a few women, and you feel no pressure. You're just going to enjoy the moment.

Great funky tunes

When to listen: grooving down the street on a sunny day. I love funk, I love a cover, so obviously I enjoyed the album but just a litttttle too cheesy to get the full 5.

7 - GOOD

Very good soul/r&b music. Feels like the definition of sex music

really enjoyed this - nice 70s vibes.

Summer breeze. That Lady.

Сара 4 Марко 4-

Great energy, fun, tight, covers I didn't know I needed.

Great album! I really loved some of this songs especially summer breeze!

Realy god!!!***

Classic, enjoyable listen

A really fun, funky, warm album. Especially liked "What It Comes Down To".

Goated

Great listen today — love the vibe throughout the album. Love the guitar effect in the first track it’s such a unique sound.

Immediately won me over with a guitar riff in the opener that’s sampled by Kendrick in one of my favorite albums of all time. The grooves didn’t stop after that, rolling through the whole thing and making for great listening. 1 listen Favorite Track: That Lady

Expectation: -> A familiar name but that's all. After listening: -> Musically, this is a five-star album. It has songs that are ingrained in the minds of generation X and beyond, even if not these precise versions. Love this band's sound/style. "The thing I struggle with is that two songs have a ""Pts 1 & 2,"" there are three single versions, there are two SQ-Squad Mix versions, and four interviews. I would love to hear the album as it was released in 1973." Track ranking: Breeze Lady Music Lonely Highways Walk Comes Down To Sunshine If You

This was a really fun album. I was surprised that the covers were done just a year after the initial release. Usually the songs get a little time to breathe before they're covered.

Peak isley brothers. Although they established themselves 13 years earlier they never sounded as good as this. Highways of my life the highlight amongst a plethora of great songs including the cover version but definitive version of summer breeze.

I enjoyed this a lot actually, my wife would love this album. May add it to the vinyl collection.

Omg! This album was sooooooooooo good it’s hard to pick just one song i liked but my fav was probably: what it comes down to

Summer Breeze is the only song I'm familiar with but I'll listen to this album again.

Très très cool

✨✨✨✨✨

groovy af. todos temazos. no notes. me encantó. muy buen album para escuchar mientras cocinas. mis favoritas, summer breeze y that lady for sure

Tykkäsin paljon, hyvää hyvänmielen musiikkia. Kuulosti vähän jackson 5 mut vanhemmilla laulajilla

This one was really enjoyable and easy to listen to! Nice cover of Listen to the Music, too.

Great guitar work and some great songs, including ‘Summer Breeze’, which must be on everyone’s summer playlist.

Top heavy but good throughout.

simply phenomenal. That Lady should be preserved on like the golden record we send to space

This was very pleasant but not enough to listen to all the bonus tracks

Situationally brilliant album that, not in the situation, sounds ridiculous. I'll bet this album sold a lot of R&B synthesizers

This album evokes summer afternoons on brownstone stoops in the city during a long-gone era. Love the Doobie Brothers and Seals & Croft covers, and it’s nice to be reminded that “That Lady” wasn’t originally written for television commercials — and that it’s a pretty great song. It’s another album that offers some great examples of what the clavinet keyboard can add to funk. Lastly, Ernie Isley is a helluva guitarist.

This was great, I wasn’t sure if it was the originals or covers of some songs but this is the kind of soul funk that put a smile on my face from start to finish.

i love an album where you can rly see how it inspired other music/features and samples

i was familiar with a handful of isley brothers songs but hadnt ever listened to a full album. wild to think about how many songs have sampled them (i looked up summer breeze and its been sampled in 102 songs!!!) overall a very enjoyable listen! fave- summer breeze

Best Track - "Summer Breeze"

Music you could listen to forever

Funky goodness.

There are some lovely songs on here, actually enjoyed the album through start to finish. I do think that the lead guitarist has had a bit too much free reign on the songs, especially That Lady, Summer Breeze (outro), Sunshine (Go Away Today). Other than that getting a little tiring there is a brilliant blend of covers and originals. The harmonies are of course a highlight. It's an almost unique demonstration of a band emerging from Motown as a 60s vocal group to a fully fledged 70s full band with full artistic license and songwriting control. All credit to them for it.

This is the kind of soul/funk I like. Especially the guitar segments are fantastic. That gives this album that tiny extra, which makes this a four star affair. Or is it the sunny weather that I appreciate this music at the moment more. 4/5

4/5 Favorite Songs: That Lady Pts. 1&2 Listen to the Music Sunshine Summer Breeze

ope! sunshine babyyyy. groovy sun, i feel like im on a boat, or walking in the city in the summer. their sounds are soo cool & innovative. (okayy ernie!? holy fuzz!) hm. is this ... yacht soul? idk if im the exaaact audience for this album (what woman hurt you, ronald!?) but im still groovin and there are LEGENDARY songs here.

Ohhhh what a summer vibe, really enjoyed !

Bangers originals and funky covers

4 - classics i knew without knowing who sung them

Solid. Hittararnir góðir og restin mjög þétt!

Flott föstudagsfönk. Góður hljóðfæraleikur og söngur. Alveg til í að hlusta á aftur.

Smooth and cool listen. Classic stuff.

Some serious baby makin’ hits on this…and I dig it.

Most excellent end to end. Good flow and a lot of variety. Guitarists in this genre can just wale man. It’s impressive. 3.75
