Talking heads are classic but this album wouldn't be my choice, I think the preceding and two following albums are far better. I would probably rank this as my 5th favorite TH album but that is still far better than most albums. Never going to complain about listening to Talking Heads as they are one of my favorite bands.
Not sure why I never got this band. Everyone seems to like them, including folks who's music opinions I really value, but they just don't seem to be for me. I never noticed how he looks like Bat Boy on the cover. I'm finding a bit of a slog to get through but it's a solid "okay". If I could give it 2 1/2 stars I would, I just find it really boring.
Such a great album. A real refreshing voice that is both modern and a throwback. Every track is a banger and at 34 minutes it doesn't waste a second. A true classic.
This is my first time listening to a Kanye album. I feel a bit mixed, the production if amazing but his flow has always bothered me. I'd say it was far better than I thought it would be but not for me. Ignoring the complete mental breakdown from him lately, I definitely can understand why this album is held in high regard. I think the saving grace for this album is there is much less Kanye on it than I expected.
I mean great voice but the songs are a bit bland. I think it's good but I'm not listening to a 3+ hour album. Great background music for a swanky cocktail party but not my favorite Ella.
Great album, probably my second favorite of his. It starts off real strong but lags a bit in the middle. It feels like this was the bridge between disco and modern pop music. A much more pared down MJ without all the pomp and circumstance of his later albums.
I do not like this album. The first part is decent but I really just hate Stephin Merrit's voice. It's grating and pretentious to me. Halfway through the second album I threw in the towel. I know a lot of folks love this album but I hate it. I feel like they had a decent album here but some editing would have made this an okay album.
I can't believe I've never heard any of these songs before, but it is very fun album and I really liked it. Never been the hugest Queen fan but always appreciated them. This album is an enjoyable romp filled with epic campy songs.
What a fun album, I've heard of Thundercat but never really gave him a listen. Lots of great guests and some really whimsical stuff. I think it might be a little too smooth jazz for my taste but it's definitely a great album. The Kenny Loggins/Michael McDonald collab really fits into this album well.
Not sure what this is. It's like "We have C&C Music Factory at home" - but this is what you have at home. It's not bad but it's not good. I guess this was what Britain had for R&B in the nineties, sorry 'bout that. I got halfway through this album before finally giving up.
Great album, probably his second best. I feel like the last song was ridiculously long but there are some bangers on this album.
I can't think of another album that has a better starting 8 songs. When this album came out it was a breath of fresh air. It definitely still holds up as their best album. No wonder kids of today treat this band like my generation did the Beatles, they are so damn good. I'm not the hugest fan of grunge but this album rises above the other albums by their contemporaries. Damn that last song "Endless, Nameless" was heavy as hell and might be my favorite Nirvana song. This is probably the closest to a perfect album I've heard in a long while.
I mean it was ok, I actually didn't notice when it switched over to another artist. Pretty boring stuff but good for what it was I guess.
Love X but they really wrote just a handful of songs that are really good and the rest feel a bit filler. I think Los Angeles is a better album but this one is not bad. There are really only two great songs on the album and the rest are ok.
This is a very pleasant album. I've never heard of this person or heard their music before but it was an enjoyable listen. It's a bit slow for my taste but glad to have heard it. I could see myself listening to this when I want something super chill.
I love Buzzcocks and I love post-punk so really surprised I've never heard this band before. A pretty great album but "The Great Beautician In The Sky" is pretty bad, almost Sex Pistols "Who Killed Bambi?" bad. This album was really ahead of it's time, post-punk before punk had even got off the ground.
Some great old timey rock and roll. I grew up with my parents listening to this music. Fun but probably not something I would ever put on. Good job creating a whole new genre of music. I will admit after a while all the songs kind of start to sound the same.
Not the biggest jazz fan but Miles Davis just hits. Not even close to my favorite album but still so good. I feel like his music just puts me in a trance.
Not really an Eric Clapton fan but this is a pretty groovy album. I like it but probably wouldn't listen to it otherwise. I have a new appreciation for Clapton after this. Catchy chill tunes.
Not a fan of grunge but this album was pretty decent. I had always heard of Mudhoney but never got into them. I'm still not really into them but I can appreciate their place in history. I definitely liked this more that I thought I would, but still not a fan of grunge.
I love Steely Dan, not really sure why. They are cheesey but smooth as hell. This is nowhere near their best album but still a great slice of Steely. I had never heard this album but glad to have finally experienced it.
I don't know what this is or why it's on here. It says he was at the forefront of blending jazz and world music but I only hear smooth jazz. It's not offensive just a bit boring, belongs in an elevator.
Never really liked Van Morrison, always seemed like old people music. I can't understand what he is singing, I swear in every song he sings "sweet jellyroll" but I don't think those are any of the actual lyrics. He has a very mush-mouth way of singing and it makes all of his songs sound the same to me. I feel like I've heard every song on this album even though I've never intentionally listened to his music, maybe it's just because they all sound the same. I can appreciate that people like him but I find his music extremely annoying. I somehow listened to this whole album and I think I hate him more than when I started, so I guess it moved me. I just kept going because I couldn't believe how bad it was and how it only got worse as it went.
This album came out in 1990 which was probably the peak year for early metal. So many amazing metal albums came out this year and this album was definitely one of them. This is probably Megadeth's best album. they are super tight compared to previous albums. Megadeth is probably my least favorite of the big four thrash bands but every song on this album is a banger! Easily the best album I've been served so far.
This album is so good, it was in heavy rotation for me for quite a while. Glad to have it brought to my attention again. This is a post-punk classic and surprised it isn't held in higher regard. Upon listening to this album again it is a bit repetitive, not as good as I remember it but still really enjoyable.
Not sure I've actually heard this album before but I have heard many of the songs. I didn't realize "I want your sex" had two parts (maybe 3 parts if you count the last song) and was a 9 minute song. George Michael is a pop legend and I'm glad to finally listen to this album. Some of his songs just really hit me right in the heart and bring me back to being a kid like few artists can. I feel like the album starts off strong with all the hits then slows a bit but overall a pretty good album.
I never really got into The Who but I did like the Tommy and Quadrophenia movies. I will admit starting with Baba O'Riley was a big turn off, I really don't like that song for some reason. I feel like The Who is a band I wanted to get into but never really could, that hasn't really changed. I mean it's okay but just nothing that I'm super excited about. Also, "Won't Get Fooled Again" is far too long at 8 minutes, yikes. I guess it just feels like generic arena rock to me which I'm sure at the time was exciting but doesn't really move me.
Damn, I really hate southern rock.
One of the all-time classic progressive albums. Just an expansive and beautiful album.
Another one of those artists I've never heard of, it feels a bit dream poppy. Not my favorite style of music but I don't mind it at all. It's super chill if you are into that I'd say it's about middle of the road for me: 2.5.
This is the type of hip hop that I find really boring. Just a lot of bragging and machismo with no real substance. This is definitely my first time listening to a Jay-Z album and I don't think I ever need to listen to another album of his. It's pretty basic stuff, I can see he is talented but it's not for me. That was a very long hour and three minutes.
I've always appreciated Bowie but never got into him, guess there's no time like the present. I like this album but not something that I'm super into. I guess I can appreciate David Bowie as an icon without actually loving his music; some of my favorite artists were heavily influenced by him. I would never turn off a Bowie song but not sure I would ever put one on. Great for what it is and I will have to try another album to see if it "sticks"
This album is so damn good. Black Sabbath created my favorite genre: metal. Most of the bands I listen to today such as Bongripper, Sleep, YOB and Windhand were directly influenced by this band. Their first three albums are just about flawless. Paranoid is probably their peak as a band, no notes.
Another one of these bands I've never heard of. This band is really fun and energetic. I'm glad to get introduced to them! Not my normal type of music but I could see myself listening to them again.
I mean this really is just an incredible album from start to finish. I prefer earlier Floyd (pre-Dark Side) but it's hard to deny the quality of this record.
I'm a fan of Steve Earle, not familiar with this album but it feels a bit more country than the stuff I am familiar with. Really digging the twang and of course some solid song writing. I pretty great first album but definitely not as good as some of his later stuff. I really need to dig deeper into his library because I enjoyed this album and forgot how much I like him.
I feel like this album is held up as the best by the Beach Boys but it's pretty repetetive and boring to me. Maybe their vocals just sound the same on every song which kinda makes every song sound the identical to me. It's a fine album just not for me.
Great soul, not sure I had ever heard Al Green before the Pulp Fiction soundtrack but this is some good stuff! I have never listened to one of his albums before but this album is really good, glad to finally get to hear more of his music and will definitely meed to dig deeper into his catalogue.
Again, another band I've only listened to around the edges. I know the influence the Stooges had on punk music but actually listening to a full album I can really see their influence. This is some great music and well ahead of it's time. There is a real sleaziness to this album and it's so heavy that it was probably mind-blowing when it came out. I immediatley went and listened to their 1969 debut album after this so I would call this a good find for me.
A 30 min jam on Who Do You Love, a song I don't particularly care for that they somehow pull off. I'm a fan of Quicksilver Messenger Service but haven't actually heard this album and it's a great jammy masterpiece, classic San Francisco acid rock. It does drag a little near the end but overall a pretty great album, would give a 4.5 if I could.
Damn, I love Jane's Addiction, one of my favorite bands, I have seen Perry Farrel's other band Porno For Pyros at least a dozen times and they never disappointed live. While Jane's have made headlines recently because of the feud between the singer and guitarist, this album superceeds any of that bullshit. Probably my 3rd favorite album of theirs but it still would probably make my top 100.
Not a huge fan of Radiohead when this album came out, they are just a bit too electronic and mellow for my taste. Thom Yorke's voice also used to annoy me. I don't mind their first two albums but their later stuff has always just been bad too me. I think now that I'm two decades removed from Radiohead and not being forced to listen to them all the time, I can appreciate it a bit more. I still would never choose to put it on but I can see the artistry in the album. I think they deserve all the accolades but that doesn't mean I like them. After about halfway through this album it became almost unbearable for me.
I mean it's jazz. I guess it's considered good. Great job jazz man. As I got further into the album there were a few fun jams that I enjoyed. Not really for me but it's probably good for what it is - some energetic parts push it just slightly above middle of the road. I don't totally hate it but it doesn't really do it for me either.
Another band I've never heard of, it really feels like a throwback to 80's goth or maybe even Velvet Underground. It's not bad but doesn't seem anything very special, not really sure how it made the list. Looking them up apparently they were progenitors of the brit-pop movement and I can totally see that. The album started pretty slow and emo but definitely picks up a bit with "Don't Trust The Stars". I enjoyed the more upbeat tracks on this album, not my favorite but glad to listen to it.
RIP my Spotify algorithm. Only heard a few Justin Timberlake's songs so interested to listen to a whole album, he obviously has a great voice. A bit cheesy pop for my taste. It's okay I guess, I'll give it middle of the road 2.5 starts.
I've always meant to listen to this album but never got around to it. It's pretty decent if not rough around the edges. Reminds me a lot of early Siousxie and the Banshees. Not sure I would really consider it punk, maybe more post-punk. Pretty decent album but didn't blow me away.
I mean this is a incredible album. This and Surfer Rosa are probably the best that the Pixies put out. I haven't listened to this album in quite a while and I'm so glad this project got me listening to it again. This is an alt-rock classic and so many great albums in the 90's were influenced by this band. This album is a bit heavier than I remember which is great. There are many more styles of music in this album which I totally forgot about. I always think that "Here Comes Your Man" is an Elvis Costello song.
I remember reeally liking this album when it came out. While there are some good songs there are other songs that are just plain terrible. Not sure what was going on at the time but this is probably the most unbalanced album I've ever heard. I would say out of the 17 songs there probably about 3 good songs. Too slow and a mismatch of genres that are just lazily done, very few standouts.
I love Iron Maiden and this is probably their best album. So an easy 5 stars from me. Some of the songs might not have aged as well (22 Acacia Ave) but it's still an almost perfect album by the band.
I've always hated Depeche Mode, hanging out with a bunch of goth kids in high school I've heard plenty of them. They are just a bit too much of a bummer for me. Listening to them with some time having passed, they aren't too bad but still not my cup of tea. I think I just really don't like electronic music paired with a low energy singing, it just doesn't do it for me, a bit of a slog to get through. I'll give it a middle of the road 2.5 review because I can understand the influence it had on music at the time.
I love the Beatles but never really enjoyed any of their solo stuff. This album is okay, there are a few decent songs but nothing that I find super exciting. It's decent but a bit boring. I only got about halfway through the whole album.
Maggot Brain is probably in my top ten albums. The lead song is possibly my favorite instrumental track. Such a great album!
Oh damn, Genesis - that's the crappy Phil Collins band from the 90's. Apparently they had a whole life as a prog-rock band and this is some great prog-rock. I would have never guessed this was Genesis. Great find and this is the reason I keep coming back to this website every day. I will definitely be diggin into their back catalog.
Another one of those bands I've never heard of, but from the first track this band seems really promising. It's hit or miss but overall a fun album that I'm glad to have experienced.
Again, an artist whose albums I have never listened to. I think it's a pretty decent album, it doesn't totally grab me but I do like it. I think I only recognized one song on this album.
I don't mind the Rolling Stones, I think Beggars Banquet is the only album of theirs that I love. This album is not an album that I love, it's fine but definitly not for me. I think they are more a an occasional hit band than a good album band. This album is just way too bluesy which isn't for me. I'd give it a middle of the road 2.5 score.
Wow, two Rolling Stones' albums in a row. Ooof, this album is just meh. I really don't like the blues and this feels mostly blues. I will reiterate my point about Exile On Main Street, the Stones put out like 1 or 2 good songs on an album then wrap it in a bunch of mediocre songs. Like Let It Bleed and You Can't Always Get What You Want are good songs but the rest is generic boring blues, they just aren't an album band for me. I'm tempted to give this a lower score because I got two Stones albums back to back but I will go with the middle of the road 2.5 but rounded down because it came back to back with another of their albums.
I've always kinda dug Aimee Mann but this is the first album I've listened to of hers. I like it but it's not something I would porbably put on. She is clearly talented but it just doesn't seem to be music for me. Glad to have listened to the album.
I mean Back In Black is classic AC/DC. I prefer the Bon Scott albums but this is definitely Brian Johnson at his best. I think there is a lot of Bon Scott influence on this album being that he was working on it before his death. It's just good hard rock at a point that AC/DC was at their best. They had a good run up into the 90's but Back In Black and Highway To Hell were probably their peak. I don't know why but I find Brian Johnson a bit cheesier than Bon Scott, maybe it was because Scott had a bit more humor in his songs. Great album either way.
I listened to Ozomatli's first album quite a bit and loved it. I have also seen them live multiple times and they have always put on a really fun show. This is the first time hearing any album after their first album. It's pretty good, I dig it. Not as good as their first album but I would listen to it again.
Ooof, I really hate Bob Marley and reggae in general. It's like disco for stoners, it's just too repetetive and boring for my taste. I guess that's not true, I do like Marley's ska stuff but the reggae stuff is just unbearable for me. Well, I listened to is anyway and that is 44 minutes I will never get back. No shade to people who love this music but reggae hurt me in ways I will never recover. 0 out of 10 stars.
Not a big jazz fan but Miles just hits. No notes just a good album.
