It's not Jimi's best, but it marked a shift to the even more psychedelic that is seen in Electric Ladyland.
A quintessential rock debut that is not only Van Halen's best, but one of the best of the era. No skips on this one!
Sprawling, big sounding, and a pleasant surprise from a band I only thought to be known as the "You Really Got Me band"
Genre defining! Made by people who didn't quite know where their sound was or heading!
It's fun (This album is what I presume it feels like to have a big beard)
The sound of California, a sound I feel that I've outgrown as I've gotten older
Funky, loose concept doesn't help or hurt my enjoyment, great driving album! Another great discovery!
Great live performance, high energy makes it a personal favorite
Lush sounding, an album that can be enjoyed at every mood, what a gem!
Not my favorite Metallica album, nor do I think it's their best, but this album is more than just the album with their best song
Not my thing, the more I look into the album the more it became interesting, still don't understand the influence it has to be included in this list
Great gem found this project, great to see 2010s inclusion
Influential, wild, and worth digesting!
Seriously there's a 15 minute song in here that might seem like it goes on forever but it's worth it!
First example of I see why it's seen as great, but folk rock isn't my much of my thing to rate as highly as others
Easy to hear why this album was included, influential sound for so many acts to follow them
Fast, fun, great find from this journey!
I wish I could give a 2.5 star rating, it's just ok, little overrated to my ear but there is flashes of brilliance
This is the album with One on it, immediate 2 stars alone, the rest is hit or miss
Hard to rate, folk isn't my thing
Yet another gem, a sound is from the 70s but before it's time
Mick Jagger sings the blues, if the Stones went this direction after this then they might be worth exploring further
Measuring stick album similar to Black Sabbath, not quite to the upper echelon for me to give a 5
Hard to rate, this album would lend well to multiple listens, so my baseline has to be a 3 given my limited experience
Gem of an album, the author of the original book had to want readers to know about this album to avoid it from being overlooked
Not my thing but I'm glad to have given it a try, this album is something I would've never discovered on my own without this project
She's more than the woman who sings Son of a Preacher Man, would listen to again
I always thought that Janis Joplin sounded like a dude, seriously, this is just alright, docked the rating for the fake live elements that didn't really add anything to my experience
Just ok, never was a fan and this go around isn't no different, fun rock to drive to and that's about it to my ears
Another album I would've never given a shot if it wasn't for this project, by the halfway point of the opener I had a general idea of where this album would go but I wasn't disappointed, finally glad to give the notable Nick Cave a chance
Forgotten according to the streets, cool piece of history from the psych rock era
Yet another album I would've never discovered, this whole genre I probably would've never found
This was their peak, no ifs ands or buts about it
An album that gets more interesting the more details you learn about it, not my favorite thing Eno has had his hand in but of his solo works it's a great look into his style
"The first punk album"
It's wacky, wildly ahead of its time soundwise, not one I would go back to regularly though
If this is the first album of Stevie's classic period then he was on a hell of a run, excited when other entries following this come up
Top tier concept album that suffers from some individual tracks not being able to stand on their own, middling album without the concept and large scale songs that are on both sides
Vampire Weekend owns a little bit to this album, the resemblance to their sound is uncanny at times, ok album that I would've never found without 1001
Super influential sound, perfect music to disassociate to
Suffers from same sound syndrome, easily their best album, feeling like a greatest hits album at times
Much like Funeral this album has its highs, but is The Suburbs the better of the inclusions? Albums like them both need time to marinate, and the format of this project force you to revisit them as you make your journey
Every genre has a defining classic and this is the one for bossa nova, a genre I would've never considered without 1001
Gem, one of the most vulnerable sounds I've ever heard, an album lost to time but shouldn't be
Manchester representation, this sound is as if Oasis was able to survive the new millennium, great band I plan on continuing with through their discography
Shoegaze legend, enjoyment is based solely on your enjoyment of the genre, not my thing compared to others from this era but it's just fine
Essential rock album with personal favorites, I'm looking at you "Someday"
The interludes slow down the album for me, still high quality rhymes throughout
Album was inescapable for months when it was released, most of my enjoyment now is the nostalgia for that period
Not even their best, hard to give any higher rating
One of the most diverse sounding albums I've encountered so far in 1001, lowkey gem that I may keep in rotation
Yet another album from this week that might be in my rotation
Half of this album feels disjointed as it was extra material from another album, even then this was a great discovery
Interesting look at another period from the band who made "Come on Eileen"
One of the most influential albums for a reason, unbelievable that a teenager composed these tracks
Fun, catchy as hell, cool to have such an influential album come up that might stay in my rotation
Fun concept album that lacks the umph to give it anything more than a middle of the road rating
I don't understand this album, it feels derivative compared to others I've heard as earlier as this week, might need to come back to this one!
Immensely influential to a lot of the stuff I love already, I plan on adding more from their discography after giving this a thorough listen
Super nostalgic for the opening track, it almost transports me to when I like 8, rest of the album isn't as great but it's fun enough to get a middling rating within the context of rating the entire thing
One of my favorites I found before 1001, with my limited time with Bowie's discography this is my favorite
Besides the music, easily the best album cover so far I've found through 1001, the music is funky too
Kind of a hard listen at times, but "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" alone holds it up to a 2 on my personal scale
Funny this came after Depeche Mode's Violator, this seems more dated and neutered by comparison while still being a fun 80s album
Yet another classic I heard already, one of Kanye's most underrated projects more than a decade after its first release, beyond all the memes and sound clips this album will stand the test of time for its innovation
Great musicianship but the pretentiousness persists, I can understand the love for this and Pink Floyd
Didn't enjoy this one, crazy to say about the Ramones but their sound isn't my thing
More experimental than Peter Gabriel 1 from earlier, not quite to my level past a 3 but it was enjoyable for the day
Kinda tough to get through at times, very much an album of the 00s but Pharell has his moments to shine
Pleasant surprise after the so-so week so far (got this on a Thursday), one of the most unique entries so far, I might prefer this to the other psychedelic entries I've had so far
Yet another shoegaze/dream pop essential that I can't get into
Yet another rough one to get through at times, hopefully my luck can change because it's been a while since I've found an entry I've clicked with
Brit Pop bleh to me, no memorable tracks for me
One of the most bloated albums I encountered so far with 1001, some highs that warrant a personal 3 star rating
"Hideous. That's the Beach Boys. If you can't give it 0 stars then it should get a 1."
- My Dad on a road trip home
2nd appearance of Kate Bush technically after learning that she appeared on Peter Gabriel's "Melt", this album is more than just the album with that song from "Stranger Things"
One of the most lowkey albums I've had so far with 1001, could be the first country album I've had as it tows the line between folk and country consistently
If this album, not even Blur's best Britpop sounding album, is on this list then I'm certain that this won't be the last time I hear them in 1001
