Idlewild
Everything But The GirlBasic light pop music, I get a retro country feel on some of the tracks. Enjoyed the singing. Feels like music you would hear in a hotel lobby or department store.

The juxtaposition of dark lyrics against upbeat music on some of the songs such as El Paso is masterful.
This is a great album that is a joy to put on. I wish I could give it a 4.5 as my only complaint is the sequencing, it starts a bit off slow for me. Once it gets going though around track for it is full of hits and should be part of the regular rotation.
Vocals are nice, and the instrument arrangements are interesting and bring in a variety of instruments. I can understand why the album is rated high critically. That said the album didn't really pull me in and I found it a bit sleepy at times. Maybe I need to give it a few more listens to better appreciate it.
Hit or miss songs, and not a big fan of the singing. There is some nice guitar work on a couple of the songs. Mood and tempo seem to change a bit around 2/3rds of the way through. Overall underwhelmed.
Nice vocals and nice singing, I can appreciate the artist’s talent. Just a bit slow for me.

Not my favorite Bowie album, quite a few instrumental only songs. Typical unusual and experimental sounds from Bowie, but definitely less "punchy" than some of his other work and overall less exciting for me.
Real range on this album of funk and slower songs. Some of it a bit slow for me, but a good record nonetheless.
Talking Heads always bring such unique and different sound, it’s a cool change of pace. Great mix of electronic elements and mixing effects with traditonal pop punk sound. The singing on this and similar groups tends to be my least favorite part. Not something I’m going to listen to regularly, but probably one to add to the collection because it is so different.
Great album, fund to listen to.
Couldn't make it through the first song (which is very long, and I don't mind long songs when they are good). Has the vocal style I don't particularly care for, and the guitars I found to be grating. Just a bunch of noise, which I get is probably the point, but it's not for me.
Very classic old time country/folk, very much sounds true to the era it was recorded in. Not really a genre or a sound that speaks to me but I appreciate the sounds, and here influences in a lot of what was to come in future music.
Good album from Iggy, distinctive but not too far out. Very accessible. The Passenger is a great start to the album.
Started off a little slow but gets going on track 3 Living for the City. I felt Songs in the Key of Life started slow and picked up a couple songs in as well. Higher Ground is an all timer from Stevie’s catalog.
Great classic album with lots of well known hits. Always loved the vocal harmonizations, and one of the tightest rhythm sections in music. Would go 4.5 if I could, some of the songs just aren’t for me, but all easy to listen to.
This is not the Bee Gees I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. I have learned there is "sixties" Bee Gees and then there is disco Bee Gees, and probably some variations in between. Interesting mix of songs that span a range of genres from symphonic, to pop, to country, really all over the map.
Really fun, easy to listen to album. I think if you don't know much about Dylan except a handful of the classics (like me) this is probably a great place to start. Dylan's storytelling and songwriting abilities are on display here. Tangled up in Blue is a great start to the album, Idiot Wind and Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts are also favorite tracks. It's probably a 4.5 rating for me but since I have to pick and this ones got me in a good mood we can go 5.
Tremendous guitar album obviously, the Latin rock Santana brings is upbeat and brings in additional instrumentation you won't find on other albums, or presented in a different way than you might have heard before. I particularly like how the organ is used in songs like Hope You're Feeling Better and Oye Como Va. The limited vocals on the album make it great to have on behind the scenes as well.
The Cure has always been OK to me, as someone who is not a big fan of the post punk sound this one is much easier to listen to than some of the other bands/albums of the day. Mellow, but a little too low key for my tastes.
Always enjoyed this one since I found it, a lot of variety from song to song but that's part of what makes it fun to listen to.
Didn’t think I would care for it, but was pleasantly surprised. Interesting arrangements behind some of the songs, mix of instruments including guitar and keyboard.
Catchy, really good guitar album.
A lot of variety on the album, some good some not as much. “Funk rock” element to the songs works well in some places, gets a little tiresome in others. Lyrics very hit or miss as well. Overall more good than bad I think. Breaking the Girl is a great song.
Couldn’t really get into it, not sure why but I struggle with the genre, too much “noise” and not a huge fan of the vocal styling on some of the songs. Hit or miss.
Love this album, just kind of exciting to hear existing music I already like presented in a new way. Orchestra sounds great, the songs are powerful, and one of the few live albums that deserves a place with the studio albums. Neat to listen to for something different.
Good instrumentation, fun concept album.
Great storytelling. Music is pretty good, a couple of hit or miss spots. Harmonica is good in some spots and a bit of a nuisance in others. Overall great to listen to.
Just another 80s pop album. Lyrics are unimaginative.
Sounds like I accidentally hit play on the Nighmare Before Christmas soundtrack. Having said that there are some redeeming songs. Not a fan of the whispy distant vocals on some of the tracks.
Silky smooth singing, classic soul.
The juxtaposition of dark lyrics against upbeat music on some of the songs such as El Paso is masterful.
Album opens very strong, kind of loses steam as it goes on. Solid grunge/alt rock album.
It's OK, I liked it a little more than I thought I would. I actually get some Talking Heads type of feel from some of the songs.
Tough one to rate. Some things I really like - driving rhythms, mix of instruments including keyboards and orchestral parts. Songwriting is very good, some songs kind of tough to get through though. Lou's vocals are OK, not my favorite but they work well for the mood of the songs. The stuff that is really good, is really good.
I appreciate the what the band is doing here, the innovation, and it’s likely an expertly mixed and produced album. The music itself just isn’t for me, although there are some bright spots and the Under the Boardwalk is a cool cover.
Great album, so easy to listen to.
I think this is a great album, Muse is one of my favorite 2000's era bands. Not every track is great, but the album is driving start to finish, interesting mixes, and I do like the vocals.
It’s basic new wave punk. Middle of the road for me.
Did not know what to expect here, I’ll say I was pleasantly surprised by the album in general. Music is good, representative of the time and style. Lyrics are comically bad, hard to listen to on a few tracks. This is one that makes me wish I could rank in 1/2 star increments to go down to 2.5
This is a good album, I just never got into Bruce. Maybe because it was overplayed so much when I was a kid, or it felt so much like music for another generation (even though I listen to a ton of stuff from the same era) I don't know how much I would go back to this album. Can't deny the songwriting and the great band though.
I recognize this is emblematic of the genre, I just don’t care for the genre. Noise, shock, and bad lyrics. Cool when I was 15, not interesting 25 years later.
Not much blues on here. Some good guitar stuff here and there and some songs I did like, but a lot of noise rock. The screaming…
Incredibly fun, can’t deny Eddie’s guitar, just easy to listen to hard rock. It’s ok to sit back and enjoy stuff like this, it doesn’t all have to be art rock.
As someone who did not grow up listening to the Beatles this is my first time listening to an album of theirs end to end. I am genuinely impressed with the variety of style and genre this album seems to cross. The psychedelic rock on tracks like She’s So Heavy is great and it’s easy to see how other bands evolved from this sound. That said I didn’t love everything, still feel Come Together is one of the most wildly overrated tracks of all time. Overall a great listen.
This had some appeal to middle school me. That’s about as far as it goes.
Decent punk music
There is some great stuff here and some things that just kind of meandered along. Nice album with something for a variety of tastes.
