10/10 a surprisingly catchy, bluesy tribute to horror-Americana
loved just about every second of this <3
8/10 actually pretty awesome for an electro-pop album
a lot more avant-garde than I was expecting; I really liked this a lot!
4/10
definitely not a bad album, but REALLY not for me
but if you love metal music, you’ll definitely get a kick out of this
7/10 pretty good! I liked it :)
I wish I loved it, (I don’t,) but it’s still fairly enjoyable
6/10 another album that I can appreciate, but REALLY isn’t for me - but if you love this, good for you!
finally, some “Garbage” I actually like! sorry but all the heavy metal user album just really aren’t my thing, this band is amazing tho!
10/10 one of my alltime favorite prog rock albums, I could listen to this every day and likely never get tired of it :)
oh hell yeah! Sparks is one of my favorite post-punk/new wave bands, and while this isn’t my favorite album, it’s still fucking phenomenal :) - 10/10
I was honestly surprised this wasn’t on 1001
I mean, if MBDTF could be on here, then this sure needs to be! and this is a million times better! one of my alltime favorite rap albums :)
look, no offense to whoever put this album on here, but I feel like John Mayer is just Marvin Gaye for white people; like what Elvis Presley is to Chuck Barry, just capitalizing on a good sound for an audience who doesn’t want the real deal
I think a lot of my resentment for this album is based on the fact that my mom is a diehard Mayer fan and I grew up listening to all of these songs to a nauseating degree
look, I don’t hate it, I’d even say it’s fairly well made, but there is an inherent resentment that might not be all that deserved, but I’m sticking to it - 5/10
I would like to sincerely thank whoever submitted this album
it’s so cool hearing a prog rock album that’s so good and so underrated you spend the entire time thinking “how the hell have I never heard of this?!?”
it’s seriously so, so amazing - 10/10
10/10
absolutely lovely! always down for some african music!
9/10 some pretty fantastic stuff here; tho I slightly prefer Misplaced Childhood just because it’s a little more explicitly proggy, tho this is still a fantastic album without a doubt
10/10, some really top tier 90s indie here - Built to Spill truly is a treasure
8/10, I really like this! some really neat songs here :)
8/10 super fun punk music, kinda dumb but in a very enjoyable way
8/10 pretty good, but not really anything that stood out to me as being truly great or special, tho I understand this album is very special to a lot of people
sorry but this whole album sounded so lousily formulaic - like, if the vocal quality sounded a little more compressed I could totally believe every song was AI generated - 4/10
actually surprised with how much I like this; I tend to dislike most 90s hard rock, but this is such a distinct combination of System of a Down (who I’m honestly not a big fan of) and Mr Bungle— who I fucking LOVE and this definitely leans much closer to — which makes for a slightly mixed bag of an album that I majoritively enjoyed quite a bit :)
9/10
is KG&TLW the great band to ever exist?!
I’m easy to please, and prog rock is one of the quickest ways to my heart - 10/10
10/10
first time listening to Nujabes, and it’s so cool hearing an artist who pioneered the lofi-hip hop genre
really great stuff :D
10/10 holy shit! can’t believe I’ve never heard of this before! just some very top-top-top tier art rock, so like my favorite thing ever
10/10, actually so fucking good! love me some experimental hip hop
10/10 loooove psychedelic rock and this was just wonderful :D
avant metal is an interesting genre
I would say I enjoyed this, but didn’t LOVE it
not really a fan of metal but I love experimental music, so kinda a mixed bag but I mostly liked it - 7/10
9/10
whatever specific, niche genre this is, it sounds absolutely fantastic; extremely creative and versatile
definitely not a bad album, had a handful of songs I particularly enjoyed, but a lot of it just feels kinda filler idk, I spent most of the album kinda waiting for it to end - 6/10
10/10 holy hell this is so underrated
absolutely beautiful in a way you just don’t really see in any other music
so exciting and invigorating, honestly awe inspiring
such a special pick that I’m very happy to have heard :)
with an album cover like that I was expecting this to be some kinda trashy country with some Kid Rock-like rap metal type shit
turns out this is one of the greatest psychedelic/shoegaze rock albums I’ve ever heard in my life
what a contrast with a cover that bad, and an album that good! - 10/10
9/10
the killers if they were actually good
reminds me a lot of Bruce Springsteen, some refreshingly unique alternative that I can really appreciate
7/10 actually surprisingly cool!?
you’ve got classic screamo vocals paired with like bright optimistic, almost my bloody valentine-esque instrumentals
neat combo! I really dug it :)
9/10 super catchy! really dig this specific wave of alt rock :)
I’m not much of a metal fan, but I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t some of the most fun I’ve had listening to a metal album; J-Metal just hits different swear to god - 9/10
some of the quirkiest prog I’ve heard in a WHILE, and that’s fucking saying something considering how much prog I’ve heard (and loved)
absolutely adored this, even tho it has the energy of an annoying theater kid, it’s still pretty damn good - 10/10
10/10 one of my favorite movie soundtracks
I’m so happy someone added it to the user list :)
8/10 actually pretty good! very unique for a pop album, it’s a bit of a shame the background and aftermath of everything surrounding this, I hope Jai Paul is well now :)
10/10 oh cool! I was just thinking of the Cardiacs! I’ve loved them ever since the original list got me into ALMaaHatWWW
this album is just as incredible, they’re such a talented band :)
6/10 half these songs are genuinely pretty good, and the other half are some of the most bland, generic, forgettable pop music I’ve heard in a long time
the entire album sounds like it was made for divorced white moms who drink snoop dogg’s sparkling wine
made the mistake of listening to Full Moon Fever before this, which was such a dry, boring album, like Paul Simon’s later career but less fun
this album is drastically different
actually extremely creative and likely his best work - 9/10
pretty good! the comparisons to brockhampton are obvious, I enjoyed it quite a bit, tho I don’t know if I’d revisit it any time soon - 8/10
super fun, love whatever kinda vibe this has - 9/10
I’m a huge fan of post rock, so of course this was everything I could want in an album - 10/10
actually pretty good
although every track has been overplayed to death for me since my mom is a diehard fan
I also have no idea why he sings with such a strong southern accent when he’s lived in new jersey his whole life, but who am I to judge lol - 8/10
10/10, I don’t know if I like this more than TGTAKM, but it’s still an absolutely incredible album either way
10/10 I wish that I got this album last month (October) but it’s amazing year round haha
I love just about every era of Elfman, but as a diehard post-punk fan, Oingo Boingo might be my particular favorite
10/10 it’s nearly impossible for me to pick a favorite jazz musician, but jesus christ Ornette fucking Coleman comes pretty goddamn close to #1
HELL YEAH! never thought I’d see a Michael Hurley album on this site! this is so fucking cool!
not my favorite album of his if I’m being honest, that would probably go to Armchair Boogie, with Ling Journey being a close second
but I still can’t put into words how happy this and literally every other song of his makes me - one of the greatest musicians of his generation who passed away not too long ago
this album, like all others, are too good to give a rating to, tho I guess the full five stars will have to suffice - thank you Michael Hurley, for everything you’ve made <3
9/10 a very diverse album that warms you up with some calming ambience before sending you through a lovely variety of other sounds
new favorite album just dropped?! (5 years before my dad was born)
I’ve always been a diehard fan of freak folk, and this truly does EVERYTHING perfectly; a flawless album that sounds WAY too modern for its time
I listened to this on loop about three times in a row lol, way too fuckin good to rate
lmao, I’m sorry but every song sounds the same and it’s giving “back to school shopping commercial”
I get why one of those songs became such a hit, but it all sounds so dry, lifeless, and generic
no hate for whoever put this album on, respect for finishing the original 1001, and if you think everyone needs to hear this then I can value your opinion even if I don’t really value the album - 4/10
honestly? kinda deuchey
I’m all for prog rock, but prog-metal? sorry but when done right I can love it, I just really, really don’t care for this like at all - 4/10
I am genuinely so happy I’m getting so many avant-folk albums; these users have some great tastes!
I’m thinking of submitting a psych-folk album here myself (assuming nobody else has submitted it yet) :D
anyway, this is an easy 10/10
lmao, I’m sorry but this album was so weak
the main list already has Janelle Monae’s fembot album that’s way better
I’ll even take Britney Spear’s steam punk era over this
as a Robin myself, she’s pretty far from my favorite musician I share a name with, that would have to go to Cavetown, tho I guess I’ll take her over Thicke who’s hit song is just straight up daterape - 5/10
10/10
super cool post-hardcore! really really love this!
10/10 absolutely fantastic! but I think I prefer Sidewinder, both are amazing tho!
7/10
pretty enjoyable, but not totally my thing
I’m all for art rock, but just can’t really get into metal
so a bit of a mixed bag, but I’d say I liked it :)
kinda sounds like the kirkland brand Kid A, but I still fucking love this - 10/10
8/10
love me some good ska, and Just a Girl is an absolute classic!
super fun and absolutely worth being on this website :)
7/10, kinda fun but nothing special
I could take it or leave it, but I could also totally understand why someone would love this
I’m sorry but this wasn’t really for me; while I absolutely adore art rock and could appreciate the artistry that went into this, I truly loathe metal music and this had little of substance I actually liked
I can really really respect the inherent talent it takes to write and perform music like this but it’s really not for me - 5/10
obligatory 10/10 for jazz, and I love their unique spin on it, super fun!
I heard Sundial a little while ago when it first came out and loved it, so it’s nice catching up with her older stuff (also heard Room 25) she is such a talented artist! I’m very glad her music is on the user albums list :) - 10/10
incredible, some of Springsteen’s best work with the energy of a crowd behind him; the stuff of legend - 10/10
what did I expect, a metal band with a name as generic as “Death” makes equally unremarkable music to match - 4/10
actually super fun! I really liked this! far from a perfect album, but I always love dynamic indie rock, and it was really cool how sample-heavy this was! 9/10
dude holy shit! I really need to listen to more of Montreal! I’ve only heard I Feel Safe With You, Trash before this— which I absolutely adored — and now with this album I’m a diehard fan :D
10/10
aw man, feels great revisiting this classic; I’m glad someone else added this here because I was seriously considering submitting this myself :)
some top, TOP tier jazz; that is, when it’s not leaning into a wide variety of other equally incredible genres - wayyyy too good to rate
8/10
pretty good! not really my thing but I’m also not trying to put it down in any way
8/10 pretty good! I’m not a huge fan of this style of country, but it is undoubtedly well made
and of course, Dolly Parton is one of my favorite people ever, one of the most incredible people to ever live, I just don’t love her music as much as I love her as a person
this was… nice…
kind of really forgettable, but I guess I enjoyed it
idk, felt too filler, like I kinda forgot what I heard as soon as it was over
this obviously has its audience, but it’s just not really my thing - 7/10
I… I’m sorry, it’s kind of impossible for me to appreciate this
it’s like a combination of like 5 bands I loathe; I really can’t put into words how much I hate Creed, Weezer, Nickelback, or any other fuckass band this sounds like
really really really annoying in just about every way - 3/10
8/10 not really my thing, but it’s definitely refreshing for a hard rock album
far more unique and experimental than most of their contemporaries
10/10 I absolutely think this album is worth being on the 1001 albums list
this album (but more importantly the special itself) perfectly captures so much of the exhausting monotony and the world-ending anxiety that psychologically infected everyone’s mind to an even more contagious degree than the virus itself
a beautiful piece of pandemic-art that is (thankfully) outdated in a post-covid world, but still serves as a beautiful reminder of what once was
