Music From The Penguin Cafe
Penguin Cafe OrchestraI honestly... Just what can I say? It was awful, I didn't vibe at all to this... The worst album I've heard so far. It is now my benchmark for 1's.

Really smooth album to listen to, amazing vocals, happily have it on as background music whenever. Solid 4/5
10/10 Would vibe again.
Nostalgia bias heavy with this album for me, but definitely feel like it front loads it's gems and falls short a little after that.
Birmingham bias definitely here, and come on Eileen just about scrapes this up to a 3 for me.
Love this album, change of the guard was an absolute highlight for me! Not a 5/5 but a solid 4/5
Sad... Sad... Oh Cecilia! Meh... Sad.. Sad... This is an album to listen to whilst staring into nothingness, but I'll be honest, there isn't a single track on this album which doesn't have a cover that is 100% better than the version on this album.
Still amazes me that "your love is king" has more plays than "Smooth Operator" on this album on spotify. Rest of the album was okay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen again. 3.5/5 but rating it a 3 as I definitely don't think it's 4 material.
A punk icon. I could listen to the ramones for hours, very little wrong with this album for me. The definition of a 4/5 for me, would listen to again happily, but not every track is an absolute hit.
Absolutely not what I was expecting. Went in thinking it would be pop-punk, instead it was like calming folk? Didn't realise the album had ended and shuffled on to something else, so was easy listening, but wouldn't go out of my way for it again.
Iggy Pop is always a win for me, would happily listen to the album again, even if not every track was a banger. Though I did listen to this album whilst pissed out my skull, so that may have contributed to it's success.
More albums need intro tracks, I love a good intro track to hit the context. Family Business was a stand out for me, generally a good album, would happily listen to it again, but don't think its a 5/5.
Been a few times in my life where I've just ended up in a room with someone just jamming hard on a guitar with no end in sight, this album brought me back to those places. Plus, can't go wrong with a bit of blues. Solid 5/5, music so chill and freeflowing I could fall asleep, but I wouldn't want to.
If a Britpop band recorded a dance album on acid, you'd get this album. Very Life Is Strange, End Of The World Party vibes. Honestly went in expecting myself to hate it, but I wasn't tempted to turn it off until Tonite, which made me want to headbutt a wall. Solid 2/5 I think.
Saw the album cover and the band name, thought "Ohhh a potential metal band?" It was not a metal band. Just fine, is how I think I'd describe this album, didn't really hit it off with me.
Meh, didn't throw me off, but never really got going enough that I was invested either.
Grunge will always have a special place in my heart, it was really the entryway for metal for me, and Nirvana played a big role in that. This is Nirvana at their best. 4/5 Album.
Felt completely neutral about this album, far from the worst, far from the best.
I was really excited for this, I never listened to Slipknot growing up, they're just a metal band that missed me. I was less impressed by the album, maybe because it was a Sunday, maybe Sundays just aren't the day for a bunch of guys in masks, or maybe it just wasn't that good... Average for me
Not listened to a lot of Joy Division other than the hits, so wasn't sure what to think going into this. But really vibed with this album, absolutely would listen to it again, Elegia was a standout for me, change of pace and just up my alley completely. Nice short burst of 80's style music. 4/5.
Bob Marley is one of those artists that I could listen to endlessly, no matter the mood or scenario. Not sure this is the best album by Bob Marley & The Wailers, but also, there wasn't any tracks I didn't enjoy. Giving it a solid 4/5.
I'd heard of Neil Young, but my only real knowledge of him was that he's referenced in Sweet Home Alabama. With that being said, I adored this album! I was actually disappointed with how short it was! Enough that I'd happily buy this on vinyl. The last album that did that for me on this generator was the Bongo Band, that was a 5/5 so... A 5/5 for me.
This album was simply beautiful, coupled with the history of the album and the group, it's absolutely an album I would classify as an album that must be heard before you died.
I appreciate the White Stripes, their songs are catchy and their tunes are good. But I'm a blues and metal fan when it comes to rock. It feels like I'm doing this album a disservice and it should probably be a four, but honestly I wouldn't listen to it again.
What a journey this album was, I'm going to describe it as going on a waltzer whilst pissed out your skull.
Honestly, just supremely good! Really enjoyed this one, I'd listen to the whole album again happily. A 5/5 though? Not sure on that one.
I really wanted to like this, and I appreciated the vocals, but the beats themselves really put me off this album. Isn't much more to it.
I really like Massive Attack so this doesn't come as a surprise to me! A strong 4, not a 5
One of the original indie sad boi greats. I like the Velvet Underground, it always reminds me of Adventureland which is a fantastic film. They're not easy listening though, and this isn't an album I'd go to by choice, nor would I say everything here is a banger. 3/5
Do you like Jazz? This was easy listening whilst at work, and I'd happily listen to it working again.
Prior to listening to this, I was really vibing to New Mexican Doom Cult. I'm stating that, because it definitely influenced how I felt about this album. How did I feel about it? Well... It was meh, it was really, really meh. Just never kicked it into gear.
It was really pleasant listening, but very samey, could've been on a very indie advert.
60s album? Check. Psychedelic? Check. Has to be a 4/5 then doesn't it really? That it does, that it does.
I love Queen, Freddy Mercury will always be a great loss for music, but a Night At The Opera is not their best album in my opinion. Carried hard by some tracks.
I honestly... Just what can I say? It was awful, I didn't vibe at all to this... The worst album I've heard so far. It is now my benchmark for 1's.
I glanced at the band, saw they'd released one album, and was confused how it was a must listen to before you die... Then I read the history of the band, okay... Beginning to make more sense... This stuff was ahead of it's time, feels more like a modern post punk album made in the 60s. 4/5.
Extremely easy listening
Prog rock that just never got going
I just didn't vibe with this at all... Maybe it was because I listened on a Sunday, maybe not. Nearly scraped a 3 at points but otherwise came across flat.
Really easy listening but honestly if anyone can tell where one song ends and another begins, you're doing better than me!
Very smooth silky jazz, was easy listening but not every song was fantastic!
Pleasant listening, wouldn't go back there again though!
Another album I already own on vinyl. I'll never tire of the Byrds.
The Yardbirds are getting a 4/5, mainly due to how much they influenced Rock'n'Roll. Did enjoy the album generally though!
Chili's are always a win.
I am a scrooge, Xmas albums are not the one.
Another PJ Harvey album? What a treat. Not sure I prefer this album to Stories From The City. So 4/5.
It felt like waiting room music, and I don't mean that in a good way...
An absolute trip, but I just couldn't pull myself away? 4/5.
I'm giving this a 3 out of respect for it's role in the formation of grime, but otherwise there are so many other albums that do it better.
Had never heard of PJ Harvey, 5/5 rating though!
Songs from a Room is an album I already own, but its not a working album I don't think! Definitely a sit and reflect over whiskey album, still great though!
Really smooth listening. Really enjoyed this and would happily listen to this.
So easy to listen to, I ended up listening to the spotify radio for this album all day. Fantastic.
This sounded like a generic punk album to me from it's era. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't listen again.
Didn't expect to vibe with this album as much as I did... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bopping at work to this.
This album really surprised me! Ended up listening to it at least a few times over. Think in doing so I made myself sick of it? But a solid 4/5 anyway.
I enjoyed what I heard, but not sure I was amazed by any of it?
I'll say it... I think Daft Punk is overrated. I loved their work on the Tron soundtrack, and stuff like around the world will always be a bop. But the rest sounds like a talented kid using the DJ button on a electric keyboard to me?
Okay, now this is my shit right here. What an absolute vibe. Pure blues, pure vibes, pure 4/5, close to a 5, just needed to be longer.
"Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends" Sgt Peppers will always be the best of the Beatles in my opinion. Amazing.
Early pop-punk album I can actually stand? Why yes it is.
Jefferson airplane are in my list of bands I can listen to happily on repeat. This is an album I have on vinyl, and typically would rate 5/5, but as most of the album isn't available on Spotify, it's really just the greatest hits at this point. So 4/5.
I love Bowie, and thought I loved this album. But other than Heroes, I thought the album was lacking...
Vibed, but not so much that I'd go out of my way to vibe again... Ygm?
Love a bit of the Beastie Boys, but I'll admit by the end I'd heard enough.
Far better than Heroes, really enjoyed this. Faith in Bowie, Restored.
GRUNGE. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES. In seriousness, I grew up refusing to believe the grunge era ever ended. Soundgarden are a foundation of this genre. Rest in Peace, Chris Cornell.
Was easy listening, so easy I forgot I was listening to it.
Please Mister Postman is the solid highlight, another great album but not quite as good as Sgt Peppers. 4/5.
Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.
We love the Boss
Honestly surprised me a little bit, reminded me of radiohead?
Saw the album cover and was very convinced this would be like a very low moody country album... Absolutely was not.
I like Aerosmith... I thought I liked Aerosmith more...
Was easy listening, but nothing special.
Another album I already own on Vinyl, one of my favourites!
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would, but would I listen to it again? I would not.
Ehhhhhhh....
Some of the stranger tracks on this really brought it down. 3/5.
Didn't hate it... Didn't love it.
Honestly, was very worried this was going to be a super conservative rock album, was pleasantly surprised.
Who doesn't love the boss?
Paranoid will always be the best Sabbath album in my eyes. But Black Sabbath birthed a genre, and their music perfectly captures the atmosphere of Birmingham and their origins. 5/5.
Honestly, not the strongest Specials album, but my love for the band in general got this a generous 3. Enjoy yourself! It's later than you think!
The defining clash album, had to be really.
Only knew Fever Ray from Vikings but really enjoyed this album, would definitely listen again.
Aersomith have some bangers. But they're littered between mediocre tracks.
Imagine liking Blur more than this ;)! It's not the best Oasis album, but I'd be lying if this didn't have a big impact on me growing up!
I hate that I love this album. But it's an annoyingly good album, it can't be denied!
Very 80s. Very weird. Loved it and hated it at the same time?
I'm beginning to realise I really like Neil Young
This was very easy listening, and absolutely my jam.
Very easy listening... One of the best albums of all time??
A masterclass in feel good metal. Anything other than 5 is an insult.
Strong strong strong
Bless this album, bless this band.
My favourite hit from a great band!
