Music For The Jilted Generation
The ProdigyNot for me
Not for me
The 1st song had me smiling & I never looked back. All other electro-pop bands owe their existence to Kraftwerk This is a great lp to start the day No boring filler, every song stands on its own Now excuse me infeel the need to catch a train
I’ve always had a problem with Linkin Park The singer sounds too much like James Hetfield and their songs just all run together
This is the birth of punk
The Stones at the beginning of a great run Sympathy for the Devil starts out menacingly low and burns Keith starts showing his skills on this lp
Full disclosure..this is the first time I listened to this lp beginning to end Ignoring Kanye’s current troubles, this lp touched on so many topics and feelings. What surprised me the most was how some songs started with a musical hook, and then BAM, here comes Kanye. A well thought out album. The POWER All Of The Lights videos are so good, and dramatically different It’s a rough listen, but I will go back and listen to it again, maybe back to front next time
I like the use of non traditional instruments on this lp. Simon used Caribbean and South American instruments and music liberally. Duncan and Papa Hobo are my favorite tunes
Definitely a 90’s band All I heard was shades of Oasis, and the rest of Brit pop The more I listened the more I heard the Foo Fighters No thanks
Wish I had taken Spanish in school. I faithfully listened to the whole lp. The videos gave me an idea of what some of the songs were about. I liked the music, the Mexican folk style. I even found a Playing for Change video of Clandestino with an amazing mix of musicians
I challenge you to listen to this album and not sway with the beat. Al Green’s voice combines well with the horns on each song. His backup singers fill in perfectly and he never over sings. He holds back just enough His cover of ‘How To Mend A Broken Heart’ is almost hypnotic in its slow pace. This album made me stop and listen. This isn’t background music. Green holds your attention with his interpretation of each song. A masterpiece
It’s best to start this album and go to work on some task. Let it go, let it flow. I did stop to check out Narayan. That one got a 2nd listen and probably more to come.. it was hypnotic Keith was incredible and the bass playing on most of these songs was unbelievable
The Dolls were punk before there was punk. The album, without the visual effect of their glam style, sounds like the same formula duplicated on each song. Even with Todd Rundgren producing he couldn’t save this. I’ll take early Stooges over this any day
I forgot how good this album is. The variety of styles of music is impressive. The placement of the songs keeps you shifting gears, from a rocker like the Rover to the haunting In My Time Of Dying So many rockers, and ballads throughout It’s amazing how many songs became concert staples, Kashmir, etc
No thanks
Sci fi pop? Ok.. interesting
New Intro was the only unique song, everything else - eh
The horns, combined with Terry Kathy’s phenomenal guitar work, just make this album a great debut My favorite Chicago album…
1st song was great way to start an lp There are several amazing songs on this album
What a jewel. Every song was a joy. The fiddle playing - outstanding
It’s Motörhead LIVE, what do you expect? Hard core metal, giving the fans what they want They might not be your jam, but they put it all out there..loud, fast and hard
What a great album David Byrnes sometimes funny, many times dark lyrics hidden behind that staccato singing style Was a great listen
The rule in 1970 was ‘there are no rules’ This album is a fusion of Jazz, Rock and English Folk Steve Winwood’s vocals and keyboard stand out in front of sax and flutes in jams that flow. This is an album you can listen to at any volume and you get it The title track is a gruesome progressive, English folk tale, made all the more so by its mellow, low key rendition.
First time listen. This is a good driving album, the songs run together nicely, the beat fits a road running pattern Will check it out again
What a fun album The poetry was a trip, the music vintage Small Faces
They don’t hold back. This is some angry shit right here
Not their best lp Fight The Power was much better
The man in black - at San Quentin- With Merle Haggard in the audience, a convict himself And Johnny didn’t hold back.. this was a badass performance This is the ultimate live album Bands should study this album before they attempt to make one
My least favorite Bruce lp Been a fan since 74, have most of his stuff, but this one I can do without The title track is one of the most misunderstood songs But not his best overall
The follow up to Born To Run. Hard rocking and he perfects his stories of ordinary people shtick Good album through and through
An album with “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” is good enough, but to have as many good songs as this one… this is a GREAT album
Top 5 movie soundtrack of all time Curtis Mayfield created an album you could actually listen to without 2/3 being filler and mood creation tunes The songs stood on their own.
Not for me
What an album ‘Side 2’ was amazing Would love to see this as a ballet, the way it was intended
This album IS truth. Ms Simone sings with pain, with her heart Four Women is a heartbreaking story She was singing about things in 1966 that no one wanted to hear, but she did not care
Listened to this in the morning and it fit the mood Liked it Some funny lyrics, liked the music Will listen to this again
Hurt, Give my love to Rose & Personal Jesus are great The rest is ok Rubin should have reduced some of the filler A wonderful goodbye from a legend, nonetheless
I would prefer to hear the original vinyl, but c’mon Frank & Nelson Riddle!!! Sinatra was a true vocalist, he PHRASED the tune. He hit the right note at the right time on this lp Swingin’ Lovers is the right title, because he was swinging all trough this classic MORE LIKE THIS PLEASE
I’ll pass on this one.. not my choice
When this lp came out I realized there was more to Neil than Harvest. An album of reality, harsh at times, and musically beautiful
I liked this one. Definitely a 90’s sound, and I prefer this to Oasis. A few different styles here. Will explore their discography
If you don’t start dancing and swaying when listening to this album, you just don’t get it. What an amazing performance, wish I could see a video of this show
The Isley Brothers are pure magic Starting that record with ‘Who’s That Lady’, a nice hit for them sets the tone Covers of 3 pop/rock songs shows their versatility A great party record all around, wish I still had those bell bottoms
The Lizard King goes Jazz The music is so tight on this album The songs are so good, not just the 2 hits, but WASP, L’America and a wonderful nod to John Lee Hooker I loved the direction this album took, so sad it was their last
Uhh, no thanks
This is a trip album If you’re making a road trip from LA to Vegas, straight across the desert, this will work You’re on a Trans Canadian rail trip, turn this on Or if you’re just tripping, put on the headphones
Not sure what I think about this one. The music is interesting, kind of ELO on a budget. The lyrics? I don’t know
I’ve always liked Jack’s raw music approach This might be my favorite album by them
I don’t know what it is about ska, but I’ve always liked it This album was a fun listen, even though a few of the songs have heavy lyrics But like the first song says ‘ENJOY YOURSELF..IT’S LATER THEN YOU TINK’
Nile & Bernard were badasses. I’m not a disco fan, but I’ll always listen to Chic!!
Leonard Cohen taught me what English teachers couldn’t- the rhythm of poetry He uses strings so effectively on this lp The music blends so well with poetic cadence It’s bizarre how a man can ‘recite’ songs in a monotone, like he does, but draw so much emotion out. It shows the strength of his writing
This is a headphones favorite Yes brought Jazz to rock I never dug into the meaning of Jon Anderson’s lyrics, but thought of his voice as another instrument This lp was the first time I heard a cover version of a favorite song done completely different and loved America
A storyteller album, more Springsteen than Dylan The stories still seem relevant today, the folkie style aged ok
Yes boys and girls this album was done without the use of drugs Frank Zappa was an amazing musician and composer. This album should be listened to multiple times to get all the lyrical inside jokes and the complexity of the music To use a late 60’s phrase, this album was a mind blower
I want to put on a white dinner jacket & salsa all day, listening to Tito! What great rhythm, you can hear his influence on Santana here This album started my day on a positive note
Excellent debut album. She put her all into this one, like a lot of artists do on the first. No filler, just good writing and musicianship
I didn’t hate it, as it kind of grew on me as it went Glad I listened to it once
What a great album No jams or screaming vocals, just straight ahead great musicianship. These guys traded vocals and instruments throughout this masterpiece album. This one sets the standard for Americana.
One of the most underrated artists ever. This album is one of my desert island selections, has been from the first time I heard it. The perfect early a.m./late p.m. listen
If you want to create the ‘club scene’ of the 80’s this is your album Otherwise, forget it
WHAT A GREAT DEBUT ALBUM WHAT AN ALL TIME GREAT. So many classic hits There’s no filler here This album is absolutely on the desert island playlist
Another classic selection So many great songs here, several long pieces that are just amazing This album is such a genre bender, from hard rock to country, to something like ‘Running Dry’ that has a sea shanty drone to it. Then step back and consider how much music Neil Young has created over the years and it makes this album even more impressive
This is different level hip hop I appreciate the style & moods this one put out
Geez, what a tough listen. Forget present day Kanye, he was an artist when this was released He created art. You may not like him or it, but should respect it.
This album stands the test of time! Straight ahead blues rock Crank it up and ENJOY the Captain!!!
It would be an ok road trip album, especially late night long distance driving, but not a home listen
The 1st song had me smiling & I never looked back. All other electro-pop bands owe their existence to Kraftwerk This is a great lp to start the day No boring filler, every song stands on its own Now excuse me infeel the need to catch a train
Another Brit pop choice that I only knew the name before today I don’t know why, but I liked this one, especially Waterfall and Don’t Stop
A party album with most of the songs full of energy & LOUD This has something for everyone
Of all the Brit pop bands so far, this one’s the least favorite
This album starts with one of the most iconic riffs ever and introduced me to the Rickenbacker 12 string guitar. Roger McGuinn was my first ‘favorite guitarist’. With this album The Byrds helped me understand and appreciate Bob Dylan Their harmonies are great, and the guitar work throughout is so good.
This is one of the albums that defines the summer of 69. Their harmonies are wonderful. They voices fit together well. The guitars fit nicely under their voices Wooden Ships is one of the scariest songs ever written about war, it’s beautiful, melodic and chilling at the same time CSN perfected the ‘singable’ protest song
Another great party album, jumpin & jivin Put this on at your next event and watch the reactions
Not in my rotation, not my choice of group, but I always listen to an Oasis song to the end if it pops up on the radio. this is the first time I listened to this album all the way through and see why they were so popular. Several good, to really good songs & the hits, deserved to be so
I’ve always had a problem with Linkin Park The singer sounds too much like James Hetfield and their songs just all run together
Not a Hip Hop fan, but I liked his vocals
I’ve always liked the combination of a symphony & a rock band. This collaboration is one of the best
What variety! So much music and each side different These guys should’ve gotten the fame the Chili Peppers shouldn’t have I liked how the did the 4 sides concept
What a shame, this guy was an artist
What a weird album, which I strangely liked
It was good for a listen I liked the re-issue better, with the Danny Whitten song ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ included better
This album still sounds relevant today His lyrics hit home, and the music…fantastic Still have this in my collection
At least it’s not another Britpop Not much here Just because someone thought doing a smaltzy cover of Iron Man was a good idea, doesn’t mean you should do it However, for having the balls to do it I give them an extra star
Alice Cooper returns to high school! This is an straight ahead rocker that hints at his theatrical style to come Enjoyed reliving this one. Had this one in the original vinyl package
ELLA!! All these classic songs done in that cool style of hers! A fun listen, a great way to start the day
I liked it Plain and simple
What a key album from the 70’s
Such a good album from a group so young This album is the epitome of the 80’s sound
Before there was hip hop there was Gil Scott Heron This album is such a wonderful blend of poetry, jazz and soul
I liked it, but this could’ve been a single lp Got bored after awhile
You start the album with RESPECT?? Where do you go from there? One of the greatest voices created one of the best albums of the 60’s
A lot of double albums have too much filler. Not this lp. Hendrix delivered a masterpiece. Sadly, you are left wondering what more he could have done, given time. He showed glimpses of the future that was left unfulfilled. This is album that requires several listenings to truly appreciate its depth
This is my least favorite Peter Gabriel-Genesis lp This is one of those double albums that should’ve been single Still don’t get the ‘concept album’ story either
My least favorite Bowie album, but that’s a high mark to hit The title track is one of his biggest hits. I liked the instrumentals better than the the rest of the album
This is the birth of punk
Haunting and beautiful at the same time.
Nahhh, tried them once can’t do it again
Too much like everything else back then
A masterpiece Van displayed several styles here, starting with the 1st song that is one of my favorites by him ‘And it stoned me’
3 amazing voices that blend together well
