Quite melodic with beautiful sounds - especially from Brian May's screaming guitar and Fredies iconic voice. You know you're listening to early Queen, with their incredible sound and brilliant chord progressions. It's a very good record, but not quite as good, for me, as their next one, "A Night at the Opera".
A couple of nice Joy Division stereotypical songs start the record, then comes the hard-to-hear vocals on top of some decent dirge... then a few more pretty good songs. I'll add the first few cuts to my library but won't add the record.
My first of 1001 records to listen to. Nice choice. Of course, it's often considered by many to be the best album of all time...
Being a major Beatles fan, I love this record. It's not my favorite Beatles album, though.
Opening with, "Come Together", puts me in a place of comfort. My memories of past listens, environments, etc. are heightened.
While listening, I'm in "work mode", so it's obviously great to hear while in that mode. I love to listen to this record while doing nothing, too. So very versatile. Classic!
1/2 5 Star - 1/2 4 Star, with a 3 Star in there... So 4 1/2 stars.
Obviously, I don't have to say much about my love for the Beatles. This record is not a fit for every day, or for some activities... but it sure is a great listen when you're into it.
Right off the bat, just by the album cover, I know it's not something that I'm used to listening to. In the desire to expand my musical diversity, I started listening to it.
The first song has a nice beat and a catchy rhythm. With R&B, reggae, and of course, African beats, it's a nice blend of sounds.
After more time listening throughout the day, I like the vibes. Jazzy, rasta, big band-ish, calypso, etc. Nice to hear while working. I could see situations where this might be nice to hear outside with friends.
Decent grooves. Another good background record.
I have never listened to this record. Of course, I've heard the popular songs on the album, but never listened to the whole record in one sitting. Let's do it.
First, note - not a fan of Eric Clapton's voice. Never have been.
Second, note - not a big fan of twangy guitar rock. I can understand the popularity of this record, but it's not for me.
Had to turn it off after the 4th song.
Some great stuff here: "Don't Stop Till you get Enough", and "Rock with You"... It's not enough to give it 4 stars, though.
Nice beats. Good to hear different than the usual stuff. Had it on while doing stuff - nice.
This is the first time I've heard this whole record. Starts out great, and ends great, but the middle goes into some country blues that I'm not a fan of.
Nice jammin' stuff. Starts with "Theme from Shaft" - classic. Nice grooves follow. Great to hear while getting stuff done.
The Specials, and similar bands, were not much of my thing as a whole genre. I like to hear, "A Message to you Rudy", on occasion, but for the most part, I wouldn't listen to the whole record.
LED ZEPPELIN!!! Enough said!
Just ok. Maybe in the background while cleaning...
Dance music, eh?
I'm not typically a fan of dance music in general. Of course, when in Rome...
I'm in SEMO now, not Rome, so it's not something I'll keep listening too. First cut, familiar tune - good beats. Good sound. Let's see how far I can make it.
Made it to the 2nd song. Done.
Except for track 4: Fairy Tale of NY, this record is not my cup of tea. Truthfully, this music genre kills my soul. I am not a fan. It kinda hurts.
YES! Come on! Classic Radiohead.
From song one to the end, it's filled with 5-star songs. This is a great album start to finish!
Opening track: So Many Sides of you. Nice sound. Great rhythm.
I can see myself listening to this record from time to time - especially in the right environment. Great party music.
I can also see myself listening to this while working. Great background stuff.
Like any classic record, listening to "Rumours" immediately brings back memories of the time when I heard it everywhere. This record has all the Feels that a classic record should have. It really doesn't get old. Even the lesser-rated songs are nice to hear. Also, "Rumours" is a great record to listen to from start to finish. I gave it a 4-star because a few songs are just okay. Great, but not worthy of a 5, which is HOF.
I have never heard of this band. At first, it looks like it should be a metal record. It isn't. It's listed as "Alternative". So, the first song starts. Yes, alternative. The first few songs are pretty good: Good beats, groove, and sound. The next songs are just mediocre. It's good to be able to hear stuff like this from time to time.
Great album cover. Ok songs. Janis Joplin was involved. Still not interested in listening. If I hear it on the radio, I might keep it on, but not going to listen to the whole record. Not my jam.
Yeah, just ok. Good funky alternative. Great iconic hits in there as well. But, again, I gotta be in the mood.
I'm not in the "Worldwide" genre at the moment. This might be good for dinner music in the background, but that doesn't happen much in my world.
Bowie, Iggy inspired NiN. Can cause headaches, but good stuff. Has a couple of 4 stars on it, but not enough to rate 4.
In my opinion, “Revolver” is a better record by a small margin, but this record stands as one of the best ever - for very good reason. It’s a masterpiece.
Pretty good Neil Young stuff. Nothing stands out on this record for me, just some predictable, common Neil Young sound.
At first listen, the alternative sound of grungy guitar riffs, moderate tempo, and clean production was inviting. Nice sound... but pretty boring. Nothing really to keep me listening.
Nice soul record. Good production. Great voice.
Nice classic reggae music from 1975.
I tried to listen... lasted minutes. Good hard rock sound... then I heard the scream metal. Did a quickie through the starred songs... yep. enough for me.
Don't know anything really about the Buzzcocks, other than knowing who they are, and knowing that they're in a genre that I don't rarely listen to.
It's nice to hear. It's a good listen. But, Punk is not much of a genre that I attract to.
Great blues record! Never heard before today. Added to library! My first Jeff Beck whole record listen.
Never heard of the artist or record. On first listen... A nice mellow record. Singer has a nice voice... music is acoustic guitar driven. I will not listen to this again, as it's not my favorite groove... but decent sounding. Get's a little annoying after 1 song or so...
Love this record, and the songs on it are welcoming when I hear them in random play mode. It's such a great album to listen from start to finish, too.
Good beats and grooves, but the pop Irish sound doesn't do it for me.
It's just ok. Nothing that moves me to listen to.
I was not able to find this record on Apple Music, so I played her 1966 record, "You don't have to say you love me." I listened to one song. Yeah, not my thing.
If any of these songs show up on a shuffle, or the radio, I may listen... but to hear the whole record at one sitting... I make it to the 2nd song and am done with it.
If I was a Stones fan, this would probably be one of my faves. But I'm not. It's a very good blues-driven rock and roll album, with classics on it... but for me, it's just a decent record. Nice to hear from start to finish, though.
Decent stuff. Pretty typical 90's alternative, but nothing on the record is amazing. Didn't add any songs to my library.
An amazing debut album from one of my fave bands. It's very close to a perfect record, except for a couple of so-so songs.
Listened to the first track, then the starred ones... Typical 60's anti-war pop, without a popular track on it. Not my cup.
The opening track, "Walk on By": Great beat and rhythm start it out, then Isaac's dreamy, soulful, voice appears.
I think this will be a party-type, background record to listen to in the future. Decent stuff.
Some awesome Blues! From one of the greatest!
The record starts out with, "Motherless Children", which is a fine song. Then, a couple of mediocre songs... then, "I Shot the Sheriff" (classic). Then some more mediocre blues rock stuff.
At first listen: Nope! Tried to hear more... Nope!
Yeah. Fun B-52's music. Rock Lobster! Other than that song, the rest is just okay.
I tried. I gave it a few songs. Decent for Grateful Dead. But not a Deadhead.
Not a bit TP fan, but I do like a few of his songs. Besides, "Breakdown" and "American Girl" this record is just ok.
Thanks to my uncle, who was/are ahead of his time, I was fortunate enough to hear this either when it came out in '77 or soon thereafter. It's a masterpiece and after so many years, you can hear its (and Eno's) incredible influence on generations after. Thanks, Carter!
The thought of seeing an Eagles album, knowing that it would be here for sure was kinda scary... I decided to dive right into it, using my AirPods. Glad I did, cause I can actually hear the production. Listening to these songs again sound daunting, so put on some great headphones and try to hear it differently. Hearing these songs again on a random radio station is a quick press to turn off. Done. With headphones, it's much better, maybe moved it up a 1/2 star. Except for the title track, New kid in town, and Life in the Fastlane, this album is horrible.
A pretty good first record after his thing with Garfunkel! I love saying, Garfunkel!
A couple of really great songs, Mother & Child.... Me and Julio... and of course, "Duncan"!!! :)
Again, I wish there were 1/2 stars. With my system, there has to be at least 1/2 the album with 4-star songs to make it a 4-star record. This one is a very good record, but not 4-star. 3 1/2! Some great songs for sure, but then the rest is just pretty good.
So great to reconnect with this record! It's a beauty!
From song to song, it's really hard to imagine that this is their first record. Not a bad song on the album.
This is the first full album listen of any The Jam records. It's a very good record, with fun and memorable songs. "Start!", and "That's Entertainment" are songs I've heard a few times before. I have added a few of these to my library.
It's like The Beatles Meet The Clash.
Overall, it's pretty close to being a 4-star record. But some of the stuff is just okay. 3 1/2 stars is more like it.
Decent record to have on in the background. I really like a couple of the tunes, but the rest is just okay.
It's an album with classic stuff: Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman, and Mr. Blue Sky... Are three songs enough to make it a classic album? Listening to the whole thing is a good listen with those songs in the mix, but the songs around it are just decent. I wish there were 1/2 stars. Not enough for 4 for me. I think going forward that's my barometer... at least 1/2 of the songs gotta be amazing! This is not quite there for me.
This rocking, energetic, and influential rock album from 2003 starts with a bang: Seven Nation Army! Yes! It continues to keep my body parts tapping and/or playing air drums and air guitar.
This is my first full listen to this record. It's got some great songs and some decent ones. Overall I did add a couple of tunes to my library, but not the whole album.
I have to confess that I have never heard this record in full. I am a huge fan of Sir Paul, and consider him to be my favorite Beatle - after many years of posing as a John guy. For obvious reasons, he's the most prolific of them all.
This is a decent record overall.
It's all the songs we know of already but in their original versions. It's a very nice record to have on, especially in our Caribbean environment!
The songs are very good, but the production, of course, is older and lacks my desired sound output. Note: Headphones recommended.
A decent hip-hop/rap album. Listened while working. Nice beats, rhythms, etc. Good groove for sure. Background record when environment warranted.
ZZ Top: Not a fave, but listenable when they come on. Obviously, this record is filled with big hits, but none of them hit my core. The other stuff on the record is just ok. Meh.
Note: Not available in Apple Music... had to YouTube...
Just like the record after this, not in the mood.
It's obviously one of PIL's first records because of the production. It's not a very good record. It does not stand the test of time, in my mind. Next!
Jazz!?! Don't know if I'm ready, or even in the mood, but what the hell.
First track: familiar. Not in the mood.
Apple "starred" track, "Take Five". Yeah, I've heard this: Nice jazz.
Had to hear Disc 2, Track 1: "St. Lous Blues". Meh.
A decent record. It's nice to have on while working... the indie-pop sounds mix well in the background while working.
I have not added any of the songs to my library, but it'll be good to hear randomly from time to time.
Seeing this record come up made me laugh, as I don't take The Monkees seriously, and never had, except to recall their "hits" whenever they appear.
It's definitely a 60's record. The only "starred" by Apple Music is track 6, "Shades of Gray". It's pretty bad.
In summary, this record took three minutes to review and discard!
You know how I feel about the Stones!!! Overrated! There, I said it.
I understand their appeal, but I just don't like to listen to more than their typical classic rock hits.
This record starts out strong with, "Gimme Shelter", then goes to awful with "Love in Vain"... then the third track - after skipping within 30 seconds to it - had a frickin' fiddle! NOOOOO.
"Live With me" - Ok. The Title Song is another mediocre song. Midnight Rambler is better. Ending with You Can't Always Get..."
Done. I'll hear the popular cuts on the radio someday, but will not be playing these songs again.
Definitely putting the headphones on for this one! Gotta hear that production. So much going on.
This record is truly magical. From start to finish. Each song is brilliantly composed and laid out perfectly. The Eno/Bowie thing is real! I can see how RCA went crazy with this one. Heroes is truly a masterpiece!
Some good songs, some not so good. A Couple of classics.
Nope! I'd rather chew on tin foil!
Not in the mood. The opening track, "Cisco Kid" is the only memorable hit from the record. The rest is just ok.
This album is one of my top 10 records. Each song is a masterpiece. The production, lyrics, energy, etc. hits me in the right places. Anytime. Anywhere.
The first two tracks are familiar and I like them. Listening to the rest of the record... Mellow. Nice sounds. A decent record.
A decent, typical 60's rock record ending with the hit, "Time of the Season".
A decent blues record when you're in the mood.
I love Elliott's voice and sound, but other than "Between the Bars", this record is mediocre. Boring.
I just can't! The music is decent, and the lyrics are thought-provoking, but his voice and staccato are too much for more than one song.
Not in Apple Music. Listened through YouTube. Pretty sappy music. It has a 60's vibe. Not my fave.
Funky jazz to start it off, then a weird and scary 2nd track. Listened to a few minutes of the rest of the record. Not interested.
Early Beatles is great to hear from time to time. I prefer the later records, but this one is amazing. Some classics, and then some just okay stuff.
I really enjoyed listening to this record. I only knew a couple of songs from Supergrass, but none from this record. There are a few really good songs and a slew of really decent ones. Not enough 4-star songs to give the record 4 stars, but it's very good.
Some decent hip-hop/R&B. I tapped my foot and enjoyed it as much as I enjoy that genre. "Scooby Snacks" is quite fun.
Dance music while at home is not a suitable situation. Ok, I did move a little in my desk chair...
This record is an absolute classic!
Yes! Especially after listening to the Nico record! Classic! With only a few average songs, this is a great record.
"These Days": Perfect Comedy Gold!
Not my cup!
Thanks to the opener, "Like a Rolling Stone" I decided to listen, as I am not a fan of Dylan - his voice mostly... I saw him in the 80's and he was awful! He played each song back to back without any sense of care for the crowd. I have a negative respect for him since.
We'll see how far I get with this listen... I couldn't listen to it. Did about 10 seconds per track. Done.
Tried, but couldn't do it. Just bad pop music. Cliche Hammond organ and drum machine.
A very good second record for Coldplay.
Had to listen knowing that I wouldn't like it. Not a fan of the Sitar in general except for the couple of Beatles tracks it appears on. Yeah, I was right. Didn't like.
Wow. WFT?!? How did I miss these guys? Maybe I mistook them for another band. Wow. This is really good! Each track is another good one. Nice. I'm a fan now!
I guess it's Christmas in July. I'm not a fan of holiday music in general, but this one has some goodies... rock and roll holiday... If I were to hear one of these during the holiday, I wouldn't be too pissed. Not bad.
An interesting listen. Supposedly the first rock concept album from 1968. Love those Britts! Not bad. I've heard of these guys, but have never heard any of these songs. Good time going back in time.
I like their music, but Wayne Coyne's voice annoys the shit out of me. So I can't take too much.
Dylan for me is a cringe-worthy expereince, but out of respect I decided to listen to this classic record. With songs like "Blowin' in the Wind", "Masters of War", A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall", I got through it - for the most part. Had to fast forward a few of them. It's not all bad. I love Masters of War - especially now with America being so stupid! We need more folk songs about these cruel leaders on the planet!
Another Major Release in 1979! After hearing their infamous "Roxanne" in 1978, we get this gem of a record. This record is filled with some classics. My favorite of which, "Walking on the Moon". "Message in a Bottle", "Bring on the Night", The Bed's too Big... " Great record!
I'm not a Dylan fan, mostly because of his voice. I understand and respect his stature, but after a minute or so of his music, I skip to something else. This album has a few classics, so I listened as much as I could. Master of war is amazing.
If I need some nice, smooth R&B-flavored rap, this would be a good option.
I wish there was a 1/2 star rating. I would give this a 3 1/2 star. Out of 10 songs on this record, 4 or so are classics. the rest is good-to really good but not classic. Very good record-ish.
Their debut album features some nice foot-tapping alt-rock. Has it been 22 years since this came out?!?! This is my first listen to the whole record. It started nice with, "Rich"... I am not going to add the album to my library, but a few, like, "Maps" and "Y Control"!!!
Right out of the gate I was attached to the beat, the vocals - nice Beatles'esque sounds/harmonies. It's also got some 70's style organs and mood. After a few songs, it turns into smooth jazz. Not bad. Glad to hear it.
I've never been a Beach Boys fan, but I tried to listen to this record, as I know of its importance and how it's always in someone's top 100.
I got to track 4. Had to stop. Just not my thing.
Originally not interested in listening to this record - not quite in the jazz mood. Then I decided to give it a quick listen.
Got 2:40 minutes in and said no. Not my jam. at least for today.
Yes! I love the blues! ... but not all the time. This record is phenomenal and a classic. Love it.
Never heard these guys. what the hell...
Ugh. Yuck. Nope!
Not typically a Pop Music fan, this record is a nice soothing listen. Some very good writing, and of course, "Holding Back the Years" is classic 80's that create some great sense memories.
I've been listening to music all of my life, and of course I've heard The Band. I've never listened to The Band except for what I've heard in the background. I was never a fan. I listened to this record - for a few turns on each song... couldn't get past the fourth or fifth. Not The Band for me.
Starts out strong with "Cinnamon Girl", then some decent lesser-known cuts, then "Down by the River". Then a couple more "meh" songs, then "Cowgirl in the Sand". So, some classics mixed with Ok. Another one where I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars.
Yeah, it's got, "Poppa was a rolling stone" on it. But... nothing too much outside of that. Some not so good, and a few just okay. I don't see myself playing this one again anytime soon.
Raw 60's rock and roll. Meh.
A very good Roxy Music record. Not my favorite, but has some incredible songs on it...
I'm trying to give this a listen... I can't do it.
Cheezy 80's drum machine, synths, etc. with the unmistakable Cohen voice... if this sounds like something you can listen to, go for it. Not me.
I'm not a huge Clash fan, but respect the shit out of them for their place in music history. This record is decent - some great foot stomping rock and roll! I have my new anthem, "I'm so bored with the USA". Thank you, Clash. Need more of this folk/punk in our world. No classics on this record, but still great to hear.
I've heard bits and pieces of Tom Waits over the years and have really enjoyed his music along with that unmistakable voice.
This is my first listen in a long time. I really enjoyed it.
One of my favorite records, and one of the first "adult" records I owned. In 1974 I was 9. I don't think I heard this until I was 12 or so, but "Dreamer" was a constant in our house.
I concede to the attention and I get its place in history. Not for me.
A record with classics, like "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", you'd imagine it to be a classic album... but not this one. Those are the only 2 songs that are the classics. The rest is just ok and/or bad '60s rock.
Yeah, alternative stuff. This is the first I've heard of this band. Not bad. Good stuff: beats, voices, production. Just good. Not Awesome.
Jumps out at you right away with "Hate to Say I told You So"... nice. The rest is pretty good. I would hesitate to call this Punk, but it's pretty close. Not a huge punk fan, as it gets old pretty quickly for me. I can only handle so much screaming.
Again, I can only do so much screaming in my music, even if it goes alongside such incredible music. This music is very good - tapping and moving the whole listen... but the screaming. I'm sure they'd call me a pussy!
From start to end, this is absolutely one of my top 10 records. Each track, is a 4.5 to 5 star song - not something you get very often, or at all.
Brilliant!
When I'm listening to something new - especially when I'm not familiar, I'll look at the genre. This record is in the Dance category. I immediately ask myself if I'm in the mood to listen to a Dance record. I'm about 99.9% not ready to listen. But I really enjoy this 1001 albums generator and am willing to try out unfamiliar music. Rating something from a genre that you don't listen to, or don't like, is not fun. I could give this a "1" star because I didn't like the music. I liked MJ Cole's voice - and can hear her talent, but I just don't like the music - in general. The beats were good. Production good...I didn't hate it. It's not "bad"... but i didn't like it. there.
Often listed as one of the top 100 of all time, this record is packed with classics. But it's the tracks that are just okay in my opinion that keeps it off my top 100. For my ear, their vocals get a little annoying and whiney.
A decent record from a band I grew up with. This has a couple of classic Sabbath, "Changes", "Supernaut" and "Snowblind", but the rest are just okay.
Such an amazing first record - released just months after I was born - perhaps a true reason "My Generation" has created the meme and sound of the bi-decade sign of age... my personal generation started here. Bowie's "Changes", and so many others have created songs along the way... I first listened to the stereo version, then went and enjoyed the mono version. Try it! Fun record where you can get a glimpse of the Who to come!
