Boring. I don't like jazz
I don't know what to think. I thought this sounded like a gentle courtney love. Or a harder version of Alanis Morrissette. She certainly sounds like a rock girl. But I got kinda bored. And she doesn't sing that well either. I guess the importance of this album lays on the risque lyrics. Kudos to her. Sexism was awful in the 90s. But I didn't really like this album musically.
The god of guitar. There's some impressive musicianship here, and I was happily suprised that there are also proper songs in the mix of the guitar solos. I had only listened to a greatest hits album before. This is the first time I hear a Hendrix proper album. Not bad at all. Just not my style, specially since I don't play guitar. A guitar player would probably appreciate more this album.
This album is just bangers after bangers. The true god of guitar. This kind of music is the original "dad rock" for me lol. I like the songs better here that on the first Hendrix album I got before: "Electric Ladyland". Unfortunately I'm not a guitar player so I never had the desire to explore his career more. I hate that this kind of rock, harsh and raw, doesn't translate well to my instrument. Another thing on the production side is that there are weird choices for the stereo use. For example having the lead vocals only on one side. I listened to the versión that's on TIDAL. Those weird stereo things definitely make the songs sound outdated.
not really my cup of tea, but he had a really amazing voice!, I loved his passion and power. It's good to hear someone I completely ignored in the past and figured out how he influenced so much great music created later.
I'm more a music guy. I have trouble enjoying music that's supposed to be heard and rated because of the lyrics. I connect emotionally with the music mostly, not with the lyrics. Besides, I always had trouble understanding the lyrics on english songs. Same as the mix and master (listening to the TIDAL versión). Doesn't sound outdated to me at all besides being such an old record. It just doesn't speak to me personally. But I can see why this album is in the book.
Boring. I don't like jazz
Boring. Except for the first song. The rest all sound the same to me. Kinda bland elevator music. But it makes good background music while doing something else.
Well at first I though this was generic sounding music from that era. But now, after reading more about them, I realized that they were the first and influenced more bands that I can name. Too bad I don't smoke weed anymore cause this would have been exactly the kind of music I'd be chillin' with my friends during my 20s. Even though this is not the music I usually like, I'm adding this album to my "classic rock" playlist.
Good record! I think I'm keeping this one. Very creative.
I don't like the vocals. Sound like he's uninterested and bored the whole time. And besides he could really use a touch of a pitch correction software. For now I'm trying to appreciate the music behind his voice. It tries to be experimental and I appreciate that. But sounds too much like if all the songs were composed with an acoustic guitar and the rest of the musicians had to figure out what to play around it. Everything it's just...... Bland. Boring. At the end, nothing from this album got me excited.
Not the worst album I heard so far here. But I don't enjoy this kind of commercial "indie sounding" crap. And Seven Nations Army is still over played af. Still trying to get through it. Maybe it will grow for me. Don't know.
I get the feeling I could enjoy this album a lot more if I understood the lyrics. Maybe I'll listen against with lyrics in hand. But for now...... It's just generic punk?? A harder version of The Clash?. I was reading they were one of the first and kudos to them for going against the on going homophobia of those years. But it's not really music I dig.
Nice raw sounds. Don't like the fake Live audience. And Janis Joplin screaming is giving me a headache. But overall not bad. Crazy hippie rock jams.
Ok I thought it started interesting enough. But then the songs, chord progressions, drums and even the "weird" noises don't sound original to me. I wanted to like this music but I ended up bored as fuck. It's all the same long boring crap. Where the fuck comes all the praise for this set of 10 dog turds???. Well sorry, I'm being too harsh. I'm sure this is someone's baby. But I'm still looking for the "goosebumps factor". Haven't found anything yet and, certainly, this is not it. What I can say is that I find this album less unbearable than the Wilco album I got a few days ago. So it's an improvement!. Still I'm not giving it more than 2 stars because this is not music I would listen again except for background music when I set my IPod to shuffle. Omg I just tried to listen to this album again. It's... So... Damn... Boring! :( and I hate that I feel this way about it because I need to see the positive side of life. But this is too much for me.
Nah
Better than the other indie rock sounding albums that I got before. I enjoyed some of the Electronic sections. I give it 2 stars only because it's not Coldplay.
First album I got here that I already heard before. I think this is a lot of fun. Raw and genuine rock. Even with the out of tune guitars or clashing chords at times.
Nice and interesting production. Maybe I like the somber atmosphere. And electronic music elements are always welcome in these kind of albums.
Funny lyrics. This music is the perfect real punk album. Raw and amateur sounding. But good music to get on a mosh pit. Unfortunately is not a style of music I enjoy that much.
I don't like jazz. But I like the occasional avant garde music mixed with classical and folk. This is a record to listen concentrated and analyze all the elements that play there.
at least is better than Wilco. Sounds like old rock pop to me. Nothing original, nothing interesting.
Very creative music. I think this is very interesting musically and lyrically too.
A fun album. It sounds good and has a nice production. Very creative to take inspiration as a keyboard inspired album.
What can I say. It's U2. I guess this album influenced a lot of bands because I hear many similar things that I've heard from other bands. Never payed attention to this album before. It's actually Ok. I'd play it again. Not the kind of music I like but this is fine.
Good 90s music. Reminds me of Beck's music also from the 90s. Never heard of this band before. I think is kinda ok now. My teenager self in the 90s would have hated this.
Music school ruined this music for me. It just sounds like work. Not something I can relax to. Too bad, because I remember there was a time I actually kinda liked bossa nova. But it just reminds me too much about being tortured as a student and also as a player. Frank's voice is very nice and Tom Jobin's compositions are beautiful as always. I just have too many negative memories attached to this music style.
Beautiful vocals. But I don't like country music.
It's always nice to hear artistas getting inspiration from other cultures. I like the mix with western and africano folk music. It sounds like this was done with respect and admiration. I don't think it's cultural appropiation.
Catchy songs, great production. And this is the album that started with the idea of releasing songs as a whole product rather than just individual albums. I'm not the biggest Beatles fan but this album is gorgeous.
Surprisingly enjoying this album today. Must be that I'm on a better mood. Anyway, the commentary about keeping peace at the beginning is nice (the Donald Trump comment aged like milk though). I'm not from the USA. I have no idea about the drama between rappers from this or the other coast, and frankly don't really care. When this album was released, MTV had already stopped playing most rock bands in favor of boy bands, pop music and this kind of hip hop. One of the extremely overplayed songs was "Work It" which, of course, I hated at the time, along with all the other crap that MTV started pushing. I was finishing high school at that time and I was very much into metal, hard rock and industrial. I had no interest in pop music and I deeply hated Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. But after all these years, I can appreciate more this kind of music. Not my cup of tea once again. But It's really well done, sounds great even after more than 20 years. And the messages of peace and "getting along and be gentle to everyone" sounds really good to me. Again, I have no idea about the beef between rappers, and I don't even know if Missy Elliot has been cancelled or has done anything bad since then. I'm only taking this album at face value.
This one is a keeper. I love albums that work a story and a concept from start to finish. I love the sci fi story that can also relate to what's happening in real life. The music is awesome too. I've never heard about this artist before or anything from this album. I think it's really well produced, like the good kind of pop music. Eclectic and not extremely commercial. This music is like an art project wrapped in pop music. I like it.
One of my favorite composers! I love Piazzolla so much and how he created the "New Tango". I never really heard this album that much before today but I really like it. The collaboration with a vibraphone virtuoso is a plus. Gary and Astor collab is awesome, and the quintet was on fire. I love the piano player Pablo Ziegler. Still, my favorite Piazzolla albums are the Live at Montreaux festival '84. And the Central Park concert. This recording is missing one of my favorite Piazzolla compositions: "Adios Nonino" which I'd have loved to hear with the vibraphone sound.
Beautiful voice. I think this album tries to be jazz and fails. Which is all good to me because I really don't like jazz. Although I hear hints of country which I don't like either. This is the kind of album I need to listen several times to digest it. I'm finding it kinda bland. I'm not hearing here anything that blows my mind. But I'm trying to figure out why this is one of the Best selling albums of all time.
Fuck this album sucks. Even the Circle Jerks have more sense of rhythm and musicality than this guy. The beats sound amateur, everything sounds badly mixed and he's out of tune almost every time he's not "rapping" and attempts to sing. And when he's rapping he's annoyingly behind the beat. But it doesn't sound like he has a certain groove behind the beat. It just sounds like he can't keep the correct timing. How the hell is this shit part of the book????. The whole lack of musicality makes me not even want to care about the whole "rap opera" OR whatever the fuck he's talking about. I would give this album a negative ranking if I could. It doesn't even deserve 1 star. UPDATE: I gave this album a 2nd try while reading the lyrics... Nope. It still sucks. Couldn't make it past the 2nd "song". Sounds like the story of an asshole kid. Damn this sucks. I wish I haven't gotten this album.
Fun album. I like it very much. I know this is kinda the start of Alice Cooper career. It makes me wonder how much has he evolved over the years. I've never really listened to him, so I guess I'll be looking soon for more albums to check.
I always heard this band named as one of the pioneers of funk. But I never really heard them before. This is fun music, great grooves. The song Stand is my favorite so far. Apparently some of the songs from this album are very popular. But not where I come from. All the songs were new to me. Let's just say that in the early 70s my country wasn't in any shape to receive optimistic music. It was probably banned too. Isn't this the kind of music that later derived into "jam music"? the ones where they just play on a groove and each instrument solo for a long time?. It sounds like that to me.
This is my 2nd Nirvana album. Remarcable album. Very nice. I've never been a Nirvana fan but this album motivated me to research more about it. And after knowing it's story, all hats to Kurt Cobain. Actually, not just him. The whole band!!. They've been through so hard experiences!!. And despite all, they are still alive today.
I'm dissapointed. I heard great things about this band but what I hear here is basically a long Jam session rehearsal. The ones you record and then check for ideas to turn into actual songs. But in this case, it was released as an album. Beats me why this album is so important. It's just sounds boring and disconnected to me.
I've never really been into Morrissey or The Smith. But I think this album is fun. I think it's ok. Not really my favorite kind of music. But I think this is fine. I'll definitely keep listening, maybe it will grow on me.
I don't get it. Whatever message he's trying to give with this album, I can't identify myself with it. Musically is not that bad, but when I read about the production process I feel sick. 24 hours recording sessions for a guy that believes he's a god. I just can't take this kind of art. And besides, Kanye sucks now a days. In this case I can't separate the art from the artist. Fck this and fck him and all his enablers.
I like dream pop. But this album sounds really badly mixed and cluttered. I tried it on my radio speakers, my usual on the go headphones and my studio headphones. It only sounded decent on the studio cans. That's really unacceptable to me. After reading the Wikipedia article and researching more, I found out that this was the "baby" of just one guy that even caused the record label to go broke. So I don't blame any of the engineers and technicians that worked here. It seems this is just the work of a douchebag making every choice like a dictator. Anyway, the whole soundscape sounds tense to me on every song. Sounds like nonsense noise with no rhyme or reason. No dynamics, very little structure, terrible mixing choices. Noise for the sake of noise. Weirdness for the sake of weirdness. I can appreciate though that other bands during the next years took elements from this album and expanded the genre to a better quality. I don't know if this album will grow on me. Maybe it will. But for now. I think it's mostly terrible.
I don't like jazz. But the rock is good here. I just wished there was more of the classical music-rock-jazz mix shown on the first track. Actually I wished the whole album was like that.
Fun album. Not my cup of tea but I can definitely hear why this album is on this list. Sounds groundbreaking for the time. But honestly I had no idea if there were similar bands from the early 80s. As this being the year 82, I didn't imagine there would be an album like this from that era. Like this kind of hip hop-funk crossover. 4 stars couse it features a sample of Queen (Another Bites the Dust). My favorite band in the World.
Fun album with many recognizable songs. But I hate that this kind of hair metal music was all about chicks, drugs and whatever. Too bad the Van Halen brothers were both pieces of shit too.
So one of the meth heads living on the street at Hollywood Blvd got a record deal. Good for him!. I can almost smell a delicate mixture of pee, feces and weed while listening to this album.
It's ok I guess. Good musicians, good music. I'm just not a fan of this kind of rock music.
Nonsense screeching rock that I used to love in the 90s. I was a big Marilyn Manson fan by the late 90s and I got this CD on sale. I was always curious to find out where the antichrist superstar sound came from. I loved it at that time. I remember all the times I cried while listening to "Hurt". I didn't hear the Johnny Cash version until several years later. Today I didn't like it so much, it's over compressed, a lot of noise, screaming and distortion. But I give it 4 stars because it was an important album while I was a teenager.
Nice music. Nice vocals. I just can't identify with the poetry or the sentiment of this kind of music. My country was going through so different things at that time. Horrible things. This kind of music didn't even make it through here.
This is the 2nd Peter Gabriel album I got. I like this one better than the last one "So". I kinda like the progressive stuff mixed with pop, rock and experimental from many bands of that era. I remember hearing "Excuse me" on the car of one of my band mates, after rehearsals, about 15 years ago. I was surprised when it came now couse I had it so buried in my mind that I never thought about it again until today!. I wonder how many other songs are hidden on my brain. Anyway, I think that's my favorite song of the album so far. Reminds me of "Lazing on a sunday afternoon" by Queen. I think Freddie Mercury got some inspiration from here for that song! 3 stars for now couse this album still has to grow on me. I'll probably change it to 4 soon though.
I think this album is a masterclass in performance. How the way you feel music can totally change the meaning of the songs. He sounds like he went through a lot of crap and is tire of your bulshit. I can hear some rage but sadness and melancholy over all. The rendition of "Hurt" is so awesome. It might be even better than the original Nine Inch Nails version. It just take another meaning. It's just so powerful and sad to hear a fragile man singing those lyrics. This whole album is like a window to his soul. The soul of a man that has gone through so much and it's at the end of his life. It's so powerful.
What a headache. Why so much dissonance?? I mean, I get it's part of the style, but when it's constant and you even have instruments out of tune between each other... This sounds like musical and production mistakes rather than stylistic choices. Even on the first song. The start of the album, the drums start playing out of tempo, slower, after the short guitar intro. Like WTF!!. Who was the one in charge that heard that and decided "yeah, that intro sounds good". And it's on the very start of the album. I guess some songs are not so unbearable but the production sucks so bad for a profesional release. And this is certainly not an album I needed to listen before I die. Why the fuck is on the book! 2 stars because the recording itself sounds nice and clean. There was good engineering here. But everything else sounds completely unprofessional.
I got 2 Peter Gabriel albums this week. Kinda getting sick of it by now. I guess this is ok. Just not my cup of tea. I preferred the "Car" album better.
I've never checked Deep Purple more than the over played songs on the classic rock radio. But I must say I kinda like this. It's a solid album with no skippable songs imho. I don't know if this would make me check more Deep Purple albums, but this was a nice surprise.
I don't like reggae. (and I played in a reggae band). This all sounds like the same song over and over. Maybe one song has swang 8th notes. And I really couldn't care less about the political lyrics. I live too far away from England, on a different reality to care. I'd probably care more if the music wasn't the same each song over and over. Repetitive and boring to me. 2 stars because, at least, is well recorded, well performed and every instrument sounds good.
Beautiful voice. Nice and sad lyrics. Pretty melodías. I think this is my favorite album of her so far on this list.
Nice and harmless. This is for background music though.
Nice! I've never paid attention that much to Iron Maiden. It's been a long time since I wanted to check them out. Not my favorite kind of rock but what the hell, I just want to headbang now to this album!!!
Turns out the link to TIDAL was to another album of her's called Pata Pata, and I just realized now a few minutes before getting a new album to review lol. So I can't speak about this album. But what I heard on Pata Pata was really nice. A good surprise of good music. I'll be checking this album on the actual list very soon.
Nice
It starts interesting. But then becomes really repetitive. I have the album "singles going steady" and I like that one much better than this one. With this kind of music, I always have problems with the "raw factor": like out of tune guitars, the ocasional drummer not keeping time but most of all, I really can't stand the vocals. I know punk is all about the feeling, vibes and lyrics but I have a big trouble enjoying the vocals on every band like this. To each their own I guess.
I absolutely love this album! I'm so glad I got it here today. I discovered them about 3 years ago. I was driving and on the radio it was "This Town...". It was so weird but fascinating that I had to find out Who this "girl band" was lol. I though the girls on the cover were the band members and I remember thinking how much I liked her voice. Soon I found out the band was actually 2 guys lol. And as Roger Taylor from Queen said "the band with the guy that has a Hitler moustache" haha. Since then, I listened to this album non stop for a couple of months. and now, it's still on my top list of albums I play regularly.
This is the kind of music I think of when somebody mentions Morrissey. It's an ok album for me. I recognize a few songs, which I didn't on the past album I got "Vauxhall and I". Still, not the kind of music I usually listen. But this is fine.
What can I say?. Every song on this album could be a single. It's that strong. Every song is catchy and memorable. But in my mind it doesn't beat any Queen album. Even if it's the best rated album on this list. so I'm giving this 4 stars. It's a really enjoyable album.
The Beatles sound is so influential that I feel I heard every song before. But I personally like sgt. Pepper's more. And my all time favorite will always be Let it becouse that's the first Beatles album I listened a lot when I was a kid. I like this album. Just don't think is that memorable. But it has great songs.
Got two Beatles albums in a row!. I think I like this one more than Rubber Soul. "Dear Prudence" and "While my guitar..." are the highlights for me. Helter Skelter is almost a metal song before metal existed and I love the Avant Garde approach for "Revolution 9". Weird and fascinating. And I found hilarious the parody gag by the Simpson where Barney is recording his own "Revolution" song lol. It's a long album and I still have to digest all the songs. I've never been a Beatles fan but this one is a keeper.
I only knew "waterfalls" before listening this album. I don't like this kind of music but is well produced. I just don't like it. And I hate that the assholes Diddy was involved in this. The story of Lisa "left eye" is just sad RIP.
Nothing justifies treating your musicians like shit. Not even if you think you're the brightest composer in the World (which you're not). I've heard weirder stuff like this. There's a lot of experimental music on the contemporary classic music genre. Which is actually documented by academia with clear objectives on what the composer was trying to achieve. There are better composers out there than this asshole. I don't mind contemporary Avant Garde art as long as it's justified. This just sounds like a well orchestrated mess featuring starving musicians following a crazy cult leader. No surprise that Frank Zappa was involved on this. I could barely finish listening this crap.
I guess this is fine as casual music. I don't hate it. I think it has some interesting electronic arrangements. But overall, it sounds to me like every guitar driven band from that era. Nothing too exciting. Hardly any interesting chord progressions. It's the kind of rock that doesn't brother me but I don't really like it. It's just MEH.
It's ok. A cool classic rock album. I like better Machine Head though. I think they still need to mature musically here to achieve real songs. Sometimes I hear loud guitar solos and screaming out of place here. I think they evolved a lot by the album Machine Head. This album sometimes feel like a Jam session. Still, this one is really good. I'm just not so much into this kind of rock n roll. It's a 3.5 for me. The playing is really passionate and tight. I love that! But I don't see myself coming often to this album
Not really the kind of music I like. It sounds interesting but I feel the lyrics are very local which alieniates foreigners to fully appreciate it. I can appreciate the creative way of using samples, and also this sounds like honest art. I always thought that hip hop from the early 90s in the USA sounded all like MC Hammer. I'm glad this kind of music existed.
Trippy and cool at times. Specially the instrumental parts. But not really my thing. It was hard to get through this one.
