1001 Albums Summary

Classic Brit pop album with a surprising mix of weird electronic sounds which I fucking loved!!! Really enjoyed it on the first listen and will definitely be sitting down for a re- listen sometime soon

Can recognise how influential Neil Young is with his song lyrics. But his style of vocals don’t appeal to me and I’m not really drawn to laidback/minimalist instrumentals. I don’t want to judge his music on just one album, but unfortunately this one didn’t draw me into becoming a Neil Young fan

This may be a controversial opinion, but I prefer this over rumours. Rumours was just a bit too poppy of a rock album for me. Then again the Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham era isn’t my favourite Fleetwood Mac era either. This album was definitely more experimental but I think I just preferred or enjoyed this album more because it felt like I was listening to a rock album. Didn’t change my opinion about how Fleetwood Mac’s best music was with Peter Green.

Preferred this over After the Gold Rush, which I already know is going to be a controversial opinion. Let’s just say I prefer Neil Young doing rock over folk, his voice is less grating for me. I do like his instrumentation more on this album, but I felt it took to long to get to a proper rock ‘n’ roll sound, it was a bit too laidback in the beginning. This is an improvement from the last album of his I listened to but its brought me to the conclusion that I’m not a Neil Young fan.

Punk rock before punk rock existed.

Listening to this album reminded me of how important Meg White was to the band. She kept their sound grounded, while Jack White fucked around with different experimental instrumentals; despite what people say, she was a really fucking good drummer.

Would have loved them if I was in college in the 80’s, great music to lie in bed and listen to while having a mental crisis.

I know this is labeled as an iconic and influential album, but I honestly didn’t hear anything new and groundbreaking in this album. Maybe because I’ve already listened to all the music that was inspired by this album, but either way it didn’t grab me.

This is more like a 3.5 or 3.75 but fuck I just love the atmospheric sounds on this album.

Not as depressing as the album cover makes it seem, although it is most definitely a darker sound for The Beach Boys, I love the atmospheric spaces they make in the instrumentation along with the echoey vocals. It feels like music for walking along the beach at night, that half sort of peaceful/haunting vibe.

This is honestly a 4.5, I have to state this to make it clear how much I adore the sonic sounds and creativity in this album. Janelle Monae is a musician who is by no means underrated but I believe doesn’t get credited enough for how much of an influence she has been on the music scene.

I wish you could add half stars to this website because this is honestly a 3.5. It’s so close to being ranked higher; there’s songs I loved; unfortunately they were swamped by songs I found forgettable

This is where I feel guilty giving a low score, because realistically it’s a 5 star album, it’s so beautifully composed that there’s nothing I can really fault, other than this doesn’t fit my musical taste and it’s unlikely I’ll listen to it again.

Good classic soul; I usually lean towards high energy in soul music; this was a bit too laid back. But that’s purely musical preference and by no means discredits how good this album is.

Not my favourite The Smiths album and Morrissey will continue to be a prick, but this brings me just as much as comfort as any other The Smiths album. They capture youthful melancholy so well

Impressive that he made the same song thirteen times

3.5, not a bad album, I am a big fan of atmospheric rock, not necessarily the same rock song being repeated 10 times
