I was surprised to not hate this. My brain had a negative association with this band but I couldn't have told you why. It turns out I had the misfortune of hearing the first single and wrote them off after that. The song writing and production were actually really good even if this still isn't something I'd ever choose to listen to.
It had been a while since I had listened to this one. This isn't a genre I typically enjoy but in my opinion this is one of the better examples of it.
Really enjoyed this re-listen. The first time I thought the quality dipped on the second half of the album but I didn't feel that way this time around.
Another re-listen for me. This one is somewhat (rightfully) overshadowed by the Folsom Prison album but Cash was electric in both musical performance and commentary.
Man, a double concept album is super ambitious. There's some great songs on here but it is long and does drag in spots which holds it back from a 5 for me.
This album has some really great songs but they are balanced out by some really bad ones as well.
A bit boring but not unpleasant. Sounds like something you'd hear in a supermarket.
I've listened to this album before but on re-listen have similar thoughts. Sam and the band do a great job with some great songs but the live setting of the album detracts from my ability to enjoy it.
If I had heard of this group before its very fitting that I don't remember. Outside of a few "stand out" tracks this was incredibly boring. Even the stand out tracks were kind of plain but they were at least somewhat enjoyable.
Enjoyed this one way more than the other album I've heard from him. My main complaint about the other album was the length of the songs and the (perceived) lack of development as they progressed. The songs did feel feel like they developed here even if still overstaying their welcome a bit.
Man this album was a fun listen. His voice is incredible and this album sounds great considering the timeframe it was recorded. The songs start to sound the same after the first 3 or 4 but the album is short enough that I won't detract for that.
Patti was/is an incredibly influential musician and influenced many artists who music I really like. There was some really cool stuff on this album but some of this was tough to sit through. In particular "Birdland" reminded me of the avant-garde performance piece that Idina Menzel's character does in RENT. I've always assumed it was lampooning the art rock scene in general but this made me feel like Patti could've been direct inspiration.
A lot of the songs on this are good but there are way too many of them on this. Add in the the skits and it really makes this a tough listen.
Other than "Bobby Mcgee" I had only ever heard Janis with Big Brother and the Holding Company but man this did not disappoint. There's so much passion in her voice, I love listening to her sing.
Fun listen, one of the better Queen albums in my opinion.
I finally got around to my relisten of this. The first time around I didn't think it was as bad as everyone says and gave it a 3. Once the novelty wears off its hard to excuse some of the more eccentric tracks on here. That said, I still don't think its as bad as everyone says; there are some really great moments on here that hark back to "Safe As Milk" which was an incredible blues rock album they released just two years prior to this one.
Beautifully written songs
Fantastic album, I always enjoy hearing this one.
I've never cared much for the slow plodding of doom metal but considering this is the forerunner of the genre and doesn't sound like anything else at the time I'll give it a pass; especially since it does eventually kick into some heavy blues rock.
The first half is a 5 star album, the second half is ok but it drags way too much. Trimming the fat on this could've made it great.
This wasn't bad but I can't say I enjoyed it. I liked the anti-censorship message at the end though
I really enjoyed listening to this one again. I had the same problems this time that I had the first go round, crowd noise and stretching out a short song into 10 minutes to provoke more crowd interaction. If you skip lost someone after like 3 minutes this might be a 5.
This was super interesting! I wouldn't say I like it but they kept me on my toes throughout which i appreciated.
This one is tough to rate. On one hand I really enjoy metal and there is not a lot of metal on this list, on the other hand this album doesn't sound great. Ultimately, I enjoy this album even though there's a ton of better metal out there.
I've always found these guys tough to listen to for more than a song or two and this album is no exception. This has some really good samples but the shout rap thing stops being interesting very quickly.
Not what I expected at all from a band called Primal Scream. It wasn't bad there were some songs I actually liked but most of them were a bit boring. Overall not bad background music though
I really enjoyed a couple of tracks from this one. The others were serviceable enough to get this a 3 overall.
I've always found Bruce to be quite boring and relistening to this didn't do much to change my opinion. I do think this is one of the better Springsteen albums since it does have one or two songs I don't mind.
The length of this combined project is way too much for one listen and would've benefited from being released as separate albums from Big Boi and Andre 3000. Individually they have their blemishes but these would've been two fantastic albums. Since I'm rating the combined album it's tough to justify a 5 but with the amount of variety packed in and the skillful production and lyricism I can't do less than a 4.
The music on this is great, but some of the songs are little bit too much to be enjoyable. Paired with 80 minute runtime I have to drop it a point
Very good album though the songs are a bit repetitive after a few minutes. Its not a huge issue on the original which was only 2 songs but I'd likely drop the extended reissue by a point for this.
There are some really good songs but there are some really bad ones as well. Add in the blatant racism on the cover and one of the songs and it drops a point
This is still my least favorite Cure album I've listened to
Of all the Cure albums I've heard I think this one is my favorite. It's not something I love, but I appreciate it.
Its been a few years since I've heard this one. I find him to be much more of a poet than a musician. That is still true but I certainly appreciated this much more this time around.
Not really something I'd throw on but it is undeniably cool and influenced many other artists I really like so extra points for that.
I liked this slightly more than than the other album he has on the list. Neither are particularly great but he's got a soothing voice.
Wow, this was not what I expected. Judging by the name and cover I was expecting metal or at least hard rock but this is one of the furthest things from it. I really enjoyed the instrumentation it provided and also the very jazz influenced rhythmic structures.
This would be much better without the vocals
A fantastic album with a very interesting story surrounding its creation and release.
I wasn't a fan of this. A few of the songs have some really cool instrumentals which kept this from getting a 1
The first time around I gave this a 2 because the beats were interesting and I appreciated the social commentary. Those are still positives but this album just doesn't work for me.
Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were a great combo. This gets a from me despite "At Last I Am Free" lasting about 4 minutes more than it reasonably should have. The other songs have so much groove you don't really notice the length.
I heard this for the first time about 6 months ago and immediately loved it. Enjoyed it just as much time time around
I enjoyed some of this but some of this was just too much.
This has some really great tracks. I enjoyed it way more than the last Genesis album I checked out.
This is the first time I've ever sat down and listened to this in full. I'll admit that I fully expected to dislike this from the jump so I was surprised how much I actually ended up enjoying it. There are some really good songs on here but there were a few I struggled to sit through.
Love Karen O, she is a great lead for the band.
This is tough to rate. Its a well-crafted piece of music with a fascinating backstory that makes it even more impressive. That said, an hour long solo piano performance is a tough sell. On personal enjoyment I'd give it a 3 but I'll give it an extra point for circumstances under which it was created.
