A really solid album, filled with interesting yet highly enjoyable classic songs with a few songs that I found myself wanting to skip. I don’t know if I would pick it over Dark Side of The Moon, but it still has some stand out hits. Pink Floyd has been an enjoyable listen for me since I was a teenager, and while not every song on this album was a hit for me, I still enjoyed it overall.
I totally get what Frank Zappa was going for, and why he was such a big deal. I do appreciate his contribution to music, but oh this album was tough for me. I think Frank Zappa is an acquired taste, and I just don’t have it.
Listening to this album was a slog. Many of the songs sounded too similar - with some obvious outliers (jailbreak, boys) Hated the weird overdubbing with the crowd between songs. Maybe just not my vibe. There’s better music from the 70s.
It’s so good but 5 stars doesn’t seem appropriate since it’s not my favourite Radiohead album. If I gave it five stars then I’d have nowhere higher to go. So maybe this is more of a ranking of my favourite Radiohead Albums rather than of all music ever. I’m overthinking this. It deserves five stars probably.
A great album with some great songs. Some of the lyrics haven’t aged particularly well but they’re still fun to listen to. A really strong major label debut album, that set them up for a legendary career. RIP MCA
I get that the story is cool and I’m sure that someone who likes this music would appreciate it more but it just wasn’t for me.
Better than I expected but it’s not my taste, to be honest.
Wow some stuff I really loved and some stuff I really hated. Spoke to my punk rooted tastes but then throws some weird in that made me want to turn it off.
They get one star for groove is in the heart, everything else sucks. It’s just uninspired 90s dance, and they can’t even sing. I’d rather put on Haddaway or C & C Music Factory.
“Could a depressed person make this?” - Ben Wyatt
I enjoyed listening to this album and I think I will listen to some of their other albums. I don’t think I’ve given REM enough credit. My one critique is that they do go on a bit, don’t they.
I really enjoyed this album. I don’t give Led Zeppelin enough listening time in my life. An excellent example of that early 60s/70s rock.
Ramblin’ indeed.
It gets two stars because I understand the historical significance of Jack Elliot, and his music but I didn't personally enjoy the music, just as I don’t really like Bob or Woody, but to each their own.
I enjoyed it, but it’s nothing too groundbreaking. I’d maybe listen again, but it won’t make into high rotation.
I couldn’t decide if I was in a horror film; a Halloween haunted house, a dance club or outer space and I don’t mean that positively.
Ughhh I wanted to like this, and was excited when it popped up but man it was a struggle. It’s partially his voice, and how un-melodic it is but also the music is pretentious somehow, like he’s trying to make “cultured punk rock” and for me it just falls flat.
By no means is this my favourite and I never think to listen to Alice in Chans. But it strikes a bit nostalgic for me as it was on the radio a lot when I was a kid and Layne has a distinctive voice.
Started out strong, but dropped off quickly. It was a fun listen but didn’t really do much other than that. It doesn’t flow very well and the lyrics aren’t great. It was just okay.
I actually liked this! It was punk without being too sloppy! It was a good listen, but my one criticism is that I found the songs kind of rolled into each other without much distinction between them.
If Leisure Suit Larry wrote an album.
I went into this with low expectations and while I don’t love every song, I was pleasantly surprised by how many I did like. This album was popular in my formative years, and I think I was turned off by the high rotation of “stupid girl” and “only happy when it rains” which, now I really liked! Also, recognizing the bass and drums in Stupid Girl as a sample from Train in Vain was fun.
I get why Ray Charles was a big deal, and while I enjoyed some of the songs on this album, overall I felt, for me personally, many of these songs were too slow. Still, he’s got a great voice and I know on the more upbeat songs I was grooving.
I found it a bit boring and I didn’t love the guys voice, but that being said, the more I listened, the less I hated it. At first, it feels like the lead singer isn’t even sure of his own lyrics, like he’s singing into the microphone while someone off to the side is trying to tell him what the lyrics are and he’s fumbling along, mumbling, while trying to get the gist of the song out. He’s monotone and flat. The instruments kinda loop throughout the songs, which makes for a bit of a boring musical experience.
I think this album looses some of its appeal when listening through Spotify (or other similar methods). The album starts out great, the first half (side) is some good, but mediocre, psychedelic rock. Then halfway through (where you’d flip the vinyl) it turns into a weird concept-rock-opera album, like Rocky Raccon by The Beatles but for half a record. It was a jarring change of pace/music and I’m not into it.
At first, this album didn’t really grab me, But the more I listened the more I enjoyed it.
It’s cool, he’s certainly an excellent musician but it’s just not what I would choose to listen to.
Starts out as a solid brit-pop album, with some hits and then it gets weird and a bit creepy.
I struggled listening to this, because I don’t dislike all jazz and I know she’s supposed to be a legend but I just didn’t like it.
This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to get from this project! I had never heard of this band but I can absolutely see them entering heavy rotation for me. This album is not perfect, there’s a couple songs that were weird, but overall it’s a keeper for me.
A couple fun songs but overall it was kinda boring.
Hell yeah, Patti Smith. Such a solid album.
Something something The Big Lewbowski. It was fine. That’s it’s. Just fine. Nothing terribly offensively bad, but nothing home run worthy. Just fine.
Mushroom head? Mushroom head!
Yeah, this certainly was experimental and I did not enjoy being experimented on.
While this album did go on a bit it was fun! I enjoyed listening to the whole thing, even though at a couple points I had to check to see if it was still the same album. It sounds pretty much what you’d expect from The Talking Heads without David Byrne. All the fun, none of the organization.
No, you can’t get David Bowie, We have David Bowie at home.
I honestly don’t know how I feel about this. It’s mildly nostalgic for me, The brothers, as humans, irritate me, and their musical talent isn’t all there, but I can’t bring myself to hate it too much.
Sufjan is my ride or die. Sad? Listen to Sufjan. Happy? Listen to Sufjan. He’s a musical genius. Illinoise is a beautiful album.
Smooth and slow. Didn’t hate jt but it also didn’t really draw me in.
It’s not that deep, I just didn't like it.
The instrumentals are good, but a bit repetitive, the songs are so long and Muddys vocals aren’t loud enough or very interesting. It’s not bad, but it’s not great.
Popular culture would say I’m supposed to like Prince, but I think he’s just a creep and this album certainly didn’t help.
It’s good, but it’s not great, it looses some stars for being a live album.
Weird, but not bad.
That’s some good classic rock.
I’m sure the story is cool, but this just isn’t for me.
It’s so good. I loved this album when it was released and it still holds up.
Queen is legendary for a reason, but this album just feels overly complicated.
I can’t decide if I like this. Snoop is obviously a great rapper, and his beats are good but the glorification of violence and drugs, and the objectification of women and sex just doesn’t do it for me.
Nice classic Brit-rock album, but it’s not their best album. Some of the songs sound like they’re trying to be The Beatles, but then you’ve got My Generation, which is a banger still. It’s their first album and they hadn’t found their sound yet.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Ozzy does tend to slur his words together though
Not terrible. A couple songs that weren’t bad but overall a bit inconsistent.
Not perfect, but so close. Love her voice and the raw emotion.
Obviously very talented musicians and I did enjoy it but it’s not something I would listen to regularly or ever, really. So music acid piano.
Some great songs about some heavier topics. Really enjoyed the music.
I can respect the art but personally, it’s too funky for me.
If you’d asked me if I liked Nirvana, I would have said no. But this album, it’s different. The stripped down, un-produced music with Kurt speaking between songs, sounding like a person, it was really really good. The cover of “where did you sleep last night” was magnificent, which led me down a whole Leadbelly listening trip.
Do I like nirvana now? Still probably not, but I did really enjoy this album. By the end, I found myself mourning a man I didn’t know
It’s a little weird but also a classic alt-rock album that influenced what we have today. It stands the test of time, even if I don’t love every song.
Weird but in a good way!
It was good, but at some point don’t all these mid-tier psychedelic rock bands kind of start to sound the same?
Starts out strong, but get kind of weird the longer you listen.
I don’t like reggae music and before today I would have said I don’t like Bob Marley but this album surprised me. I didn’t like every song but found myself enjoyed at least a few.
I’ve never really given nirvana a chance. Always thought they were an overplayed band not worth the hype but after having to actually sit down and listen to this, I am a convert. I can see the influence they’ve had on modern rock/punk/hardcore/emo and I can see why they became such legendary musicians. I wish we could have seen Kurt explore more of his talent.
Some pretty okay british mod-punk
some fun 90s welsh rock that was so nostalgic.
Just so good.
He’s a good lyricist but I hated the production of this album, the looping back tracks and the high pitched backing vocals drove me crazy.
It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good! A great departure from music of that era.
Reggae just isn’t it for me. Also, weed has been legal in my country for nearly ten years so yay we did it, and Peter helped!
Sure maybe this album was important at the time, maybe it was played an important role in modern hip-hop and rap but man, it is bad. The lyrics aren’t great and have aged so poorly, the beats are okay and Snoops features are good but there are definitely better Dr Dre albums.
What is there left to say about The Beatles that hasn’t already been said?
This is great soundtrack album, for a great film. Really excellent early Beatles album that’s fast paced, poppy and fun.
Rush is a Canadian national treasure, but this isn’t their best.
I think Bjork is an acquired taste, and I don’t have it. That being said, I respect the effort and the art.
A cornerstone of modern rock music, This album is awesome.
Another Talking Heads, Genesis sounding wannabe band. It gets two because I didn’t absolutely hate it but man, it wasn’t great.
Iconic album by a Canadian national treasure of a band!
It’s just so good! This album has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid. I could listen to it over and over. Each song stands by itself, separate from the rest while the album still feels like a whole. A masterpiece.
More interesting than many of the other British bands at the time but the genre still feels over saturated and I’m not a huge fan.
Overly repetitive beats give me a headache and make me ragey so this is gonna be a hard pass for me.
Frank Sinatra as a musician isn’t awful, but as a human, he’s kinda terrible. This album is not his best work. It’s boring, a bit creepy, and it just kinda sucks.
A Neil Young classic but it’s not my favourite of his albums.
I didn’t have high hopes for this album, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not going to be a high rotation album for me, but it’s not awful.
I have never understood the hype around her, and this album just makes me feel like I have a point. Her voice is so grating and the songs just weren’t good.
Groan, another electronica album. The overly repetitive loops make my head hurt.
Better than I expected but still not my vibe really.
Morrissey is such an insufferable prick. This album isn’t great. But all The Smiths albums get an extra star for being major influences to some of my favourite bands.
Ozzy and his voice are icons and while I don’t love heavy metal overall, I can appreciate this album as Black Sabbaths first, and also a foundational album in the heavy metal genre of music.
Eric Clapton sucks.
Listening to this album felt like a chore. Not a single catchy song, or moment. She sounds bored, like someone is forcing her to be there and she can’t wait to go home. I do not understand the hype, especially since I’m not immune to enjoying some similar music, especially the sad stuff. This album is just so boring. Maybe her other albums have some redeeming qualities. Now let’s go see some alligators.
I love music that has something to say and Minor Threat sure has something to say!
Once again I am confront by being incompatible with Jazz music. I salute you dear Thelonious but your music just isn’t my taste, no matter how many times I have to listen to it.
Bruce is a legend for a reason, he’s a beautiful story teller and musician but I found this album to fall a bit flat. The songs are a bit monotonous and there wasn’t one that stood out to me over the rest. Perhaps it’s just not his best work.
Ugh no
It wasn’t bad but it was also kinda forgettable. I was expecting worse.
