This album reminds me of having dinner at the cottage with my parents over a nice glass of wine. It was the perfect start for me
I am super vibing with Grounds for Divorce.
It's giving Radiohead meets Gordon Lightfoot.
Not a bad album. Very soothing. I might have needed it today. But not one that I am going to keep in my favs.
This is not a good start and also not the band I want to listen to on Canada v. USA day.
It's giving American Sargent Peppers.
I'm gonna need to DNF this guy.
Ok I can tell yo right now that I am going to love this but also I am absolutely not going to finish the whole thing. My Poppa always played Ella Fitzgerald at the cottage and over the holidays. And I played Gershwin all the time in band when I was in high school (nerd alert).
I got through to the middle of disk two before I tapped out because it is too long but I definitely think that there is a time and a place for me to play this and enjoy it
Jesus these are long songs. That's a cute dog tho.
This is another one I could see myself playing in the background at a family gathering. My Nana & Poppa would have (and probably did) love this.
This is starting off v funny.
Hit Da Funk and feeling a little more up my alley.
And now we are starting to get a little too repetitive for my taste. I can see how this would have been very different at the time.
I'm surprised to say I'm not going to save this one. I know "techno" is my genre, but I think it's just not got the grit I normally go for. It's not angry enough :D
I don't think that this album could be more 80s if it tried
Not the theme for CSI Miami...
This is real peak dad rock.
I know the big three on this album for before. I don't think it has the appropriate nostalgia for me to keep in my library and play again, but I did enjoy myself
"What a short album! Oh...."
This is really what I needed this morning to settle me down after a chaotic drop off. I'm just curious about how he performed these songs! Did he just never take a break? I knew he was impressive but damn.
I actually really like this. I could see myself listening to this on a rough day at work just to settle myself and lock in. Tune the world out. I like it.
Love the clarinet in Best Lose the Fear.
This is bringing me back to a very specific time in high school that honestly I kind of loved (aside from hating most of high school). That being said, I think I only know three of these songs. I feel like I am right on the precipice of indie sleaze.
Oh right off the bat I am happy. This reminds me of a cottage night. But also fuck these songs are long. And can I be honest? Having trouble discerning the difference between songs. Is this because I am not generally a fan of this genre? Or do they actually all sound the same?
DOES EVERY ALBUM HAVE TO HAVE SUCH LONG SONGS! I DON'T HAVE THIS KIND OF ATTENTION SPAN! I HAVE A TODDLER!
Ok but I do remember Moonchild from when I was young and I thought I was so cool and ethereal listening to it. Definitely a save.
I'm not so sure I'm into it. I don't hate it. I don't love it.
As a person who grew up in a Beatles house, this is going to be interesting. I do love Sympathy for the Devil though. Also I know Street Fighting Man. I guess that was played in my house
I didn't know that this is where Make You Feel My Love comes from. I like Adele's version more, of course. I liked this album. I'm probably not going to re-listen, but I understand why it's included on this list
First thought - hilarious to think of this coming out in the 70s. It's giving X-Files but this is way too early for that. I'm going to need to DNF this one. It's just not the vibe.
The length of these song titles is making it very difficult to discern what is actually playing. Aside from Chicago, which ofc I love.
I was surprisingly pleased by this album. No, I will not ever listen to the full 15 minute song. But I am definitely going to save it and listen to it on a day I'm feeling nostalgic. For a one-hit-wonder, this is a really good album.
What?
Somewhere in the middle. Not my jam, but I get why it is here.
There is a lot in here that reminds me of my grandfather. I'm probably not going to listen to it again, but it does make me happy
Is it strange that most of these songs are on Machine Head? Is that a normal thing?
It's not my vibe, but it's definitely good! 3.5
This is so not up my alley that I just can't finish it. I'm sure it is good but it ain't for me.
I remember how good this was when it came out. But I also remember we are supposed to be not down with Arcade Fire
I love the indie sleaze vibes. Making notes for the indie sleaze ML round. I really love New York, I Love You, but not this long version
Classic Madonna cultural appropriation. Love. It.
Holy fuck I forgot about Frozen. What a gem.
I had never heard of Arrested Development before this and I wasn't excited at all but wow, I take that back. I love this
Just not my thing. Objectively, but not subjectively good?
Wow she is talented. I don't know that I would listen to this again, but I did really enjoy it.
It's good but I am probably never going to listen to it again
My parents had this album when I was a kid and I always wanted them to put it on because there was a dog on the cover. Same with Trouble at the Henhouse by Tragically Hip. And I remember loving it. Almost every single song is a save.
I am having a lot of fun listening to this one.
Gotta love a good rock opera. I really wish I had seen this musical. Also, I learned who Meatloaf was from SpiceWorld as a child. So fabulous. Definitely a listen from start to finish situation instead of adding a song to a random playlist. But it brings me joy.
This is really matching our 'indie sleaze' Music League week quite nicely. It's also funny because in 2005 I saw TV on the Radio open for Franz Ferdinand and I had never heard of them and obviously they would have been playing this album. I'm curious to figure out when this became considered to be "one of the greats". Definitely a save for me.
I like this one but I don't find it dramatically different from other albums I have heard, especially on this list. There is nothing that is grabbing me in particular.
Sorry what the fuck is the dandruff song? Lasagna heads? This is wild.
Nick Drake. Not the hero that I wanted today, but the hero that I needed.
I finished it but not for me.
I think any time that something starts with Shining Star, it's gonna be a good time.
I want this to be my vibe but it's just not. Thanks to my high school boyfriend for forever ruining Iron Maiden for me...
Well I mean Piece of My Heart is such a classic. One of my all time favourite songs. But the rest of the album is meh to me
Again, I think another one that is good but just not my own vibe. I would listen to Spellbound.
Bossa nova is not in my regular rotation but I'm really enjoying myself with this.
How have I never heard of Fever Ray? Not only am I one song in and loving this already, it came out in 2009? This was exactly my vibe in 2009. EXACTLY.
I can't believe I am saying this but I am DNFing this one. I remember my parents owning this album and never listening to it so...
Just super not my thing.
I didn't know that these songs were by The Cars. I like them, but I am not a fan of this album.
I did not know that Layla wasn't an Eric Clapton solo. This is definitely an album that my parents would have played when I was growing up. Layla is one of my all time favourite songs.
Very talented obviously. I wish I had the attention span to parse out the individual songs. This album art is sweet though and I can't believe it's from 1970.
Objectively talented, just not my vibe again.
This is a really funny inclusion on this list. Funny gossip but my cousin went on a date with him around this time. I shockingly really enjoyed the lyrics?
This album is definitely an all timer for me. My parents listened to it all the time growing up and I always think to save it and forget. So I'm glad it's come up now.
The inclusion of this album on the list does not surprise me in the slightest
This started out fabulous and then got waaay to offbeat for my taste
I was surprised about how much I enjoyed this.
The way I fucking NEEDED this to be the album today. Holy eff. I remember the hype when this album came out. I remember going to HMV and waiting in line to buy it on release day. It's one of the iconic albums of my youth. I want to give it more than 5
I will always love Stan Getz
Well this is quite a lovely and soothing way to enter the week.
Something about Neil Young's voice is always going to make me happy.
Definitely not what I was expecting, but then again, can you ever predict what a Bowie album is going to sound like if you have never heard it before? I'm not going to keep this in my library, but I can definitely appreciate.
My enduring image of Joy Division is a kid from my high school who was so obsessed with them that I can't separate the two. It makes me really happy to think about Robbie because he was such a wonderful teenager. It's not my kind of music, but it does make me really happy.
Nothing like a little Motown to get the day started
Bad? No. Unmemorable? Yes
Really classic Pink Floyd, but not outstanding Pink Floyd, you know?
Call me a dad but I freaking love Steely Dan. Dirty Work and Do It Again are top songs of all time for me, but this whole album is a forever save
It was really fun but it's not going to go down as an all timer or anything
Man this is so not my vibe. I had to DNF this one
Almost every song is a hit but what is this Across the Universe cover?
