Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jul 27 2026

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 28 2026

Figure 8 is the peak of Elliot Smith’s electric sound while not leaving behind his acoustic strengths. This album is what got me into Elliott Smith. I think when you hear the opening riff of “Junk Bond Trader” for the first time you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. “Son Of Sam,” “Junk Bond Trader,” “LA,” “Stupidity Tries,” and more are excellent showcases of how Elliot’s electrical style that he started experimenting with on XO has reached full form. “Somebody That I Used To Know” has great finger picking similar to something that would’ve appeared on Self Titled or Roman Candle but this time becoming a pop hit. Figure 8 is also full of beautiful ballads including “Easy Way Out,” “Happiness,” and “Better Be Quiet Now.” I think ballads are one of Elliott’s greatest strengths. I also enjoy the instrumental add ons to this album “The Roost” and “The Gondola Man.” Finally “Can’t Make A Sound” is an incredible power ballad that starts off soft before ironically and fittingly building and growing into a massive swarm of different instruments and sounds. I think it’d be hard to make a case that this album is anything less than perfect. 5/5 Favorite Song: Junk Bond Trader

Aug 13 2026

Very solid pop album. The arrangements were a lot more neat than I ever realized. Shoutout @Romal

More Specials by The Specials
Aug 14 2026

I don’t get how people don’t love ska. The trombone here just sounds absolutely amazing and raw. A couple songs are misses: stereotype and i can’t stand it. But then we get towards the end and international jet set is totally different from everything that came before it and totally groovy and a vibe. Most of the songst are really vibey
