1001 Albums Summary

Not my normal kind of music, but this was nice. A good one for dinner

proto punk

A bit samey at times but I can see how influential it must have been

Honestly very good and clearly influenced a lot of what was to come. rip ian curtis

Not necessarily my cup of tea, but crazy production for the time

honestly kinda mid

Quite nice, nothing too crazy or special but a nice synthpop record

Not really my bag and kinda cant understand why its on here - maybe i need to listen to the lyrics closer

hmm, very 'dad' music, but some undeniable bangers on here. can sometimes hear some BCNR in some of the instrumentation

a few good songs, but so much icky lager rock rubbish

Actually quite enjoyed this, will have to give it another listen

not my thing, and i normally like punky records

Really didn't like this one haha

Actually a lot better than I was expecting, albeit a bit of a mixed bag

about as good + influential as it gets

better than i was expecting, similar to that queen 2 album

pretty cool

a bit dated but some nice melodies on here

pretty bad i can't lie, didn't have a good feeling when i saw the album cover

Honestly just sick, always liked this album

was expecting more from this, samples were good but a bit samey overall

a mixed bag, one i should probably listen to again at some point

boring as hell man

idk what to think about this one, there were moments i really enjoyed, but it all became a bit samey

it was ok, liked the guitar soloing

Its honestly a mixed bag, some nice moments but just lacking in something i can't really put my finger on. Doesn't help that it spawned a lot of rubbish

It was good! Will listen again soon

Catchy in moments, full of energy - just lacking a certain something

cool sounds, just got a bit samey

This was actually really good, and I don't think i've listened as an album before - will definitely revisit

Another banger tbf, lots of songs i recognised

very mixed, some of it was cool, some sounded laughably amateurish

just a bit mid, maybe would like it more with a few more listens

virtuoso playing, very sad backstory regarding the bassist, you can hear how talented he is - RIP

these guys are just the best, not even their strongest album and it smokes most bands output

i kinda didn't like this one, preferred the original versions of a lot of these covers. I dont like this kind of vocal delivery

good harmless fun, actually liked it more than i thought

one of the easiest fives yet, this band meant so much to me as a late teen, it was virtually all i listened to for 2 years

Some classics on here for sure, still not strong enough overall to merit a high score

Just got a bit samey, very sexy tho

It was honestly just ok, plenty more records of this genre that deserve to be ahead of this tho

actually enjoyed this quite a bit! love stuff that's a bit weird

awful stuff, why is this on this list? was it even critically acclaimed in 2000?

funky

utterly dire, probably the worst one on this list yet imo. just lacking any sort of soul or human touch. arrogant in a way that i would normally find funny on another metal record, ended up just falling so flat here. first time i'd really listened to eruption since i was like 11 (which i'd assume is the target audience for this album) and its just so.. nothing. just a waste of time

some very sweet songs, just not at the level that he was on at other parts of his career. still a massive soft spot for his work

it was ok, but only ok tbh

This was actually sick, definitely up there with the best of my new discoveries on this list

some cool beats, but i kinda don't get the hype with some of his early stuff

pretty standard indie album, there's a bit of a white stripes influence bleeding through on a few tracks. first track rips

don't really know what i thought, clearly groundbreaking but didn't have the best listening experience

it just fell a bit flat for me, very much the kind of record you see in every UK charity shop and it sounds like it

I can't realistically give this more than a 3 because as a whole, the album had a few misses, but when it hit, it really hit for me. Maybe I'll return to this

Pretty good, hadn't really listened before and might revisit at some point. just something missing that stops it being a 4 for me.

not as good as i remembered, still some absolute gems on there

A classic 'not my cup of tea' album. I really struggle to get on with metal, however this is clearly far ahead of a lot of the metal on this list, but i can't score it higher than a 2

good, but only in places. too long to be a pleasant listening experience

This was actually nice, will listen again

smooth as hell

very very nice, really up my street

just cannot get behind this. a couple of lovely songs in amongst a load of temu radiohead dirge

this was so good?! gotta listen again

ok this was pretty sick honestly

Its ok, a product of its time definitely - golden skans is a banger

I've heard bits and bobs from blur before, i just can't truly get into them. Streets better than oasis but just doesn't grip me.

on paper i should hate this. I still hated bits but also enjoyed parts too

each song in isolation were good, and well performed - it just got a bit samey after a while

a bit dad music and a bit samey after a while. Liked the bass sounds

some classics on here and the production was really crisp considering how old it is

this was pretty fun

Just brilliant, haven't listened to this all the way through before but just loved it. so ahead of its time

something i just couldn't really click with here

i didn't listen hard enough maybe, was busy at work - might be better than what I'm scoring it

Very nice tbf, just short of a 4 i think

i think the thing stopping this from being a 5 is the crappy stock keyboard string sounds, just something i can't not notice

i liked it a lot, would probably appreciate more with a few listens

jazzy

couldn't make my mind up about this one, which means it inevitably becomes a 3 until further notice

it was good, but not anything more than a 3

it was ok but got very samey very fast

some nice playing, I'm just a bit hot and cold over joplins voice

This one is close to my heart because it's my dads favourite band and favourite record in general i think. I've listened to it far more than anyone should have and there's some really nice songs on here. Something holds it back from being a 5

easy listening

very very good

i liked it! felt dated in areas but also contemporary at others.

A bit too cheesy for me..

extra points for lemmy being from stoke

i like jazz

I think i will have to push this up from a 3 to a 4 just based on the strength of the singles and the end song

its just very surface level

just a mediocre weezer lite album. there's this thom yorke interview where he talks about how all american inspired music at that time just ended up sounding like static and i agree.

production was good but the songs weren't there. low 2 or a high 1

it was ok, nice guitar playing

Was expecting very similar to the ACDC record from last week, where its a load of samey hardrock/metal, but was pleasantly surprised by a few of their slower quieter tracks. Will revisit the couple that stuck with me

just pure dad music

pleasant enough, she has a nice voice

for what its worth, i found this entertaining at the very least. I'm fine with a record being goody and tongue in cheek, but they backed it up with some catchy melodies too

its a bloody good debut you have to admit

i'm kinda on the fence about these guys, clearly very influencial on bands like radiohead. I'm very close to giving this a 4 but there's just a little too little variety here for me

one of the easiest 5's on the list

enjoyed this a lot more than i expected

not as good as their 1st

not their best album, still slaps

I was thinking about giving this a 5, but i just think there's something about this album which just doesn't match his earlier work. I think the vocals are slightly weaker in places, but having said that, what a talent. This music meant so much to me when i was a late teen. RIP elliott smith

i don't know how i felt. probably their weakest album but still very good in places

actually really enjoyed this, some of the textures sounded very ahead of their time.

I'm not sure about this one on a first listen, was tempted to go for a 3 but its startlingly good for a late career album

some really cool tracks, with one standing above the rest

pretty damn good, their album 'hats' is even better

a bit too much style over substance, i liked the guitar parts and the singer but the songs felt a bit weak

This was sadly very boring :( also mad to think what sort of stuff bands like the beatles were putting out at this time, like this sounds like its from the stone age compared to songs like tomorrow never knows

it was ok, got a bit samey - wouldnt call it an essential album by any stretch

one easy easy 5 - not a note on this album that doesn't feel exactly where it's supposed to be

another pretty straightforward 5 for me, what a band, what musicianship. Almost beatlesesque in the way that the talent is spread across the group

i actually enjoyed this, screw the haters. felt very british listening to this at work

not enough to grip onto here, i can tell they're talented musicians though. just lacking an earworm
