This is an interesting album, you can hear the punk rock heritage and multiple different influences in Jack’s vocals and the music. Some harder Beatles tracks come to mind in addition to Dead Kennedies. Interesting amalgamation.

This was a very interesting album musically and in terms of genres, extremely broad, fusing a lot of different sounds. Everything from what today would be known as indie rock to funk, the classic hard rock that Zeppelin is known for, as well as really interesting influences like folk songs and cashmere kind of operatic rock. It's just incredible how rich artistically this album is. Experimental
Kind of hard to believe that this record is from 1978. It feels so ahead of its time in every way. Just very interesting and you can hear everybody in here who's been influenced. Daft Punk, freaking just an interesting album
I never really listened to more of this 50’s swing / big band side of Ray Charles as much as the faster rhythm and blues (he was introduced to me in the Blues Brothers). Interesting listen.
This was somehow heartbreaking and scary at the same time. Very dark. Goodbye felt like quite a commanding voice. Simultaneously hopeless and hopeful
One of those bands that you're supposed to know but I can't say I'd ever actually listen to them that much. Enjoyed making their acquaintance and I certainly understand why it's received the status that it has, emblematic of the period
Very in that Blur era of music. Kind of interesting but didn’t really do that much for me.

Inwas surprised this album is from 1978, this was a familiar record in many ways (Eruption, Running with the devil, Ain’t talking bout love), but listening to the full album really put it in more context and I kind of get why it was a forerunner of what 80s hard rock and glam, metal, heavy sound would be like.
This album was cool in that I can't say I had heard Sam Cooke live before. The sound was very raw. You could almost feel the heat and the sweat from the club where he was playing. I was super impressed. The intensity of the performance was something that you don't really hear in the cleaner album versions. I enjoyed this listen

What an oddly anachronistic album, with lots of 80s electronic sounds mixed with that early 2000s indie rock flavour. Kinda liked it, nothing super spectacular but certainly somewhat original

This is a great album, Norah’s voice has always been amazing and the soft tender sounds always make me feel better.
Cool album, interesting production, quite diverse sound. You can tell they’ve worked together with Neil Young, some of it sounds like the Doors, also firmly rooted in the Woodstock era.
Fleet Foxes is basically this album with more effects.
This is a very familiar album I’ve listened to before. I love everything about it, listening to it takes me back to 2005-2010 when I had it in heavy rotation.

Insane record. I found my way to Janis Joplin in middle school, this record takes me back. The vocals are insane, what a unique lady. Everything about this sound just works, diverse album mixing a lot of influences.
The whole early 2000-2010’s indie rock boom is basically this album. I liked it surprisingly much, had a different impression of Morrissey, this sound isn’t as dark as some of his other stuff.

Well this is just a classic I tie back to a few specific summers. Their sound certainly set them apart from other indie rock acts of the time. The songwriting is excellent

This record feels ahead of its time/anachronistic in so many ways. Also really diverse musically from rock to these ethereal electronic sounds. Certainly feels like foundational Bowie material.
Sounds like early 90’s seattle sound. Another one I’ve known about but never really listened to. Not quite my cup of tea but can appreciate their niche and artistry. The vocal harmonies are interesting and uncharacteristically musical for my image of this scene.
What an oddly theatrical/musical album. Feels story first, doesn’t fit into any genre.

Really enjoyed this album, I like Sting, haven’t really listened to the Police beyond the obvious hits but they have a pretty broad range and this record is very diverse musically, even mixing in jazz sounds with some of the more electronic synth/pop-rock sounds. Really interesting and occupies a musically unique space for sure.
What a strange mixture of sounds, brit-pop + seattle grungey at times. They have their own sound and never listened to anything but that big hit they had but this is a lot more diverse than I thought. They have a unique pocket foreshadowing some of the early 2000’s indie rock as well
Feels like a 90’s continuation of the Clash and the Sex Pistols but softer around the edges. And some the Doors-like organs in there. Never really listened to them outside of their hits, quite enjoyed this album, musically diverse and interesting. Curious ska-like finish 😅
Best served in a convertible on a highway
A band I’ve known about but never teally spent any time getting to know. Very interesting record, feels a bit like Massive Attack but more ethereal and shrouded in Nordic mysticism. Very enjoyable.

One of the first hip hop records I remember. Everything about that Soulquarians era speaks to me, deeply ingrained in my middle school years, absolutely love it.
I’d never heard of Fred Neil, really cool voice certainly has a spot in the canon of singers of the time

Theatrical, mystical, a little unsettling and ahead of its time. Uniquely singular entity this Kate Bush, interesting to hear the broader repertoire outside the hits.

Somehow listening to this it felt like a natural but harder continuation of Girl Power that the Spice Girls started in the 90s. I was in middle school when this record came out and I'd never thought of it in that context before. Full of bangers and I'd never thought how much Beyonce really stands out on these records until now.

It's jazz but it's.. punk jazz? Definitely one of the stranger, noisier records I've ever heard :D must have been a lot of fun to record, but makes for a pretty intense listen.
Never really listened to this side of Clapton. Solid rhythm and blues record.
