Album Summary
A Hard Day's Night is the third studio album by the English rock band the Beatles, released on 10 July 1964 by Parlophone, with side one containing songs from the soundtrack to their film of the same name. The American version of the album was released two weeks earlier, on 26 June 1964 by United Artists Records, with a different track listing that included selections from George Martin's film score. In contrast to the Beatles' first two albums, all 13 tracks on A Hard Day's Night were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, showcasing the development of their songwriting partnership. The album includes the song "A Hard Day's Night", with its distinctive opening chord, and "Can't Buy Me Love", both transatlantic number-one singles for the band. Several of the songs feature George Harrison playing a Rickenbacker 12-string electric guitar, a sound that was influential on the Byrds and other groups in the folk rock/jangle pop movement.

Es que los beatles son mu buenos macho que hacemos.
Never liked early Beatles records. Totally different band. This is an album for teenage girls.
Usually not a Beatles fan but this album was ok, i didnt feel the need to skip any songs There were a couple of songs that i really liked and the rest were nice
Finally get a Beatles album. This is the best of the pre-Rubber Soul albums and their first of all original songs. Yes, they are still writing love songs but how can you not appreciate the beauty that is If I Fell or And I Love Her? Songwriting brilliance on display, and this is the period where John and Paul's output was insane.
one of the worst beatles albums, goes bottom of current ranking
I'm not a big Beatles guy, but this exceeded my low expectations. I can see how this popped off at the time.
Sometimes the Beatles songs are so perfect that they’re almost boring
Favorite Song: Any Time At All Least Favorite: You Can’t Do That
A good Beatles album but not one of my absolute favorites
Fun listen. Slightly repetitive songs. But revolutionary for its time. Saved songs; A Hard Day’s Night, If I Fell, I’m Happy Just To Dance With You; Tell Me Why Score: 3/5
This is a pile of crap. Okay, not a big pile but still a pile. I get that there is a dedicated group of people who thought these shallow love songs were great. They are not. A Hard Day’s Night and Can’t Buy Me Love are catchy, energetic and lyrically shallow. I get this is the first album that is Lennon/McCartney but the majority of songs are formulaic - well played but all verse chorus verse with Harrison’s Rickenbacker doing much of the heavy lifting. I guess if you like folk rock, loved the Everly Brothers and generally were an aficionado of late 50’s rock n roll, you’d spend time playing this but I’d venture to say that most people can’t hum the melodies of more than half the record. I get that some say this is the Beatles zenith- their best record. Rational humans know it is not. It’s sugar with no substance and looking back which is often dangerous, highlights the weakness of this record. 2/5
Kanskje litt nostalgi her, men koser meg med det altså.
Bra
Sterk 4
Beetle
Still the Beatles, but it gets so much better than this
Ok
CLASSIC!
Probably very inspired and revolutionary back in it's day, but I don't resonate with the feeling or style. It's obviously very well made though!
Me gustó alguna
Some cracking songs on this. The boys starting to mature in their song writing which really starts to show over the next few albums. People need to remember that this was still the early 60s. If they had tried to release Revolver at this time no-one would have bought it as the world wasn't ready.
The shape of The Beatles to come. There really is a noticeable jump in quality here compared to the last two albums. Considering that this was the first album of theirs that was entirely written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the consistency is more apparent compared to the cover-fest of the first two albums. There’s a bunch more songs here that I consider great, and I’m glad that duds are more of a minority here now. There’s just more soul here, and damn, they really did hit it off here. The beginning of the British Invasion. The songs here, while influenced by existing Rock & Roll sounds, feel more creative. A Hard Day’s Night is a memorable and catchy opening track, and it’s the best opening track they have made so far. I Should Have Known Better is one of the better harmonica songs they’ve made because of how The Beatles-coded it is. It feels less derivative of blues type of shit, and damn, I like that. I could say the same for If I Fell. It feels a bit more folk-pop-y, and there’s just a bit more intimacy here that I wish the past two albums delved into more. Yes, their sophomore did have one, but it was more of a cover than anything. Not saying it was bad, of course. I’m Happy Just To Dance With You is a fun track, and I genuinely love how groovy that bass is here. And I Love Her is my favorite song here, and hell, it might be one of my favorite Beatles songs. It’s simple, and it’s intimate. I loved Kurt Cobain’s cover of this song, so listening to the original made me appreciate it even more. There’s just something magical about this song, y’know? Tell Me Why and Can’t Buy Me Love are so fun, man. They are just full of energy, and it’s infectious. I thought Any Time At All was popular, but I just found out it isn’t as popular as I thought it was. Yes, it’s still famous, but I feel like I’ve heard this song millions of times before. That chorus really just hooks you in with that tenacity when he says “Any Time At All.” I think the last third of this album was the weakest, but I’ll still give it some credit. I’ll Cry Instead is pretty good, but it doesn’t feel as good as the rest of the album. Feels a bit derivative, and it doesn’t really do anything special for me to have a strong reaction to it. Things We Said Today also suffers from that problem, but I actually really like it. I love how the song develops, and I love that bluesy step down when he says “Someday.” When I Get Home is also pretty good, and I like how it starts. Not all that interesting for me, though. You Can’t Do That is alright. Can’t think of too much to say about it, but it’s just more of the same thing. I’ll Be Back is a nice way to end this album. I think I’ve heard this song before too. Overall, a step-up from With The Beatles and Please Please Me. Paul McCartney and John Lennon are great songwriters, and this album shows that. Of course, I think it’s still far from the creativity they will do in the future, but without considering that, this is just a solid listen. Good album. Fav track: And I Love Her Least fav: I’ll Cry Instead
Early Beatles aren't the best Beatles I prefer the psychedelic stuff compared to early 60 s rock n roll. However it's not bad nice beats and lyrics yap along to it title track and singles are good then rest ticks over.
Memorable songs I would probably revisit: I Fell Otherwise it still sounds fresh, although a little dated at the same time. But overall it is not something I would go back to or rather listen to regularly.
Not quite my taste. Couldn't bring myself to like it. Felt so slow and it made me sleepy but some songs were not that bad.
Ранние Битлз восхитительны, так же как и поздние, но по другому, прекрасная музыка, каждая песня состоит из таких великолепных мелодий, что заедает на всю жизнь, очень рок-н-рольная пластинка
OG Beatles fun - im sure it was wild at the time as they paved the way for so many others. Solid music
(Decent 7/10) Right away, this is markedly better than With The Beatles. It opens up with the title track, which is a good fast paced rock tune with a catchy chorus and easy to sing along to melody. The guitars are good and fun, and it's just a delightful tune. Another good song is "Can't buy me love" which is also upbeat and infectious. "And I love her" is a fantastic McCartney ballad, with sweet lyrics and a nice relaxing mood. All of these songs are originals, which makes this the first Beatles record to be entirely original compositions, because of this all of the songs are noticeably better to me, and just overall more enjoyable. It's still basic pop-rock and that's really all there is to it, but it's short and fun and I would definitely listen again if the mood strikes me.
Bäst är A hard day's night, xI should have known, And I love her, Any time at all
People will try to tell you that the early Beatles are frivolous or whatever, and that they'd have just been a fad without the growth they'd later show. Those people are dumb, and all you need is one listen to this album to realize that in their early years, the Beatles were clearly already one of the most exciting bands on the planet.
Possibly my 6th favourite Beatles album - but still a banger.
relentlessly wonderful set of gung-ho pop songs about being kind of an asshole to the women you're seeing. the meanness of the lyrics, combined with rollercoaster twists and turns of lennon and mccartney's songwriting, make this sticky without being sugary. good songs good lads!
Still unbelievably fun to listen to after more than 60 years! Lennon and McCartney are going to write far more mature (and, one could argue, interesting) music on the albums that follow, but this is the one that proved they could do it by themselves, with no need to cover the great songwriters and performers that came before them.
One of the finest early rock albums. Its importance is not just historical: the songs remain excellent, and the album has barely aged. The Beatles were already moving beyond the limitations of their original sound.
On the generic side for the Beatles. No bad songs but nothing that sticks. Too love based for me to really connect to it. Good background music
It's the beatles but the early stuff is hard to rate for me...sounds really old in the end.
lots of fun to hear this again...
A masterpiece.
The Beatles – A Hard Day's Night (1964) On Day 304, this album pleasantly defied low expectations set by their earlier material, serving as the true turning point where The Beatles broke away from generic period tropes and found their distinct voice. Leaving behind outside covers to deliver an entirely original tracklist gave the project undeniable charisma and sharp focus. The energetic production and infectious rhythm section kept the momentum high, but the intricate vocal layering was the true highlight throughout. "If I Fell" stood out as the absolute peak a gorgeous, tender display of two-part vocal harmony and complex chord phrasing. While polished commercial juggernauts like "Can't Buy Me Love" felt slightly less compelling, almost every other cut fired on all cylinders, carried by John Lennon's vocal grit and the sparkling drive of the band's arrangements. An engaging, charismatic turnaround that marks the true beginning of their greatness. A well-earned 4/5.

wow, a really nice album. not sure that I have ever heard the whole thing. overall not a bad song on this record. maybe a 4 or 5
Early Beatles, I guess a lot of people think this is a stand out early beatles album I think it's ok. Crazy that in only two years they'd be making rubber soul and revolver...
13 songs, 30 minutes. I mean, pop perfection. These kids might have a big future.
I can’t imagine how this collection of tuneful, harmonious, melancholy, angry bangers could be improved upon.
First Beatles in the shuffle for me, and it’s fitting it’s from their boy band era. The harmonies, punchy songwriting and George Harrison’s stunning guitar work are all hinting at what’s to come. The album cracks along at a steady pace to a 30 minute run time that is just a bit too short.
Its the beatles.
One of the few Beatles albums I hadn’t heard nor committed to memory, because I mistakenly thought their film soundtracks were just re-sequenced originals and covers from other albums. No idea. As such, I got to hear some of this fresh and while it’s not my fav of all time or something, I Should Have Known Better holds a special place in my heart. A ridiculous leap forward for the loveable lads, going from still pretty good originals and interpretations to writing their own standards. It’s off to the races from here - imagine if an accident or personality conflict derailed their ascent and the last we ever heard of them was the Money cover?
Most bands have to try incredibly hard to write a good song. The Beatles have to try incredible hard to write a bad song. This album doesn't really showcase the incredible heights that the band reached in both popularity and shear quality, but it really drives home the point that there isn't a bad Beatles song.
It's... fine. It just feels so dated and honestly, kind of boring. The track Hard Days Night was pretty good. A few hours after listening, I am struggling to remember anything about the rest of the record. At least it's short and sweet.
not my favorite beatles album but still holds a lot of charm
Day 74 So we have this crap on the list and not One Direction? This is Dimery we're talking about, I should've known better Fav track: Things We Said Today
Hard to remember what a phenomenon the Beatles were were back in the day. Listening to this now it does sound rather tame and I can hear the Beatles own influences in this - definitely touches of Buddy Holly in there. As they paved the way for so much that was to come it needs to be seen as an important document but not their best album
perfect
Was excited to get my first Beatles album, but everything on here just sorta blended together for me. Rather underwhelming.
8/10 good album loved some of the big hits but outside of that I wasn’t fully sold some mid in that overall decent album I would listen to it again easily
The very first boy band
I mean, d e jo the beatles, de har ein spesiell magi, ikkje heilt 5 stjerner men ikkje langt ifra.
Not a big beatles fan
I was thinking this might this be a rare Beatles non-5? The earlier stuff i find a bit sappier. But it is still too good. The energy in the music is just so undeniable, and even the earlier stuff has decent variety.
3 stars I enjoy the movie enough but this album has never been a favorite. I listened on vinyl and found it humorous that the notes say the second half were songs that weren’t in the film but that it would have been a shame for them to not be released to the public. The second half is clearly the weaker side and only had about 2 good songs. But all in all a mediocre Beatles album is a fine listen. Side 1 rocks and has some great work. As an album it has flaws. On the bottom half of my Beatles album ranking.
Jeg hører lite på pre-Rubber Soul Beatles. A Hard Day's Night er ait. Håper det får en bedre stereomix som de nyere skivene, så blir det litt hyggeligere å høre med headset.
A hard day’s shite more like
Fine
Mostly very good
Not my favorite beetles, but it's still the beetles
If there's a better pop album out there I don't think I've heard it
I didn’t expect this Beatles record to be in here, but I’m not mad. It’s hard for me to separate their albums, having consumed so much of their music at once. This isn’t my fave Beatles record, but does contain some of my fave Beatles tracks. Listening to this after The Who, and this record came a year after, mainly just highlights the discrepancy between the two. There is no Beatles album in existence that doesn’t have at least a modicum of magic, and this one is no different.
Probably my favorite Beatles album.
Even better than I imagined after looking at the track list - more a transition record for them than I remembered. There are some old-school bits, which are fine on their own terms but not "my" Beatles. But: Can't Buy Me Love? Things We Said Today? That's just A+. And a lot more of the record heads in that direction.
A perfect album. Peak Beatles. Every track fantastic. My personal faves: If I Fell, And I Love Her
These are perfect songs--just imagine hearing them in 1964. The movie is a hoot too.
just ok
опять эти дагестанцы
Didn’t like that much not my type of music, it’s just too simple and I don’t get the hype the vocals are annoying at times and I just don’t like it
Sympa mais sans plus, je n'ai pas retenu de musiques dessus.
Well it’s the Beatles. Prefer later stuff but you can’t ignore a great catalogue of songs in this album
This has never been among my favorite Beatles albums and listening again today, it was obvious that wouldn't change. The title track and Can't Buy Me Love are still great though.
Brings back memories
I LOVE THE BEATLES!!! And I love her is such a phenomenal song. This whole album is just banger after banger.
Not my favorite beatles album but still a meaningful listen.
zzzz
Det är inte Revolver direkt! Gillar Beatles mer när dom är mindre klämkäck.
Trååååk pallade ej men ja dom är ju bra egentligen
great
Love to all the 1 star hipsters.
6/5
I have always been underwhelmed by the Beatles, but these songs are as close to perfect as it gets. No happy-feelgood-kitsch, no stuffy experimental overload, just one straight to the point 3-minute-pop-banger after the other.
Great from start to finish. Not quite as good as what they went on to do later but still a really good listen.
It's very cool to hear the Beatles write blues rock pop hits. The hits are crunchy and fun, and obviously insanely impressive for 1964. I simply didn't enjoy the other tracks enough to give this a 4.
really very charming. i think if there was a beatles album to leave off the list it'd be this one. i'm sure there's a page long write-up about how this specific album fundamentally changed the course of all music, but listening to it it's only just nice and catchy. favorite song is Any Time At All. strong 3
Rating: 8/10 I've always considered Rubber Soul to be the start of my love of Beatles albums, while earlier Beatles doesn't do it for me, but I honestly don't think I've given A Hard Day's Night as an album a fair enough shake. It has a particularly strong A side packed to the brim with bops, but as a whole it makes for a really short and enjoyable listen. The original songwriting and performances here really show the genius that is The Beatles ability to write some of the best and most memorable pop rock songs in music. I could probably listen to this endlessly cause it's such an earworm
you know it's remarkable to me that i haven't really listened to a lot of beatles lately. the last one i listened to was way back in january of 2025... and now we've got another one after all this time. this is their third album release, and after their first two poppy albums, this one is a bit more on the rock 'n roll side. this is also the first album to feature music entirely written by the members themselves. many of the tracks on the record would feature in the movie of the same name. a focal point of the album, which many music historians and reviewers talk about is george harrison's guitar playing, which influenced other bands with their own guitar-focused music. early beatles has a formula. it's an iconic formula, a trademark formula, but a formula nonetheless. riding drums, guitar-strummin and near-perfect harmonization and singing in unison from john and paul, singing about hand-holdin' and sweet sweet lovin'. there's really no denying that this is a generally quality album, as expected from these guys, but we really haven't reached that era yet where their most legendary songs were written and performed. it's great rock 'n roll though, more than enough tracks made for singing to yourself or wailing out at a karaoke bar. the cause for beatle-mania is pretty clear, and it's not just how cute these british boys were.
Epic and the beggining of Pop
Well it’s the Beatles isn’t it. Personally I find this album is just at the right point of pop genius before they became more experimental and good if different ways. Innocent yet knowing. Hook-laden, yet in places complex. Of course much is borrowed and improved upon, but that’s the nature of popular music. Has to be a 5/5 for me. Very enjoyable.
What's not to love? My favorite band, making my favorite music. Every song is catchy and pleasant. I grew up loving the movie and the music is icing on the cake. This is the best band in history. I know some may find it old fashioned compared to today's rock, but I still love it for it's innocence. We need more songs about love. This is a time capsule thats captures brilliance in a bottle.
I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and listened to The Beatles, but I see why they’re so popular. This was a very good album.
Early Beatles fucks hard. Just like they always have
Owned for years. Here we go...well over 50 days in and here is my first Beatles album (i'm assuming there are at least 4 more ro come). I love The Beatles! Who doesn't!!? However i generally prefer later.....Rubber Soul onwards...Beatles to the moptop=Beatlemania era. But this is joyous. Obviously the title track is great. I have alwsys enjoyed If I Fell and And I Love Her. I'd forgotten the beauty of Things We Said Today and I'll Be Back. A lovely little piece of history!!
4.5/5
