Pretty good. Easy going. Nice arrangements. 8.
Some would say quintessential Jack White but I would say typical. An okay 3.
Very unrelatable and very bland.
A classic. I'm very familiar with this album but not one I listen to very often.
Solid 3. There are better Rolling Stones albums out there.
A real chore of an album to get through. I know QOTSA from the singles but was never inticed to listen to a full album before. I get that they are a highly rated band and live act but I just can't find the will the enjoy this.
OK album
Happy to see this pop up. It's decent and very low-key
Not for me
Not bad, well suited for background music. Familiar with this great man's hits but I rarely would listen to a full album from the back catalogue, so I appreciated getting this one today.
Very good. Easy 5.
Two standout and genuinely good songs on this album. Sound of Someone... and Chartered Flight.
Other than that, it's very much a British middle-class public school poncy dinner party experiment with way too much cello.
Given a 3 but only because there are two actually good tracks, other than that it's a 2.
Very good album, will listen again. Good songwriting, musicianship and nicely recorded.
Lovely.
Not bad, not sure I will re-listen, hope to get another queen album in the future.
Was impressed with the Roger Taylor vocals on that one track, thought it was Robert Plant for a minute
Heard this one before, good album. Amazing for a 1969 release though.
Often heard Tim Buckley's name mentioned, never listened before. I believe his other work is more folky, but I hated this.
74 mins long. An entire CD worth of music... some of it is great (the singles) and the rest is fairly mediocre.
Not great, kinda get what he's trying to do but it's more a piss take to an imaginary film soundtrack then a homage.
You wouldn't ordinarily listen to this. Felt the same about the penguin cafe album.
It's a great album. I tried to get into early Bowie before and I never could, but I really enjoyed this and happy to out it into rotation for the occasional re-listen.
This is great, really enjoyed this album. Great for late night listening.
Have not listened to this in 20 years. Forgot how great an album it is.
Not for me, though wildfires was a good track. Very hip coffee shop music.
I'm not a jazz enthusiast but I dip in occasionally and this is a decent album.
It's a live album, it feels like the same jam all the way through. It just didn't suit my mood this morning. Maybe you would enjoy it if you like the doors.
I don't enjoy listening to "Rock and Roll", always makes me feel strangely unnerved.
That said, I appreciate that Little Richard was a great performer and I can see why kids in the fifties would dig it. Not for me.
Hip hop isn't my thing but I appreciate the chance to give this a go. Sounds ok, wouldn't rush back to relisten
I hated this band as a teenager when it came out and this album isn't my cup of tea at all. But being older and wiser, I can kind of appreciate the humour in it a bit more.
It's still a 2 because it kind of annoys me musically, really jars to listen into if you are just not into whimsical stuff.
The Cardigans have at least two 4 star albums (long gone and Gran Turismo are excellent) but I just don't get early Cardigans stuff.
I don't think I really listened to this since it came out in the early 2000s. In the years that passed, I never considered myself much of a Coldplay enthusiast and therefore no need to revisit it. It's better than I remember.
It's not for everyone, I totally understand the "Coldplay are bland" jibes and how insufferable Chris Martin became, but this is still a very enjoyable and well written album. Good, simple, thoughtful, minimalistic and well-crafted songs in my view.
I'm a big fan of the title track, I forgot how great that is. Never thought I would give it a 4 but here we are. Miles better that I remember.
I like a couple of Sonic Youth albums already, never listened to this before. Its okay. It's a hard listen if you suffer from panic attacks but an easy one if you are well used to Sonic Youth
I've always being a greatest hits hendrix type listener so I'm thankful to get an excuse to revisit the back catalogue.
I don't know what I was expecting as I hear Frank Ocean is highly rated and critically acclaimed.
This just didn't cut it for me, felt like any other smoozy R&B album. There were some highlights, like the arrangement in Pyramids but even then it just felt full of those tired modern R&B tropes that is omnipresent in today's popular music.
I think if I heard this album on a late night I might feel different about it. The second half of the album is much better than the first half so at least it started to get better.
Well recorded for a very early 80s pink album. I totally get the energy here and I reckon the gigs were hardcore. Not my scene and while I don't really enjoy this, going to give it a 3 because did actually help me focus on some work tasks this morning.
Very typical of its time but in a way it's unfair to lump the manics in with the rest of Brit Pop.
I saw this band live a couple of times in the late 90s and they were good gigs but I was never a massive fan. Same with this album.
It belongs in the list, for sure. Some real classics here, you could say some tracks are a little bland but can't deny the influence this had on other artists over the years.
I'm a big fan of their bassist, a real understated groove, great musicianship
This album is beautiful and raw. Genuinely a masterpiece.
It sounds incredible. There's a real live sounding energy to this album that I've never got from any other Pumpkins albums or any other band.
Even as a double LP, I never felt there was any filler as every song has a purpose, even the bsides are worth checking out. Also never felt I had to listen to this album in it's entirety. I could easily play disc one or two as separate albums.
Thirty-three is my one of my favourite songs of all time. Other highlights are Ruby, Muzzle, Bodies, XYU, Love and Ode to No One. But it's all good. It's the best of the nineties.
This felt like a very quick album. Enjoyed it as it's a very inoffensive collection of songs. She's a great songwriter.
Some people love the blues, not for me. That said, very well recorded album and some great guitar licks.
I'll give it a 3 out of respect as it is a decent blues album even if I don't particularly like the blues.
It was OK, actually it made made go back and listen to a few tracks from stoosh and paranoid and sunburnt.
Some singles and some fillers.
My perception of this band and album is based on when it was released in early 2000s. I liked the single "Take me out" but I found the whole album too energetic all the time.
I always thought they were a little pretentious and arty too. But I recently read Stuart Braithwaite (of Mogwai) who talks of Alex Kapranos in a really good light and how pivotal he was in the Glasgow music scene and the support he gave Mogwai and other local Scottish bands through his promotion work. Really impressed by that.
Rating a 3 as it's not a stellar album for me but I appreciate that it's trying to do something different and I'm glad they got a break after years in the business.
Tom Petty is great easy listening but all you need is a greatest hits.
Good overall
Whatever I have to say, it's already been said. It couldn't be anything other than 5 stars.
Pleasantly surprised for this recommendation as I would never given it the time otherwise. I knew the weight and this wheels on fire already. Last song is great. It's a bit heavy on the clanky piano, but it's a solid 3 nonetheless.
Very repetitive and ultimately boring. Shame cause it is nicely recorded and has some interesting sounds.
Solid 3 but the album kind of fizzled out at the end. It's really remarkable how much it sounds like modern indie spiky guitar music, obviously a massive influence 20 to 30 years after its release.
Always been a fan of Paul Wellers solo work so nice to revisit the Jam every now and again.
One of my favorite albums of all time already.
It's Steely Dan.
OK, I judged this by the cover immediately and I was just not on the mood for whatever this was. I wasn't surprised at all by how it sounded.
That said, for some reason, I loved it. Right off the bat, I felt this guy is absolutely taking the piss and I'm here for it.
I'm going to give it a wildcard 4 as it just worked for me tonight and I'll come back to it again.
Oh God, this is not for me. It is smooth Jazz. I feel like it's getting a free pass because it's Steely Dan related.
Technically very well recorded. But why was it recorded? This is not an album I needed to listen to.
Just really juvenile stuff here. Possibly entertaining if you are a 15 year old egdelord in 2001.
I read the less favourable reviews before I started this album. Those along with my initial preconception of Rufus Wainwright based on one song I heard and didn't like, I felt this was going to be a chore.
Happy to say again, I was incorrect..pleasantly surprised with this album. It's giving a good 4, enough for me to revisit it in a few months.
Some of these tracks sound a bit Broadway but it's not all bad. Never realised how much he sounds like Thom Yorke until I read the reviews.
Live albums aren't really my bag, but this sounds like a brilliant gig. Loads of energy. I probably won't revisit it but happy to have had the chance to listen to it. Hoping another Sam Cooke album comes up in this list.
Another good Queen album. Probably their masterpiece.
This is one of the benefits of this project. I spent years ignoring Prince and just not getting it.
This is nothing short of 5 stars. Incredible really. Amazing production, great arrangements and the best musicianship.
Probably is a very important album for a a bunch of folks but not for me. I feel bad rating it as a poor album but at the end of the day it's an album designed to sell millions for a specific audience. I'll never listen to this again, it's just so draining have to get my through this absolute dirge.
It's R & B production by numbers and it doesn't matter that the girls have great voices. Its not getting a one out of respect for it's target audience.
This record probably holds the most amount of Sinatra that any one person would ever need. Glad to have the chance to listen to it and it's not terrible (great voice obviously) but its very Sinatra and it all really sounds the same doesn't it?
Essential NIN. Aggressive and raw.
Started with an open mind and tried to be objective listening to this.
Its blues, I'm not a fan but it's not a bad album. It's definitely not a great one though. 3 all round here.
This is very inoffensive stuff. I kind of like it for the part of the day that needs focus.
This kind of music is most at risk from generative AI. And I think we should be appreciating these original albums more, no matter how bland or safe or coffee-house they may appear!
Another classic. Really enjoyed it again today.
Solid prog rock and this is the first time I've had an opportunity to sit down and listen to Yes.
I don't believe I’ve ever listened to a less inspiring and more unauthentic album in my entire life.
Deathly boring and I hope there is no more of this ilk on the list to come.
This is not a criticism of the vocalist (he can obviously sing rock/blues well enough) but the recording and production style of the vocals are genuinely awful and make it difficult to listen to.
Best song on the album is the last one, better vocal style and not a bad song arrangement at all.
Blues for the sake of it. Everyone involved here to blame... Songwriters and production team alike. For shame.
I've never listened to a police record apart from hearing the obvious hits on the radio.
This is OK, at times it is a bit too quirky and frantic to properly enjoy. Great musicianship all round. Is it really reggae? Not for me to say. Bit cheeky calling it white reggae as if they own that genre but then again its not for me to say.
Anyway, I'm fascinated by this band despite not really knowing their music. The drama and politics in the band would make for a great documentary. Maybe there is one, I haven't checked.
Very generic and very much of its time. I guess you have to put some Dusty Springfield album on the list, she has a great voice after all and is a very well known singer.
Glad to get the opportunity to have a listen, bit I won't be putting it back on any time soon. There's a couple of really good songs that I recognised.
I was looking forward to this when I saw it pop up as my daily album but felt a little disappointed. I was hoping for a 5 star album but I think 3 is appropriate here.
Hopefully better talking heads album to come.
Its OK, standard rock really. I always associated Rod Stewart with the blue rinse parade and that sailing song. It's ok album nonetheless and gives me a better impression of Rod Stewart's popularity.
Loved this, very good Bowie record and I'm not too familiar with this a Bowie incarnation so it was a pleasure to listen to.
One of my favourite Beatles albums. Incredible sounding for its time and it still sounds so good today.
I had no expectations for this album, turns out I knew a lot of the songs already.
It is new wave but it is grounded by good guitar work and well written songs.
Good stuff
I love folk but I find this a bit too sweet for my liking. Baez's voice is very shrill and I really couldn't enjoy it as my eyes kept twitching for some reason.
Just not my cup of tea but grateful to give her a shot as I'm aware many view her as legend.
Some of the guitar work is nice though.
Excellent album. One I revisit quite often. Courtney gets all the attention but great musicianship all round from Eric, Patty and Melissa.
Love isn't a great singer in the traditional sense but the vocals sound great here and absolutely essential in defining that Hole aesthetic.
The songs are well written and the production is great. Not a perfect album as the is a couple of skips but a very good one.
Consistent album in that there is no real highs or lows in it. I was expecting a bit more given the reverence some folks have for this particular RS album so slight disappointed that's it isn't amazing
Massive album back in the day and it doesn't sound dated at all to me. The singles are great but the rest of the album is so-so.
Fairly run of the mill for a Neil Young album.
Not bad, not my cup of tea really but listenable.
There is a lot of love for this album out there. For a casual listener like me, I think it lacks the vibrancy or interesting arrangements to make it a great album... It's a bit dull to my ears.
Perhaps the lyrics hit well with fans, I am not a great active listener and when I fall in love with albums it's because of the sonic quality or interesting song arrangement or top tier production. I guess this album doesn't hit any of those high points for me unfortunately
I was going to say all the songs are very samey, but that's just the vibe of this album. The tracks tie in really well together. And it's only 35 mins so doesn't feel like a repetitive chore for me to listen to.
Gaye has an incredible voice and there is so much heart and soul poured into it. The bass playing is sublime and overall musicianship is quality as you would expect from a Motown act.
Im happy to rate it 5 because of its musicianship, production and recording quality. He doesn't need to mention Jesus so much but I guess that's his thing.
If I was 16 in 1976, you would have to threaten me at gunpoint to listen to this. Looks kind of disco but I guess it more soul/fun. Know some of their hits from the radio but would never sit down to listen to it.
Let's give it a go... And I'm immediately a little disappointed that I don't enjoy this. I thought it would be a fun up-tempo 40 mins or so.
It is very bland and very dry. There is good musicianship but that's par for the course with soul and funk groups. What sets this apart is that it is so dull. No interesting arrangements. Nothing memorable from this LP at all.
Couldn't wait for it to end. In summary: very lame and utterly uncool. I genuinely don't understand the high average rating for this album in this project.
Not a perfect album for me, while it has amazing voice and lovely guitar work, sometimes the songs fall a bit flat. But it's the only studio Jeff Buckley album and it's has a real soul and an amazing performance. 5/5
Although it's not an album I listen to often (not on last ten years anyway)..it's an important one for me when it was released. A daily listen for me in the weeks after it came out.
Its really refreshing to read this today and I'm reminded how great this is. 5/5
Only really knew North Country Boy formally as it was on one of those Shine britpop indie compilations. Never inspired me to learn more about Charlatans.
This is actually a very good album, one of the best British indie albums I would say. Sorry I didn't listen to it back in the nineties now. Probably missed some good gigs too as I had some mates into them and I just didn't get it. Ah well.
It was so-so until that last track delivered 18 mins of hot buttered soulful waffle. 2/5
Child in time was great, I don't think I was I was in the mood for the rest of this today. Very screamy. OK album
Great for a 1968 release but overshadowed by everything else released since then.
I didn't find much enjoyment in it but it didn't overly annoy me. I think 2/5 is fair.
Batshit, but good
Well ahead of its time. Not my cup of tea and there's definitely a sense of making music for fun rather than fame here and have to appreciate that.
I've seen Radiohead live a couple of times, great band. Big fan of OK Computer, and Kid A and The Bends and some of the later albums.
But this one album in particular has never clicked with me.
I continue to find minimal enjoyment in listening to it. Couple of great tracks in it like pyramid song and might be wrong that pull the album up to a 3/5
