Sign 'O' The Times
PrinceNot a patch on Purple Rain.
Not a patch on Purple Rain.
Outwith Remasters this is the only "proper" Zeppelin album I actually own and it's a classic. Rightfully hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time.
Dull
Wasn't sure what to expect with this but it has just the right mix of "normal" mixed with Enos weirdness. Really liked it and will listen to his next album as recommended by Iain C
I love this album. Apart from brainstorm interlude and drive you home, which I tend to skip each song has something which always makes me want to listen again. Nick McCabes guitar work is outstanding. Checkout the acoustic version of On Your Own. Brilliant version which is good to play along to.
Boring, generic pop music
2 stars. One for Chicago and one for trying something different.
Not my favourite REM album, but it's up there. A fine follow up to Life's Rich Pageant, which is a better overall album, but lacks the big singles that Document has.
I've tried numerous times over the years to get into the Pixies but something just doesn't click with me. Listened to this a few times and there is nothing that makes me want to listen to it again.
Why is this on the list and INXS - Kick isn't? It's far superior in every way to this bland effort.
Not my bag.
Starts with an epic track and although it never reaches those heights again there are some really good songs on this album. Will definitely give it some more listens.
Not my favourite Cure album, but probably the easier listen out of their earlier stuff. A Forest is the standout track that is still a regular in their live set.
As wacky and zany as I'd expected. Everyone knows Rock Lobster and there are some catchy tunes on this album, but at times I just wish they'd leave the singing to Cindy and Kate as I find Fred's vocal irritating
tennie-bob pop
Classic singer with a great voice but not my cup of tea.
Legendary soul singer, but not a style i can listen to for long
Don't mind a bit of swing, but this is just awful. Dull and boring and goes nowhere. Gave up half-way through zzzzz
Loved this album ever since I heard it as a kid in the car going on holiday. There are some great individual songs but as an album it flows beautifully and only really lets up when it gets to "Why don't you write me" and the cover of "Bye Bye Love"
Never liked Come on Eileen when it came out so put me off ever listening to this album, but there are some decent songs on this, although not enough that would make me actively want to listen to it.
Enjoyed this album at the time, but haven't listened to it for years. In hindsight, outwith the main singles there are a couple of good songs here, "My Oh My" and a good cover of "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye", but a lot of it is pretty dull sounding now.
Not a musical style I'll actively listen to (too shmooove for me), but Sade does have a great soulful voice.
Dull as 3 day old dishwasher
The mans a legend, but his music is not for me.
This is just nonsense!
Not as good as Elephant
Only managed to listen once and sounds alright. Needs further listens.
Grime, shmime! Really hate this stuff!
Grew up listening to this era of Beatles so this album had a major influence on my musical taste.
Can hear the influences this has had on other artists but none of the individual songs grab me and make we want to listen again.
My least favourite S&G album. Apart from the main well known hits, the rest is a bit dull.
A classic album with some Queen classic songs. Some of which are even better live than on record, Love of My Life being one of them.
It's The Byrds Jim, but not as we know it :-(
A couple of interesting songs which maybe enough to warrant checking out other albums, but this tends to become a bit background listening
Liked Wood Beez back in the day and there are a couple of decent tunes here but nothing that matches up with the big hit.
Classic British metal with some classic tunes
Thankfully this passed me by in 1993. Dull as dishwasher!
Never liked them, always found them dreary and drippy and this album just reinforces that. Awful!
Heavily influenced by The Beatles - Help album but there are some good songs on this.
Had listened to this previously and it's definitely an album that gets better the more you listen to it. Happy when it rains and April skies are instant likes, but tracks like Nine Million Rainy Days and Fall in particular grow on you over time.
Didn't like this kind of music at the time and I don't like it now.
It's some c£$t from Preston!
On A Rope aside (which was huge at the time), it's pretty a pretty underwhelming album overall.
I knew Spellbound well and there are some good tracks on here. Given it a 3 initially but could see it being upgraded to a 4 with more listens
zzzzzzz!
Don't mind a bit of Abba. Some good songs on this along with a couple that are a bit "meh". I can't stand Dancing Queen, but Knowing Me, Knowing You is a great song.
I really hate prog!
This album was just "ok" at the time and it's just "ok" now. A couple of decent songs, but for the most part it's just missing something :-/
A couple of fillers on this (I'm looking at you "Bring Back That Leroy Brown"!), but overall it's still a great album.
Classic Bernie Edwards bass and Nile Rodgers guitar, but does get a bit repetitive after a while. Good times is still a classic though.
A few bangers on this, but it does get repetitive after a while.
Not sure why we need one Steely Dan album in this list never mind three!
Some of my favourite S&G songs on this but overall not quite as good as Troubled Water. I'd give it 4.5/5 if I could.
Some great songs on this, but always found "When September Ends" to be a bit of a drag.
I love the cure and this is an album I've tried to listen to a few times previously but this is a hard listen.
Taylor Swift is a huge artist, but I honestly think it shows the state of the music industry these days that she is so huge. If she was around in the 80s she (and this album) would be fairly run of the mill. She's a female Ed Sheeran!
Some interesting social commentary, but every song sounds the same and I reckon I could fit "You've got a friend in me" lyrics into every song on this album :-/
Never got to grips with his solo stuff. Nothing on here to make me want to listen again (snooze).
Some of the best songs ever written mixed in with some absolute duffers. If this was a single LP with the best tracks, it would be up there with Revolver as the best album of all time. Still, for all that it's still worth a solid 4/5
Enjoyed this album for the most part when it came out. FF were a bit different from other bands around at the time and it's always good to see a local Glasgow band doing well. Album has some good songs and although not one I could listen to on repeat, it still sounds good over 20 years after it was released.
A bit too low-fi for me. Might have enjoyed this in 1993, but not enough to grab me these days.
One of my favourite albums of all time. Opening 3 tracks are outstanding, a slight lull with Why Go, but then side 1 closes with 2 incredibly powerful songs in Black and Jeremy. My only criticism would be that side 2 doesn't match up to side 1 in overall quality but when side 1 is that good.....
I don't hate it, but it's not something I'd actively put on to listen to.
Was expecting much better!
Started off ok, but drags on a bit after a while.
Overall as an album it's not brilliant as there are a few fillers, but there are also some great songs on there. Baba O'Riley is a brilliant opener (and amazing live), Bargain is pretty good but for me the quality drops significantly until we get to Behind Blue Eyes and then the epic Won't Get Fooled Again which is one of the greatest songs of all time.
Some very well known tracks on here that I never knew he sang. Without You is a classic ballad also covered by Maria Carey and as soon as the opening of Coconut started I instantly pictured the Reservoir Dogs crew :-D
Was decent back in the day and they were good fun live.
Never been a fan of The Boss. Individually these songs are ok, but as an album I just find it boring.
Don't rate this based on listening through a crappy little Amazon Echo device. Needs a decent system to do it justice.
Really can't stand Dylan's vocal. I'd rather listen to The Byrds singing his songs and Milltown Brothers do a great version of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" Disc 2 with the band is a hell of a lot better though so an extra star for that.
This is the only album of theirs I can really listen to due to Liz Frasers weird vocals on all the earlier stuff. She's a bit more normal sounding on this one where you can almost make out what she's singing 🤣 I love dreampop and shoegaze but, brilliant as it is, I'm not sure I'd recommend this as an entry into the genre. Better starting with bands like Ride, Slowdive, Lush (specifically Spooky as it was produced by Robin Guthrie) and then revisiting this to appreciate it more.
Album that inspired a genre. Has some great moments.
Not as good overall as Thriller but there are still some classic songs on here. Main issue is the overuse of his vocal ticks Shamone-heHeeeee etc Worth a 3.5
Musically this has some interesting moments but the vocals really put me off to the point where I can't listen to it.
Always found The Shamen a bit hit and miss. Move any Mountain is great (I've still got my original single form when it was released) but most of this just merges into 1.
not my cup of tea.
Singles get played on the radio all the time but don't think I've listened to this fully since the 90s. Still holds up well ironically apart from Ironic which is ironic, or is it? No it isn't ;-)
Got some decent songs but overall not a patch on her first 3/4 albums
Gave this a couple of listens. Never been a fan of this twee indie pop. Lyrically interesting but nothing musically that makes we want to listen again.
Sigh! There is only so much of Janis wailing like a banshee I can take!
Dull as feck!
Song for song I still prefer Modern Life Is Rubbish (which was 2 years ahead of it's time) but Parklife is still a essential album.
s'alright a couple of good tracks on here. Check out Lana Del Rey's cover of Season of the Witch.
I like a bit of synth-pop but was never a fan of Soft Cell at the time. Tainted love is a classic, but apart from that and Say Hello, Wave Goodbye i'm not keen on the rest of it.
Not a patch on Purple Rain.
Not my cup of tea musically but I do like Ms Jackson
pretty forgettable album.
Like Bug, there are some interesting moments on this musically, but Just naw to j masticulitis voice!
Decent background while writing code
If you are going to listen to a Lana album, listen to Born to Die and Ultraviolence. I've always found her later albums dull and lacking edge and this is a prime example.
I must be the only shoegazer who just can't get into MBV at all.
would rather listen to him singing the blues than big band
some classic covers on here
Zzzzz! What? It's finished? Sorry, I fell asleep! Zzzzz
Essentially a David Bowie album, which has some good moments. Giving it a 3/5 after one listen but will listen again. I had no idea China Girl was originally released in 77. Only knew about Bowies version in 83
Granted, they have some decent songs over their vast catalogue, but they are a band I just don't like and never have. Californiacation is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
It's ok, probably not as good as It's Blitz!
utter dross
