Reviews (page 3 of 14)
Excellent and ahead of its time
I have no discretion when it comes to the Beatles. Too many good memories!
There's my early childhood, encapsulated in a handful of charming songs.
Simply makes you happy. The fact that this is far from their best album and still easily 5 stars speaks volumes about the quality of The Beatles. Best band ever.
Great introductory album to a great band.
Now that I know Paul and John were that of secret lovers the band has become enjoyable again.
Blast from the past classics one after another. Knew them all. Loved it.
A thousand years from now, this will one of the albums in their ancient history space museum. Small tentacled school children will stare at the album cover before having lunch of protein slurry.
I've listened to and watched this so many times
Some really great Songs on this Album. Not all of them but most
CLASSIC
Good
Banger. Might become a Beatles stan tbh. Excited to see what else of theirs is on here cause there’s definitely more of em. Best song: A Hard Day’s Night Notable(s): I’m Happy Just To Dance With You, Can’t Buy Me Love, Any Time At All, When I Get Home
Hard not to rate this stone-cold classic a five. It's early Beatles, but honestly? I'm a big fan of early Beatles.
Classic, great harmonies.
The band makes the transition from youth making rock music to writing all their stuff and beginning to really show where things were headed.
I did not realize how many of the hits were on this album. I knew almost every song.
Come on. Beatles.
What a bunch of idiots, did they expect it to be easy?
Instantly reminds me of dad :) I listened to The Beatles a lot in the car with family. I also went through a lot of their albums in 2010 when I was in San Diego and trying to find new/old music to enjoy.
Unreal.
These guys are fantastic.
Great album - gotta see the movie now
Only album to be 100% Lennon McCartney. They were early 20s putting this list together. Classics.
A Hard Day’s Night is where The Beatles start become the band that’s still regarded as the greatest of all time. The first album written entirely by Paul and John. Their early stuff is often overlooked, but the chord progression and melodies are something no one had ever heard before. That continues here, and really it never leaves them. Hard’s Day Night is were the depth starts to come in. 8.9/10
Probably my favorite of the “boy band” Beatles records before they went more psychedelic. Upbeat, full of hits and deep cuts. If I Fell will always be a favorite
It’s the Beatles! Another five star album ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was fantastic. I imagine that this was the record that proved some people wrong. Some people thought that the Beatles were nothing but a fad in '64 and yet here they are writing some of their best songs early in their career. Their ability to write hit singles as well as valuable deep cuts is set in stone. From this point, they use more mature themes and soon, experimentation will take them from a great rock band to the greatest rock band of all time. Absolutely yes. (9/10, 5/5 on this scale)
Obra maestra
The hype was warranted. Within the style of the time, this is a collection of perfect and nearly-perfect gems. 5 stars
Real nostalgic! Genius amateurs! Afternoon naps after school!
Short and sweet! Fell for the harmonies and the mix of energy and tenderness.
A classic. Doesn't hold up too well overall for me, but the bangers that stand out are undeniable. 'Can't Buy Me Love' was my fave.
Beatles coming into their own. Another important album, but more than that, excellent pop music. The compositions are flawless in context, and there's a surprising variety of vocal and instrumental sounds. "Hard Day's Night" has that iconic opening chord, a story of its own, one of the best intros in rock. It is astonoshing to me how much material these guys put out inm such a short period, almost all of it the quality work, songs that were covered by countless other artists, to say nothing of the influence they had. Which is perhaps their greatest legacy. Bridging early vocal group rock with later exporations, and in doing so, inventing the genre. At least for me, this album, Rubber Soul, and Revolver are the Beatles high point and some of the best rock ever to be recorded. I can't get enough.
Awesome
Quite simply one of the best pop albums of all time. If I fell is one of the most beautiful songs of all time
misogynist beatles do not exist 1964 beatles:
Mi análisis carece de subjetividad. Es el primero que hicieron todos los temas. Boleros y motown
No sé si puedo ser objetivo.
What a classic. Can't believe I had never heard Any Time At All.
love it
It’s always a joy on this website when you get an album you know you’ll love. I fucking love this album. It’s the best of the Beatlemania era and probably my 3rd favourite Beatles album (behind Rubber Soul and Abbey Road). Every track slaps, there’s no skips here for me. So many classics on here from the title track to Can’t Buy Me Love, If I Fell and And I Love Her to name a few! Also watch the movie, it’s actually quite fun!
It’s the same guy 4 times in a row.
It’s barely a five, not Beatles best but has some really really good songs on it
Loved it and heard a few songs I hadn't heard before.
This is an early Beatles album, with most of the tracks written and sung by John. I’ve heard every track on this album 100 times, so for me this is a greatest hits record.
Too many people analyze this album in the arc of rock music progression, failing to give it credit for its time in history. Yes, it is a “pop” music album. Yes, it is not the Beatles at their most sophisticated. But it is still an amazing album. Every song inspires emotion. The instrumentation is getting more complicated and the harmonies are amazing. I could listen to this album on repeat for a long time, even though I generally hate pop music.
Very nice
What can you say? I prefer later Beatles, like most everyone else. But these songs are pop rock perfection.
Simple, quick and easy. Fun and unvomplicated love songs. B side has less "wow" factor, but an excellent all-around record for both listening to and dancing to. Top tracks: A Hard Day's Night, If I Fell, And I Love Her, Can't Buy Me Love
Overdue to listen to this whole album, classic but every song sounds the same
Beatles in the up and coming era. Favorite track: Can't buy me love other track: hard day’s night, if i fell, and i love her, things were said today
It’s the Beatles. In fact, they it’s one of (but not) the best Beatles albums. It’s even short with no filler. Five marks, all around!
In so many ways the quintessential Beatles album. Mature and confident with Lennon & McCartney at the peak of their powers. No sitars, no George Martin experiments or Phil Spector Wall of Sound, just clean, pure, well composed and produced 60s pop music. I love it.
Love me some beatles tunes! ૮꒰˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶꒱ა
mijn fav early beatles album denk ik
Great ALbum. Still classic. Amazing tunes.
classic
If any other early 1960s band had written something as evocative as Things We Said Today or as catchy as You Can't Do That, it would have probably been their biggest hit. For The Beatles, they were deeper cuts because they knew there were plenty more pop classics where those came from. That's why they were always ahead of the pack, even before they got experimental.
Absolute classic, very short but to the point, all good vibes though
The thing about a Beatles album is that if you're a big fan, repeated listenings only serve to deepen your appreciation of their work. I know all of these songs, some very well, and without fail they prove to me what an iconoclastic and influential band they were. Even some of the "lesser" songs that some may deem filler play a part in their legacy. Tracks like Things We Said Today, Tell Me Why or I'll Be Back won't make any Beatles top 10 (or even top 50) list, but had they been recorded by another group, they would likely have been big hits in their own right. And there's no denying the staying power of the biggies on this disc - Can't Buy Me Love, If I Fell (those harmonies!), And I Love Her (a perfect love song for it's time) and the title track all cemented the Beatles as one of the all-time greats. As for this list, I can confidently say that I'd rather listen to this album than about 95% of the other entries, and that's why it gets a 5 from me.
Comment ne pas mettre un 5 à cette musique phénoménale et intemporelle ?!
Lennon’s masterpiece.
The Beatles went on to bigger and better stuff, for sure, but as a snapshot of Lennon and McCartney working together as partnership firing out quality pop tunes for a standard band set up on demand, nothing really beats A Hard Day's Night. Unique in being the only Beatles album to feature original compositions by John and Paul exclusively, while it may be a tad dated lyrically in places, it is melodic and infectious throughout. Short, snappy and to the point from that famous opening chord to the final strains of I'll Be Back, as far as I'm concerned this is joy from start to finish. A slightly superficial joy in light of what was to come, but a joy nonetheless. For my money, the best "early" Beatles album.
I love this record. It’s simple and energetic rock music and it’s the Beatles. What else do you want?
As someone doesn't experience Beatles music in full album format, A Hard Day’s Night is a refreshing listen. It’s packed with familiar hits alongside a few lesser-known gems that deserve more attention. While it doesn’t come together as a cohesive concept album, each track overflows with the Beatles’ signature creativity and melodic brilliance. It’s a vibrant snapshot of a band hitting their early stride.
Pure pop perfection. Impeccable harmonies, infectious choruses and the first two tracks have even better bridges! I am surely in the minority here, but I think this is better than both Revolver and Abbey Road. Yeah, I said it.
surprisingly good
olyan ikonikus ez az egész, meg annyira ismerem minden akkordját és másodpercét, hogy tudom, hogy objektíve nem ötös, és mégsem tudok kevesebbet adni ❤️
Another clinic in songwriting from the greatest rock-'n'-roll band of all time. 5
Can't deny their greatness!
This review stands outside of what I have rated other Beatles albums here. This was MY first Beatles album way back when I first started listening to music (27M) and even after listening to thousands of other albums, of course including the Beatles own work as a group or individually, this one is still a certified banger.
of course a classic
I would say this is one of my favorite Beatles’ albums but all of The Beatles’ albums are my favorites.
it’s the beatles man! what’s there not to love?
Not full of bangers but still class, some of the first songs i learnt on the guitar here. Low 5.
I tried to listen to this without any preconcieved positive biases based on the fact that it's the Beatles, but it really is very very good.
The Beatles. That's all.
I'm a simple man. I get a Beatles album, I give it 5 stars
Banger after banger. poppy. Fun.
Perfection
The best ‘boy band’ album of all time.
Watch the film of the same title, it's genuinely incredible
A classic album, lots of greats in this one.
An incredible pop album, but pop as true art was still some time away. I just can't listent to the title track anymore (but that's not it's fault). Highlight: Any Time At All. Lowlight: None.
Fun & Fresh sound of the 60’s
Le summum du early Beatles. La voix de Lennon domine cet album, probablement plus que sur tous les autres. Y'a plus de hits sur cet album que sur les Greatest Hits de 9 bands sur 10.
A phenomenal album the Beatles were one of the biggest bands in history for a reason.
It's awesome and insane that these same four dudes made St. Peppers like three years later.
i already know i love this one. Yeah, they're all solid on this album.
It's the Beatles, what else is there to say?
In the eye of the hurricane, to be the epitome of the storm. In a span of five months, Beatlemania went from a British phenomenon to a worldwide juggernaut. That breakneck (if one can call it that) turnaround required a movie, which needed a soundtrack, of sorts. A Hard Day's Night is safely considered the first truly great Beatles album, perhaps the best from the early portion of their career when they were not just figuring things out but honing their craft and continuing to up the ante in terms of musicianship and songwriting. Without a doubt the most explosive, oft-times thoughtful, innovative and effective half-hour of 1964, A Hard Day's Night is Beatlemania at its absolute purest.
These lads have potential.
i don't think i have to explain it's the beatles guys come on
Це неймовірний відчуття, коли мені подобається те що колись слухав мій батько, ця музика не підвласна поколінням - вона актуальна завжди.
Go! Beatles!
love it!
They dabble stylistically into everything from bossa nova, mersey beat, pop, and straight up rock and roll and it is glorious.
A classic of early Beatles. Yeah it’s not as amazing as their later stuff, but it’s nostalgic and fun
First full set of Lennon-McCartney originals. A mythic album.
Need we say more.

Early Beatles is always kinda punk to me, great album!
Of the first three Beatles albums, this one is the strongest
Here we are again. Another Beatles album I know front to back, that I’ve heard a hundred times. Go back and look at my other Beatles review to see how I feel about them (top 5 favorite band; basic, I know). This was their first album of all original tracks and man does it shine. From kicking off hot with the title track, to bringing it down with tracks like “If I Fell” and “And I Love Her,” this album keeps the infectious energy of the Beatles while also showing a more mature, refined sound and attitude. They know what they’re doing, the recording quality is superb, and John and Paul are just absolutely kicking ass here. Yes, most of the songs are still about love in the most vague and naive way. But not all of them are. “And I Love Her” shows a more mature take on the subject, and “Things We Said Today” takes a darker, more negative look at it. Same with “You Can’t Do That.” Hence, the maturity I mentioned, as well as more complex songwriting and arrangements. There are lighter moments, too. The falsetto line in “Tell Me Why” sounds like something they had a ton of fun recording and comes out of left field. I always smile at that line. And “Can’t Buy Me Love” is just a fun, high energy romp. This isn’t the best Beatles album, but it’s definitely the best of the early period. It’s a trip to listen to through these albums in chronological order and see the evolution of them as songwriters and musicians in an insanely short period of time. I love this album. Five stars. Standout Tracks: A Hard Day’s Night, I Should Have Known Better, Tell Me Why, Can’t Buy Me Love, Things We Said, You Can’t Do That
This was the start of the transition from mop top to serious artist.
very wholesome. el boyband de mi abuela vibes
They really figured out who they were for this one. Perfectly perfect light pop. Maybe not one serious thought except how to make a seriously made showcase of what they could do. 5 because I'm hooked and know what's coming. I'll be back indeed.
Frühlingsgefühlenachdemlangewinterzeit (literally--that feeling of spring after a long winter) I was trying to come up with a word for the coziness that this album brought to my life for 30 minutes. German is a beautiful language in that you can put words together so effortlessly to come up with something that smacks a feeling right in the face with precision. Those opening notes! Ahhh...I didn't realize how comforting and so familiar that opening chord is. Boom..I was taken right back to my pre-adolescent bedroom and my LP. Young girls didn't have Taylor Swift in the late 70s to put all those feelings to a beat...we had The Beatles. And a Hard Day's Night effortlessly captures yearning, love, youth in 30 tight minutes that stay with you a lifetime. And then they go and write another killer song that completely captures Frühlingsgefühlenachdemlangewinterzeit just 5 years after this! _________ I read something recently that if The Beatles coming to America in February 1964 were at the start of COVID, they would have released Abbey Road this year. That view of time and what The Beatles accomplished in their short time span just blows my mind.
Super pleasant. Honestly a little boring and sheltered compared to their later albums, but I think that makes me appreciate their later innovation that much more.
Great album.
This is my favourite early Beatles album (where Rubber Soul marks the beginning of their middle period.) So I think it's pretty good.
A great one
5 stars because it is the Beatles (one of the greatest bands ever)!!
I was 2 when this was released and my parents played it none stop for many years… it’s like a comfort blanket. 13 tracks in 30 min, you can’t ‘beat’ it!!
BEAAAAAAAATLES BABYYYYYY!! Iconisch met een reden. Dit is het album waar hun pop-sound echt begon te rijpen, en tevens hun eerste album met alleen maar eigen materiaal. Kinda biased maar easy 5/5.
A lot of great songs
immer noch unglaublich gut
The crazy thing to remember about A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, both the album and film, is that it wasn't meant to be good — and certainly not some of the greatest work this band would do in either medium. 'Coz let's recognize, when United Artists got The Beatles under contract to do all this, all they were expecting was a quickie exploitation film; a cashgrab. At best, they probably figured, they'd get something like Elvis's movies: some cheap rush job with flimsy plot meant to do nothing more than to prop up the boys galavanting about and singing songs. They didn't care; the fans would come to see their boys on the big screen regardless of if it was good or not. Heck, they'd buy the **album** regardless it was good or not — which would promote the film, while the film promoted the album... It was a genius strategy. Or at least it was until the Colonel had it milked dry by the middle-end of the 60's. Seriously, you didn't wanna be Elvis in the middle-late 60's — but that's a story for another day... So imagine everyone's surprise, then, when The Beatles and director Richard Lester pulled up with a film that was actually really, **really** good. Instead of Elvis driving cars or doing the clam around Hawaii, they got a cinéma vértié-style look into 36 hours into the band's life at the time ("[A] train and a room, and a car and a room, and a room and a room"), which is kept from being depressing by the witty and clever dialogue dispensing Liverpudlian humor and some brilliant songs. Add in how charming The Beatles were on screen, plus some innovative camera work during the musical sequences, and you have a movie that'd wind up in the Criterion Collection for being a precursor to MTV and music videos. In short, besides YELLOW SUBMARINE (a personal favorite), it's the best film the band would ever be involved in. And about those songs (this **is** supposed to be an album review, after all)... Frankly, I consider this album a triumph; the peak and pinnacle of their first three albums — their "beat"/"boy band" phase, as I think of it. I mean, come on, it's the only album in their entire discography written solely by Lennon and McCartney: a whole 13 songs worth! Not even SGT. PEPPER'S can make that claim thanks to George's "Within You Without You" (which is a fantastic song, of course). And the fact that they all came out as strong as they did — goodness! The title track is among the best album openers this band has ever had. I mean, the iconic opening chord alone would be enough to cement that fact, but then you get into how frenetic the rest of the song is, from those bongos to the guitar/piano duet solo that had to be recorded at half speed for how fast it is. "I Should Have Known Better" is one of my favorite harmonica rollicks from the band, "If I Fell" and "And I Love Her" are both beautiful acoustic ballads... Goodness, that one high backing vocal on "Tell Me Why" ("If there's anything I can do-ooo-ooo") gets me every time, it's great. Honestly, among the first side, the weakest song here might be "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You", but I enjoy George enough as a singer that I can hardly mind it. Besides, when side A closes with another of the band's best-ever songs, "Can't Buy Me Love", I bet you're hardly thinking about the weak points. Which brings us to the second side of the record. In what was apparently tradition for British soundtracks at the time, it consists of a bunch of extra songs. Y'know, a just-under-equal smattering of bonus tunes to go along with the ones from the movie. And they're... I mean, I'm not gonna lie; they **are** a bit of a step down. In fact, if there's anywhere you might miss the covers the band included on their first two albums, it's here. But all the same, I think they're generally strong enough that my earlier remark about this being the pinnacle of their beat phase stands. I mean, heck, at one point "I'll Cry Instead" was considered good enough for the movie itself. It only didn't end up on side one because they figured "Can't Buy Me Love" was tonally a better fit for the scene it would've scored — and even then, it still wound up on the American version of the soundtrack, even if by accident. I do like "Any Time At All" as a side opener. Jus' the way it goes "THUMP!" and, well, we're off running. Plus, I've always had a soft spot for "You Can't Do That", in part because of its early inclusion on another American release, THE BEATLES' SECOND ALBUM. That's not on this list, unlike MEET THE BEATLES!, but I still wanna recommend it anyway for being a good encapsulation of the band's early rock n' roll songs. As for the other three, they're all pretty enjoyable. I like how "When I Get Home" walks, with its "WAOH-OH-IIIIII"s; "Things We Said Today" has a nice vocal from paul, and I enjoy that "hard strum" riff it has; and I think "I'll Be Back" plays as a nice album closer, what with the repeating riff it fades out on. Not to mention, as a meta-promise to the fans... Boy, would they ever be. At any rate, I kinda doubt anyone would find the songs on side B weak enough that they'd actively bring side A down. Side A is just such an incredible run of songs, making it easily the music from this phase I've returned to the most often. By itself it gives this whole album a 5. Like, sure, PLEASE PLEASE ME has originals like its title track, and WITH THE BEATLES has covers like "You've Really Got A Hold On Me", but put them in context of their entire record side and they can't quite compare. And for real, if you haven't seen the movie yet, what're you even waiting for? Go do yourself a favor and watch it. I know I'll be watching it, and singing along as loudly as I can. Goodness.
What is there to say that hasn't been said already, both in the terms of artist and album? Of course, with the Fab Four being early in their careers, it doesn't really have as much influence as Sgt. Pepper's and beyond in their catalogue, but it's still a hell of a track list, nonetheless. Solid 5 Stars.
I’m at a 5. The first time I ever heard the Beatles as a kid was from a little jukebox toy – you can look this up, just Google “Golden Oldies Jukebox Coin Bank” or something like that, it’ll pop up. One of the songs there was Can’t Buy Me Love – it only played the chorus, out of a really crappy speaker, and yet it was the song I always gravitated to. When it wasn’t that song, I’d just keep pushing the button until I heard Can’t Buy Me Love again. I suppose it’s only right that the song is on this album, then. I already had it in my big playlist, but I just wanted to tell that story. How about the rest of it then? Obviously, “A Hard Day’s Night” might start with the single most memorable guitar hit ever, but the rest of the tracks here are… pretty good, for the most part. This is obviously not the Beatles at their peak; this feels more like say, some of the solo albums Michael Jackson released before Off the Wall sent him into the stratosphere & Thriller sent him into another plane of existence. It’s a little more raw, a little less defined, and still within the growing pains of it all, throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks and what doesn’t. I do think the DNA of a lot of their future monstrous success is on this album, though, and it certainly helps that this was a gigantic hit in its own right. You don’t get the rest of Beatlemania without starting here, and you certainly don’t get it without the rest of the tracks living up to the weight of the two biggest ones on this album, and I really think they did, even if they’re not quite as good. “I Should Have Known Better” has some solid harmonization & lyrics, and the harmonica feels super rare for a Beatles track. “If I Fell” has a really cool Bossa Nova vibe, even if the vocals do drown it out just a bit. “I’m Happy Just To Dance With You” has a really nice percussive pattern that evokes The Beach Boys. “And I Love Her” is an absolute standout – the Spanish guitar adds so much. “Tell Me Why” is the most 50s sounding track on the album, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing; I really liked the big band / nightclub feel of it all. “Any Time At All” has a really nice grit to John’s voice that makes it stand out, even though it feels pretty instrumentally close to say, The Byrds or other contemporaries. “I’ll Cry Instead” has a lot of obvious influence from Bob Dylan, but it’s got a really nice melody and a good tone in the vocals. “Things We Said Today” has great lyricism, even if it’s slightly repetitive, and it’s just a super catchy track. “When I Get Home” has a lot of the DNA that would later be present on Paul’s solo stuff with Wings, even though John’s got lead vocals on it. “You Can’t Do That” is a really bouncy track with some great harmonization & backing vocals. “I’ll Be Back”’s acoustically driven soundscape, as well as their harmonizing vocals blend really, really well, and I think it’s a really nice closer. I’m not at a 10 like I was with Abbey Road & The White Album – it’s not as good as those albums, and I’m sure most people would agree with that. However, what’s here is still fun, and I can totally understand why The Beatles blew up before & especially so after this. It’s pretty damn good rock & roll, and it shifted the blueprint for everybody for the rest of the 60s. They became the bar for success, and they set the tone for what to strive for musically. I’m not saying everyone tried to be the Beatles, but everyone had to be a little more Beatle-y, across all genres. I’m just glad it’s a short one – I don’t know that I could handle another 90 minute masterclass from these guys, so I’ll take 30 minutes of “pretty damn good” as the alternative. It’s an easy 5 for me. Still several more to go from these guys.

Not the best beatle album but certainly a banger one
The very first album to contain solely Lennon-McCartney compositions still rips as hard as the day it was released. (And the movie it’s attached to is worth a watch!)
Staple
The Beatles suck.
I mean, its great. Classic and easy to listen to, it really holds up. It is kind of wild that this was considered edgy rock-and-roll back in the day!
The peak of Beatlemania. Bright, fresh, happy, energetic. Fills me with good feelings. Best song: If I Fell
Oh I’ve been waiting for this one. This album proves to me why the Beatles are such an influence. Classic after classic, hits front to back. Flawless, truly.
First time that I seriously listen to The Beatles, and I was absolutely not let down. It's actually crazy how good this album sounds even today, considering that it's 60 years old. And to think that this is apparently not even one of their best albums... mental!
This album is fantastic and show that there isn’t really much evolution between this and the White Album.
best early beatles album (pre-rubber soul) just good all the way through. grown up yet poppy enough to be loved by all ages. some production techniques like the cowbell in you cant do that, or the weird tom rolls (in tell me why?) hint at the band they would become the next year
Already one of my favourite early Beatles albums. Great album, great film It's the Beatles
I KNOW THIS LOVE OF MINE WILL NEVER DIE
Its hard to give a Beatles album anything less than a 5. So many hits and my wifes wedding dance with her father song.
I had forgotten all the songs I love on this album Beautiful from start to finish
It’s the Beatles
Burned into memory by parents, radio stations, road trips, and more.
My mom just passed away. She loved The Beatles. I miss you mom. So very much. I hope I made you proud.
Amazing. This still sounds so good. A funny coincidence this album came up after a Rolling Stones album. For the age old question of “Beatles or Rolling Stones?”, I am firmly in team Beatles.
not my fav beatles album but pretty high up there
I mean, does it get better than this? This is like a turning point of music and possibly even society. This is the beginning of their albums not really having any duds or forgettable takes. And the movie is great.
Hard to complain about this one. Tons of excellent singles, and a few really great deep cuts. The movie is also pretty fantastic. “Can’t Buy Me Love” is one of my favourite Beatles tunes, the wistful chorus melody is one of the best things to come from the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership. I think the only complaint I can come up with is that this album isn’t Rubber Soul. There’s a good reason that the Beatles were far and away the most popular band in the world for a very long time. There’s really not much more to say about this record, it’s just super enjoyable to listen to. 4.5*
Always great
I love this album and I love this movie. I know a lot of pop stars have stints as film actors, but I don’t think anyone can do it with the same style as the Beatles. Extra fun with my 10-year old singing along in the backseat.
Forgot how much I liked this album
I'm at home listening and Everything seems to be right.
Earlier Beatles is obviously a different proposition than the later records, but this is still an album full of lovely melodies and harmonies. We're starting to see more intricate or offbeat compositions with some darker tones. A Hard Day's Night is a strong start and the next few album cuts are all good to excellent. And I Love Her is one of the great early Beatles ballads. Can't Buy Me Love closes out of the first half. Onto side two, and Any Time At All is a great lesser known song with a strong chorus. Things We Said Today is another very good one with a darker feel to it, mostly in a minor key. We close with I'll Be Back and it might be my favorite song here. Haunting and beautiful. They always manage to start and finish both sides of a record with really strong pieces and this pulls everything together. Not my favorite from them, but still gets top marks.
Superb, a real band
30 minutes of utter perfection. There isn't a duff track here. They're all so well-written and precisely tooled.
Not the best Beatles' album but I can't vote anything but five stars when it comes to them.
It's A Hard Day's Night.
It's the fab 4 need I say anymore!!
The impact these Beatles albums have had on the music I've listened to in my life is immeasurable. Jerry Garcia saw A Hard Day's Night in the theater and decided he wanted to be a musician. No Jerry, no Grateful Dead. Immeasurable.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! RINGO HAS A SEXY NOSE!!! RINGO HAS A SEXY NOSE!!! AND PAUL MCCARTNEY, IF YOU'RE LISTENING. ADRIENNE FROM BROOKLYN LOVES YOU WITH ALL HER HEART!!! This is peak beatlemania, early Beatles at their best. Perfect harmonies and great melodies. Their first album full of original material too
The best early Beatles album by far, listening to this walking the cold streets of Xi An was a heart warming experience. They may all be soapy love songs but the fab 4 really know how to pull on the heart strings. And I love her top 5 Beatles song no competition.
Am I being nostalgic? Perhaps.

I feel like I have heard this album before even though I don't know if I ever listened to it in it's entirety. I really enjoyed all the songs. I wouldn't change a thing. Go Beatles. These guys are pretty good.
Bangers all. Track after track. Sure, some of their later material is more inventive and creative and cool. However, it couldn’t have happened without this material coming first, and, in certain moods, this is the highest art of the form, ever.
## In-Depth Review of *A Hard Day's Night* by The Beatles The Beatles' album *A Hard Day's Night*, released on July 10, 1964, is a landmark in the history of popular music. It marks a significant evolution in the band's sound and songwriting, showcasing their ability to craft memorable melodies and relatable lyrics. This review delves into the album's lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence while also outlining its pros and cons. ****Lyrics and Themes The lyrics of *A Hard Day's Night* reflect the everyday experiences of love, work, and the emotional highs and lows that accompany them. The title track opens with the iconic line, "It's been a hard day's night," immediately setting the tone for a narrative about exhaustion juxtaposed with the comfort found in love. This theme resonates throughout the album: - **Work and Exhaustion**: Many songs express the fatigue that comes from hard work, such as "I’ve been working like a dog," which captures the universal struggle of balancing labor with personal life. - **Love and Connection**: The recurring motif of love as a source of solace is evident in tracks like "And I Love Her," where McCartney’s heartfelt lyrics convey deep emotional sincerity. - **Frustration and Jealousy**: Songs like "You Can't Do That" explore themes of jealousy and possessiveness, showcasing Lennon’s ability to articulate complex emotions. Overall, the lyrics are characterized by their simplicity yet profound relatability, making them accessible to a wide audience. ****Music and Production Musically, *A Hard Day's Night* is notable for its innovative sound and production techniques. The album features a blend of rock and pop elements that were groundbreaking for its time: - **Instrumentation**: The use of George Harrison's Rickenbacker 12-string guitar creates a bright, jangly sound that became a defining characteristic of the album. The opening chord of the title track is particularly iconic, instantly recognizable and often cited as one of the greatest opening chords in rock history. - **Vocal Harmonies**: The Beatles' signature harmonies are prominently featured throughout the album. Lennon and McCartney's vocal interplay adds depth to tracks like "If I Fell" and "Things We Said Today," showcasing their growth as songwriters. - **Production Quality**: Produced by George Martin, the album benefits from his expertise in blending raw energy with polished sound. Martin utilized new four-track recording technology to enhance the clarity and richness of the music, allowing for intricate arrangements that were previously unattainable. The combination of these elements results in an album that feels cohesive yet diverse, with each track offering something unique while contributing to an overall sense of joy and exuberance. ****Influence *A Hard Day's Night* had a profound impact on both The Beatles' career trajectory and the broader music landscape: - **Cultural Significance**: Released alongside their first feature film of the same name, the album helped solidify The Beatles as cultural icons during the height of Beatlemania. The film's success introduced their music to an even wider audience, further embedding them in popular culture. - **Songwriting Evolution**: This album marked The Beatles' first entirely original soundtrack, showcasing their maturation as songwriters. The quality of their compositions set new standards for pop music and influenced countless artists who followed. - **Legacy**: Songs from *A Hard Day's Night* have been covered by numerous artists across various genres, demonstrating its lasting appeal. Tracks like "Can't Buy Me Love" remain staples in popular music repertoires today. ****Pros and Cons While *A Hard Day's Night* is widely regarded as one of The Beatles' essential works, it is not without its critiques: **Pros**: - **All-original Content**: This is the first Beatles album featuring only original songs, showcasing their songwriting prowess. - **Catchy Melodies**: The album is filled with infectious hooks that have stood the test of time. - **Cohesive Sound**: Despite its diversity in style, the album maintains a cohesive sound that reflects The Beatles' early pop-rock identity. - **Cultural Impact**: It played a significant role in shaping 1960s pop culture and establishing The Beatles as global superstars. **Cons**: - **Simplicity in Lyrics**: Some critics argue that while relatable, the lyrics can be overly simplistic compared to later works by The Beatles. - **Limited Musical Complexity**: Compared to subsequent albums like *Rubber Soul* or *Revolver*, *A Hard Day's Night* may seem less musically adventurous. - **Perception as 'Lightweight'**: Some listeners view it as part of their early 'moptop' phase, which can overshadow its artistic merits. In summary, *A Hard Day's Night* stands out as a pivotal moment in The Beatles' evolution as artists. Its combination of relatable lyrics, catchy melodies, innovative production techniques, and cultural significance solidifies its place in music history. While it has its limitations compared to later masterpieces, it remains an essential listen for anyone interested in understanding the trajectory of popular music in the 1960s.
This is absolutely one of their best. Love it.
Listened to the whole thing to check it was still 5 stars and fuck yes it is.
Not my cup of tea but I recognize that the Beatles are supremely talented trailblazers.
Great album!!! Every song was great.
Early Beatles never disappoint
Quite Lennony. I do find it a little sad that “And I Love Her” sounds like it could have been written at any time in the last 60 years of McCartney’s career.
I love the Beatles' early work. All the experimentation is fun and everything, but sometimes you just want some straight ahead pop that has a few interesting chordal choices and notes choices.
Full 5 stars
kurt cobain!
The temptation is to look at an early Beatles and hesitate to give it top marks because it's so earnest and sunshiney. But I'm just happy when listening to it, singing along and harmonizing. A Hard Day's Night is imprinted on me — and pop culture, both.
October 18, 2024 Album 930: After 7 main albums and 5 solo ones, no more Beatles for the rest of the list! I kinda liked knowing the next random album might be an excuse to revisit the Fab Four, but since many of the albums I dreaded the most- Napalm Death, Public Image Ltd., 2-hr-long drum-and-bass records- are also behind me, I shouldn’t need my comfort listens to fall back on for a while 🥺 About AHDN: In a perfect world, it would contain “This Boy”, labelled as “Ringo’s Theme” in the actual movie soundtrack. But alas, we must settle for near-perfect. The songs that ARE contained within are gems. If I had to choose a least favourite it would probably be “I’ll Cry Instead”, but only because John did the country ditty better on Beatles for Sale and Help!. If I had to choose a favourite… today it’s “If I Fell”, a fragile duet that heralds the more artsy direction they would be heading in. But most days- it’s all about that title track baby 🎸 🎸 🎸 “I’ll Be Back”, “Things We Said Today” & “I’m Happy Just to Dance With You” shoulda been big, but considering the saturation of Beatles Billboard hits at the time, maybe it’s best they didn’t
Bingo, Bango, Bongo and Irving are pretty good!
Sheer brilliance!
Innovation and power around every corner. I can't get up on the karaoke stage and sing Can't Buy Me Love this many times and not award the full 5 stars.
One of the Beatles greatest albums .. but they are all good really
There’s a certain lofi charm to this album. This feels smack in the middle between their rockabilly influences and their genre-defining future. A cool cultural artifact.
Good album, but to be honest I am kind of sick of The Beatles.
The first album where Lennon and McCartney write all the tunes and prove beyond anyone's doubt that they really were leagues ahead of anyone else out there. On the surface they songs seem to be fairly straighforward pop but dig a little deeper and all the misery, frustration, lust, love and raw sexual innuendo is surpringsly there - how did no one spot this? I'll answer: the tunes are just too fucking good. Also, the film is great too. Best Tracks: A Hard Day's Night; Can't Buy Me Love; Things We Said Today
Their best early period album before they started experimenting on Rubber Soul. It’s their best early album because all of the songs are Lennon and McCartney originals. Everything is good, nothing objectionable or clunky. I probably wouldn’t turn to it if I was in a Beatles mood per se but I would t skip any of the tracks either.
A true classic
Pure effortless gold. The Beatles of the early 60s produced perfect sound that the bands of today cannot achieve with auto tuning. Albums like this require 6 stars.
Hard Day's night is significant for being the first Beatles album where all of the songs were written by the Beatles. And even though they would go on to make much better albums, A Hard Day's Night would be the best album in nearly any other band's catalog. It's the culmination of the sappy romantic Beatles period. And it gives the first peeks into what they would soon become on albums like Rubber Soul and Revolver. I never reach for this album. But I don't get mad when it's on.
WOW, 60 years ago. Still sounds GOOD!
Best Beatles record.
People tend to underlook The Beatles' early albums, but it's crazy to hear how far ahead they were from their contemporaries. I mean, let's be real, albums like The Kinks' debut or the Stones' 12x5 might be good, but they're clearly not in the same league. It's also a big leap forward from the rather disappointing With The Beatles. Really fun album, this and Help! are among my favorites.
Imagine hearing this in 1964. This album could've raised the dead if it was possible.
Imagine living in 1964, dropping the needle on this record and then... "BAAAAM", the wildest chord you've ever heard rings, followed by one of the most energetic catchy song of this year. There are so many great songs on this one...the haunting vocals of If I Fell, the wonderful Paul's classic ballad And I Love Her, the superhit Can't Buy Me Love, the upbeat and catchy Tell Me Why and Anytime At All and the wonderful closer I'll Be Back. The Beatles wasn't already at the top of their art, but if you compare to any rock album of 1964, they were on another planet.
This is my third Beatles album here. After Sgt. Peppers and Rubber Soul, both landmarks in the Beatles' evolution and a massive influence on the music of their time, A Hard Day's Night was the first evolutionary step they took after their international breakthrough. All the tracks were written by band members, and not one was a miss. I haven't listened to A Hard Day's Night for years, maybe decades, but still knew most of the lyrics by heart. Easy vote.
it good
Pre-listening thoughts: HEYO first Beatles album! About time considering how much Beatles related material comprises this list. Glad we got an early album from them to start versus like the white album. Post/during listening thoughts: The Beatles have such tight harmonies and this is just really classic stuff. These songs are so short though 😭. I went in thinking I only knew one song but that is just not true lol. They are just everywhere it is impossible to avoid the Beatles. And ya know what? I’m not mad about it. I think some of their other albums have higher highs but i would be lying if I said this wasn’t no skips and fantastic all around. I feel like almost every Beatles album on this list may be a personal 5 stars whoops! 9.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: like yes for me personally? I feel like everyone should hear at least one Beatles album. And maybe this isn’t the one for everyone but I would put this on my list of albums to hear before I die Fav tracks: A Hard Days Night, If I Fell, And I Love Her, Tell Me Why, Can’t Buy Me Love, I’ll Be Back (but also like… I enjoyed all of them) Least fav tracks: none. I mean the Beatles just didn’t miss as far as I’m aware (may eat these words in a few albums)
Another perfect mix of lyrics, harmony and music on every song. Haters gonna hate, but the Beatles just perfected their art.
I love it when this site sends me an album that I have in my collection, because it encourages me to dust off all of them hahaha. Anyway, Beatles, right? 5 Automatic Stars activated! You can go away, there's no review, it's Beatles! You don't need one. Just kidding. This is probably the best early Beatles album and probably one of the best film soundtrack albums of all time. It was the album that opened the doors of the world wide open and said "We are the best band on the planet!". I wanted to highlight the title track for one simple reason: how many songs do you know that can be easily recognized by the first chord at the beginning? It's as if the music stole that chord for itself, so much so that if you play it (if you're a musician) in any other context in your life, you'll immediately remember A Hard Day's Night! Fun fact: I watched Paul Mcartney in December 2023 here in Brazil, and he opened the show with Can't Buy Me Love and I was curious to notice how a song that I've heard since I was a child still gives me the same chills that I felt the first time. Seeing Paul sing that day was like watching my entire life flash before my eyes! Anyway, like I said, Automatic 5 stars!
Simply the best. But hey, I was there when they came out and took the world by storm. I mean, hit after hit after hit on this album alone! Only one song that I was not very familiar with (when I get home) off of this thing. The rest are all classic Beatles and just great music. 10 stars!
good
Old school great
With the Beatles you start with the red and blue compilations to have all the legendary songs and one-off singles, then you buy all the studio albums to have some of the insanely great deeper cuts. I bought this one pretty late in the game, long after the essential LPs from the band's later psychedelic and mature rock phase. And I've never regretted it since. The most legendary track is probably the title track starting the proceedings, propelled by that harmonically complex chord strummed on the guitars, not to mention George Martin's piano -- the ensemble now triggering a Pavlovian response for all Beatles fans out there... That initial chord is then followed by a perfect pop song, brightly enhanced by George Harrison's solo on his 12-string Rickenbacker. The second most legendary song is the insanely catchy "Can't Buy Me Love", already a hit single by the time of the album's release. And if course, you need to add the delicate ballad "And I Love Her", also present in the red compilation. But you must also go beyond the hits, because some so-called "deep cuts" are actually as good as those world-famous tunes. The best ones are found on side two, not devoted to the soundtrack of the promotional film that gave its name to the album (and filled the contents of its first side). There's John's lively rocker opening side two, "Any Time At All", with its elated vocal hook. And there are also Paul's "Things We Said Today" and John's "I'll Be Back", both oscillating between major and minor chords, to a mesmerizing effect in the listener. Those awesome tunes nicely foretell the later periods of the band, hereby establishing the genius compositional skills of the Lennon / McCartney songwriting team. *A Hard Day's Night* is the epitome of the first half of the band's career, when their massive success established them as the figurehead of the 'Mersey Beat' pop-rock sound. In all honesty, I think later LP *Help* is at least equally pleasant (and relevant) for that same period, with the same mix of legendary cuts and stellar outlier songs. But I guess that's a story for another time, kiddies... Number of albums left to review: 79 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 397 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 230 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 295
Still fresh and upbeat!
The whole album is great. Every. Single. Song. This is the best EARLY Beatle album. And they just kept getting better. If I Fell is one of my favorite songs, although I love them all. Harmonizing is so good. The opening chord is all you need to hear to identify the first song , “A Hard Day’s Night”. The way the last song, “I’ll Be Back”, fades out at the end is brilliant and the perfect ending to the beginning of more great music to come. How can anyone not like (or love) this???
The Beatles are one of my favorite bands, so I’ll be biased towards any of their albums. Is this the best from them? Not even close. I’m not sure it should be on this list honestly. If there was a Beatles album to leave off, it would probably be this one. But it’s still a 5 star album. Great top to bottom and fun in the unique way early Beatles albums are. Not their greatest, but still great.
I prefer mature Beatles (see Drugs) over 50's version Beatles but this still bangs super hard. When I close my eyes and think of the Beatles, I think of Cant Buy Me Love
Lots of classics that set up a half century of pop music
A great pop album even if the last couple songs are not perfect
Este le puede competir a Yellow Submarine o a The White Album, me gustó BUCO. 9/10.
Mitreißend, noch nicht zu verkopft, 60 Jahre alt und immer noch frisch! Absolutes Highlight!
Amazing
Love it
Not even my favorite Beatles album but they’re going to be an automatic 5 star for me in this project! Favorite track is Can’t Buy Me Love with close runners up of If I Fell, Tell Me Why, and Anytime At All.
A couple of historical notes. I vividly remember at age 9, going to see this at the Beaver Theater in Beaverton, Oregon, where we lived — don’t laugh. I recall it was great and there was lots of shouting and singing along in the theater. Not sure if I went with friends or with JB. Also, the US released album was a fair bit different than this English version that we are listening to. It had the seven songs from the film, along with one other track, I’ll Cry Instead, and then there were four George Martin instrumentals included that were fine but made for a kind of a weird album. The seven songs that are in the movie are all fabulous, and the other six are no slouches either. From my detailed book about every Beatles song ever recorded, John was the primary writer on 10 of the 13 tracks here. A classic.
Favourite tracks: hard days night; and I love her; tell me why; any time at all; can't buy me love; things we said today; when I get home
Their first perfect album. God, what an unbelievable set of songs. And the energy! Unmatched. My sixth favorite Beatles record, and it would probably be my favorite for about 98% of other artists. 5/5
What an awesome album. This one is what made them great in my opinion. I might like other album better from them, but they don’t become who they were without this album. Writing their own music. Amazing!
One of the best ones we have had. Love this album. Enjoyed every song on it.
What can you say! Arguably the best band ever. All their songs, even if bad, are great. Their music will be played for hundreds of years from now. Much like we listen to Mozart, Bach, etc., that will be the Beatles.
Excellent album.
Amazing album from the Beatles. Its short and fun, the entire album has catchy tunes and is just a classic that won't die.
I mean come on
Wall to wall bangers! Lennon/McCartney really coming into their own as songwriters and the whole group maturing as musicians. Couldn’t help but sing along the whole time, an outstanding pop/rock record.
The Beatles at their best pre Rubber Soul. These guys are perfection.
Beatles are the best ever
Gema
I mean come on, it's the the Beatles...
10/10. Continued on from “With the Beatles” album with another top notch album with even more creativity involved.
Who are the Beatles again? - 9/10
This was good. Shocker 😱😱😱😱. Also dojo is severely messing up my sleep schedule the fact that I am awake at 2:50 in the am is PREPOSTEROUS
These guys are on to something 9/10
A hard day's night (the song) is classic. The stereo sound is also incredible. Good harmonies on If I Fell. A few different styles on the album - the quick rock, and the relatively calm ballads. I'm probably biased cuz I've heard this album and I really like it. The sound is very pure - it's really easy to hear everything that's going on. The melodies are good and the lyrics are decent (a little corny or very literal.) I think you could put this on in most situations and it would be good, although you might get called a boomer.
Short and sweet at only 30 mins: doesn't outstay its welcome. Of course, later Beatles stuff is more interesting but these are great pop songs that catch your interest. Lennon seemed to be ahead of McCartney in songwriting prowess at this point, though both have great tracks on here. Only a couple of relative duds (the George fronted "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You", for example).
Literally one of their best albums oh man
I love her slaps so hard Apart from the very nostalgic sound, theres alot of good times attached to this album, and its pretty fun, jts never boring for sure
Day183 - what a great album full of the songs my mom listened to when i was little
A bunch of hits, great album
Pure pop. Pure perfection. Celebrate the 2 minute pop song!
An iconic and game changing album and movie.
Excellent album full of catchy and classic songs.
Oh man. Even better than I remembered. The Beatles are the best for a reason. Cooking with gas on some classic pop songs.

Nice!
It’s the Beatles. An absolute classic. Sure, we might be tired after hearing these songs for 60 years but c’mon, it’s a masterpiece.
Fantastic
Over 130 albums into this project, and finally I get my first Beatles album. This is a great one to start with, as it shows them early in the process of maturing from mostly covers to fully original songwriting. And it starts with probably the most iconic and recognizable single chord to kick off any album, ever.
This album gets you from the first note on the titular song.
The Beatles were coming into their own with the first album of all Lennon/McCartney songs. It would seem that this was still John's band at this point as he takes the lead vocal on the vast majority of songs. This album flies by at barely over 30 minutes. There's really nothing bad here, just a few songs that are less familiar. Enjoyed it from beginning to end.
I know I’m a Beatles stan but the “backlash to the backlash” kind of treatment that’s been going on recently to say they actually aren’t good is still so wild to me. Much has already been said and documented about the opening chord of a hard days night and I don’t have anything super creative or different to contribute other than just acknowledging that it is such a freakin iconic sound and incredible way to open an album (also fun fact, there is still open debate about every note that is played in the recording which is dope to me that it hasn’t really been officially locked down). Hard days night and can’t buy me love are obviously the bangers but I did enjoy some of the others as well that I hadn’t heard before. Lennon and McCartneys iconic fifth harmonies intermixed with tight unison is an easily distinguishable sound that we’ve already seen emulated on multiple early 60s albums on this list. It’s cool to start to see some of the unique compositions start to take place here in this early album that begin to become so prevalent in their later stuff such as with If I Fell which has pretty wild chord progressions, especially for this time. You definitely can’t buy my love but they can sure sing for it.
Rock and or roll
Classic Beatles album. Probably one of the best representations of the Pop era Beatles before they started to branch out.
Lo amo
I was happy to get this album this morning. I needed this after a poor day yesterday. This is a top album. The title track is iconic and the album has other greats like Cant buy me love and I should have known better. There are some real hidden gems to like any time at all and I love her. Favourite song: I should have known better Least favourite: Ill cry instead Album artwork: Amazing.
I love early Beatles and this is a good album. Somehow I've never listened to this album and it was an excellent surprise. Not as many favorite songs as on, for example, Revolver, yet over all this is a more solid album with a consistent sound. Swear I've never heard Things We Said Today and yet it just went straight into me and might be a new favorite.
Great Beatles album for sure. While this isn’t my favorite period of Beatles music, that would start with Rubber Soul and Revolver, I still really I enjoy listening to any of their albums so this was fun. Some of their biggest hits are on this one and that iconic chord at the top of the title/opening track is such a lighting bolt to start thing off! A favorite for me on this one has always been And I Loved Her, it’s the more stripped down-folky song on this album but it’s so haunting and perfectly conveys the desperation of young love. Looking forward to getting to my favorite Beatles albums but this was a good teaser!
"Everybody's born knowing all the Beatles lyrics instinctively. They're passed into the fetus subconsciously along with all the amniotic stuff. In fact, they should be called 'The Fetals.'" --Sliding Doors My dad was a mega Beatles guy and so this music was woven throughout my childhood. The Beatles have somehow just always been there, as if part of the natural world. The eras I know and like the best are their earlier and mid periods. This album exemplifies their early sound when they first broke into the US, spreading Beatlemania in their wake. I feel like there's nothing that I could possibly say that hasn't already been said about this band. It's cliché to laud the Beatles, it's popular among many to say they are overrated, but I can't help but to praise this album; for the genre, it is full of absolute bangers! Lennon/McCartney were songwriting masters who were able to absorb the great American rock and roll and R&B of the 50's, incorporate other influences, and somehow distill it into 60's pop-rock perfection. These early songs are melodic as hell, like most--if not all--Beatles tunes, but this album also gives sort of a nod to Latin jazz (or something) instrumentation on many songs, subtly incorporating things like hand drums and claves. It gives this album a cool, sophisticated, yet highly danceable, straightforward, unpretentious rock vibe that I love. I know these songs well but enjoyed listening to them again today, together with my kids, singing along joyfully while dancing around the house. This is a timeless classic; those screaming girls were right.
All killer no filler. I am an early to mid career fan of the Beatles. The later stuff is not bad, but the early to mid career stuff really resonates with me. This album gets straight to the point, short songs with immense, catchy hooks. Some songs have multiple hooks within the song. It includes one of my top 20 favorites from the Beatles which is 'Any Time At All'. Though I am very familiar with all but maybe 2 or 3 of the songs on the album, I don't think I've ever really sat down and listened to the whole album itself. Giving it a critical listen it really hit me that John Lennon is HEAVILY influenced by Little Richard. I knew this previously but it really stuck out to me on this album. The influences I hear are Little Richard, and Ray Charles on a lot of the choruses and Roy Orbison on a lot of the versus. Guitar tone and leads are Chuck Berry all the way. I remember watching a documentary where Paul McCartney said they had to write songs that were very catchy so that they could remember them easily to record them back in the day, and this album really shows that. Much like Led Zeppelin it's English guys that really were fascinated with Americana and American blues and jazz. I'm amazed how much mass appeal this album has. All age groups can listen to it easily I think. They write about everyday concepts that a lot of people can relate to. I really enjoyed this one. Solid, fundamental, straight forward songs with great hooks.
Classics, loved the noctalgic feling it gave
Not the best Beatle album but, great.
I like these guys
The pinnacle of the Beatles British Pop sound. Crazy to hear how much they evolved...
I love when we get these niche albums
5 stars
Not much to critique about the best rock band ever. This is still early and although all the songs are good Im biased cause its my favorite band and I have hesrd every song they ever made and mostly know most of the lyrics. Not their best but their mid stuff is better than most bands greatest album. This is not even in the top 5 beatles album and its still a 5 ⭐️
Liked Songs A Hard Day's Night I Should Have Known Better If I Fell I'm Happy Just To Dance With You And I Love Her Tell Me Why Can't Buy Me Love Any Time At All I'll Cry Instead Things We Said Today When I Get Home You Can't Do That I'll Be Back
The goats for a reason
This isn’t even the best album in the Beatles
Fabulous!!
Sixty years old, this recording. Astonishing. Lennon and McCartney confirming that were destined for immortality with a collection of stone cold classics and other numbers that most bands would have regarded as their finest hour. Not these guys: the genius albums were just around the corner and this is a mere stepping stone. Also, ears pricked up in California at the sound of George’s 12-string..
Yes and some more
I think every Beatles record on this list (are all of them on here?) are going to get a 5 from me. This one is just John ruling the world. Dominating. Totally understanding where the pop culture is at and nailing every move. The contributions from the Paul are great and the whole band /sounds/ awesome. Not to mention George Martin's work here is great also - the double vocal tracking on here is SO GOOD. Easy 5 - not apologizing
I don't feel great giving the Beatles a four but it's not their best. Ah I'll give it five.
This album is probably that kicked off my love for the Beatles. Fantastic album with some of the best rock songs (maybe more pop than rock by modern standards) out there. That slap you in the face chord that starts "A Hard Day's Night", to beautifully melancholic "And I Love Her" and "If I Fell", to the head bopping tracks like "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Tell Me Why". While not my favorite Beatles album, it's certainly firmly planted in my top 100 albums of all time. Also one of the best band movies out there. Making light of the Beatlemania of the time with a bunch of sly jokes. The media party scene with classic one-liners, like when someone asks Lennon "How'd you find America?" and he simply replies with a straight "Turned left at Greenland".
One of the most brilliant representations of bubblegum pop-rock from the 60s. Lennon and McCartney were so good at writing these short catchy pop songs. Just incredible.
one of the best beatles albums made, summer album.
The Beatles are the goats. 10/10 Album
Previously rated: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (5/5) Rubber Soul (5/5) With the Beatles (5/5) ************************************************ My favorite of the early Beatles albums. It contains some of my all-time favorites: I Should Have Known Better If I Fell Tell Me Why I'll Be Back I like the less than polished production here, like when the vocal harmonies come in at different times. It gives the songs an authentic feel and charm. I don't want a perfect sounding album. The only track I might consider filler here is Any Time At All, but not enough to skip it when I listen. I recommend watching "A Hard Day's Night," the film as well.
Great early Beatles that started it all!!!
This album really shows off the growing strength of the Lennon/McCartney duo. While not my favorite Beatles album or even in the top 5, this album really delivers and I think the simplicity of their earlier more-pop influenced sound makes it almost infinitely replay-able. 4.6 stars
Saw this movie at the Corbin theater and couldn’t hear for a week very loud screaming fun movie and great album!! Played the grooves off it😎
The fact that this album is overshadowed by SO many other Beatles albums is a testament of their genius. This album is back to back bops, and the most straight-forward stylistically of any of their “all original songs” albums. Not to say it isn’t without surprises - the opening of “A Hard Day’s Night” or 1:33 of “Tell Me Why” come to mind - but rather you know from the start you are gonna have a short, lively, and fun rock album and they 100% deliver.
It’s the Beatles
A love like ours could never die..
Obviously a classic but I much preferred every thing after Rubber Soul
Don’t really need to listen to this album as I know it off by heart and listen to it regularly. I was (and still are) a Beatle nut and I bought this album at the time playing it to death. Still sits proudly in my vinyl collection. Every track for me are greats. One or two I would say are all time classics - ‘And I Love Her’ top of the pile. Some say better albums were to follow but for me every Beatle album stands out on its own and are classics in their own right. Impossible to compare one album against another because the genius of The Beatles is that each album is unique. I’ve never considered this album to be a soundtrack as it sits well as well constructed set of songs which compliment each other. One of the characteristics of The Beatles and producer George Martin was that a lot of thought went into track orders and nothing was random. One exception was Twist and Shout at the end of the first album needed to fill in album time. The album does remind me often of my experience when I went to see the film whilst on holiday in Newquay Cornwall with my parents. As soon as the film began the females in the audience began to scream as if present at a live gig. The film was immediately stopped and the cinema manager came out front warning everyone that if the screaming continued the film would not be shown. Unfortunately this was the closest I ever got to experiencing a Beatles gig as during their touring days I was too young. 5/5 15/4/24
One of my favorite beatles albums. Really lovely sound and catchy tunes.
Det er så komprimeret at det skal høres 2 gange! Mindst, og så 2 gange mere! 30 minutter er perfekt for det her album. Høre den lige igen, og kvittere med en stjerne pr gennemlytninger.
Another easy 5 stars by the Beatles. It’s interesting to hear all the influence on this one. While the lyrics are so so the music is truly groundbreaking for its time.
Don't overthink it. Favorite track: Things We Said Today
This is obviously a classic album. Anything with the name Beatles on it is going to be cold. This isn’t my very favorite Beatles album but with that said all the Beatles album are my favorite Beatles album. 5/5
Los primeros temas de música para adultos que recuerdo. Una canción mítica tras otra. Enganchado desde el primer acorde de la Rickenbacker.
Banger, visste ikke at jeg var ferdig med det en gang
A Hard Day's Night If I Fell And I Love Her Can't Buy Me Love
Finally a Beatles album on Day 195.
It's The Beatles! What else is there to say? Their 3 album to date, first album from 1964 and it sounds like the first quarter of a best of album. This band stands the test of time. They truly were amazing.
Absolutely fantastic, Beatles will never die
Bach - Beethoven - Beatles
Easiest 5 so far. Sleeper tracks are definitely Any Time At All, I'll Cry Instead.
When Paul’s harmony comes in on “If I Fell,” … damn.
I love Beatles!
Exceptional
On bändejä, jotka svengaavat vetävämmin, joiden estetiikka on houkuttelevampaa, ja jotka vastavat paremmin siihen dekadenssin tarpeeseen, joka meillä kaikilla tuntuu olevan. Mutta mainitse yksi levy, jolla on näin monta nerokasta koukkua: A Hard Day's Night, I'm Happy Just to Dance With You, Can't Buy Me Love, Any Time at All, You Can't Do That... Kaiken kaikkiaan LP on pop-rockin huipentuma - ja valtaosin Lennonin vastuulla.
