I like the Garage-y songs and Somebody to Love and White Rabbit are amazing mostly due to the strength of Grace Slick's voice. Both of those songs come from Grace Slick's previous band I believe. I am a sucker for this era of music production, and I think the sounds on this are good. Not every songs however is that interesting but they are pretty brief. Not a bad listen but I probably am not going to reach for this again and again. The Skip Spence song is pretty sick. (My Best Friend)
The people's Champs! CCR are perhaps the best American band of the late 60's. Fogerty has such tasteful chops, that subtle pushing of the 2 and 4 on the acoustic guitar propelling the title track is exhilarating. This is the best CCR album in my opinion because it doesn't have 16 minute blues jams, bare bones no messing around rock and roll. Sorry haterz.
Definitely some top tier bangers on here. Some kind of meh stuff too. Probably tied for 2nd to me for Stooges lps. Favs Search and Destroy, Shake Appeal and Gimme Danger. I really hate the piano in the song Raw Power.
This sort of broke my brain in high school. I got really into the Pixies just as they were breaking up. I journeyed through their catalogue in reverse order. I thought this album was so insane at first. The Albini production, the little snippets of speech between the songs, Vamos guitar solo, all sort of changed my idea of what you could do with a record. Growing up super churchy I loved all the biblical allusions. Everyone contributes on this, Amazing Songs and Lyrics from Black Francis, Joey Santiago's guitar playing, Kim's ice queen backup vocals (and lead on Gigantic) David Lovering's weird reverse drum beats on Bone Machine. The songs are all bangers. OH MY GOLLY.
WoooooooooooooAhhh woooooooooaaaaaaaaaooooohhhhh. I think self esteem is kind of the platonic ideal of what these guys do. Really dumb lyrics I don’t mind the guitar stuff the vocals are really annoying. Always double tracked and singing at the absolute edge of vocal range always. Ska song was like if Sublime sucked even more.
Competent playing, but not for me. I hate this type of thing.
Definitely important but not really what o felt like listening to.
Maybe just my current mood but this album was sort of like a mouth sore.
I can’t imagine being able to write this many great songs in a lifetime.
Fun times sounds like weed
I had this on CD and lent it to Marie Andree Hudon in the year 2000 or so. Does she still
Have it?
Band on the run is pretty great. I love the transition between the parts jet obviously is a fun rocker. It starts to lose a little steam by MAMUNIA however all in all good time.
I kind of liked the folk rock production on dolphins with the tremolo guitar and drums, etc. i’m not sure why he would sing that he’s going to heaven in a split pea shell but I kind of like that 12 string warbley guitar.
This is a fun album lots of fond memories listening to this as a kid great sequencing. I love it up until about i’ll weight and the last couple songs are a little boring however, all in all a great fun record it’s only 33 minutes so you don’t get bored of it.
Such a part of me being nine or 10 hearing the songs on the radio all the time can’t say that I really want to listen to this that much as a grown man but all done
It’s funny how certain times of your life certain things are appealing and other times they’re repellent for some reason. I can’t really listen to Simon & Garfunkel that much anymore, but there was a time when I listened to them all the time. There’s something about Paul Simon where it’s sort of earnest but he also seems like he is not being sincere or something. I can’t put my finger on it. Dig the moog on save the life of my child.
This sucks I hate to go along with the sort of hipster music critic, consensus about eagles, but it’s just soulless and too perfect I just can’t with this stuff
Kind of fun not sure if I’m gonna be listening to this over and over but I do like the sounds of it where everything was so artificial sanding in the early 80s
I enjoyed this kind of strange hearing country music from Leeds in England, but I dig it. I might listen to this again.
How fucking long is this thing?
I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did. Maybe I am embracing my middle age. Some great lyrics nice grooves. I will probably listen again.
The production sounds a little dated now, but it is a cool mix of a bunch of different things, dub hip-hop, soul, reggae, etc. I like tricky the best and I think the tricky album Maxinquay and pre-millennium tension do the stuff on this better but this is still good
Kind of a mess I like the energy, probably not the best thing to listen to first thing in the morning while trying to work
I have listened to this album in the past and have been on again off again with it however, this morning‘s lesson it sounded awesome to me. Some things are kind of dated like the funky funk and the slap bas but they’re just some great songs I could imagine how great this band would’ve been with a good singer, but other than that, it rips.
Great one appropriate amount of wankiness no blues jams.
One of the best thrash albums. Good times.
Unsurprisingly I love this album. I think it’s hard to rate the first four pixies albums because they’re sort of different but excellent in their own way this one is kind of a subtle record sometimes even though it starts with a crazy rock song I love this surf elements on this and it’s a real guitar record.
Pretty great love the focus on Acoustic guitar. I have a great memory of Mike Martin playing tangerine perfectly and signing it and when he noticed we were all watching him he stopped.
This is prime LA music studio rock with a crazy cast of characters playing on it. I love Monday Monday. It’s one of the first songs I can remember wanting to hear again when I was a little kid I think because my parents record collection was all sort of early 60s pop it really infected my brain and that’s the that’s the type of music that I can relate to the most
Cool UK people sounding cool but leaves me a bit cold.
Not really my thing, nicely done though.
Kind of UR moment for new wave I love the record, but it’s obviously sort of difficult listening at times
So fun got this on red cassette when it came out loved it. I remember it didn’t sell well and Gavin and I going to White Oaks Mall and him finding the CD in the long box for $2.99 pretty sick so many highlights I really love the B boy bouillabaisse at the end. Hey ladies, this is a fun record.
Pleasant but not sure if it needs to be on the list
Great record, peak pitchfork indie hipster era.
This is really good. I think Radiohead is probably the modern Pink Floyd. What do you think?
Love the boom boom bap era
I kind of like this album, but this wasn’t really what I felt like listening to this morning.
I think it’s cool that they’re sticking to their Irish roots to make a sort of modern Celtic music record however, Celtic music sort of gives me a migraine and I prefer the songs that are less Celtic and more rock. The song about Hank Williams is terrible but maybe this just isn’t my thing.
Part of the streak of the great stone stuff, five stars
So good. DK is underrated in the discussion of hardcore bands.
This is probably the most lauded album of the sister rock genre. Anyone surveyed that has a sister has a great love for this. I think the Murphy family was no sisters didn’t know about this record, but I think they’re coming around to it. I’m not sure if Crystalyn has a sister, but we’ll find out.
Pretty much the only Christmas we listen to. So good!
Kind of a rip off of the Make Up but otherwise really good.
Never really liked this album too violent/misogynist.
Some truly amazing songs but also some bores. Not very cohesive.
I like her vibe, this is maybe not the best of her stuff I have heard.
I guess it’s good at what it does. The singles are pretty good, lyrics are crazy bad. Very of the time production sometimes ruined it for me. Too much Dx7 and gated drums.
Bee boop ah doo dah. I’m sure this is probably good but this type of thing grinds my gears.
Kind of boring, classic rock Steve Winwood obviously has an amazing voice, but whatever
Like it, not sure if it’s the album I would have put on the list.
Love this record. The only sometimes skip is we will fall which has a little too much John “serious” Cale influence. No Fun is probably my favorite.
Well produced but not super memorable. I think I would nominate other Brit pop over this.
One of the best of the golden era!
The first, second and second to last and last doors albums are all pretty enjoyable. Just a little too much blues on it, but it sounds kind of ragged and Jim’s voice is loud and almost distorting the mic, which is cool better than I remembered it.
Maybe not the thing I felt like listening to today but really good much better than that. Terrible double album.
Hard to not think about the allegations, regardless kind of fun to hear this for the first time in decades.
Pretty staggering, a band at their peak.
Up there with the best in their catalogue. I love this transition from ultra pop group to studio wizards. Great tunes
The song blues music is OK. The general sort of hippie white boy blues rap thing is kind of grating after a while. The song this ain’t Livin is such a direct rip off of the rap style of De La Soul. It’s kind of annoying that being said it would be fun to play slide blues guitar with a drummer playing licks, but this music is not for me. I feel like his voice is a put on as well.
The pixies know how to do it they make albums that have 15 songs or so and they’re about 30 minutes long. This isn’t my favorite pixies album, but it’s still great.
if I had to listen to a ska album, it would probably be this one. I guess it’s probably the best example of the genre.. in my opinion I guess I’m no expert on this stuff.
I guess it’s good at what it does, but I don’t like that.
It’s kind of a shame because he has such a great voice and a lot of these songs have really cool beats but super misogynist and it’s kind of jarring in 2026, especially with the puffy connection.
Actually kind of into this when they lock into a groove.
Like the screechy evil guitars.
Honestly, pretty good not sure when I’ll be going back to this one, but it is good.
I get why people like this, but it never really jels with me. It’s kind of like too perfect or something.
Fun very 70s glam rock. Crazy that this is a US band seems like the most British thing ever.
I like this but don’t love it. Never connected with this one.
I found the Talkie parts about George Wallace and stuff interesting but I don’t really need a book report and it was at least twice as long as it needed to be competent playing though and not completely unpleasant.
Kind of a downgrade after great of a black planet. Still pretty sick production. Steve keeps calling me and singing track 5 which makes me uncomfortable.
Compared to other sort of British blues obsessed 60s bands I think this is pretty good. Nothing’s really blowing my mind. However, I like I can’t make your way which is kind of like them doing the kinks or something which is another band that dabbles in this that kind of stuff.
Smart lyrics but found it boring
