1001 Albums Summary

This is not my era, but the album does hold up extremely well.

My expectations were low, but this was better than I expected. A lot of punk from this era blends together for me, but this stands out slightly.

This was interesting as a historical exercise at least; I am not sure if I have ever listened to an Elvis song all the way through until now. Long Black Limousine was a standout but the rest is not my jam.

This is a vibe; I liked the parts with the full orchestra in particular.

I prefer a more bombastic Prince

I generally detest Christmas music, but this was above average.

A deeply personal rap album and it's all bangers???

This is a super formative album for me. This is all over the map style-wise and they hit on pretty much every sound they try.

This is actually pretty nice; dare I say it would be better without vocals?

Out of the great and popular punk bands in the 90s, The Offspring are towards the bottom IMO.

Yeah I recognized more of these from the radio than I thought. This is solid stuff although the singles are overrated.

At least now I know where the sample from Even Shadows Have Shadows comes from.

Bob Dylan has never done it for me.

I mean on concept alone this is exceptional. Johnny Cash?? Playing at a prison?? And he plays a song criticizing the prison?? And then he plays it a second time right afterwards?? I'm also a sucker for live albums where you can hear the audience getting super hype. Unfortunately none of the songs hit that hard for me outside of A Boy Named Sue.

This is certainly pummeling... almost in a good way!

Nothing about this really stood out, but I feel like this is base of a sound that I would go on to like once it got refined later.

The Color and the Shape is way better than this, but I'm overall a fan of this sound.

Yeahhh I did not need a 20 minute version of Space Truckin'... I am a Deep Purple fan, but this jam band live album did not do it for me. Highway Star always hits though.

Within Metallica's discography, I prefer the highs of Ride the Lightning, but Master of Puppets is probably the more consistent album; nearly every song here is a classic.

Out of all of David Bowie's classic albums, this random one made this list of top 1001 albums?? His voice is still vaguely interesting here, but the instrumentation was pretty boring and too slow-paced for me. "I'd Rather Be High" stood out as being ok, but yeah this was largely a slog.

I feel like this sound has been done better, but this is still a solid listen.

Wow; this held up way better than I would have guessed. There are a couple standout tracks, but even the others are just good enough to keep the vibe going, and the record does not overstay its welcome.

This felt really cohesive, but without having all the songs mindlessly blend together. I liked this more than I expected.

This was my first time listening to Pixies and their sound was not what I expected at all. This was a solid and raw-sounding record.

I'm sorry; I know this album is super important, but I have to be honest with myself and admit this did absolutely nothing for me.

This was lit; it reminds me of being in high school and binging Death's whole discography.

Disc 1 was pretty boring, but thank god things picked up a lot on Disc 2 with more up-tempo tracks like Art of Dying. Overall I had a positive experience with this album.

This is the first time I have ever listened to CSN, and it was about what I expected - folksy stuff that is pretty much indistinguishable from all the other folksy stuff from the time.

I liked Pink Moon better but this was still fine.

On paper, I would hate this, but this one came out of nowhere. I am really digging it the atmospheric electronic elements.

It's crazy how much better this is than The Sensual World. I wish this site allowed half stars, but this is extremely close to being a 4/5.

I like the Doors generally but this pales in comparison to their debut.

I really liked the Eels song that was in Shrek 2, but this earlier album is just fine.

I liked this a lot more than Achtung Baby. I am still not a huge U2 fan but Sunday Bloody Sunday is up there with New Year's Day as their best single.

I wasn't really a fan of the result, but I appreciate this swinging for the fences and trying something singular.

Back when pop music was fun! I have a huge soft spot for this era and JT in particular. His partnership with Timbaland is super underrated in music lore. Cry Me a River is an all-time favorite pop song of mine and a great karaoke song as a bonus.

Probably the most pissed-off album ever made.

I can see why this is well-liked, but not my vibe.

There is a narrow range of neo-soul I like and this is not in it.

I am not generally a Billy Joel fan, but crazy how every song of his I do like is on this album.

My favorite part about revisiting all these old albums is to see where famous samples came from. Anyway listening to this is how I learned Hits from the Bong samples Son of a Preacher Man. It's a solid album too.

I preferred this to Highway 61 Revisited, but still not quite my jam.

I have listened to too many of these crappy indie albums for this and so one needs to pay the price. This is just one uninteresting track after another.
