Popular Reviews

Smash by The Offspring

Out of the great and popular punk bands in the 90s, The Offspring are towards the bottom IMO.

I wasn't really a fan of the result, but I appreciate this swinging for the fences and trying something singular.

The Doors by The Doors
Dec 21 2025

This is not my era, but the album does hold up extremely well.

Pink Flag by Wire
Dec 22 2025

My expectations were low, but this was better than I expected. A lot of punk from this era blends together for me, but this stands out slightly.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Dec 22 2025

This was interesting as a historical exercise at least; I am not sure if I have ever listened to an Elvis song all the way through until now. Long Black Limousine was a standout but the rest is not my jam.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Dec 23 2025

This is a vibe; I liked the parts with the full orchestra in particular.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Dec 27 2025

This is a super formative album for me. This is all over the map style-wise and they hit on pretty much every sound they try.

Playing With Fire by Spacemen 3
Dec 28 2025

This is actually pretty nice; dare I say it would be better without vocals?

Smash by The Offspring
Dec 29 2025

Out of the great and popular punk bands in the 90s, The Offspring are towards the bottom IMO.

Achtung Baby by U2
Dec 30 2025

Yeah I recognized more of these from the radio than I thought. This is solid stuff although the singles are overrated.

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
Dec 31 2025

At least now I know where the sample from Even Shadows Have Shadows comes from.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Jan 02 2026

I mean on concept alone this is exceptional. Johnny Cash?? Playing at a prison?? And he plays a song criticizing the prison?? And then he plays it a second time right afterwards?? I'm also a sucker for live albums where you can hear the audience getting super hype. Unfortunately none of the songs hit that hard for me outside of A Boy Named Sue.

Ramones by Ramones
Jan 03 2026

This is certainly pummeling... almost in a good way!

Blood, Sweat & Tears by Blood, Sweat & Tears
Jan 04 2026

Nothing about this really stood out, but I feel like this is base of a sound that I would go on to like once it got refined later.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jan 05 2026

The Color and the Shape is way better than this, but I'm overall a fan of this sound.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Jan 06 2026

Yeahhh I did not need a 20 minute version of Space Truckin'... I am a Deep Purple fan, but this jam band live album did not do it for me. Highway Star always hits though.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Jan 07 2026

Some decent tracks in the first half, but my god is this way too long.

Homework by Daft Punk
Jan 08 2026

Where it all began! I prefer Discovery, but there are many solid tracks here. The second half does drag a bit.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jan 09 2026

This really was the sound of the era, but unfortunately it is also really boring.

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Apr 03 2026

Feels like childhood. Completely over the top in the best kind of way.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
May 25 2026

Within Metallica's discography, I prefer the highs of Ride the Lightning, but Master of Puppets is probably the more consistent album; nearly every song here is a classic.

Jun 11 2026

The man behind the crossword clue! This album is ahead of its time, but ultimately not a sound I am into.

So by Peter Gabriel
Jun 12 2026

One of the better examples of this ethereal pop music from that era.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Jun 13 2026

I am a jazz beginner; maybe someday I will acquire a taste for it.

Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
Jun 14 2026

I wanted to like this more, but the surf rock influences are too strong...

Dummy by Portishead
Jun 15 2026

I am a decently big trip-hop fan, but Portishead has never really done it for me.

Soul Mining by The The
Jun 16 2026

I am officially a post-punk hater

The Next Day by David Bowie
Jun 18 2026

Out of all of David Bowie's classic albums, this random one made this list of top 1001 albums?? His voice is still vaguely interesting here, but the instrumentation was pretty boring and too slow-paced for me. "I'd Rather Be High" stood out as being ok, but yeah this was largely a slog.

Highly Evolved by The Vines
Jun 19 2026

I feel like this sound has been done better, but this is still a solid listen.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jun 20 2026

Wow; this held up way better than I would have guessed. There are a couple standout tracks, but even the others are just good enough to keep the vibe going, and the record does not overstay its welcome.

The Slider by T. Rex
Jun 21 2026

This felt really cohesive, but without having all the songs mindlessly blend together. I liked this more than I expected.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jun 22 2026

This was my first time listening to Pixies and their sound was not what I expected at all. This was a solid and raw-sounding record.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jun 23 2026

I'm sorry; I know this album is super important, but I have to be honest with myself and admit this did absolutely nothing for me.

Black Metal by Venom
Jun 24 2026

This was lit; it reminds me of being in high school and binging Death's whole discography.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Jun 25 2026

Disc 1 was pretty boring, but thank god things picked up a lot on Disc 2 with more up-tempo tracks like Art of Dying. Overall I had a positive experience with this album.

Faith by George Michael
Jun 26 2026

This is not the type of 80s pop I like; I found it pretty boring.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Jun 27 2026

My expectations may have been too high for this one... It was just kind of background noise to me with nothing really standing out.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Jun 28 2026

I actually kind of vibed with this. I enjoyed it in the same way as I enjoy like a Michael Hedges.

Screamadelica by Primal Scream
Jun 29 2026

Wow I am shocked this was released during the 90s. There were some good moments here, but overall the record was way too long.

Imagine by John Lennon
Jun 30 2026

I am running out of ways to say album could be ok but the genre is not my thing at all.

The Sensual World by Kate Bush
Jul 02 2026

Very ethereal, but none of her best songs are here.

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Jul 03 2026

This is the first time I have ever listened to CSN, and it was about what I expected - folksy stuff that is pretty much indistinguishable from all the other folksy stuff from the time.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jul 04 2026

I liked Pink Moon better but this was still fine.

Signing Off by UB40
Jul 05 2026

Wow an hour of reggae may be my personal hell

Jul 06 2026

It is crazy how for genres I don't listen to very much, it feels like every artist has no unique identity at all.

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Jul 08 2026

I mean this guy's voice is inseparable from Toy Story. This is just ok though.

Bright Flight by Silver Jews
Jul 09 2026

Way too slow-paced for me

La Revancha Del Tango by Gotan Project
Jul 10 2026

On paper, I would hate this, but this one came out of nowhere. I am really digging it the atmospheric electronic elements.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Jul 11 2026

It's crazy how much better this is than The Sensual World. I wish this site allowed half stars, but this is extremely close to being a 4/5.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Jul 12 2026

I like the Doors generally but this pales in comparison to their debut.

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Jul 13 2026

I really liked the Eels song that was in Shrek 2, but this earlier album is just fine.

War by U2
Jul 14 2026

I liked this a lot more than Achtung Baby. I am still not a huge U2 fan but Sunday Bloody Sunday is up there with New Year's Day as their best single.

Lam Toro by Baaba Maal
Jul 16 2026

Bummer. This was not my thing at all. The instrumentation was super boring.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Jul 17 2026

I liked that this had a bit of bombast to it.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jul 18 2026

As a live album this was just fine, but The Who have overall aged pretty well compared to their contemporaries.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Jul 20 2026

This was too mindlessly noisy for me.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 21 2026

Dude the first half of this album is actually quite good!

Jul 22 2026

I wasn't really a fan of the result, but I appreciate this swinging for the fences and trying something singular.

Justified by Justin Timberlake
Jul 23 2026

Back when pop music was fun! I have a huge soft spot for this era and JT in particular. His partnership with Timbaland is super underrated in music lore. Cry Me a River is an all-time favorite pop song of mine and a great karaoke song as a bonus.

Marquee Moon by Television
Jul 25 2026

I can see why this is well-liked, but not my vibe.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Jul 27 2026

Wow I can see how this became so influential; it's kind of pure joy.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jul 28 2026

I am not generally a Billy Joel fan, but crazy how every song of his I do like is on this album.

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Jul 29 2026

Kind of a cool change of pace, but extremely one-note.

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
Jul 30 2026

Sex on Fire is one my favorite modern radio rock anthems, but other than that this album is so-so.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jul 31 2026

This is a cool sound but extremely monotonous.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Aug 01 2026

My favorite part about revisiting all these old albums is to see where famous samples came from. Anyway listening to this is how I learned Hits from the Bong samples Son of a Preacher Man. It's a solid album too.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Aug 02 2026

I preferred this to Highway 61 Revisited, but still not quite my jam.

Skylarking by XTC
Aug 03 2026

Dear God is a classic, but the rest of this album is boring.

Aug 04 2026

Am I heretic for thinking this album is pretty meh? At least I know the names of all the songs that get played ad nauseam on classic rock radio now.

Dig Me Out by Sleater-Kinney
Aug 05 2026

This is not really the kind of punk I am into, but there are a couple good moments here.

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Aug 06 2026

This is way ahead of its time, just pure noise.

NEU! 75 by Neu!
Aug 07 2026

This was better than I expected; I liked the balance of the soothing first half and more aggressive back half.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Aug 08 2026

I have never listened to Steely Dan much, but this is actually above-average dad rock. There are a wide variety of sounds on display here in just 34 minutes.

Woodface by Crowded House
Aug 10 2026

This is pretty generic and inoffensive, but I didn't mind it as much as I expected. Whispers and Moans was a standout track.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Aug 11 2026

I liked The Slider somewhat, but this is nowhere near as good. A surprisingly boring album.

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Aug 12 2026

I can kind of vibe with Bruce's early albums but this was not it.

Aug 13 2026

I'm grateful for what this sound grew into, but this isn't quite what I want from punk music.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Aug 14 2026

None of my favorite Led Zeppelin singles are here, but this definitely a strong foundation for what was to come.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Aug 15 2026

I've never gone all in on Radiohead, but this album blew me away. The ending kind of dragged, but the beginning and middle were so good.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Aug 16 2026

All these jazz albums have been tough for me to get into, but this one felt even more monotonous than usual.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Aug 18 2026

Oh my god there are so many David Bowie albums. This one is on the better end, but still doesn't rival his peak material.

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
Aug 19 2026

I have listened to too many of these crappy indie albums for this and so one needs to pay the price. This is just one uninteresting track after another.
