A Hard Day's Night

Old school beetles when they were at their most 'pop'. Really like the theme of love and romance and the Ballards mixed with the really dancy pop songs. Good album.

The ONLY bad thing I have to say about it album is how short it is!

Haven't really done super-deep dives on any pre-Rubber Soul Beatles records, so this was fun - every song under three minutes and the whole record done in 30. Even the songs I wasn't familiar with were immediately catchy. Rightfully thought of as the pinnacle of this era.

Possibly the best of the Beatles Pop albums. Features all time great tracks like ‘Hard Days Night’ & ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ as well as some lesser known greats like ‘I Should Have Known Better’

The best of the early Beatles records, and the peak of their early pop, Beatlemania years. The quintessential pop album by the quintessential British band. First album of fully original material and every song is a winner from the opening iconic chord of the title track, to the unexpected and premature fade out at the end of 'I'll Be Back'. What's staggering is this would be most bands high point yet the Beatles would get better than this, albeit their best albums would be purely studio affairs. Much has been written elsewhere about this album, it's influence and legacy but all you need to know is that it is that good and is easily a 5 star affair.

I enjoyed this album a lot. So iconic. 4/5 stars.

Is there anything better, really?

Sometimes a regular album sounds like a greatest hits record. Although this style is not really my cup of tea in general; but, it's hard to deny the appeal of "can't buy me love" and "Can't do that". Basically, any of the can't songs.

The first Beatles album containing only original compositions finds the greatest songwriting duo of all time still honing their craft. They won't get it perfect until Help! one year later, but there's enough on this record to show that this lot are here to be taken seriously as composers, not just mop-haired pop stars. Lennon's wicked tongue launches its two pronged attack on, 'I'll Cry Instead' and, 'You Can't Do That', fueled by insecurity and childhood resentment, which contrasts superbly with McCartney's more refined and palatable, 'Can't Buy Me Love' and, 'If I Fell'. They're on their way.

A good album but quite a few filler tracks and now sounds dated.

(même si ça reste un peu guimauve) Fav : i'm happy just to dance with you + and i love her + can't buy me love C'est vraiment l'album qui résume les Beatles : très efficace, ça envoie, que des hits ou presque, mais c'est à double tranchant : ça pète un peu le crâne. Dès qu'une chanson (de 2-3 mn) se termine ça rebalance un hit.

При всем качестве песенного материала можно посетовать на однообразие аранжировок на данном этапе. Впрочем, Beatles и стали одними из первопроходцами в проявлении фантазии в области аранжировки композиций. А песни очень классные. Пятерки попридержу для каких-нибудь личных любовей (интересно, когда наступит этот момент в данном списке?)

it has some nice themes, however these themes could have been explored more or a bit more unique. this album felt a bit boring to listen to, there is not that much substance to it lyrically. musically though, it is okay.

’m a much bigger fan of John than Paul mostly due to the Beatles post touring years. Regardless, a John dominated LP suits me just fine. Very solid album with only a  few minutes of filler.  And HDN is from the days when few bands (particularly white bands) putting out  a lot of pumping music.

Knew some of the songs for this one! Nice to have on while working in the kitchen.

Jangly upbeat skiffle-era Beatles. Some forgettable songs, two mega-hits, and replay-able mid-tier tracks. Wish there were more bands mimicking this phase of the Beatles.

Bin ja nicht so ein Jünger der bratzigen Boy Band Phase der Beatles. Viel ist einfach schon arg über-repräsentiert und so gefallen grad die mir eher unbekannteren Stücke wie „Things we said today“ oder das tolle „And I love her“. Schlanke 2.8

Sehr interessant, weil mitten in der Übergangsphase aufgenommen als Kaiserkeller und Star-Club gerade mal ein gutes Jahr zurücklagen, die ganze Welt in den Monaten seitdem aber auf 41 Grad Beatlesfieber zugesteuert war. Interessant auch, weil sich hier abzuzeichnen beginnt, was 5 Jahre später zum Ende der Nummer führen sollte: dass der Mann mit den größten Ambitionen und dem leicht besseren Händchen für die ganz großen Nummern wahrscheinlich McCartney war/ist, während Lennon die Edge, den Biss und die Disruption galore besorgen wollte und konnte. Und so pubertiert sich das hier lustig adoleszent vom Skiffle-Erbe („Anytime at al“, „When I get home“) durch harmlose Teenienummern („Should Have Known Better“ und „If I Fell“) zu ersten echten Ambitionen mit Schielen auf väterliches Approval von George Martin („And I Love Her“) und sich Bahn brechender Erwachsenen-Gemeinheit nach Lennon-Geschmack („You Can’t Do That“). Sicher nicht der Beatles größter Wurf, aber schöner Einstieg für die Plauderrunde.

Primero dejémoslo claro, es un buen disco... ok ahora sí.... Los Beatles eran una Boy Band, puede no gustarle a mucha gente, sí es cierto tocaban sus instrumentos, sí componían algunas canciones, sí siempre fueron talentosos... y no se hicieron famosos por ninguna de esas razones; los Beatles se hicieron un gigante porque tenían peinados lo suficientemente rebeldes pero aceptables para las escuinclas que comenzaban a generar hormonas; punto, no hay más. En realidad todo el inicio de la banda y esa época de canciones super pop de rocanrol en su mayoría covers si bien tiene su lugar siempre he pensado es sobrevalorada al extremo solo por ser "los Beatles." Este disco se siente muy como la cola final de esa etapa, aquí ya son por completo canciones suyas pero el sonido y letras siguen siendo el de hacer canciones pop para muchachitas, de hecho si comparamos este con anteriores hasta el sonido de rock que había se va un poco y musicalmente es todavía un pop más inofensivo que lo que hacían en algo como Meet the Beatles. Las letras igual siguen siendo solamente de "oh mi chica mi chica como la quiero uuuh si que romántico el amor de la fuente de sodas" en su mayoría (excepto por el poco punto de "John Lennon es un hdp" diciendo cómo va a madrearse a su novia por hablar con otro muchacho). El disco en general como mencionaba es agradable, tiene un par de canciones con puntos casi brillantes como el acorde antes de A Hard Day's Night; hay ya atisbos de que son más que la boy band, que aquí hay creatividad por explotar pero en realidad no siento que llegue a ese punto y sigue siendo un disco para masas bonito, fácil de escuchar y bien hecho para lo que es. Es un buen disco, y vendrán discos impresionantes de ellos; pero este todavía se siente como casi prefabricado en muchos aspectos.

El álbum me ha gustado mucho, normalmente no me gustan muchas canciones del mismo álbum, pero este fue la excepción, siento que el álbum va muy con como soy yo, tiene muy buenos ritmos, movidos o lentos. Gran álbum

Album molto piacevole da ascoltare, nella sua semplicità. Le melodie sono originali e specialmente le prime canzoni sono molto orecchiabili. Traspare il carattere ancora giovanile della band.

Obviously great, probably deceptively simple, though things like the country/surf/flamenco tinged rhythm guitar of And I Love Her hints at things to come. The lyrics, though sharp, are pretty basic and by the numbers pop love blossoming/love in peril stuff

Es muy complicado ser objetivo con este álbum (quizá con cualquiera de los Beatles, de hecho), pero lo intentaré. Como dato curioso, las primeras canciones que conocí de los Beatles fue por un disco llamado "Oldies but Goodies"; una compilación con algunos de sus primeros álbumes donde venían "A Hard Day's Night" y "Can't buy me love". Esas dos canciones tenían un sonido particular que jamás habría logrado interpretar hasta que leí la reseña de este disco: la Rickenbacker de 12 cuerdas. Nunca había escuchado este álbum completo y en orden, y había un par de canciones que probablemente nunca había escuchado antes, y que no me gustaron tanto: "Anytime at all" y "I'll be back". En una situación normal, eso haría que el disco no fuera 5 estrellas, pero si por otro lado se considera la importancia histórica de este disco, la decisión no resulta tan sencilla. Claro que no soy nadie para dar una opinión tan tajante, pero podría afirmar que no hay nada similar a este disco en esta época . Es rock, sin duda, pero un rock raro: mucho más complejo musicalmente que el "rock & roll", pero a al vez fresco alegre, como si fuera pop, un término que ni siquiera sé si existía en la época. También es interesante cómo lograron incorporar algo de "folk" y quizá algo de blues, pero sin perder su esencia propia.

Dato curioso, para ser un disco dirigido a las masas preparatorianas de ambos lados del charco la mayoría de las canciones son de Lennon, para esas fechas ya estaban posicionados y podían hacer lo que quisieran, pero a mi parecer no es ni por asomo su mejor disco aunque si te da chills ese primer acorde al inicio del disco

G7sus4 ¡PUM! Abres un disco dándole con todo a ese acorde explosivo y raro y lo dejas sonar para entrar con una canción cuyo título es contradictorio y difícil de entender a la primera. "A Hard Day's Night" es desde mi punto de vista el disco en el que los Beatles se dan cuenta que pueden hacer lo que se les de la gana. Para empezar, es teóricamente el soundtrack para una película que podría (y tal vez debería) no existir y de cualquier manera está lleno de hits. No solo eso, es el tercer álbum completo que lanzan tras tan solo año y medio de haber sido "descubiertos" por Brian Epstein y durante este tiempo además de grabar tres discos estuvieron en una gira por Reino Unido y Estados Unidos y filmaron la película. Y además de ser el tercer LP, es el primero en el que el no tienen ningún cover. Tener covers era lo normal en aquel entonces, un poco para llenar el tiempo y un poco para mostrar habilidades al retomar canciones que ya habían funcionado con otros. Sin tener ni un cover, el disco es totalmente suyo y les permite meter una gama muy amplia de tracks, desde algo que es casi un bolero con guitarra acústica (And I Love Her), temas con sonido de Folk aunque sin ese tipo de letras (Things We Said Today y I'll Be Back) y cosas que aún suenan al Rock 'n' Roll de la década anterior (You Can't Do That y I'm Happy Just To Dance With You). Otro detalle a notar es como sus propias letras van cambiando. Por un lado, las de estilo de Paul, que aquí son dulces y evolucionarán a ser cursis; y por otro lado las de Lennon, que ya están llenas de celos locos y agresividad que se notarán más en los siguientes discos. Para acabar, la portada. Quizá sin contar Please Please Me, todas sus portadas son icónicas y esta no es la excepción. Que por cierto no sería icónica si las disqueras se hubieran quedado con la portada diseñada para la película.

First record of all originals, and it's ridiculous that there are no duds here. Encapsulates the early era heights before they start evolving.

It's The Beatles, it's woven into the essence of my being, it's always been there because Mum loved Lennon. Even when I hear songs I don't think I know it turns out I suddenly know all the lyrics, like it's part of some collective memory we all have now. It's the ultimate pop record, but above all else, it makes me smile like a fool.

They'd already announced themselves to the world before this album came out, but it's their first (and only) album to be comprised entirely of Lennon-McCarthy compositions. John contributed more songs, but for my money, Paul's are better. And I Love Her is the standout on the record, and Things We Said Today is maybe their most underrated early offering. Best track: And I Love Her

I've always thought the Beatles are one of the most overrated bands of all time. It's not BAD (it's honestly pretty catchy) but it just simply isn't the high point of pop culture people claim. This album is full of cheesy 60s shit lyrics, doesn't even have the innuendo other artists SLIPPED IN to get past the smut police. It's a 3/5.
