John Martyn
3/5
This was somewhat interesting. Only because I'm not really sure why this would be anyone's favorite album. There are far better in the genre
7 likes
Faith No More
5/5
My own pick. Way more representative of the band than The Real Thing. Patton got to put his stamp on this one, and it's a roller coaster of influences rather than a single sound.

Backstreet Boys
1/5
No joke, this could be the worst album of either list. This is terrible, terrible schlock.
Daft Punk
4/5
Wow. This might be the best way to experience Daft Punk. Much more exciting and improvisational, dynamic, and surprising, even when I enjoy some of their stuff on record.

5/5
In the right setting, this slow, harmonious, quiet, and deliberate album is just perfect. Dark, but beautiful in its minimalism

Chromatics
4/5
This is some Kavinsky-type stuff. Loved it. First user-recommended is a hit.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
1/5
I'm not sure how to rate this because I literally couldn't hear anything. Talk about minimalist
Primus
2/5
Tommy the Cat displays the talent that is worth paying attention to here. Everything else is redundant
Café Tacvba
3/5
I was ready to give up on this too soon. After the first few tracks it became obvious that I never knew what was going to come next. This is some incredible, engaging diversity.
Rachel Stevens
2/5
I want to commend the presence of such an album, because it's almost to be expected on a user list that you would get things like this, that are randomly just people's personal favorite albums.
In terms of value for everyone else though, this is as generic girl band bubble gum Pop as it gets. It was a snooze fest.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
2/5
In order to provide the concept of continuity front to back, they just made every song sound identical. It's an ok song.
Susanne Sundfør
3/5
Solid!
Amadou & Mariam
2/5
Respect for adding some actual more worldy music. It was listenable.
blink-182
5/5
Believe it or not, I've never listened to this one all the way through. I don't know why. It's a classic, and it should have made the list. The touchpoints here are incredible, from the now played out huge hits, to Adam's Song, which hinted at the future and bigger things.
I keep seeing comments about another Blink album on the list. I never saw one?
Angelo De Augustine
3/5
That was a lot of falsetto. Not bad though.
Protomartyr
1/5
The singer ruins this
Steven Wilson
1/5
I don't understand the appeal of this. It's so bland.
2/5
This was creative, but too indulgent. A much more difficult listen than I anticipated.
Gurrumul
1/5
Adam Green
1/5
This is what it would sound like if Cake turned out for the worse.
This dude is obnoxious, which is a shame since the clear focus is on him and his lyrics above all.
Weezer
5/5
This was possibly the biggest miss on the list. The band may have inconsistencies over the years, but this was a classic when I first heard it.
The Alan Parsons Project
2/5
The weirdest part of this album is that the music doesn't fit the tone for Poe's writings. Which would seem to defeat the whole purpose.
TOOL
4/5
This album is right where I left it. Dark, twisted, loud, complex, angry, and full of talent, but also very much a product of its time. It still deserved to be on the list.
Childish Gambino
4/5
He stretches himself and mostly comes away with it, though it doesn't sustain across the album. This dude can do almost anything.
The Decemberists
4/5
This was perfect for a snowy day. Creative, zen, harmonious, quiet. Excellent stuff.
Anaïs Mitchell
2/5
I have nothing but a question mark about all of this. Why does it exist? Why would this be nominated to the list? HUH?
The Mountain Goats
2/5
Unique, true to it's name, but got stale.
Harmonium
2/5
Progressive orchestral? Unique genre but ultimately a foreign language snooze fest and overly long. Not engaging at all.
My Chemical Romance
5/5
Stone cold classic, and totally unexpected. This should have been on the list. It's a talented emo band who channeled an incredible moment of inspiration for an album not only head and shoulders above the rest of their output, but which legitimized the genre. They created a sound, borrowing from Queen, which transcended the scene and has not staled 20 years later.
Bad Religion
5/5
I'm mad my review didn't save.
This is a 5 star album and a new fav that I will go back to. I'll also listen to much more Bad Religion. I originally commented that my early-mid pop-punk/punk lane always went toward Offspring, and this was a miss I feel badly about.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
For as much reluctant credit I gave Bruce on the main list when his songwriting was great, this is everything I dislike about him.
MF DOOM
5/5
For me, this is Doom's peak. Effortless talent on display through light, almost throwaway topics. Killer sampling, always interesting and humorous.
Chappell Roan
3/5
This was actually pretty solid, and I found the singles to be the worst tracks.
Biffy Clyro
5/5
Mon the Biff!
Loving that this showed up. This isn't as proggy and weird as their early stuff, not as mainstream as their latter content...while it isn't the peak of their output it is a great glimpse. I've loved this group for a long time and even have MMORPG characters long named for them. This is a fun entry to see.
INXS
3/5
Solid stuff. Underestimated this for sure.
blink-182
5/5
I can't believe that this album is better than enema..
I have never listened to the full thing and my greatest recollection of this record is my college roommate buying it the day it came out and then throwing it out his car window halfway through because he hated it so much.
I don't understand that. This one seems to have aged great. They slowed it down a little bit and matured a whole lot. There's some good songcraft on here. It's indicative of future as well. In fact, I see a lot of +44.
John Martyn
3/5
This was somewhat interesting. Only because I'm not really sure why this would be anyone's favorite album. There are far better in the genre
Joan As Police Woman
3/5
Solid Sunday morning tunes. Loved "I Defy."
Debbie Gibson
2/5
The most 80s mall pop to ever do it. I give credit that she wrote her songs though. A fun, short, dated bop that I'll never listen to again.
The Weeknd
2/5
This is a singles record. The hits are hits, the rest blends together in sameness.
Men I Trust
4/5
Smooth. Jazzy. Modern. Indie. Tremendous.
3/5
This was worth a revisit. Much different than the debut. More in line with Beck. I missed guitars, but Mr E's Beautiful Blues is a killer track.
Shania Twain
3/5
I will give credit. My recollection is that this record was massive. It's catchy, it's sassy, it was a moment for sure. That said, it definitely isn't for me.
5/5
In the right setting, this slow, harmonious, quiet, and deliberate album is just perfect. Dark, but beautiful in its minimalism
Chucklehead
3/5
This was kind of cool. Definitely funk with a lot of other genres mixed in. It definitely felt of its era.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
2/5
This was so obnoxious. Niche college jam nonsense without vocal talent. At least throw a live DMB.
The Sound
2/5
This just sounded old. Not unlistenable but not worthwhile.
Kaizers Orchestra
2/5
What a weird one. I guess Europe had the Kaiser Chiefs too.
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
4/5
Some recognizable classic brass tunes, light and fun to listen to.
Thee Oh Sees
3/5
Raucous live punk. Not bad but have no context for it.
Avicii
2/5
Well, there was one keeper here at least. Strange how some of these tracks were more "country" tinged than EDM
The B-52's
2/5
I don't think I understand this band.
The Marcus King Band
3/5
A unique add to the list: modern Americana. Dude's voice is great.
Jóhann Jóhannsson
2/5
Blips and bloops
2/5
More indie whining
First Aid Kit
2/5
Indie whining
Alexisonfire
5/5
Grandfathers of modern day post hardcore. Thank you to whomever added this. Love it.
Garbage
4/5
Never gave Garbage a chance. Should have. This is pretty solid.
Hombres G
2/5
Dated but an interesting non-US non-English blend of styles
Gotcha!
2/5
This was described as funk but I didn't draw the connection
Nuyorican Soul
2/5
Nice diversity, samples
Faith No More
5/5
My own pick. Way more representative of the band than The Real Thing. Patton got to put his stamp on this one, and it's a roller coaster of influences rather than a single sound.
Crash Test Dummies
5/5
Look, this can easily be overlooked as weird. The thing is, it's sincere as hell in it's weirdness. It's catchy, it's unique, it's lush, and it is also of it's time while also somehow lasting. It never crossed my mind that this album should be on the list, but when it popped up, I sure got excited.
Savages
2/5
If I had to have guessed I would have put this band in the mid '80s. It has the same post-bunk sensibilities as the Cure. So imagine my surprise when I learned this was only about 10 years old.
Daniel Bélanger
2/5
It's difficult to give credit to foreign language outcomes that you can't follow, and it's even harder when the genre is easy listening.
The Posies
3/5
Catchy stuff. In small doses, a throwback to a sound I wasn't big on at the time but is engaging enough.
Cardiacs
1/5
I couldn't. I thought we were through with the insufferable with the 1001 in the rear view and these being used picks.
Who would do this? Is it a prank? 90 minutes of a cacophony. One star. Bottom of the heap. I refuse to torture myself.
Streetlight Manifesto
2/5
I wanted to like this more. Ska/rock fusion but the songs are too long, and yes, too loud. Too much going on.
Garmarna
2/5
Enjoyable euro folk
Alex Cameron
3/5
An 80s throwback with some clever lyrics.
Sunny Day Real Estate
3/5
Always wanted to give this album a shot. Exactly as anticipated, which was fun for a bit, moody, proto-emo, but now dated a bit.
Mogwai
3/5
Instrumentals were cool, expressive, groovy, but repetitive.
That Handsome Devil
3/5
Cool, loose stuff. A million influences and genres in a blender, jazzy to an extent. Enjoyed it.
Screaming Females
3/5
Some of this was bland, but there were a couple tracks that were absolute keepers. I like the vibe.
LaBelle
4/5
Another that could have made the list in place of extraneous repetitive 80s British pop rock. Classic sound here, and a classic tune.
Damien Rice
4/5
Quality.
Childish Gambino
4/5
This album is a bit all over the place, and continuity/flow seem often interrupted. A lot of good stuff still to be found, but not as cohesive as his other stuff.
The Chats
3/5
Good punk rock
Roky Erickson
4/5
It's as if Tom Petty's Zombie Zoo met the Cult for an entire album.
Amon Düül II
2/5
Guitar masturbation...but in psychedelic German
Chet Baker
2/5
Quiet, thoughtful, slow jazz. Great snoozer.
Robyn Hitchcock
2/5
This is not the Robyn I hoped for. Dude annoys me.
Vampire Weekend
2/5
Summery, light, forgettable.
The Burning Hell
3/5
This is nothing like I anticipated. Don't judge a book and all that. Expected hardcore punk, got Cake lite.
Charli xcx
3/5
Too much auto tune, and oh my the accent. Other than that, a good time.
Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera
2/5
This started out with a roll call and some solid, unique songs, but then it devolved and went on too long.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
I wasn't expecting much, but some of this hit. Especially 4th of July.
Extrechinato y Tu
3/5
This was cool. Spoken word poetry over some steady guitar riffs in Spanish language. I dunno what they said, but I enjoyed hearing it.
Igorrr
4/5
This was unique. Operatic-dub-goth metal with the most random and unique screaming, and lots of quiet folk in between. Points for not sounding like anything else and still being listenable and entertaining.
Calibro 35
3/5
A lot of foreign content on the user list. This was diverse and held my attention.
Sampha
2/5
The kind of light soul/pop my daughter would enjoy
Status Quo
2/5
Cookie cutter 70s rock
Jeff Rosenstock
5/5
Perfect punkish/90sish/Weezerish throwback. No notes.
Ani DiFranco
1/5
It sounded like Alanis morissette wailing over a jam band.
It was not good.
Billy Squier
5/5
This exceeded any expectations I could have had. Gave it two listens. Classic album, I would argue. Had no idea how many hits were on this thing. Dude sounds like he carried Zeppelin into the 80s.
The Upsetters
2/5
I don't like dub.
Sublime
2/5
It's hilarious that I just scorched the last pick for being dub and so what do I draw next? The teen angst version of dub.
This is way worse than I ever suspected, even though I never gave it the time of day when it was new. They've got 3 good songs.
Yeasayer
4/5
Eclectic, but great background music.
The Dear Hunter
4/5
Heard of this band but never heard this band. This is not what I expected. Coheedish/The Decemberists in concept and sound. Nothing stuck with me and it was overly long, but a great listen.
Neutral Milk Hotel
2/5
This album has a reputation, but I'll be honest...I've now listened about 3 times and I'm not getting it.
Transvision Vamp
2/5
Incredibly genred d-list 80s era stuff. Barely worth a listen 30 years ago.
Killswitch Engage
2/5
Wrong KSE album
Operation Ivy
3/5
Cool band but simply too rough around the edges for a consistent quality
Karnivool
5/5
Blew my mind. Thought it would be piss-poor numetal. Instead, it's thoughtful prog rock displaying incredible talent. Need to dig deeper on this band.
The Amazing Devil
4/5
Hooked me immediately and unexpectedly. I'm liking these epic folk albums
They Might Be Giants
3/5
Quirky, entertaining
Joe Cocker
3/5
Dudes got talent and soul for days
Arctic Monkeys
1/5
I hate Arctic monkeys.
And they found a way to make me hate them even more. They went lounge. This was awful.
Carly Rae Jepsen
5/5
Fantastic pop
Kayo Dot
1/5
Metal noise.
Joe Jackson
2/5
A classic tune plus a bunch of soundalikes.
TOOL
5/5
Ticks and leeches puts this to a 5 by itself.
Koritni
3/5
Black Crowsish bluesy hard rock. Won me toward the end.
The Stooges
3/5
Weird to review an album on this list that is knowingly bad for several reasons. The band couldn't keep time with each other, the crowd was literally attacking them...I guess this is representative of punk, right? Solid bit of history here.
Mull Historical Society
2/5
Voice was over the top but the music was fine.
Madvillain
4/5
Not my favorite Doom, but my first Doom. Awesome.
Frank Zappa
3/5
Somehow, this was ok. The concept, the songwriting, it was at the least engaging.
4/5
I missed this band somehow but they would have been up my alley in their day.
Haley Heynderickx
4/5
Calm and enjoyable at 5 in the morning
Marillion
3/5
In the vein of Rush and Genesis with a vocalist who takes some time to acclimate to, but this was pretty cool.
Mylène Farmer
2/5
I don't know what to say about this.
I'm just going to steal another review. It's a combination of Enya and Madonna. And it didn't really vibe with me.
Bloc Party
3/5
Energetic stuff that brought me back to Guitar Hero days.
The Hold Steady
3/5
Bruce/heartland rock filtered through modern rock sounds. I want to give this more credit and I was into a few songs for sure...but this dude's voice and vocal approach wears on you.
Dave Matthews Band
3/5
There was a time I was into DMB. I remember rushing out with school friends the day this album dropped.
Nostalgia is strong, and beyond that, the band is talented. These leans into world music/fusion stuff. But it is just so long.
Daft Punk
4/5
This is the superior daft punk album.
Excellent stuff
Jellyfish
4/5
They are all in on Queen and Beach Boys. That's for sure. Not a bad listen.
Nightwish
1/5
This was so so bad. Just unredeemable.
The Beautiful South
1/5
Another stinker. This got old, real fast.
The Postal Service
4/5
Much better than I anticipated. Such Great Heights is a tremendous song.
Martha
4/5
Tagging this for later. It's too new to make sense on a list like this, but the sound is right up my alley and I enjoyed the rotating vocals.
Bob Mould
3/5
I love this guy's voice, but some of the songwriting is boring
Margot & The Nuclear So And So's
2/5
A hint of Radiohead here and there but the rest is generic mush.
Kano
1/5
I hate brit rap. Hate it.
Maldita Vecindad Y Los Hijos Del 5to. Patio
4/5
Loved it. Very cool injection/combination of all sorts of influences.
Jimmy Eat World
5/5
Futures is the Jimmy Eat World classic for me, but this sets the table and carries their hits. This should have made the list. It is early 2000s emo. It's also pop, rock and accessible for a diverse audience. Holds up incredibly.
Sparks
2/5
This sounded dated.
Ornette Coleman
2/5
Every tune literally sounded identical
Nik Kershaw
2/5
More 80s not so great stuff. Couple good tunes, not much to say.
Hikaru Utada
2/5
Credit for something the formal list didn't have, just to cover bases and diversity. But it didn't appeal to me
Modest Mouse
2/5
Nah, I'll take their poppy stuff
Backstreet Boys
1/5
No joke, this could be the worst album of either list. This is terrible, terrible schlock.
Jimmy Eat World
3/5
This album isn't quite what I assumed it to be. There's a lot of stuff in here that lines up fairly closely to what comes in the future. Although that final track is incredibly grating and could have been half the length.
The War On Drugs
3/5
Way better than my expectations, but it's one that only works with a mood. Springsteenish, and the songs all sound the same, but it's a good song.
Pedro The Lion
3/5
This reminds me of local h.
I have to say that I am partial to this because out of every single album on this list, this one was put out by a record label from my hometown. And that's pretty cool. Go Jade Tree.
Louis Armstrong
3/5
Solid stuff although I felt like a psycho listening to this in the car on the way to work
Amyl and The Sniffers
2/5
I like the attitude but the vocals wore on me.
Khruangbin
4/5
I listened to this twice. And it was easy to do. It flew by, it was a little jammy, but overall just good vibes.
Chloe x Halle
3/5
Hot and miss RnB. Not bad.
King Tubby
2/5
As far as dub goes, this is about as harmless and pain-free as it gets. Full instrumental, short tracks, only half an hour long. I'll take it.
The Angelic Process
1/5
This had absolutely no redeeming qualities
Bon Iver
3/5
Some worthwhile stuff to sift through but a bit whiney and aimless.
Freestylers
2/5
I was going to totally diss this as a waste of time...I can't figure out though whether they are using very well known samples or whether their music is the source for some very well known samples. Either way, it's too much.
Salif Keita
3/5
Most of this wasn't available. The little that I did here was pretty engaging with a talented vocalist and enjoyable music.
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
I like this! Vocals a bit bland but pretty jangly 90s rock.
Snarky Puppy
2/5
A solid switchup for some modern jazz/fusion.
Death Cab for Cutie
2/5
I like the Postal Service better.
Screeching Weasel
3/5
I can't knock this. I've got vague memories of freshman year with someone in my homeroom having a patch on their backpack. Never listened to them. Not sure why.
Jimmy Buffett
2/5
This is one of those artists where you wonder who in the world actually listens to him, even though everyone knows who they are.
With that said, this was nothing special. And I didn't notice the theme that I assumed was going to be so prominent.
Wussy
3/5
Cool vocal diversity, wide array of influences...
Cluster
1/5
Noises. Why would someone add more albums like this onto the list?
Oingo Boingo
3/5
My criticism here is the songs are too long. Otherwise, this was surprisingly solid.
Gang of Youths
4/5
Impressive how the string transitions fit so seamlessly in this. Long...but very solid album that pulled me in.
Sufjan Stevens
2/5
Twee overload
Fontaines D.C.
2/5
I'm not that interested in this mostly monotone talky proto punk
Freddie Gibbs
3/5
Good pick, not a known artist for me, surprised at how modern it is because it's a bit of a throwback
Slowdive
3/5
I feel like there was a perfect opportunity for this to be on the official list. My mind is blown that they somehow would have left it off. That doesn't mean that it must appealed to me. But it wasn't bad.
The Jesus Lizard
2/5
Proto-post hardcore, but mostly yelling
The 1975
3/5
I'm not big on this band, but even I know this isn't close to their best album
Roger Waters
2/5
Interesting premise but I feel like it only plays out if you are on some sort of mind altering substance.
Switchfoot
3/5
This sounded just like where I left it 20 years ago. Some relistens allow for reevaluation. This didn't. It's just fine, and was just fine then, not really worth coming back to.
Polvo
2/5
Stealing the thoughts of another reviewer, I'm starting to notice a theme with some user picks in this 90s sludge/noise rock vein. This isn't better or worse than any of the others.
Great Big Sea
2/5
This was a left turn. Folk sea shanties? I don't know how to score stuff like this.
Tally Hall
5/5
This was very cool and perfect for the list.
Eclectic, diverse, creative, thematic...
GAS
3/5
This worked. Ambient noise is a nice departure. Not much other description I can give.
Tori Amos
2/5
She has her audience and I'm not it
100 gecs
3/5
Stupid, but catchy, produced to the point of absolute insanity. Don't know how to rank it.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
5/5
This chest sounds classic. It has me thinking back to a time that I never even experienced.
Taken as singles, I'm sure one could argue that they're overplayed and stale. But as an experience this is definitely propping up the genre.
The Tragically Hip
3/5
Catching up. This was not what I expected even though I thought I knew of the name. Not a bad listen.
The Caretaker
3/5
One of the most unique albums. One of the creepiest albums. An auditory analysis in memory loss and dementia. But I have no idea how to rate it. 3?
Manchester Orchestra
5/5
Loved this. Hit me right. Nuff said.
Talk Talk
3/5
I feel like I would have called this boring if I didn't bother to say "don't I know these guys"? Wikipedia told me I did but they dropped the 80s synth and invented post rock. Well, ok. Good on them.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
2/5
The last album pulled me in but this was too much.
Mary Chapin Carpenter
1/5
Awful, awful 90s AOR/pop/country
Stromae
3/5
Euro/French dance beats. Ok
Procol Harum
3/5
Solid themed Brit rock, sounds of it's era.
Guy Clark
3/5
Old country is still a million times better than modern pop schlock country.
Daft Punk
4/5
Wow. This might be the best way to experience Daft Punk. Much more exciting and improvisational, dynamic, and surprising, even when I enjoy some of their stuff on record.
R.E.M.
5/5
This is, for me, a stone cold classic. One of the 1st CDs I bought, and I still absolutely love it. One of my 2 favorite REM albums (Monster being the other one - and they couldn't be further apart in sound). They were in a groove here, and some of it may have aged a little poorly (Radio Song, Shiny Happy People) but they are catchy as anything, and they are held up by the absolutely beautiful melancholy of some of the other tracks. And that bass in Belong - yes please!
Josh Ritter
3/5
Good folky tunes. Literally never heard this name before.
Vulfpeck
2/5
I don't know who these guys are. Is this a modern group? Do they have a DMB like following for funk/jazz fusion? Why does this vocalist not fit the band? More "guests" please.
Also, I'm starting to resent the submitted list as people just plugging in the longest albums possible.
Arca
1/5
Terrible noises
Lo Fidelity Allstars
2/5
No thanks
Shudder To Think
2/5
Early post hardcore is very different from modern post hardcore.
And this vocalist is on a completely different page then the rest of the band. It's kind of ridiculous actually.
Björk
1/5
It is disgusting that another one of these albums got added
Valerie June
4/5
Loved it! Perfect fit for the list. Might share this with my wife
The Vaccines
4/5
Another unknown, solid selection.
The Avett Brothers
4/5
3 days, 3 solid picks. Enjoyed this one. Some solid modern folk/Americana
Porter Robinson
3/5
The best ambient album I've come across
The Tragically Hip
4/5
This is somewhere in the REM...slightly DMB vein with a harder edge and I am loving it.
Alexisonfire
4/5
For me, not a classic by AOF, but excited to see it anyway. This gave George the spotlight rather than a balance with Dallas.
This one didn't quite get there
Phish
1/5
To the person who selected this, why do you hate me?
Earth, Wind & Fire
4/5
Possibly better than the selection on the official list
Times New Viking
2/5
A lot of short bursts of distortion
Les sheriff
2/5
Cool addition but it amounted to 70 minutes of the same 2 minute song
Tosca
2/5
Sure is a whole lot of ambient stuff on the user list.
How are you supposed to distinguish this?
Portishead
1/5
no thanks. terrible, terrible vocals.
Titus Andronicus
2/5
too long, and not exactly what I had hoped it would be.
The Breeders
3/5
Bass heavy, of it's time for sure. Fast, easy listen
TOOL
3/5
Solid singles but not the best of their discography. I have a feeling every album will eventually be here.
Type O Negative
3/5
This band has always been pretty unique in their space
Stars
2/5
Somewhere between Death Cab and the Pumpkins, but I didn't care for it.
Beyoncé
3/5
I reviewed this...that's strange. Kendrick and Jack White remain the highlights.
Sam Fender
3/5
I dig it.
Jai Paul
4/5
Whatever this was, basically a demo/mixtape of an artist I've never heard of, it was fun, lively, and fast.
Bon Iver
3/5
Don't know this artist well but I'm sure this was a left turn. Some pieces worked better than others. At least it wasn't 90 minutes
Graham Parker
2/5
Voice fits right between Petty and Costello but the song writing isn't there
Noname
2/5
A little slow for me
Yo La Tengo
3/5
I can see the appeal of this but it didn't stick with me
Bran Van 3000
3/5
Wild veering from one genre to the next, and from one singer to another. Interesting but long and tiring. This list is wearing on me.
System Of A Down
5/5
This is unique and creative enough with a lot of showcase to talent that it outshines its pigeonholed genre.
The Chameleons
3/5
So...the Cure? It's fine but boy is it familiar.
Courteeners
2/5
This was fine
Johnny Winter
3/5
When it comes down to it, this is what every single '70s classic rock album sounds like. This is it. In 35 minutes. And so I give this artist credit for distilling it down that quickly.
Richard Dawson
1/5
This was awful. Atonal, rambling garbage.
2/5
A very excellent, catchy pop tune surrounded by auto tuned nonsense.
THE SPORTS
3/5
The name immediately reminded me of Huey Lewis and the news. The sound isn't terribly far off from that.
New Model Army
2/5
Obscure, random, British, 80s. Definitely in line with the main list.
Tame Impala
4/5
Incredibly catchy. A bit of its time, sort of like MGMT, but thoroughly enjoyable.
Al Stewart
2/5
Eltonish.
Jack Johnson
3/5
If chill is your thing, this is the album. It's front loaded though.
Jon Batiste
4/5
Excellent, diverse, engaging, fun
Medeski, Martin & Wood
2/5
Atonal tooting
Olivia Rodrigo
3/5
I'm not the audience. The topics are waaay juvenile for me, and single minded for sure. Leads to repetition in content but the music is surprisingly diverse as are her vocals. Just a few too many ballads.
Courtney Barnett
2/5
This annoyed me, partially. I caught on at the end after a couple listens, but that was enough.
The National
4/5
The vocals threw me at first but this was pretty solid
Magdalena Bay
2/5
Boring weird pop
Fontaines D.C.
2/5
I tried this a couple times and got nowhere with it. More misses than hits lately.
Emicida
2/5
Noise that annoyed my daughter.
John Coltrane
2/5
It's cool, daddio.
Marillion
2/5
Old prog stuff. Good voice, went on too long.
CAKE
5/5
I could almost tip this to 5. This was a big one for me at a memorable time as a teen. It was incredibly unique to me, and the lead trumpet instrumentation incorporated into this sort of music was so cool to me as a player. Quirky, catchy, silly, fun. Ok, sure. Make it a 5.
Os Mundi
2/5
I do not understand the justification for putting this on the list.
Jason Isbell
4/5
Not the best of Jason that I've heard as this strays a bit toward conventional country. But there's some real keepers here and I enjoyed it a lot.
Enter Shikari
3/5
Better than I'll admit. When I was like 5, I have weird memories of kind of haunting harmonies in my sleep. I never knew where it came from. This album replicated that sound. Crazy. There's a bit of Welch post hardcore sound here, some grating, some enjoyable.
Talking Heads
2/5
It took me 4 listens on this one. They have some good tunes though and it holds up live. But this adds nothing to the list.
Songs: Ohia
2/5
Not a thing grabbed me.
Korn
2/5
This was cringe.
Chris de Burgh
2/5
I couldn't reconcile this as being the "Lady in Red" guy. And then suddenly, I could. Some of this is pretty out there.
Pearl Jam
4/5
This was a left turn from 10 but also more modern to my ears. Been a while.
TOOL
2/5
I had a feeling that this was going to be on the list like every other tool album. But it shouldn't have been. Because it commits the worst crime possible for a tool album. It's boring. It's overly long and it's just simply boring. Every song sounds the same.
Lady Gaga
3/5
I don't know if it's cheating, but the choice here should have been The Fame Monster.
Not that this isn't a solid album, although it's front loaded. But the add-on that she completed is an all-timer for me.
Dead Boys
3/5
Tuneful, straightforward.
The Who
3/5
Maybe blasphemy, but I didn't enjoy this much other than the last track. I have to give credit for history though.
"Weird Al" Yankovic
3/5
You know, Weird Al has a place on the list. I dunno if this is the right album, but I get the sentiment.
Electric Callboy
3/5
Trashy, but fun
Touché Amoré
3/5
This spoken screams wore thin, but apart from that I kind of got into this
Vangelis
2/5
Never saw the movie and I don't understand this pick
Duncan Dhu
2/5
This was too long but mellow and listenable
Wishbone Ash
3/5
Some decent prog stuff
A little brash for being "folky".
David Baerwald
2/5
This did nothing for me
Ty Segall
2/5
This sounds like music Marc Maron would enjoy
Deafheaven
2/5
What the hell man? 50 minutes of unintelligible screaming?
Boredoms
1/5
I'm starting to think this user list is just an opportunity for trolling and I'm beginning to really be over this shit.
Baroness
5/5
Double album may have been a stretch trying these guys out, but there's good stuff here to dig into.
Boards of Canada
2/5
A second needless long album from this group
Pink Floyd
3/5
2nd best PF album...with only 3 songs
Boy Azooga
3/5
Actually, it didn't stick with me but in the moment I enjoyed it
Ween
2/5
I hear a lot of praise for their diversity. This was diverse...like Weird Al is diverse?
Neil Cicierega
3/5
What a weird joke. Talent though
Floating Points
2/5
Ambient jazz. As sparse as it gets.
Turnpike Troubadours
3/5
Solid Americana country. Very much enjoyed most of this
Various Artists
3/5
I saw this movie once. I'd made no sense. But Time Warp rules.
Psyche Origami
3/5
I'm going to try and give this credit for being a throwback to a different era in its time, but for me it just all sounded the same.
Harry Styles
2/5
LOL
Kashmir
2/5
Started out promising but it only had one droning note and speed
Scraping Foetus off the Wheel
2/5
It as terrible as the score would indicate, but dated and scatter shot 80s nonsense.
HELLYEAH
1/5
I really outgrown this style of music, but I feel like even if I hadn't this would suck
Fall Out Boy
3/5
Some fun songs, maybe short of a great album
The Lumineers
3/5
Not to my liking but ok
Bruce Hornsby
2/5
Snoozefest
Modern Life Is War
2/5
This kind of reminded me of something good (Rise Against) but it wasn't that.
Deltron 3030
3/5
Del is cool and so is the production
Espers
2/5
Game of Thrones type music
Refused
3/5
Wow, I knew some of this! Should have been on the true list
Michael Hurley
2/5
Some of these lyrics raised a random eyebrow but this was otherwise pretty flat and boring
Shpongle
1/5
No, I'm not
Living Colour
3/5
This seems significant but doesn't hold up, unfortunately.
Rita Ora
3/5
Fine but boring modern pop
Comus
2/5
Didn't strike me very much. At this point I have heard other similar folkish off center stuff.
Maybe this came before?
Blackalicious
4/5
Excellent MCs, production. They had me in the 1st 60 minutes. Then it got a little stale
Chico Science
2/5
Foreign rap/rock that went on too long
John Mayer
2/5
The man has hits, but he's so boring
Ian McDonald
2/5
Good Sunday background stuff
Denzel Curry
4/5
Solid stuff worth exploring more
Yellowcard
4/5
Nearly a classic of my college years. A cool setup for a pop punk band with a violin, your standard nasally vocals, and some nostalgic lyrics. Holds up.
The Heads
2/5
This was something I thought would be cool, but ended up a mess. They got lost in the changeover in sounds in the 90s, and the guest vocals weren't that great.
Various Artists
1/5
I am more and more convinced everyday that the user list is simply trolling me
BABYMETAL
2/5
This was tolerable for about a song. And then it became incredibly grating
Jaco Pastorius
2/5
Boring Spanish bass jazz
David Allan Coe
2/5
Yes, that's a country album
Frightened Rabbit
3/5
Like Biffyclyro if they tamed themselves down. Not terrible.
Q65
2/5
60s-ish stuff. Interesting at times.
Paramore
3/5
Not their best, but a good pick.
Savatage
2/5
If I can step outside my own cringe, there is obviously some talent here. But wow. This definitely isn't for everyone.
Alabama 3
3/5
Okay. This was a very cool addition to the list.
Warren Zevon
2/5
Maybe this one's on me, because it seems to be well liked. I just thought this was weird.
Cat System Corp.
2/5
One and done listen. I wanted to feel the concept, but it failed
Vampire Weekend
2/5
Somehow better than their debut but also less memorable
Bon Iver
3/5
Ambient, well-written. That last song sounded like Christopher Cross.
Black Devil Disco Club
3/5
Kind of strange electronic, yes leaning on disco. Not quite what I was expecting, but listenable.
Hamilton Leithauser
2/5
This guy was obnoxious
Death
2/5
Just like 80s thrash, but with a growler
Metric
3/5
A keeper
Spinvis
2/5
Challenging listen, this was. Foreign language, spacey instrumentals, kind of harsh vocals
65daysofstatic
3/5
Rawkus, energetic, and dark. Pretty moody instrumentals maintained engagement.
Everything Everything
3/5
The quality of this didn't hold through if from start to finish, but it was definitely an interesting album with some decent songs. It seemed almost like a modern take on Talking Heads but with some pretty dark and politically themed lyrics.
Future Islands
2/5
The single was there, and it's a keeper. But the rest of the album didn't follow through.
Yoko Ono
1/5
F this and the troll it rode in on
The Cure
3/5
Not bad for a Cure album.
Arthur Russell
2/5
More lo-fi stuff. Engaging but not repeatable
Mustafa
2/5
This reminded me of some R&B my kids listen to. Solid voice but his affect gets stale.
Billy Strings
3/5
I'm gonna say this was well-crafted and the guy likes pot. Yep, those are my takeaways.
Sports Team
2/5
Brash, punchy, and forgettable.
ISIS
2/5
Instrumentals are solid if a bit slow. Vocals aren't my thing
Chuck Berry
2/5
He was trying desperately to make a comeback on his gimmick here. This shouldn't be on the list.
Barenaked Ladies
1/5
Production on this was hollow, they sound too jokey but flat at the same time. I didn't like this.
Crass
2/5
They named themselves appropriately.
Zamilska
3/5
Like NIN instrumentals, but more techno. S'ok.
Robyn
3/5
Solid Europop with better singles.
Agalloch
3/5
This is likely worth a second spin.
Wet Leg
3/5
I wanted to like this more than I liked it
Bohren & Der Club Of Gore
2/5
Dark, slow jazz. Both kind of cool to hear a modern spin, yet still unbearably boring
Shihad
2/5
A dated, slightly knock off, modern rock sound. Unique for this list, but not great.
Nic Jones
1/5
This was just so, so terrible
Glass Animals
3/5
Indie pop with a defined sound and at least a few good tunes
Reincidentes
3/5
Spanish punk? Don't often get into such a genre. Well added.
Mac Miller
2/5
This was slow, dark, included very little rap, and was...boring.
Ozzy Osbourne
5/5
Wow.
3/5
Hit and miss. A bit disappointing considering how much I enjoyed pieces of it.
Lift To Experience
2/5
Overly long and garbage
Porcupine Tree
2/5
Darker, droning, not very interesting
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
4/5
Unique and terrific sound. Cool collabs, outside my comfort zone but a solid addition to the list
Spose
3/5
A lot of hate in the comments but this was pretty cool
Rodríguez
3/5
Now I release the Black Keys straight you stole their sound from 40 years prior
Nujabes
4/5
Very cool jazz rap
Paul McCartney
3/5
This is fine but I don't see a need for it on the list
Danny Brown
2/5
Terrible and annoying
Auri
3/5
Game of thrones music. A bit dramatic overall
Getatchew Mekurya
3/5
This was a cool collabs of worlds
Pop Will Eat Itself
4/5
This had a very cool standout and a sound that was entertaining.
Turnstile
3/5
Up my alley but somehow not the standout I'd expect with it being added to the list.
Charles Aznavour
4/5
Euro Sinatra. Kept it lively.
Malibu
2/5
Why the need for more ambience?
Descendents
3/5
This was definitive for some friends of mine. It's my first time through. I feel like I missed it by not hearing it in my youth because now it doesn't seem special
2/5
Sounds like it should be about 30 years older than it is. That's niche.
Weezer
5/5
When the oddball nerd group becomes the slightly creepy nerd group. Still, this is a classic.
Aesop Rock
3/5
Korn graphics, white rapper with a weird affection. Solid rhymes though
Quicksand
3/5
Real old school post hardcore. Respect, cool sound, but not repeatable much
Gerry Cinnamon
4/5
This is nothing if not always interesting. I like.
ROSALÍA
2/5
I don't get it.
Songs: Ohia
4/5
Another Americana, alt-country highlight
Current 93
1/5
No. No. No. No. No.
