Celebrity Skin by Hole

Courtney Love called out Harvey Weinstein before most people said a word.

Joe be looking pretty fly on the cover and Cornbread Moon is a great song title. A mix of honky tonk, and classic Texas country, it can be a little corny, but I think it's easy to listen to. Great voice, with nice clear production. If you are not a country fan, I don't think you'd hate this but it probably won't change your mind about it. It is definitely way better than whatever the hell they're making now. Some of the slower songs sound samey but Boxcars is an absolute standout.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age

QotSA is incredible and are one of my favorite bands. This album is very good, but not as polished as their later work. I love Josh's vocals - they compliment the heavy instrumentals perfectly. The album is long enough, so there is no need for bonus tracks from the reissue, but they are great nonetheless. The music only gets better from here and I would rather the list have included Songs for the Deaf and Like Clockwork, which are absolute masterpieces. Fave songs: Regular John, Avon, If Only, Mexicola

Guero by Beck

The album is very cool and unique, and it incorporates many different samples and styles. Beck is the bomb.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós

This album is a snoozefest... but it sounds beautiful and has great production. If you like loooooong instrumental, dreamy songs with random singing , then you will love this. It is unfortunately not my thing, cool fetus though.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Feb 14 2023

Clearly talented... some classic tunes, and easy to listen to. Unfortunately, very repetitive and not really a complete album, more just a collection of songs. I wouldn't listen to any of them on my own.

Is This It by The Strokes
Feb 15 2023

Listened through a couple times over the years...I like it, but I wish I 'got' it like everyone else. It's short, over before you know it, kind of repetitive, and no true bangers to be found. Like the sound, but wish it went harder. Last song my fav...Julian's best song is not on this album, look for it on the album Incredibad :) 3.5/5

The Visitors by ABBA
Feb 16 2023

I had never heard any of these songs before listening, only knowing the older hits from the 70's... The album starts out with a banger but doesn't quite keep that momentum going the whole way through... Still good, glad I listened! Abba is cool! Synth is cool! 3.5/5

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Feb 17 2023

I have never listened to Willie Nelson before... and this was definitely not the way to start. Learning that this album was his 22nd and he went against his label to make an all oldie covers album was interesting, but he adds nothing and the result is boring and sleepy. His voice is nice, but everything is too monotone and the songs just run together. Zzzzz 1.5/5

Feb 19 2023

The Beatles beat all their instruments and sing about drugs. This is my first time hearing a Beatles album in full. It sounds ahead of its time. Very good production and a great mix of all kinds of songs, but they all feel like they belong and make a complete project. Its cool to hear experimental music and sounds this early on. Listening to it now, I believe that this would change the industry.

Vincebus Eruptum by Blue Cheer
Feb 20 2023

First time hearing of this band and record. Reading the wiki, I see this is one of the first bands to play heavy metal. The production is almost non existent, and it's pretty rough to listen to. It also seemed like they kind of made it up as they went along. I feel like they didn't know how to start or end any songs and it all just blended together into an almost never ending noise. It felt like time moved slower when listening to this, even though it's pretty short. These ratings are about my personal taste, and just because it was the first, doesn't necessarily make it good. 1.5/5

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Feb 21 2023

First time listening to a Bowie album in full and knowing only his hits.. it was pretty sick. This is all very good and then you have Life on Mars? which is on another level. A cool man and a cool album. I am looking forward to more.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Feb 22 2023

This album is a snoozefest... but it sounds beautiful and has great production. If you like loooooong instrumental, dreamy songs with random singing , then you will love this. It is unfortunately not my thing, cool fetus though.

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Feb 23 2023

These are clearly talented musicians, but this was just not my taste. Very chill, relaxing background Spanish music that kind of all just blend together to me and nothing really stands out. I bet if you're really into this sound though, this is a top tier album for you. It made me want to visit a Cuban restaurant and drink and eat. 2.5/5

1989 by Taylor Swift
Feb 24 2023

This album is pretty good. Some great songs with catchy beats and well written lyrics... Also, there is Bad Blood, which is terrible. Taylor is a smart lady. Adding Max Martin as co-producer made this album, and her, unstoppable. Don't scoff at this album just because it is newer pop music. There is at least something here for everyone. 3.5/5

Feb 25 2023

This album is hard to rate due to it being a soundtrack for a movie I have never seen, since there is a lot of repetitiveness and I'm sure having context for scene setting songs and dialogue parts would heighten the enjoyment. I loved a lot of what I was hearing - really dark, chill, and moody. I think this would definitely fit better on a 1001 soundtracks list, someone please make that!!!

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Feb 26 2023

This is a classic white guy rock album. Super talented musicians bring a long ass double album filled with plenty of variety. It probably should be shorter but there are some great songs on here. Robert Plant's voice does get a little grating after a bit, as he loves 'singing' ooh and ahh a lot.. but the other guys carry this shit so hard, as they have through every album.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Feb 27 2023

This was one wild and wacky album. It felt like one long drug fueled jam session, though not always consistent or even coherent. It starts off one way, kind of calm, and completely becomes something crazy by the end. The last track is so insane, it might actually be the most genius thing to ever be created. I think I am just too normie to get it. 2.5 funky farts out of 5.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 28 2023

This is great music that gets white people turnt. It may be overplayed, or even overrated, but you can't argue that the bangers keep coming and they don't stop coming. This feels like a greatest hits album, something here everyone would enjoy.

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Mar 01 2023

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to to this shit, it's boring and monotonous. All I could think was shut the hell up - with her terrible voice, while the same repetitive guitar and flute play off beat for 45 minutes. "It Was A Pleasure Then" could be used in the third act of an A24 horror film as a character gets tortured. Reading the wiki, I found out she was probably a Nazi, so fuck you.

16 Lovers Lane by The Go-Betweens
Mar 02 2023

This album is white bread - simple and bland. Big weakness is the vocals; not my favorite; an even worse Bono? Nice, clear and pleasant instrumentals - I liked the harmonica. Most songs are pretty basic and lightweight. Some might enjoy that, but a lot left me wanting more. It's harmless and inoffensive music, think other bands did this sound better. Fave song: Was There Anything I Could Do?

Mar 03 2023

George Michael was a really cool, and talented dude. This album has a slower, more somber and mature sound. He has a beautiful voice that is used well. Overall, very easy listening... but sort of boring. I wish it had a little bit more, it's too clean, and most songs are uninspiring. Fave songs: Freedom! 90, Cowboys and Angels 2.5/5

NEU! 75 by Neu!
Mar 04 2023

A mix between white noise soundscapes and German Mick Jagger yelling. It starts off a real snoozefest in the first half - calming, instrumental, drone music if you like that stuff... THEN he starts mumbling secret messages into the microphone while ocean sounds play in the background...THEN the beat kicks up and he starts yelling like a freak while playing punk rock... THEN it turns into Silent Hill on the PS1... THEN I had to go to Youtube to listen to the last song, and it's back to The German Rolling Stones. I actually liked the second half. 2.5/5

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Mar 05 2023

Heard of this group, didn't realize they made 100 albums or scored GTA5 (sick). Weird alien space electronic music. Mostly calming but sometimes spooky. Sounds like it could be the score for a 80s sci-fi film.. I believe this sounds ahead of it's time, but not really for me. 2.5/5

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Mar 06 2023

Music make you lose control. This is Sega Dreamcast music - electronic music that doesn't elicit much emotion apart from just party rockin. Some cool sounds, and some that are really annoying and repetitive. Mostly not my thing, last 2 songs were neat. 2.5

Diamond Life by Sade
Mar 07 2023

This is sexy, saxy music! Patrick Bateman would love this shit. There is A LOT of hate on this album but I love me some smooth jazz because I grew up listening to it and I just love this sound. It's perfect background music, but with a little funk added in. Sade has such a pleasant voice and I think she adds enough soul to make this not so incredibly bland. I can agree it probably is too boring and clean for some people to enjoy, but it's a winner for me. Fave Tracks: Smooth Operator, Hang On to Your Love

Live! by Fela Kuti
Mar 08 2023

Usually not a fan of recorded live music, but this really sounded great. It's kind of one long free form jam session so I don't know how much you would want to repeatedly listen to it. I do like the sounds of the instrumentals, especially the horns, just not so much the drum solos. The production was really nice, you can tell this is created by great musicians. Reading the comments I would like to hear Fela Kuti's other music at it seems even more interesting than this.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Mar 09 2023

I like harmonica, but whoa, cool it dude. Okay, so the BIGGEST issue with this is his voice, it is absolutely hilarious to me. Maybe if I had been listening to this since 1967 I would have gotten used to it, but this is my first time listening to a Dylan album in full. I already knew what to expect with his voice, but having it constantly in my ears for over an hour is really hard for me. I had better get used to it though, cause I know I have another 100 Dylan albums to get through on this list. I enjoy blues, the lyrics seem well written, and this is supposedly one of the greatest albums of all time... but as of right now I cannot rate this higher. Also, the last song may be used as a form of torture in some countries.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Mar 10 2023

This shit is unapologetic, aggressive, and in your face music. Oh, they use bad words? Good - they should be able to talk about these very REAL AND RELEVANT ISSUES using whatever language they want. All y'all homies want lyrics that mean something, well, here you go. Chuck D is cool and Flavor Flav is mostly not annoying. Some of the beats and flow are a bit dated, it has that early hip hop sound, but most of it fine. I love the news bits and interludes that they incorporate in the songs. I don't like the homophobic lyrics, unfortunately, it was very prevalent back then from every group of people. They could probably have cut a little, this album is overly long and some songs are basically just 3 minutes of noise, but it's worth listening to by anyone. Fave Song/Lyrics: 911 Is A Joke, Burn Hollywood Burn, Fight The Power

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Mar 11 2023

This has a lot of low reviews, I'm surprised. This genre might be tiring for some people, but holy crap do I love this sound. It makes me happy. I fit right in here, 90's take me home. Clear, sort of experimental production, though it's too long and can become generic and monotonous because they tend to end every song the same. This reminds me of past times and therefore I feel comfy all the way through. Fave Songs: Bitter Sweet Symphony, The Rolling People, Lucky Man

Elastica by Elastica
Mar 12 2023

Love a rock band with a lady singer. Feels like any of these songs could be on a 90's teen movie soundtrack. This album isn't so much pop as it is punk. 15 songs, but all pretty short, it's a breeze to get through, though I wish some were longer. I don't think any of this is revolutionary, but this sound makes me feel nostalgic, enjoyed all the songs.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Mar 13 2023

THIS SHIT LIT. ALL HAIL CRAB! We were so white bread back then Smack My Bitch Up was super controversial. Oh wait, reading some comments people are still worked up... Shut up, it's fucking dance music, so get jiggy with it. I enjoy how aggressive and energetic it feels with the notes of hard rock and hip hop. I listened to this shit constantly when I was younger, this music makes a kid feel cool.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Mar 14 2023

I wasn't too familiar with The Stooges, but on first listen Raw Power is a good name for this cause it is rough and rowdy. You can hear the really early punk sound. The mixing is kinda shit, but I feel like it fits? Interesting back story on the production of the record. Iggy Pop is keeping it real in how he sings and screams. He just kind of does his own thing, like he's improv-ing. The song Penetration sure is an interesting one, he's really horny and it kind of leaves you feeling scared. This genre is not my favorite, but it was short so I'm okay with it. It might have too much raw power for me.

Mar 15 2023

Joe be looking pretty fly on the cover and Cornbread Moon is a great song title. A mix of honky tonk, and classic Texas country, it can be a little corny, but I think it's easy to listen to. Great voice, with nice clear production. If you are not a country fan, I don't think you'd hate this but it probably won't change your mind about it. It is definitely way better than whatever the hell they're making now. Some of the slower songs sound samey but Boxcars is an absolute standout.

Copper Blue by Sugar
Mar 16 2023

Hi! It's me! Lover of 90's alt and grunge! This album fits right in to my likes - a blast from the past! The sound is a mix of many of the bands I enjoy from that time, especially REM, The Barenaked Ladies and Gin Blossoms. Liked some of the heavier sound with the lighter melodies. Album is consistent all the way through, second half even better. Great lyrics throughout. Definitely a product of it's time, maybe a little generic sounding, but it's my happy place. I will listen to more of Bob Mould's stuff. Fave Songs: Hoover Dam, The Slim, Slick

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Mar 17 2023

I don't understand what is happening in this album. Love the cool Donkey Kong Country/Glover/N64 sound. It's haunting and spooky and reminds me of older video game soundtracks. Sadly, I can't stand most of her singing, mostly screeching and whiny. Also, the lyrics are kind of odd and out there, not sure what she is trying to say. People like the first track, I couldn't get over the lip smacking. I'm giving it a 3 because of the instrumentals alone, they are really that good.

Dare! by The Human League
Mar 18 2023

It's Dare! It's a Casio on a Plastic Beach. This is cool Atari, beep boop, robot rock music. This is a product of its time and that is okay. It's a great, influential beginning to a wonderful decade of awesome music. This sound is often trying to be recreated, often used as a gimmick, but this one is original and authentic. Neat that their biggest hit is the last song (and it's incredible, also creepy and incel-ish).

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Mar 19 2023

K.K. Bossa Nova - The sound here is very calm, cool, and collected. it reminds me of some the soundtrack for The Sims 1. The kind of music played at a rich soiree. This is exceptionally made, enjoyed the quick easy listen.

Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren
Mar 20 2023

This man self produced this entire album and played all the instruments on almost 3/4 of it. He thanks drugs for helping him. It's as long as a movie with 4 different sides, so it's a little self indulgent but I can respect it. The track 'Intro' is hilarious and a perfect representation of making this record. Now there is a lot of quantity but is there a lot of quality? It has some great tunes and some mid ones. I enjoy his voice and the talent is displayed well. What I like the most is how random and weird it can be. You never know what's coming next. I don't agree with a lot of the low reviews. My ranking is based on the effort and the music itself, there is a little bit of everything. Fave Songs: I Saw the Light, The Night the Carousel Burned Down, I Went to the Mirror, Black Maria, Couldn't I Just Tell You, Hello It's Me

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Mar 21 2023

Okay so I'm a white girl but this is another album I grew up listening to. When I was young in the 90's we used to dance around to Bitches Ain't Shit. This is gangsta rap with an introduction to g-funk. They rap about committing violent acts, doing drugs and having sex. It's basically a war between two sides of the country. Yes, the lyrics are outrageous, vulgar and offensive... but at least most are interesting and creative. I can understand if this isn't for you, but since this is the lifestyle these men grew up in I think it's okay for them to rap about these subjects, people can change overtime. Listening to this again I was laughing out loud at some of the lyrics but still rocking hard with the beats. It's really well made. A product of it's time but you can hear the influence it had. Dre is great (better producer) but Snoop is incredible. Also really love The Chronic 2001. Thanks for finding Eminem, I guess. In conclusion, Fuck Suge Knight and fuck Beats. (sorry Dre)

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Mar 22 2023

Strange, edgy, psychedelic blues rock with some cool riffs. It's kind of muddy sounding and a lot of the lyrics were hard to decipher, but that's probably the point. I like a little weird in the norm. This guy wasn't following anyone's directions. Don't think this one is too difficult to get through, it's quirky enough where it's kind of a fun adventure. Safe as Milk is a great title. I am terrified of their next album on the list, though. 2.5

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
Mar 23 2023

I know and love The Humpty Dance, it's such a fun and silly song. The rest of the album is pretty old school hip hop, but hornier. The most fascinating part is I learned it's a concept album about 'sex packets' given out to astronauts so they can get off in space, mostly saved for the last part of the album. I enjoy the more lightheartedness than rap that would follow. I found the songs more repetitive and too long, but the samples and some lyrics are great.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Mar 24 2023

These two peeps made better music than most bands coming into the 2000s. I never realized how highly rated this album is by critics. The songs are pretty short and straight forward with simple arrangements. I think Jack's writing and voice carries the songs. Never realized Fell in Love with a Girl is less than 2 minutes. Each track meshes well together but I don't think every one needs to be included. I think I just want a little more in my music, sometimes it feels too primitive. 3.5 cymbals out of 5.

461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton
Mar 25 2023

White man's reggae. Eric got off the hard drugs and off the hard riffs. This is a pretty boring, albeit well made soft rock/blues album. It's pretty groovy and he is very good at playing guitar. I Shot the Sheriff is a great song, but just a cover. Let It Grow is a banger. In conclusion, fuck you, you racist anti-vaxxer fuckhead.

The Specials by The Specials
Mar 26 2023

These surely are some special boys. Black and white people come together to make... British Ska. This is a pretty fun and upbeat album. Never heard this band but I heard plenty from the revival in the 90s. I like this genre, but it's not my favorite and can be annoying. The music is light and unpretentious with a little attitude and sometimes funny lyrics.

The Stooges by The Stooges
Mar 27 2023

This is my second Stooges album, I liked this one more than Raw Power. As their first record this one sounds more classic rock than the more punk sound later. Still has the same authentic and garage band sound. I can hear the instruments and Iggy's vocals more clearly and you can feel the influence this probably had for later music. Some of the songs are cool and rockin' but then you have the dreadful 10 minute death chant in the middle of this short record, which I'm sure some see as delightful, but not for me... but pretty neat for 1969. (2.5/5)

Imagine by John Lennon
Mar 28 2023

Imagine isn't even a terrible song, but when this hypocritical bum or other 'liberal' celebs sing it, I cringe. The rest of the music here isn't bad, but it's full of boomer jams and collectively boring and bland. I don't care what the hippie has to say. He needed the other guys to wrangle in all his pretentiousness. I'm sorry you're dead, but the other Beatles are cooler and didn't beat their wives. Stop blaming Yoko for everything, the man was a dick. Sorry Julian.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Mar 29 2023

Incredible, Amazing, Show Stopping. I have been listening to this album and its songs for over 30 years. This is my favorite band, any album from this to self titled has great music on it. This is not even my favorite PJ album, but of course this is an incredible debut and helped change the music scene. Fall 1991 was one of the best times in music, starting with this bad boy. A mixture of grunge, alternative and hard rock, it's not just for dads, there is something here for anyone. Eddie has such a distinct voice that is often mocked, but the raw emotion and storytelling you hear in it as well as the strong writing make the album a TEN. This is the music I can listen to a billion times and never grow tired, having it ingrained in my brain and sing parts of random songs multiple times a day. These guys have never stopped rocking or changed their message and I love them forever. Absolute Faves: Once, Jeremy, Oceans, Porch

C'est Chic by CHIC
Mar 30 2023

Disco didn't suck. This album is really funky with great grooves. The songs are long and repetitive, but it's DISCO, you're supposed to be coked up, non-stop partying on the dance floor. You don't need progressive instrumentation and full story telling in this music. Still sounds fresh, Nile Rodgers is incredible.

All Directions by The Temptations
Mar 31 2023

A bit of a jammer, with great harmonies and grooves. Overall just sounds very cool with strong lyrics, glad they included Run Charlie Run. I wish it would have kept the funk going, it begins to grow long and tired with the soft (yet beautiful) ballads. I also enjoyed the deep voiced man throughout!

The Slider by T. Rex
Apr 01 2023

I have never listened to or even heard of T. Rex. I thought it was pretty enjoyable with an upbeat sound. Most of the songs are simple and repetitive but it's a solid record. Wish I found something on here that stood out.

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Apr 02 2023

Cucumber, cabbage, cauliflower... this is right up my alley. Had no idea what to expect, and I really liked it. I enjoyed the mix of 80s new wave with the grand orchestra. It creates an eerie atmosphere with the instrumentation and strange lyrics. Every song sounds epic, but maybe goes a tad overboard with the drama in some places. Fave Song: The Killing Moon

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Apr 03 2023

Smooth jazz with an electronic flair. Never listened to before but this brought such a nostalgic feeling over me. The vocals are rich and beautiful and the tempo, while moody and chill, still has quite a groove. Perfect music for perusing a mall or cruising around at night time in the 90s. Fave Songs: Before Today, Single, Walking Wounded, Big Deal

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
Apr 04 2023

A very intimate, cool album all about Erykah. The sound is smooth and groovy that brings a great vibe. Her voice is soothing and you can hear word sung clearly. The lyrics are interesting and reveal a lot about her thoughts, but can get too quirky and repetitious. The album is long, but cohesive, as each song passes right into the next. As soon as I grew a bit tired, some beat changed and kept my attention.

Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre
Apr 05 2023

Early synth with a lot of pew pew space lasers. A chill ambient soundtrack that's not really a soundtrack, but you can use your imagination and fit it into many things. It feels familiar and I enjoyed that it was one collective project split into 6 parts. It can be a little sleepy, but doesn't outstay it's welcome.

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Apr 06 2023

I'm glad there is a place for experimental music to be made, but this was torturous and it made me angry. I began by laughing at the absurdity of it all, but then that quickly turned into screaming shut the fuck up over some freaky 8 minute story time about mailing yourself to a woman and then getting murdered. You can like this and say it's ahead of it's time, which it probably is, but listening to a 17 minute noise rock song about getting your ding dong sucked just isn't for me.

Bossanova by Pixies
Apr 07 2023

Had not listened to this Pixies album previously, but I enjoy this genre, so I enjoyed this. Quick listen with solid songs, it's collectively great. An awesome start to the 90's.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Apr 08 2023

A+ on the album and song titles. I was scared because Zappa was pretty wild but this is just a cool progressive instrumental jammer. Features talented guitar playing and crazy sax. Favorite song was Peaches en Regalia.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Apr 09 2023

Honestly, it's basic hard rock with mid songwriting, but it's just so concise with some really classic songs on it, so I really enjoyed it.

Third by Portishead
Apr 10 2023

An experimental, electronic sound with not much melody. Sometimes it is intense, other times it is sleepy. It has weird and interesting ideas but on first listen I found it to be just okay.

Apr 11 2023

I see the rainbow triangle, I upvote. I doubt I can add anything to the conversation that hasn't already been said about this record. It's an experience and everyone should listen to it front to back. It's considered one of the greatest albums of all time and it might not even be Pink Floyd's best. Absolute Faves: Time, Us and Them

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Apr 12 2023

Trash compactor 'music'. It's badly recorded industrial noise with a guy screaming in German for an hour. I did not have a good time.

Vento De Maio by Elis Regina
Apr 13 2023

She had a lovely voice, and this was a really pleasant listen. Just because the music isn't in a language you understand, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Apr 14 2023

Jazz fusion that sounds like it belongs in a 70s/80s television show. Album starts off pretty mild, but by the last song it gets a little nutty.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Apr 15 2023

This mofo looks cool as hell on the cover. It's a long ass high quality jazz album. Feels like a great soundtrack to have on in the background but every now and then will come to the forefront and capture your attention.

Hms Fable by Shack
Apr 16 2023

For a genre I really enjoy, this was incredibly mid. While I don't think the album is bad, I've heard this sound done better many times. It starts to come off as a parody at points. Best songs were Captain's Table and Daniella.

Vivid by Living Colour
Apr 17 2023

The production is dated, but we need more black rock bands. There are many genres incorporated here, that it has a unique vibe. I really enjoyed the lead singer and the political/cultural message in the lyrics. Landlords suck.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Apr 18 2023

I wish I could say I was a big fan, but I don't love this. The music is authentic, and they sound good, but I find it just okay. It's probably deserving of a higher score, but I'm not feeling it.

Apr 19 2023

Yep, it's post rock. If you love this genre, then you'll probably love this album. For me, I can appreciate some of the sound, but overall, it's a giant snooze fest.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Apr 20 2023

I don't think all the songs are hits, only a couple I really enjoy, but Jimi is a guitar freak. It's worth a listen at least once. I just think I like the man and talent more than the music. (Last 2 songs bang, though.)

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Apr 21 2023

Classic rock, nothing wild, it's just a solid album. It features some excellent guitar playing. Sultans Of Swing is the highlight, it's outstanding.

Marquee Moon by Television
Apr 22 2023

I might be a basic bitch, but I didn't really love this. It's fine, but on a first listen, not my favorite. I can understand why it is influential for the genre. Best parts of the album for me were the instrumentals, especially in the song Marquee Moon. Favorite song was Torn Curtain.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Apr 23 2023

Perfection. Masterpiece. An eight song record packed to the brim with nothing but smashers. If you want music that perfectly represents the 80s, here it is. This album is incredible with great vocals and lyrics. The production is immaculate and rich. My absolute favorites: Shout, The Working Hour, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Head Over Heels (My personal favorite and a top 10 song of all time.)

GI by Germs
Apr 24 2023

He sounded like a Sim singing for 40 minutes. I think I understood about 5 words the whole album. It wasn't on Spotify so I had to listen to it on Youtube, and it was basically a never ending nightmare.

System Of A Down by System Of A Down
Apr 25 2023

If you're a millennial, you probably have some familiarity to this cool band. The debut is very good, Serj and Daron sound awesome. It features wild energy, wacky song structure, and many political messages. Classifying this as nu metal, while technically true, seems like such an insult in hindsight.

Apr 26 2023

I never heard of Laura before. She looks and sounds ahead of her time. The album was enjoyable to me, but I can understand how others would find her draining.

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Apr 27 2023

I love Kacey's voice, it is so beautiful. The lyrics are mostly good, some a little on the nose, but it has none of that fake patriotism and redneck culture nonsense that modern country consists of. Fave songs: Slow Burn, Butterflies, Oh What A World, Happy & Sad, High Horse, Golden Hour

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Apr 28 2023

Love 90's alternative, love this album. It's 2 hours, it absolutely doesn't need to be that long, but there is no denying the amount of bangers here. There are great songs on both discs with some beautiful melodies. One second it's heavy and harsh then turns soft and sweet right after. Billy Corgan is a douche, his voice might sound like a drill to the brain to some, but I like it and find there is more challenging vocals elsewhere on this list. Also, Siamese Dream might be better.

The Doors by The Doors
Apr 29 2023

More like The Boors, am I right? This is classic rock everyone has heard before. The music is fine, some interesting stuff, nothing bad here. Really good for a debut album, just not my favorite band. Fave Songs: Light My Fire and The End

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Apr 30 2023

These are such dope looking dudes. The talent here is insane. Great vocals and production. That Lady is so awesome to hear in full. Really liked the song Sunshine as well as the covers.

Phrenology by The Roots
May 01 2023

Good lyrics, experimental beats, and sick drumming. Pretty long, I think it will take more than one listen for me to rate higher, but really impressed. Really loved Break You Off and the 10 minute Water. Jimmy Fallon is terrible. 3.5

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
May 02 2023

Love this redneck rock - CCR have so many classic hits, and this record was no exception. Cool and quick listen, but it can start to sound redundant.

Suicide by Suicide
May 03 2023

This shit sounds so stupid, it's hilarious. All the songs seem like they could lead up to something, but stay repetitive and fade away. In one song I think he's literally just jerking off into the mic. The next is a 10 minute song about a guy killing his family and himself then going to hell with accompanying sound effects. It was a riot.

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
May 04 2023

Sounds like a disheveled mess, but I am in love. It's super sloppy and unclean with shit vocals but feels so cozy. A nice glimpse into the future of rock. Incredible.

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
May 05 2023

I've never heard of the band, but holy shit this slaps. Noisy, loud, and almost non stop relentless. Makes me feel cool and comfy.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
May 06 2023

It's a good debut. I miss the "George Bush doesn't care about black people" Kanye.

m b v by My Bloody Valentine
May 07 2023

Shoe Gays two decades in the making. You forget you're listening to anything most of the runtime, but it sometimes gets a little wild.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
May 08 2023

It's honestly pretty boring, but the songwriting is strong and Dolly is such a wonderful talent and exceptional person.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
May 09 2023

Beautiful music and vocals accompanied with such a poignant and deep message. Every song connects to the next and leads you on a groovin', socially conscious ride. What's Going On and Mercy Mercy Me are all timers.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
May 10 2023

Superstar, superfuck baby! I'm crediting anything that sounds cool on this album to Trent. This was a NIN album with a worse front man. No problem with the shocking and dark tone, but the lyrical prowess here made me cringe all the way through. I was literally laughing out loud in parts at the absurdity, and bewildered at the use of racial slurs in the first song. We now know how much this man sucks, but fuck these conservative groups blaming him for Columbine and leading congressional hearings to ban all explicit music because it's scarring the kids.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
May 12 2023

A nostalgic album for me, it's very heavy with great guitar. So many slammers on this album, from Them Bones to Would? Layne lived a hard life and you can feel it in his vocals and lyrics.

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
May 13 2023

This is a long album, but it was all new to me and I didn't know what to expect. His voice goes well with the gospel sound and orchestra. It has rich story telling but with a mix of, I'm sure, absolute nonsense. Favorite song was Hiding All Away. I can do without Babe, You Turn Me On.

May 14 2023

Kojima's favorite album. I'm very familiar with this band, what a great debut! It's a must listen if you're a fan of pop/synth music. I love hearing a mix of Lauren and the boy's vocals. My favorite song is Night Sky, but it's full of bangers.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
May 15 2023

The cooler Dylan. I appreciate Bruce although his music has never been my favorite. I'm reading reviews with people describing him as some patriot bonehead when he is actually the opposite. He writes and sings about, especially in this album, the down on their luck middle/lower class. He is not afraid to criticize this country and also tries to empathize and understand those who make mistakes. I like the dark and somber tone of this album. It might be a little boring, but it's true storytelling from a man who has always been a real one.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
May 16 2023

I like the name of the album, the music is decent too. Thanks Dylan for just writing and not singing!

Palo Congo by Sabu
May 18 2023

Buenos noches senor - the music is non stop congas. Not really made for me but I'm sure is important to the culture.

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
May 19 2023

Completely new to me - The Boss inspired Indie rock with an 80's/dreamy tinge. I like the way the songs linger on, some parts are really beautiful. Favorite was An Ocean In Between The Waves.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
May 20 2023

A couple of wise guys make a blues album for old white boomers. It's a long album and Layla is the standout, I wanted more songs like it. Butthole Clapton plays guitar very well, but still isn't a Goodfella.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
May 21 2023

It's 1 hour of pleasant piano music. Very talented musician, this reminds me of building houses in the Sims 1.

Low by David Bowie
May 22 2023

Since I am still new to Bowie, I never knew he did albums like this. The first half is okay, but I liked the atmospheric sound of the second half better. I will need more time with this one. 3.5

Blackstar by David Bowie
May 23 2023

The Death Grips inspired swan song - this is my first listen, and wow, it was amazing. The sound is incredibly unique and fresh, l loved all the saxophone. What a great finale to your life. Favorite tracks were Blackstar and Girl Loves Me.

Purple Rain by Prince
May 24 2023

Purple Rain, some stay dry and others feel the pain. It has it all - Great 80's production, electric guitar, and Prince screaming. Favorite song is When Doves Cry!

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
May 25 2023

Right up my alley, it's musically heavy and lyrically dense. Abound with very dark content.

Guero by Beck
May 26 2023

The album is very cool and unique, and it incorporates many different samples and styles. Beck is the bomb.

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
May 27 2023

I'm sorry Nick, this album did not do it for me, it was so boring and I felt nothing hearing it. I am still eager what else you have to offer.

The Predator by Ice Cube
May 28 2023

Ice Cube is awesome, I enjoy both his music and his acting. This is a good album with some great lyrics. Trust no bitch. It's on like Donkey Kong. 3.5

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
May 29 2023

I liked most of the sound, not so much the vocals. Overall, this did not feel very exciting or interesting for this genre of music, which I love mostly all of it.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
May 30 2023

Ooh, the album with the candle on it I've never heard before. It's authentic, noisy music with plenty of layers. I really loved Teen Age Riot.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
May 31 2023

My 2nd Dire Straits album - Starts off pretty hype then slows down halfway. I think you need to like sax and smooth rock to get through to the end. Money For Nothing was my favorite song (just realized he sings the F slur multiple times), and I hear Walk of Life everyday at work and I'm not tired of it. 3.5

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Jun 01 2023

Really old school hip hop - It's pretty dated, but some cool beats nonetheless.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
Jun 02 2023

Did you know cars are cars? Thanks to this album, I now realize this. The album is consistently good all the way through. I enjoyed the storytelling with some unique melodies and pleasant vocals.

Synchronicity by The Police
Jun 03 2023

1 2 3 A B C Da white reggae mon - The album starts off wild and ends silly. You have the incredibly popular stalker tune Every Breath You Take to the weird ass Mother. I love the 80s sound and I don't mind Sting. Stewart 'Spyro' Copeland is way cooler though.

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Jun 04 2023

Biggie was a great rapper and extremely horny. He has a good flow but the subject matter is so repetitive. I could do without the porn skits or hearing P Diddy's voice. Favorite tracks are Big Poppa and Suicidal Thoughts.

Jun 05 2023

Compilation album - It's quick and to the point, but enjoyable during the short listen time.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Jun 06 2023

Super soulful - what a great recording!

All Hail the Queen by Queen Latifah
Jun 07 2023

Old school and upbeat hip hop for the ladies. She is a talented queen and raps her name about 5000 times. L-A-T-I-F-A-H

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Jun 08 2023

Great voice, easy listening. The last song is the best, I remember loving it back in the day.

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Jun 09 2023

A mish mash of experimental electronica with bits of strange vocals. I was hopeful in the beginning, Dirge is a song I recognize and like. The rest of the album, though not bad at all, is not for me. 2.5

Jun 11 2023

Oh, what it would have been like to be a screaming girl at the James Brown show. Pretty early in his career, can definitely hear his talent and ability to hype up his audience.

xx by The xx
Jun 13 2023

Mumble core. I am familiar with this album, though it's not for me, it's too lazy and boring.

Da Capo by Love
Jun 14 2023

Sounds of the era - I liked the flute. Could do without the B Side. 2.5

Jun 15 2023

HoRsEsHoEs - This is lighter and cleaner than the gangsta rap coming out at the time while still being socially conscious, enjoyable change of pace.

Jun 16 2023

As someone new and with no attachment to this band, I really liked it. It's very dreary and depressing, but not dreadful.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Jun 18 2023

Such a unique voice in music - a strange alien sound accompanied with ethereal vocals and beautiful and sometimes scary melodies. One of a kind, truly. Fave Songs: Running Up That Hill, Mother Stands For Comfort, Waking The Witch, Hello Earth

The Band by The Band
Jun 19 2023

My 2nd The Band album - continues to be good ol' classic rock.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Jun 20 2023

"Your butt is mine" said the most bad mofo on the planet. Great album, great bass, chock full of Michael's ad-libbing. Fave Songs: The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal

Kid A by Radiohead
Jun 21 2023

The Social Network 2 - Computer Not Ok. Mind blowing thinking about how this came out in the year 2000. Everything in Its Right Place is best.

Traffic by Traffic
Jun 22 2023

I wasn't familiar with the band, but recognized Feelin' Alright? The music still sounds good, impressive for 1969. Favorite song was Cryin' To Be Heard. 3.5

I don't like most punk music, but can hear the influence this had. It's simple now, but game changing back then. I never realized this was their only album. Reading the wiki about them was quite a ride, they seemed like a bunch of obnoxious babies. I got a headache by the end and I begged for Johnny to shut up. 2.5/not my thing.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jun 24 2023

A posthumous album from such a unique voice in music, she seemed like a cool woman.

Doolittle by Pixies
Jun 26 2023

2nd Pixies album - A great mix of many musical styles. Some real stellar stuff here.

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Jun 27 2023

Indie dance rock - It's nerdy, but also cool. Great vibes.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Jun 28 2023

Bish. I like the cadence in Kendrick's raps. Chill and mellow with good storytelling - Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst was my favorite.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Jun 29 2023

African Blues made by a dying artist. I was into it at first but it slowly got a little boring as it went on. Still, I did not dislike it and can recommend if you're into this kind of music. 2.5

Jul 01 2023

I do not like punk music and was going to rate this a 2, but I LOVE the song themes and titles. Kill The Poor, I Kill Children, what an absolute riot. Funland at the Beach is hilarious. I enjoyed the listen.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Jul 02 2023

I wished every song was Groove Is In The Heart.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jul 03 2023

Good debut, Plant cums all over the place, but it only gets better from here...

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Jul 05 2023

This album has songs created by each of the 3 musicians which makes for something truly chaotic. It sounds shitty and messy, so I love it.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Jul 06 2023

Back then at 10 years old this was the coolest, most perfect album. Now, it's about a 4/10. I don't expect grown ass men who never listened to this growing up to give a crap. Hearing it now in full it is mostly just cringy with angsty lyrics. There are some cool 'hard' beats to get you through it. Chester was always incredible, though. A pure nostalgia rating from me, as I still like it. Favorite song is Papercut.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Jul 07 2023

if you’re a beatles hater fucking grow up!!!!

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Jul 08 2023

I like the band, the album is solid, but this is not my favorite Stones. Also, I get the sentiment of Sweet Black Angel but it's a no from me.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Jul 10 2023

Reading the background behind the album and hearing his crude-ish vocals here made it feel more personal and made me like it more. 3.5

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba

The music wasn't my favorite, but reading about her, she lived a hard life and was a complete badass.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 13 2023

My first Elvis Costello album.. he be kinda snarky. The music sounds ahead of it's time.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jul 14 2023

Say what you will about Billy Joel, but he knows how to make hits. The album is lightweight and inoffensive, but completely solid with great melodies.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jul 15 2023

Grew up hearing this in my younger years - It's a very good album, with a lot of memorable songs for me. What the hell happened to him, though... turned into an absolute whack job.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Jul 16 2023

QotSA is incredible and are one of my favorite bands. This album is very good, but not as polished as their later work. I love Josh's vocals - they compliment the heavy instrumentals perfectly. The album is long enough, so there is no need for bonus tracks from the reissue, but they are great nonetheless. The music only gets better from here and I would rather the list have included Songs for the Deaf and Like Clockwork, which are absolute masterpieces. Fave songs: Regular John, Avon, If Only, Mexicola

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Jul 17 2023

Pennies from Heaven... This man is a gangster. 3.5
