« My favorite artist right now is FATboy slim, that guy kicks ASS » : transition de fou entre le "Right here, right now" et "The Rockafeller skank" Les 3 premiers morceaux = du génie. Le milieu s’essouffle un peu, il réussi à répéter sur toute une chanson «California is druggy, druggy, druggy, druggy» (5min53 quand même !) avec une autotune qui ferait pâlir Daft Punk (et la phrase est par ailleurs un sample d'une animatrice TV, qui, petite digression, donne cette dédicace dans les crédits de son album : This album is dedicated only to the people who have bought it retail and not the SOB's who are listening to it for free at their friend's house, SOB signifiant Son of a b****... relativement agressif comme phrase hahaha) Les trois morceaux de fin sont aussi des masterclass. Donne globalement envie de taper du pied mais peut être un peu répétitif, ça reste quand même une dinguerie de sampling (avec environ 10 samples par morceaux >:0 (avec des samples allant de David Bowie à Jay-Z en passant par Giorgio Moroder) Fun fact : L'interview radiophonique de la fin du premier morceau est bien réelle, et Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) est ensuite devenu pote et "drinking buddy" avec le fan en question

Le problème c'est que je manque absolument de référentiel pour pouvoir avoir un avis sur un album de jazz. Est ce que j'ai bien aimé ? Oui mais est est ce que l'album m'a fait ressentir quelque chose qui me ferait le réécouter ? Pas vraiment. Je crois que ce qui fait l'importance de cet album c'est aussi le contexte dans lequel il à été créé : Ellington (légende du jazz de l'époque) était en perte de vitesse et dépassé par l'arrivée de nouvelles têtes (la génération des addicts à l'héroïne) et la fin du format 'Big Band', et il a mis une claque monumentale au monde du jazz à ce concert. Maintenant, je ne suis pas sur de pouvoir apprécier l'album autant que si j'avais été un jazz aficionados en 1956 mais ça force l'admiration.

Pour autant que j’aime Léonard Cohen et ses « Songs of love and hate », je suis toujours sceptique des albums ayant la religion comme une des thématiques principales. C'est quand même plutôt agréable à écouter mais je reste sceptique.

Je ne suis pas spécialement attiré par ce genre de rock qui tend vers le blues, et qui sonne à mes oreilles très « américain » Par exemple j’ai du mal à m’identifier à des paroles comme sans « Stormy Monday » : The eagle flies on Friday / Saturday I go out to play / The eagle flies on Friday / Saturday I go out to play / Sunday I go to church / Gonna kneel down and pray N’empêche qu’il y a des parties instrumentales assez impressionnantes, des solos de guitare à rallonge et d’autant plus impressionnants qu’il s’agit d’un album live (e.g. les 10 dernières minutes de « You don’t love Me », impressionnante jam entre les membres du groupe). Je ne réécouterai probablement pas cet album à nouveau à moins de me reconstruire une vie de chasseur de tornade dans le Nevada, mais c’était pas non plus une mauvaise expérience.

Difficile de faire plus cliché qu’un enchaînement de chansons nommés Basic Space / Infinity / Night Time / Stars haha Je n’arrive pas trop à déceler les émotions que l’album essaye de transmettre et c’est sûrement sa force mais je pense que c’est aussi son point faible (en plus de la voix de Oliver Sim qui ne me convainc absolument pas). Les mélodies sont au point mais tout est très « vide » et donc j’ai l’impression qu’on s’ennuie vite, à moins d’être dans le mood idéal , mais ça reste un album qui me rappelle des bons souvenirs (j’avais essayé d’apprendre l’arpège de Intro à la guitare)

Bjork réussit souvent à mélanger des vocaux absolument dingues avec de ambiances et des sons très particuliers. Le problème c'est que avec très peu de vrai instruments et de mélodies, je trouve que ça devient difficile à écouter. 2/5

J’adore j’adore j’adore, c’est un mélange de banger comme « Concrete Jungle » ou « Stir it Up » avec plein d’autres chansons variées, des chansons d’amour et des chansons pour se révolter (« Slave Driver » par exemple : Today they say that we are free / Only to be chained in poverty / Good God, I think it's illiteracy / It's only a machine that make money) J’ai écouté l’album toute la journée et c’est tellement agréable, les mélodies et les rythmes sont variés et y’a des influences rock trop stylées (e.g. le solo de guitare électrique dans le premier titre) Bravo Bob

La musique de Steely dan, je la décrirai comme rafraîchissante. Quand tu l’écoutes tu te prends pas la tête, tu te laisses bercer et tu t’imagines à la barre de ton voilier sous un grand soleil, heureux comme un gardon. Ils arrivent à faire une musique distincte des groupes cultes des années 70 tout en étant parfaitement années 70

Assez fou de constater l’évolution du son de Bon Dylan au fur et à mesure de l’album : on commence par du vrai folk – guitare, voix et harmonica. Et petit à petit on rajoute une batterie, un piano, une basse et tout un attirail plus « électrique ». Et puis bon bah c’est Bob Dylan, avec sa voix reconnaissable parmi 1000.
