Crime Of The Century
SupertrampThis album is already in my rotation. Great harmonies, horns, and piano.
This album is already in my rotation. Great harmonies, horns, and piano.
Great album. The lyrics are cheesy but, Meatloaf’s voice delivers them with power and epic intensity.
Interesting album. I like how the music acts like a carrier wave for the sometimes subversive and softly sung lyrics. It’s almost like the concepts that the lyrics are conveying are trying to implant in my brain. I’ll be listening to this again.
Interesting concept for an album. I got tired of her voice after a while, though. Still, it was a cool experience but, I don’t think I’ll be listening to this again.
Love the wordplay in this album. Hip hop and rap are really not what I listen to normally but it was cool to spend some time in the thought process of a self proclaimed genius. I do not think I will listen to this album again but it was a nice diversion to what I normally listen to.
I already had “Living For The City”, “Higher Ground” and “Don’t You Worry About A Thing” on my phone. Never thought about selecting all the songs until hearing the album in its entirety. Besides the singles, I really enjoyed Stevie’s song about Richard Nixon, “He’s Misstra Know It All”. That song could about our new Commander-In-Chief. Not a bad album from start to finish.
It was okay. His voice was so easy going that it didn’t sound like that he had any personality. The songs needed more life and more improvisation. If I had to pick an artist from New Orleans that I would rather listen to, it would be Louis Prima.
HELL YES! Great album start to finish. My only complaint is that the album was too short. This album is proof that a band can make a that is not overproduced and that it still kicks ass!!
Great album! Lou Reed’s lyrics about drug addiction and BDSM were pure poetry.
It was okay. Rap is not really my thing. The last couple of minutes tied the whole album together though.
This album takes me back to high school. Like my high school experience, this album was not good but, it was not bad either. “Black”, “Jeremy” and “Even Flow” are great songs. The rest of the album was mediocre.
I can only listen to Fatboy Slim in small doses. Listening to the whole album in one sitting gets really overwhelming. Great music but, I need to listen to other tracks between these songs.
Never heard of this band until now. It seems to me that they were trying different styles of music on this album. I appreciate their creativity. The album is now on my playlist. I’ll be sure to keep the songs from this album in my rotation for a while.
Awesome album!! Pure, straight forward rock and roll. They just need to learn how to spell.
A really funky album. Nile Rodgers’ bass guitar was excellent and the harmonies from the ladies were really good.
Elliott Smith’s voice sent shivers down my spine in a bad way. This album is way too whiny. This was definitely a cry for help considering what happened to him.
One of the greatest debut albums of all time! This is the best example of “Pub Rock”. I imagine patrons sitting around the bar and having a few beers while Elvis Costello is playing his original songs and being blown away.
It was okay. The second six songs were better than the first six songs.
This album is already in my rotation. Great harmonies, horns, and piano.
The individual songs on their own were excellent. As a concept album that tells a story, it fell apart for me. I wish Apple Music or any music streaming service would have a text file with the original album liner notes to accompany albums like these.
It was okay. I liked “Lust For Life”, “The Passenger”, and “Success”. The rest of the album was just mediocre.
I don’t listen to a lot of electronic music but, this album was not bad. I liked how it started out really heavy and then mellowed out at the end. It’s one of those albums that needs to be listened to from start to finish.
I could not find a lot of information about this album online. This album is not really my thing. Maybe, if I had more context to what he was singing about, it would have been better. The blending of Western instruments and the traditional instruments was interesting.
His voice was way too ethereal. At times, I couldn’t hear him over the bass. I thought I had my sound levels calibrated incorrectly. I was bored listening to this.
One of the worst concept albums I’ve ever heard in my life. I was bored listening to this. The singer’s voice had no personality. If the Earth was being engulfed by a black hole and the Government was trying to cover it up, I would think a person would be more emotional and not sound disinterested.
Way too over produced. She does have a great voice but, the lyrics she sings were crappy. I do not feel that she learned anything about herself by the end of this album. She kept making the same mistakes over and over again and then whining about it for forty-five minutes.
If neurotypical people ask me what Autism feels like, I would tell them to listen to Talking Heads. As a person on The Spectrum, David Bryne’s lyrics about trying to find his place in society sometimes hits a little too close to home. Great album from start to finish.
Usually, I try to write a more in depth review when I listen to albums. But, this album sucked. It was torture to listen to. At least, I know the title of the song that was playing during Halloween when I was working at Savers.
This album was funky. It made me want to go to my local Brazilian food store for some Passatempo cookies and a cup of coffee from the nearby Dunkin’s.
The first couple of tracks were boring. Then, it started to pick up a bit. It just wasn’t for me but, it was okay. Maybe, I will come back and visit some these songs again sometime.
The album was way too chaotic. It was really hard to gather any meaning from the songs. The music was really good, though. Maybe, if I saw this performed live, I would have a better appreciation for this material.
Great album! I loved his work with Can. So, I was really awesome to hear some of his solo work. “Cool In The Pool” had a cool, mad scientist on vacation vibe. “Persian Love” was also interesting. I listened to this album on the way to work. I think next time I listen to this, I need to be sitting in my chair with the volume turned up just to catch everything this album has to offer
The background vocals were okay but they could be annoying at times. Also, the guitarist was not that great. That being said, Solomon Burke definitely applied his training from the church in his vocals to cut through the subpar background vocals and instrumentals.
Love this album. Blue eyed soul at its finest.
This is got to be The Kinks’ most boring album. Village Green Preservation Society is such a better album. The mix of British Musichall and Rock did not work for me.
Besides “Mr. Wendal”, “People Everyday “, and “Tennessee”, the rest of the album was boring and monotonous. I appreciate that they tried to inject a positive message into rap, but I just found to be really bland.
Much better production on this album than on the last Adele album. Still not big fan of her songs though. I heard actual instruments this time so, that was a big plus. If her albums are improving with release, maybe some of her songs will be on my playlist the next time I get an Adele album randomly assigned to me.
Excellent album! Prince had the swagger and the talent to back it up.
Excellent debut album! Violent Femmes encapsulated anxiety and awkwardness and turn it into an album that a lot of people can relate to.
This album is the sonic equivalent of the quiet girl in High School that has no friends. So, you go talk to her and try to befriend her. Then, you find out why she has no friends.
I am not a really big rap fan. I did like learning about cocaine, though.
Love this album! I liked the way all the instruments blended together within the sections of the pieces. I will definitely be listening to more of his work.
Not a bad album. Some of the jams tend to drag a little too long though. For example, if they would have cut out the slow section of “Whipping Post”, it would have been awesome instead of just good. My favorite track is “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”. That jam was tight and sent shivers down my spine.
“Lazurus” was the only interesting track on this album. It was interesting to peer into the thoughts of a dying man. The rest of the album was just really dull.
That album was really boring.
This album was way too overproduced. These songs were better performed live or acoustically. “Hazy Shade Of Winter” was really good, though.
This album was not bad.
This album was way better than “Bookends”. I felt the tension between the duo as they were both trying to get this album finished before they would break up for awhile.
Rap music is not really something that I listen to. It was interesting to hear about a man who was uncomfortable and struggling with fame. Just not really my type of music.
Great concept album. Some of the songs go on too long like “Australia” and “Shangri-La”. It’s just too bad the television program that was to accompany this album never came to fruition. It would been cool to see the whole story of Arthur.
It was okay. I think need to give the tracks another listen before I decide to remove them from my playlist.
Not bad! Anyone that can write a song about traveling on The Massachusetts Turnpike or a song walking down a street near a mental institution in a Boston suburb and make both scenarios sound epic is the mark of a great song writer.
Oh Hell Yeah!! Great album with raw power to make you feel like you can take over the world.
I tried really hard to like this. This was my second time listening to the album from start to finish. I think the thing about Bowie is that if you don’t like one album, his next album could be better. Hopefully, that’s the case.
Good album. The trick with any good Progressive Rock composition is to make the listener wanting more despite the fact that song takes up a third of the album. Close To The Edge definitely left me wanting more.
The first three songs were boring. Then, it started to get more interesting. I’ll give it another try later on.
That was really boring. Usually, I need to be drunk before I hear people talking about their breakups. This album is just way too self loathing.
The music was okay. It’s just that Thom Yorke’s vocals are not powerful enough for the music being played.
Nas’ flow was not bad. He needed more variety with his subject matter. Hearing him rap about weed and about how his neighborhood is bad got old after a while.
The problem I have with Shoegaze is that when picks up in intensity and I think that the song is going to get better, it just winds up going nowhere. That’s the problem I have listening to this and it made me angry. All that potential build up with no release.
This is a very pretentious album. After the awesome title track, everything else was overproduced, neohippie bullshit.
Great album. Just good old fashioned British Mod music with just enough swagger from Paul Weller to make it sound awesome!
Besides “Spoonman”, the rest of the album was really boring and it all the tracks sounded the same.
Good album. I like “Combat Rock” more, though.
Part 2 was better than Part 1. Christina has a powerful voice but the songs were not good. That whole “Thank You” section was just really cringe worthy. Also, it was way overproduced witch goes against the idea of this album.
It was okay. The song “American Pie” is a classic. Then, the next couple of songs were a little bit dull. “Everybody Loves Me, Baby” was pretty funny. “The Grave” was one of the best anti-war songs I have ever heard.
Great album. Really theatrical. The overall story needed work though but, the individual songs were awesome.
It was only nostalgia that kept me from abandoning this album.
It was boring. Chris Martin’s voice is way too airy.
This album tickled my brain!! I sounded like everyone involved was having a great time making this because there was a sense of fun and humor throughout the whole experience along with some psychedelics. Just a really happy sounding album.
It’s hard to believe that this was their debut album. The lyrics challenged me yet still respected my intelligence.
It was dull.
Great harmonies.
I was a really boring album. I’m glad that the members of this band took jobs producing and writing music for other artists because they could not perform their own material.
It was okay. I was a little disappointed that there was only one serious song and the rest of the album was about parties and how awesome each of the members are.
Way better than the last Parliament album I listened to. Once George Clinton started to introduce different personalities into the music, I made the whole listening experience more enjoyable.
Boring!!! Listening to people brag about themselves for almost 40 minutes just gets really annoying ever awhile.
The song “Four Women” blew me away. Nina Simone had a great voice. It is really just too bad that she wasted her talent on this album singing crappy love songs. I would have loved to hear more songs like “Four Women”.
The lyrics are a little juvenile but, it’s not bad.
Awesome album full of energy and fun! I’m taking one star off because I really hate “6060-842”.
Those songs are the most overplayed songs on Classic Rock radio stations. I really don’t want to hear them ever again. FREE BIRD SUCKS!!!!!
I bet that there were some smart lyrics about the human condition and the world today mixed in with the noise. I just wish I could have understood the message. With song titles like “Multinational Corporations”, I was hoping for a more of a call to action than a person ranting and screaming. How can I help if I can’t understand what the problem is?
It was okay. I was a little disappointed. The only song that stood out to me was “La Grange”. The rest of the album was just generic Southern rock with some Spanish words here and there.
Too much screaming from future grandmothers and great grandmothers to really enjoy the album. Plus, it’s only a half an hour long. Unless James Brown’s set was a part of an all day show at the Apollo, I would have felt that I wasn’t getting value for my money.
Oh man!!! Awesome album!! The title track blew me away! The mixing of the horns, percussion, and vocals were spot on.
If there was a way to separate the horn section from the vocals, this would have been a much better album. The horns were awesome but, Kevin Roland can not sing. The story about the band stealing the master tape and holding it hostage was more interesting than this album.
The mixture of rockabilly and punk was pretty interesting. It’s just too bad that the harmonies were not great. I have heard most of these songs a long time ago and I liked them but, I really don’t like them anymore. Maybe my musical tastes have changed over the years.
This is the version of ZZ Top I grew up with. It was only slightly better than “Tres Hombres”. It had great music but, really cringeworthy lyrics that would make a young man laugh.
Not a bad album! I liked mix of Blues, English Folk, and Hard Rock. Plant, Jones, and Bonham really nicely together. It just some of the slow songs dragged a bit.
I never finished an album out of spite before. This is crappy piece of music was not going to break my soul. This album should be used by the police to make criminals that barricaded themselves with hostages to leave the building. That is the only purpose for this piece of garbage.
The tribute to Early Eighties synthesizer music was interesting. It’s just too bad that the lyrics were boring. The Wiki article is written about the artist was more engaging than the songs. If you listen to the English version of the album, you do not need to listen to the French version. They are same songs.
I never thought that a Latin album with hip hop elements could be so boring. Santana pulled it off better five years before this album came out. I was not impressed.
It wasn’t bad. I like a good concept album and one exploring the themes of depression, sadness, and loneliness is an interesting idea. But, it doesn’t have to be two hours. It lost interest around the middle of Part 2. Billy Corgan’s voice does start to get grating after a while.
Sometimes people need to separate the art from the artist. Eric Clapton may be a racist, anti-vax moron now. But, back in the day, he was just a guy trying to break up the marriage of his best friend and his wife at the time. Now to the album itself. Eric Clapton can play a mean guitar but, the jams go on way too long. It’s not a bad album. It needed to be shorter and more structured.
I grew up and still live in region of Massachusetts where everyone has an Aerosmith story. I have heard songs by this band on the radio on almost daily basis. They are an integral component to the soundtrack of Massachusetts. That being said, I am pretty burnt out when it comes to listening to Aerosmith. It’s not a bad album but I heard them all before.
The album had four good songs with the rest of the album being crappy blues songs. After listening to this and “The Santanic Majesty’s Request”, I can see why The Rolling Stones wanted to go back to their roots after that experimental album did not work out the way they planned. I seems to me that they over corrected.
This album only had a couple of excellent R&B songs. It’s just too bad that the rest of the album was him rapping with his friends from The Dirty South.
Awesome album about the human condition. There’s not one bad song on this album although the lyrics can get a little depressing sometimes.
“Tom Sawyer”, “YYZ” and “Limelight” are classics. “Red Barretta” is okay. Every thing else did not capture my interest. When it comes to Prog, I’m more of a Canterbury guy.
That was awful. Way too much reverberation so, I could not hear and understand the lyrics.
It was okay. “I Want You To Want Me” and “Surrender” are descent songs. The whole album was middle of the road rock.
It is really hard to record a guitar jam and have make it have any sense without any context. The jam was okay. The rest of the songs were fine.
I listened to both the Bowie Mix and the Iggy Pop Mix. The Bowie Mix is better. That being said, the album was just okay. Nothing really special about this.
It was really good. I liked how Neil Young could convey what is like to be a musician with some of his songs. Then, sing about how Welfare mothers make better lovers. I listen to a lot of the albums in this project on the way to work. This is an album that I have to sit down in a quiet room in order to fully appreciate.
It was good for background music. Maybe if I spoke Spanish, this album would have more of an impact. All the compositions blended together where I could not distinguish one song from another.
Too much synthesizer. It distracted me from focusing on the meaning of the lyrics.
Good album! I can see how some of the blues songs can annoy some people but, those did not really bother me.
It was not bad! Blues is a genre of music that really do not listen to.
I’m not really a big fan of Heavy Metal but, this album was okay. “Breaking The Law” and “Livin’ After Midnight” are two awesome songs. Everything else was just average.
This was a fun album that I haven’t heard in years. Not bad.
The middle of the album was pretty good. The first few songs were awful and the last few songs sucked. I almost put this in my library because with the strength of “Red Dress” I thought that would revisit the whole thing to see if I was missing anything. Then, it was one crappy song after another.
I thought it was perfect timing to get a Brian Wilson album a couple days after his death. I know that he pioneered a lot of recording techniques that bands use today. The man changed entire musical landscape all while dealing with lifelong mental illness. I respect him for that. Now I got that mini eulogy out of way, I just need to write that album was a schizophrenic mess. It was really hard to listen to. The lyrics did not make any sense to me at all. I do not think I will be revisiting this album again.
It was interesting to hear songs from the American Songbook stripped down to just a few instruments and vocals. But, I was happy that the album was short because I can only listen to him in small doses before his warbling voice gets irritating.
Great album! I grew up listening to REM. I love the way that Mike Mills counters Michael Stipe’s vocal on songs like “Get Up” and “World Leader Pretend”. It was a great album to start the work week.
This is an album that your great grandparents or your grandparents would have put on the record player to create some background music for a cocktail party. The music was okay. I just don’t understand Portuguese though.
I think I got this album before. Still do not like it after a second listen.
I am not a fan of Joni Mitchell’s voice.
It was obvious that Kurt Cobain was going through a lot of pain. I just couldn’t understand his trauma because of all the screaming. I like “Nevermind” better.
It sounded like the band was having fun creatively. The album was all over the place with the different musical styles. It was really hard to pick up on some of the lyrics sometimes. I will definitely will give it another listen.
As a Phil Collins and Genesis fan, it was interesting to hear the artist that influenced Phil Collins’ songwriting style. Like other reviews for this album that were written, this guy did remind me of Neil Diamond mixed with musical theatre. The album was okay. I can see why Elton John had him as an opening act at his first US shows. Both Elton and this guy had the same amount of energy. Three stars for influencing Phil Collins and Elton John.
Rolling Stones albums are either really good or really bad. This is one of the bad ones. The only good song on this album is “Paint It Black”. Everything else was just boring.
