2/5
The mixture of rockabilly and punk was pretty interesting. It’s just too bad that the harmonies were not great. I have heard most of these songs a long time ago and I liked them but, I really don’t like them anymore. Maybe my musical tastes have changed over the years.

Ramblin' Jack Elliott
5/5
Sometimes, an album with simple production techniques can be really magical. Just a guy with a guitar and harmonica in room singing, playing music and telling stories. Too bad I can’t find it on Apple Music.

Meat Loaf
5/5
Great album. The lyrics are cheesy but, Meatloaf’s voice delivers them with power and epic intensity.
Supertramp
5/5
This album is already in my rotation. Great harmonies, horns, and piano.

Stereolab
5/5
Interesting album. I like how the music acts like a carrier wave for the sometimes subversive and softly sung lyrics. It’s almost like the concepts that the lyrics are conveying are trying to implant in my brain. I’ll be listening to this again.

Janelle Monáe
3/5
Interesting concept for an album. I got tired of her voice after a while, though. Still, it was a cool experience but, I don’t think I’ll be listening to this again.
Kanye West
3/5
Love the wordplay in this album. Hip hop and rap are really not what I listen to normally but it was cool to spend some time in the thought process of a self proclaimed genius. I do not think I will listen to this album again but it was a nice diversion to what I normally listen to.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
I already had “Living For The City”, “Higher Ground” and “Don’t You Worry About A Thing” on my phone. Never thought about selecting all the songs until hearing the album in its entirety. Besides the singles, I really enjoyed Stevie’s song about Richard Nixon, “He’s Misstra Know It All”. That song could about our new Commander-In-Chief. Not a bad album from start to finish.
Fats Domino
2/5
It was okay. His voice was so easy going that it didn’t sound like that he had any personality. The songs needed more life and more improvisation. If I had to pick an artist from New Orleans that I would rather listen to, it would be Louis Prima.
Ramones
5/5
HELL YES! Great album start to finish. My only complaint is that the album was too short. This album is proof that a band can make a that is not overproduced and that it still kicks ass!!
The Velvet Underground
5/5
Great album! Lou Reed’s lyrics about drug addiction and BDSM were pure poetry.
Common
2/5
It was okay. Rap is not really my thing. The last couple of minutes tied the whole album together though.
Pearl Jam
3/5
This album takes me back to high school. Like my high school experience, this album was not good but, it was not bad either. “Black”, “Jeremy” and “Even Flow” are great songs. The rest of the album was mediocre.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
I can only listen to Fatboy Slim in small doses. Listening to the whole album in one sitting gets really overwhelming. Great music but, I need to listen to other tracks between these songs.
The Coral
4/5
Never heard of this band until now. It seems to me that they were trying different styles of music on this album. I appreciate their creativity. The album is now on my playlist. I’ll be sure to keep the songs from this album in my rotation for a while.
Slade
5/5
Awesome album!! Pure, straight forward rock and roll. They just need to learn how to spell.
Sister Sledge
5/5
A really funky album. Nile Rodgers’ bass guitar was excellent and the harmonies from the ladies were really good.
Elliott Smith
1/5
Elliott Smith’s voice sent shivers down my spine in a bad way. This album is way too whiny. This was definitely a cry for help considering what happened to him.
Elvis Costello
5/5
One of the greatest debut albums of all time! This is the best example of “Pub Rock”. I imagine patrons sitting around the bar and having a few beers while Elvis Costello is playing his original songs and being blown away.
The Zombies
3/5
It was okay. The second six songs were better than the first six songs.
Supertramp
5/5
This album is already in my rotation. Great harmonies, horns, and piano.
4/5
The individual songs on their own were excellent. As a concept album that tells a story, it fell apart for me. I wish Apple Music or any music streaming service would have a text file with the original album liner notes to accompany albums like these.
Iggy Pop
2/5
It was okay. I liked “Lust For Life”, “The Passenger”, and “Success”. The rest of the album was just mediocre.
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
I don’t listen to a lot of electronic music but, this album was not bad. I liked how it started out really heavy and then mellowed out at the end. It’s one of those albums that needs to be listened to from start to finish.
Baaba Maal
2/5
I could not find a lot of information about this album online. This album is not really my thing. Maybe, if I had more context to what he was singing about, it would have been better. The blending of Western instruments and the traditional instruments was interesting.
Thundercat
2/5
His voice was way too ethereal. At times, I couldn’t hear him over the bass. I thought I had my sound levels calibrated incorrectly. I was bored listening to this.
1/5
One of the worst concept albums I’ve ever heard in my life. I was bored listening to this. The singer’s voice had no personality. If the Earth was being engulfed by a black hole and the Government was trying to cover it up, I would think a person would be more emotional and not sound disinterested.
Adele
1/5
Way too over produced. She does have a great voice but, the lyrics she sings were crappy. I do not feel that she learned anything about herself by the end of this album. She kept making the same mistakes over and over again and then whining about it for forty-five minutes.
Meat Loaf
5/5
Great album. The lyrics are cheesy but, Meatloaf’s voice delivers them with power and epic intensity.
Stereolab
5/5
Interesting album. I like how the music acts like a carrier wave for the sometimes subversive and softly sung lyrics. It’s almost like the concepts that the lyrics are conveying are trying to implant in my brain. I’ll be listening to this again.
Talking Heads
5/5
If neurotypical people ask me what Autism feels like, I would tell them to listen to Talking Heads. As a person on The Spectrum, David Bryne’s lyrics about trying to find his place in society sometimes hits a little too close to home. Great album from start to finish.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
1/5
Usually, I try to write a more in depth review when I listen to albums. But, this album sucked. It was torture to listen to. At least, I know the title of the song that was playing during Halloween when I was working at Savers.
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
This album was funky. It made me want to go to my local Brazilian food store for some Passatempo cookies and a cup of coffee from the nearby Dunkin’s.
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
The first couple of tracks were boring. Then, it started to pick up a bit. It just wasn’t for me but, it was okay. Maybe, I will come back and visit some these songs again sometime.
Funkadelic
2/5
The album was way too chaotic. It was really hard to gather any meaning from the songs. The music was really good, though. Maybe, if I saw this performed live, I would have a better appreciation for this material.
Holger Czukay
4/5
Great album! I loved his work with Can. So, I was really awesome to hear some of his solo work. “Cool In The Pool” had a cool, mad scientist on vacation vibe. “Persian Love” was also interesting. I listened to this album on the way to work. I think next time I listen to this, I need to be sitting in my chair with the volume turned up just to catch everything this album has to offer
Solomon Burke
3/5
The background vocals were okay but they could be annoying at times. Also, the guitarist was not that great. That being said, Solomon Burke definitely applied his training from the church in his vocals to cut through the subpar background vocals and instrumentals.
Van Morrison
5/5
Love this album. Blue eyed soul at its finest.
The Kinks
2/5
This is got to be The Kinks’ most boring album. Village Green Preservation Society is such a better album. The mix of British Musichall and Rock did not work for me.
Arrested Development
2/5
Besides “Mr. Wendal”, “People Everyday “, and “Tennessee”, the rest of the album was boring and monotonous. I appreciate that they tried to inject a positive message into rap, but I just found to be really bland.
Adele
3/5
Much better production on this album than on the last Adele album. Still not big fan of her songs though. I heard actual instruments this time so, that was a big plus. If her albums are improving with release, maybe some of her songs will be on my playlist the next time I get an Adele album randomly assigned to me.
Prince
5/5
Excellent album! Prince had the swagger and the talent to back it up.
Violent Femmes
5/5
Excellent debut album! Violent Femmes encapsulated anxiety and awkwardness and turn it into an album that a lot of people can relate to.
Liz Phair
1/5
This album is the sonic equivalent of the quiet girl in High School that has no friends. So, you go talk to her and try to befriend her. Then, you find out why she has no friends.
Ghostface Killah
2/5
I am not a really big rap fan. I did like learning about cocaine, though.
Miles Davis
5/5
Love this album! I liked the way all the instruments blended together within the sections of the pieces. I will definitely be listening to more of his work.
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Not a bad album. Some of the jams tend to drag a little too long though. For example, if they would have cut out the slow section of “Whipping Post”, it would have been awesome instead of just good. My favorite track is “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”. That jam was tight and sent shivers down my spine.
David Bowie
2/5
“Lazurus” was the only interesting track on this album. It was interesting to peer into the thoughts of a dying man. The rest of the album was just really dull.
The Cure
1/5
That album was really boring.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
This album was way too overproduced. These songs were better performed live or acoustically. “Hazy Shade Of Winter” was really good, though.
Love
4/5
This album was not bad.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
This album was way better than “Bookends”. I felt the tension between the duo as they were both trying to get this album finished before they would break up for awhile.
Eminem
3/5
Rap music is not really something that I listen to. It was interesting to hear about a man who was uncomfortable and struggling with fame. Just not really my type of music.
4/5
Great concept album. Some of the songs go on too long like “Australia” and “Shangri-La”. It’s just too bad the television program that was to accompany this album never came to fruition. It would been cool to see the whole story of Arthur.
Red Snapper
3/5
It was okay. I think need to give the tracks another listen before I decide to remove them from my playlist.
James Taylor
5/5
Not bad! Anyone that can write a song about traveling on The Massachusetts Turnpike or a song walking down a street near a mental institution in a Boston suburb and make both scenarios sound epic is the mark of a great song writer.
Pixies
5/5
Oh Hell Yeah!! Great album with raw power to make you feel like you can take over the world.
David Bowie
1/5
I tried really hard to like this. This was my second time listening to the album from start to finish. I think the thing about Bowie is that if you don’t like one album, his next album could be better. Hopefully, that’s the case.
5/5
Good album. The trick with any good Progressive Rock composition is to make the listener wanting more despite the fact that song takes up a third of the album. Close To The Edge definitely left me wanting more.
Massive Attack
4/5
The first three songs were boring. Then, it started to get more interesting. I’ll give it another try later on.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
1/5
That was really boring. Usually, I need to be drunk before I hear people talking about their breakups. This album is just way too self loathing.
Radiohead
2/5
The music was okay. It’s just that Thom Yorke’s vocals are not powerful enough for the music being played.
Nas
2/5
Nas’ flow was not bad. He needed more variety with his subject matter. Hearing him rap about weed and about how his neighborhood is bad got old after a while.
Spacemen 3
1/5
The problem I have with Shoegaze is that when picks up in intensity and I think that the song is going to get better, it just winds up going nowhere. That’s the problem I have listening to this and it made me angry. All that potential build up with no release.
Lenny Kravitz
2/5
This is a very pretentious album. After the awesome title track, everything else was overproduced, neohippie bullshit.
The Jam
5/5
Great album. Just good old fashioned British Mod music with just enough swagger from Paul Weller to make it sound awesome!
Soundgarden
1/5
Besides “Spoonman”, the rest of the album was really boring and it all the tracks sounded the same.
The Clash
4/5
Good album. I like “Combat Rock” more, though.
Christina Aguilera
1/5
Part 2 was better than Part 1. Christina has a powerful voice but the songs were not good. That whole “Thank You” section was just really cringe worthy. Also, it was way overproduced witch goes against the idea of this album.
Don McLean
4/5
It was okay. The song “American Pie” is a classic. Then, the next couple of songs were a little bit dull. “Everybody Loves Me, Baby” was pretty funny. “The Grave” was one of the best anti-war songs I have ever heard.
Alice Cooper
4/5
Great album. Really theatrical. The overall story needed work though but, the individual songs were awesome.
The Offspring
1/5
It was only nostalgia that kept me from abandoning this album.
Coldplay
1/5
It was boring. Chris Martin’s voice is way too airy.
Todd Rundgren
5/5
This album tickled my brain!! I sounded like everyone involved was having a great time making this because there was a sense of fun and humor throughout the whole experience along with some psychedelics. Just a really happy sounding album.
Steely Dan
5/5
It’s hard to believe that this was their debut album. The lyrics challenged me yet still respected my intelligence.
Leonard Cohen
1/5
It was dull.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
5/5
Great harmonies.
The xx
1/5
I was a really boring album. I’m glad that the members of this band took jobs producing and writing music for other artists because they could not perform their own material.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
2/5
It was okay. I was a little disappointed that there was only one serious song and the rest of the album was about parties and how awesome each of the members are.
Parliament
4/5
Way better than the last Parliament album I listened to. Once George Clinton started to introduce different personalities into the music, I made the whole listening experience more enjoyable.
Run-D.M.C.
1/5
Boring!!! Listening to people brag about themselves for almost 40 minutes just gets really annoying ever awhile.
Nina Simone
2/5
The song “Four Women” blew me away. Nina Simone had a great voice. It is really just too bad that she wasted her talent on this album singing crappy love songs. I would have loved to hear more songs like “Four Women”.
Beastie Boys
3/5
The lyrics are a little juvenile but, it’s not bad.
The B-52's
4/5
Awesome album full of energy and fun! I’m taking one star off because I really hate “6060-842”.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
1/5
Those songs are the most overplayed songs on Classic Rock radio stations. I really don’t want to hear them ever again. FREE BIRD SUCKS!!!!!
Napalm Death
2/5
I bet that there were some smart lyrics about the human condition and the world today mixed in with the noise. I just wish I could have understood the message. With song titles like “Multinational Corporations”, I was hoping for a more of a call to action than a person ranting and screaming. How can I help if I can’t understand what the problem is?
ZZ Top
2/5
It was okay. I was a little disappointed. The only song that stood out to me was “La Grange”. The rest of the album was just generic Southern rock with some Spanish words here and there.
James Brown
2/5
Too much screaming from future grandmothers and great grandmothers to really enjoy the album. Plus, it’s only a half an hour long. Unless James Brown’s set was a part of an all day show at the Apollo, I would have felt that I wasn’t getting value for my money.
5/5
Oh man!!! Awesome album!! The title track blew me away! The mixing of the horns, percussion, and vocals were spot on.
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
If there was a way to separate the horn section from the vocals, this would have been a much better album. The horns were awesome but, Kevin Roland can not sing. The story about the band stealing the master tape and holding it hostage was more interesting than this album.
2/5
The mixture of rockabilly and punk was pretty interesting. It’s just too bad that the harmonies were not great. I have heard most of these songs a long time ago and I liked them but, I really don’t like them anymore. Maybe my musical tastes have changed over the years.
ZZ Top
2/5
This is the version of ZZ Top I grew up with. It was only slightly better than “Tres Hombres”. It had great music but, really cringeworthy lyrics that would make a young man laugh.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Not a bad album! I liked mix of Blues, English Folk, and Hard Rock. Plant, Jones, and Bonham really nicely together. It just some of the slow songs dragged a bit.
The Sabres Of Paradise
1/5
I never finished an album out of spite before. This is crappy piece of music was not going to break my soul. This album should be used by the police to make criminals that barricaded themselves with hostages to leave the building. That is the only purpose for this piece of garbage.
Christine and the Queens
2/5
The tribute to Early Eighties synthesizer music was interesting. It’s just too bad that the lyrics were boring. The Wiki article is written about the artist was more engaging than the songs. If you listen to the English version of the album, you do not need to listen to the French version. They are same songs.
Ozomatli
2/5
I never thought that a Latin album with hip hop elements could be so boring. Santana pulled it off better five years before this album came out. I was not impressed.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
It wasn’t bad. I like a good concept album and one exploring the themes of depression, sadness, and loneliness is an interesting idea. But, it doesn’t have to be two hours. It lost interest around the middle of Part 2. Billy Corgan’s voice does start to get grating after a while.
Derek & The Dominos
3/5
Sometimes people need to separate the art from the artist. Eric Clapton may be a racist, anti-vax moron now. But, back in the day, he was just a guy trying to break up the marriage of his best friend and his wife at the time.
Now to the album itself. Eric Clapton can play a mean guitar but, the jams go on way too long. It’s not a bad album. It needed to be shorter and more structured.
Aerosmith
3/5
I grew up and still live in region of Massachusetts where everyone has an Aerosmith story. I have heard songs by this band on the radio on almost daily basis. They are an integral component to the soundtrack of Massachusetts. That being said, I am pretty burnt out when it comes to listening to Aerosmith. It’s not a bad album but I heard them all before.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
The album had four good songs with the rest of the album being crappy blues songs. After listening to this and “The Santanic Majesty’s Request”, I can see why The Rolling Stones wanted to go back to their roots after that experimental album did not work out the way they planned. I seems to me that they over corrected.
Cee Lo Green
2/5
This album only had a couple of excellent R&B songs. It’s just too bad that the rest of the album was him rapping with his friends from The Dirty South.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Awesome album about the human condition. There’s not one bad song on this album although the lyrics can get a little depressing sometimes.
Rush
3/5
“Tom Sawyer”, “YYZ” and “Limelight” are classics. “Red Barretta” is okay. Every thing else did not capture my interest. When it comes to Prog, I’m more of a Canterbury guy.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
1/5
That was awful. Way too much reverberation so, I could not hear and understand the lyrics.
Cheap Trick
3/5
It was okay. “I Want You To Want Me” and “Surrender” are descent songs. The whole album was middle of the road rock.
Quicksilver Messenger Service
2/5
It is really hard to record a guitar jam and have make it have any sense without any context. The jam was okay. The rest of the songs were fine.
The Stooges
2/5
I listened to both the Bowie Mix and the Iggy Pop Mix. The Bowie Mix is better. That being said, the album was just okay. Nothing really special about this.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
It was really good. I liked how Neil Young could convey what is like to be a musician with some of his songs. Then, sing about how Welfare mothers make better lovers. I listen to a lot of the albums in this project on the way to work. This is an album that I have to sit down in a quiet room in order to fully appreciate.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
2/5
It was good for background music. Maybe if I spoke Spanish, this album would have more of an impact. All the compositions blended together where I could not distinguish one song from another.
The The
2/5
Too much synthesizer. It distracted me from focusing on the meaning of the lyrics.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Good album! I can see how some of the blues songs can annoy some people but, those did not really bother me.
Muddy Waters
3/5
It was not bad! Blues is a genre of music that really do not listen to.
Judas Priest
3/5
I’m not really a big fan of Heavy Metal but, this album was okay. “Breaking The Law” and “Livin’ After Midnight” are two awesome songs. Everything else was just average.
The Zutons
4/5
This was a fun album that I haven’t heard in years. Not bad.
TV On The Radio
2/5
The middle of the album was pretty good. The first few songs were awful and the last few songs sucked. I almost put this in my library because with the strength of “Red Dress” I thought that would revisit the whole thing to see if I was missing anything. Then, it was one crappy song after another.
Brian Wilson
1/5
I thought it was perfect timing to get a Brian Wilson album a couple days after his death. I know that he pioneered a lot of recording techniques that bands use today. The man changed entire musical landscape all while dealing with lifelong mental illness. I respect him for that.
Now I got that mini eulogy out of way, I just need to write that album was a schizophrenic mess. It was really hard to listen to. The lyrics did not make any sense to me at all. I do not think I will be revisiting this album again.
Willie Nelson
3/5
It was interesting to hear songs from the American Songbook stripped down to just a few instruments and vocals. But, I was happy that the album was short because I can only listen to him in small doses before his warbling voice gets irritating.
R.E.M.
5/5
Great album! I grew up listening to REM. I love the way that Mike Mills counters Michael Stipe’s vocal on songs like “Get Up” and “World Leader Pretend”. It was a great album to start the work week.
Stan Getz
3/5
This is an album that your great grandparents or your grandparents would have put on the record player to create some background music for a cocktail party. The music was okay. I just don’t understand Portuguese though.
PJ Harvey
1/5
I think I got this album before. Still do not like it after a second listen.
Joni Mitchell
1/5
I am not a fan of Joni Mitchell’s voice.
Nirvana
2/5
It was obvious that Kurt Cobain was going through a lot of pain. I just couldn’t understand his trauma because of all the screaming. I like “Nevermind” better.
The Clash
4/5
It sounded like the band was having fun creatively. The album was all over the place with the different musical styles. It was really hard to pick up on some of the lyrics sometimes. I will definitely will give it another listen.
David Ackles
3/5
As a Phil Collins and Genesis fan, it was interesting to hear the artist that influenced Phil Collins’ songwriting style. Like other reviews for this album that were written, this guy did remind me of Neil Diamond mixed with musical theatre. The album was okay. I can see why Elton John had him as an opening act at his first US shows. Both Elton and this guy had the same amount of energy. Three stars for influencing Phil Collins and Elton John.
The Rolling Stones
1/5
Rolling Stones albums are either really good or really bad. This is one of the bad ones. The only good song on this album is “Paint It Black”. Everything else was just boring.
Turbonegro
1/5
The music was okay but, the vocals sucked and the lyrics were dumb. I love it when people from other countries try to swear in English.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
It was okay. The Jamaican Patois was a little bit hard to understand. The music was good though. Maybe I’ll give another chance with the lyrics selected on Apple Music.
Radiohead
1/5
This album sucked!!!
Johnny Cash
2/5
It was fine. I’m more of a fan of “At Folsom Prison” though.
Rufus Wainwright
2/5
This guy has got to be least talented person in the Wainwright Family. Before listening to this album, I didn’t think that songs with an orchestra could be boring. This album proved me wrong. Maybe if it didn’t have all of the orchestration, it would have been better.
Yes
4/5
I am big Progressive Rock fan and love this album. But, I can see why some people would not like to listen to really long pieces of music. This album is not a good starting point for people wanting to explore Prog. Listeners should get some Peter Gabriel Era Genesis and some Jethro Tull under their belts. Then come back and listen to this album again.
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
I’m not a big rap fan but, this wasn’t bad. I liked how they used old kung fu movie clips as samples. Also, the lyrics were easy to understand. “Method Man” and “CREAM” are both classics. I would not mind listening to this again sometime in the future.
Green Day
2/5
All of the songs blended together for me. Not a big fan of Green Day to begin with. I was bored listening to this. If there was a story, I completely missed it.
a-ha
2/5
The only decent song was “Take On Me”. Everything else was just background synth noise.
Morrissey
2/5
Boring album!! The only standout song was “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get”. Everything else was just background music.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
It was chaotic in a good way. “Sister Ray” went on for way too long. The whole album was just okay.
The Who
4/5
Great live performance.
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Great album. Love the layering on the songs. Some of the tracks do drone on a little bit but, still it is fun album to listen to.
Kings of Leon
1/5
Well, that was awful! The only good song was “Molly’s Chambers”.
John Cale
4/5
It wasn’t bad. It was fun to get into the Expanded Velvet Underground Universe. John Cale tends to sing little bit too quietly sometimes. So, it was hard to pick up some of lyrics. I’ll be listening to this again, though.
Method Man
2/5
I’m not a big rap or hip hop fan. I didn’t like this one. Some of the pop culture references that were sprinkled throughout the album were interesting but, not enough for me to listen to this again.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Bob Dylan is prolific songwriter but, a really crappy singer. “Blowin’ In The Wind”, “Masters Of War” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” are masterpieces. His stream of consciousness songs really suck, though.
Kate Bush
2/5
Way too overproduced. I like some of her songs but, I could not connect to this album. Maybe if the album had a little less orchestration, it would have been better.
Big Star
3/5
I can see why REM was influenced by this album. It wasn’t bad. It just went on to a little bit too long. The cover songs were pretty cool, though
Black Sabbath
5/5
I don’t know if generator is linked to any news outlets. It seems coincidental that Black Sabbath’s debut album would pop up a day after Ozzy’s death. This is an amazing album. I liked how the Blues and heavy guitars combined to create a sonic masterpiece.
Arcade Fire
1/5
That was really bad.
Public Enemy
4/5
This is the first Rap album on the list that I actually liked. Flavor Flav added just right amount of humor to make the serious topics on this album more tolerable. Chuck D has a commanding and clear voice that makes the listener stops what ever else they are doing and pay attention. Also, it kind of refreshing to hear songs with not a lot of curse words. Songs with too many curse words make the swearing less effective. Great album!!
Elvis Presley
2/5
With the exception of “Kentucky Rain”, “Suspicious Minds”, and “In The Ghetto”, the rest of the album was really crappy.
Burning Spear
2/5
The album was boring. There was too much bass and it knocked by subwoofer off my table. Maybe I should adjust my settingd.
Randy Newman
4/5
I love Randy Newman’s snarky attitude. For people that grew up listening to his work on family friendly soundtracks, I can see why some of the lyrics in his songs can be jarring. Great subtle satire hidden in the music.
Elvis Presley
1/5
Want to make thirty minutes seem like an eternity? Put on this album! I’d rather listen to the original songs performed by the African American artists that put their heart and soul into every note.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
It was okay. This was a decent Rock and Roll album.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
It was okay. It followed the same pattern of most other Stones albums where the hits are at beginning of the album, a tribute to the Blues in the middle, and a long jam type song somewhere in the track list. The band did not really do anything special here.
Taylor Swift
3/5
This is the first time I’ve listened to a Taylor Swift from start to finish. It was okay. I don’t think I will put this in my library, though. It’s a little too long and not enough variety with the subject matter.
George Jones
2/5
It was boring.
The Auteurs
1/5
I don’t think that I’m a fan of Britpop. The vocals were weak and it sounded like that he was mumbling his words.
A Tribe Called Quest
1/5
The only song that I liked was “Scenario”. Every other song was dull.
MGMT
3/5
It was okay. There were a lot of songs that I recognized from commercials. So, that was cool to hear them in their entirety. It was kind of bland, though.
Pretenders
3/5
The album started out with a bang. As the album went on, it lose its stamina when the ballads started and it recovered after that. It wasn’t a bad first attempt. It just just the The Pretenders had better songs off their following albums.
3/5
The second half of the concert was way better than the first half. Bob Dylan is a great songwriter but he needs a full band like The Hawks (The Band) to accompany him.
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Great background music. Just something to keep the silence at bay for a while.
Jeff Buckley
3/5
If you strip away the mystique behind Jeff Buckley and his father both dying young, you will find that this album is product of its time. A lot of albums in the 1990s sounded like this. The album was okay but, his falsetto annoyed me after a while.
Cream
3/5
It was okay. It kept me entertained for a half an hour. If it was any longer, I would have started to lose interest.
The Police
3/5
It wasn’t bad. It had a great first half and then the intensity started to wane in the second half. I would prefer listening to Synchronicity over this album.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
2/5
Good background music. Maybe if I understood Arabic, this album would be more of an impact.
The Darkness
2/5
There was nothing remarkable about this album. The songs were mediocre. If they were attempting an homage to hair metal, then they did a serviceable job.
Radiohead
1/5
Radiohead sucks!!!
Jurassic 5
2/5
It was boring. If you’re going to rap about serious subjects, you really need a great hype man to make the listener pay attention. This album doesn’t have one.
Tricky
1/5
This was way too chill.
Radiohead
2/5
Not a fan of Radiohead. This album was slightly better than the previous ones. At least, Thom Yorke had a little more power in his voice. The album still sucks though.
Sebadoh
1/5
The first track was okay. Everything else after that was awful.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
A classic album!
R.E.M.
5/5
Love this album! I was fortunate to see The Murmur Tressle before it was torn down in 2023.
Dirty Projectors
3/5
It started off okay. Then, I started to lose interest.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
I have heard all these songs before as a child. So, there is some nostalgia for this album. This album is pretty good. Most of the tracks are about different people just trying to make it in America and they want to tell their story.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
It was not bad. I may have to listen to this one again when I’m sitting down with a drink in my hand and feeling really bad about myself.
Beastie Boys
3/5
Not a big rap fan. This album was okay. It was interesting to hear how they incorporated all the different musical styles into their songs. The instrumental tracks were cool.
Prince
3/5
This album is no Purple Rain but it wasn’t bad. Could have taken out the tracks that Prince played all the instruments himself and it would have been a better album. Prince needed a band to make his sound awesome.
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
It was fine. Lindsey Buckingham attempting to perform Talking Heads style songs made me laugh. Some of the songs went too long.
The Hives
2/5
Sorry! This is not my new favorite band. All the songs sounded the same.
Sabu
3/5
This was the kind of album that your parents or grandparents would put on to impress their friends about how worldly they are. The album was okay. I did like that it wasn’t overproduced. I could pick out a few Spanish words to give me a clue about the song’s meaning.
The Band
5/5
Awesome album! Great use of melody.
Carole King
4/5
It’s nice to hear a songwriter sing their own songs that were made famous by other people. Unlike other songwriters like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, she can actually sing. The album was pretty good. I was confused by the song “Tapestry” but everything was pretty straightforward.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
1/5
I heard some of these songs before back in the day. I really didn’t like them then and I don’t like them now.
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
It was okay. Most of these songs are played on Classic Rock Radio all the time. So, I have heard the songs a lot. This album was way better than “Tusk”.
Eels
5/5
Mark Everett has faced a crapton of tragedy in his life and it shows with the bitterness in his lyrics. If didn’t read the Wikipedia article on the band, I would just think that the album was just another Ninety’s emo album. But armed with that knowledge, it was fascinating to hear a singer trying to process his trauma and turn into something great.
Curtis Mayfield
5/5
This soundtrack makes me want to watch the film again.
Pulp
2/5
The only song I liked was “Common People”.
Electric Light Orchestra
2/5
Just because a person has access to every synthesizer ever made up to the point to when this album was made doesn’t mean that they have to use them all. This album was just a big complicated mess.
Eagles
3/5
It was fine. I heard most of these songs before on Classic Rock stations over the years. I did like the overall theme of the album about how California has changed from the 1960s to 1976.
Frank Sinatra
2/5
Reading about Frank Sinatra’s life is more interesting than listening to his music. I found the whole album to be dull.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
It wasn’t bad. Good middle of the road Rock And Roll.
Willie Nelson
2/5
For a concept album, the story was a little bit too simplistic. Also, Willie Nelson’s wobbly voice sends bad shivers down my spine.
Amy Winehouse
3/5
I listened to the deluxe edition of the album. I enjoyed her covers of The Specials and Toots And The Maytals more than her original songs. The whole album was fine. If she had lived past 27, this album would be just an okay follow up to her first album instead of being “one of the greatest albums of all time”.
Emmylou Harris
2/5
It was okay. I’m just really not a big fan of Country music.
2/5
For me, the first couple of songs were a piece of goofy, feel good nostalgia. Then later, it began to really annoying when I realized that lyrics were just really stupid.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
It was good that I got this album on a Friday so I could break it up into three parts. It was okay but, just way too long. If I was playing one of the Fallout games, it would have been a perfect soundtrack.
Jimmy Smith
5/5
Really cool walking around music!
Gene Clark
2/5
He was a better songwriter than a singer. He really need the harmonies of the rest of The Byrds to drown out his vocals.
George Michael
4/5
It wasn’t bad. The album had the right amount of late 80’s cheesiness that made me nostalgic. I wouldn’t put this in my library but, if someone played this album, I would be fine with it.
The Police
4/5
It’s a classic! My main problem with the album is that some of Sting’s lyrics can come off as pretentious on some of the tracks. I would imagine that a listener back in 1983 would have to go their set of encyclopedias to look up some of Sting’s references. I’m happy that we have Wikipedia now.
The White Stripes
4/5
Great, straightforward rock and roll album.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
It was okay. The reason why this album gained its epic status is because Janis Joplin died so young. If she had lived until old age and had the chance to record more songs, this album would be mediocre.
Pixies
2/5
It was just a wall of noise with no structure. “Come On Pilgrim”, “Doolittle”, and “Surfer Rosa” are way better than this.
Neil Young
5/5
Beautiful piece of work! His songs about love, isolation, and grief are timeless because all experience those things in some form. He just happened to buy a ranch where he could work those feelings out.
Syd Barrett
5/5
Fascinating album! I went on a deep dive into his solo music career yesterday. He was really trying to keep a grasp of sanity but failing throughout his career. I wonder what would have happened if he was properly diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on medication to manage some of the symptoms, would he have been able to produce more albums?
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Too bad there is no way to take out Anthony Kiedis’ vocals out of this album. The rest of the band was solid. It’s the vocals that just get annoying after a while. I’m surprised that Flea never put out a jazz fusion album that I know of because I would rather listen to that than this album.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
I remember stealing this album from my sister when I was seven years old. I used to play it all the time as a child. I was amused by Cyndi Lauper’s cartoony voice. Now that I’m almost fifty, her voice can get a little bit annoying. So, I can only this album in small doses. Still “Time After Time” and “She Bop” are great songs. I’m also a fan of the keyboards in “Yeah Yeah”. Not a bad album. If I’m feeling nostalgic, I’ll listen to it again.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Much better than “Californiation”. They seemed to have more fun with this album. Being housed in a mansion so they could concentrate on their craft helped. This album was not bad.
Little Richard
5/5
Really cool album! Hearing Rock and Roll in its infancy was really awesome. Looks like I have a new album to listen to when I play Fallout 4.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
5/5
Sometimes, an album with simple production techniques can be really magical. Just a guy with a guitar and harmonica in room singing, playing music and telling stories. Too bad I can’t find it on Apple Music.
Fela Kuti
5/5
Great album! Fela Kuti is great influence on one of my favorite bands, Talking Heads. The power of the horns is amazing! The rhythm of the percussion from Ginger Baker and Tony Alllen was mind blowing.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
It was okay. “Stand”, “Everyday People”, and “I Want To Take You Higher” are all awesome songs. Track 2 is disturbing but catchy. “Sex Machine” was a terrible instrumental.
New Order
3/5
Not a bad synth-pop album. If there was an option to eliminate the vocals, this would have been so much better.
Gil Scott-Heron
3/5
It was okay. The person listening to his album should have a working knowledge of The Watergate Scandal in order to understand “H2Ogate Blues”. “The Bottle” is really good.
The Specials
4/5
“Enjoy Yourself” and “Sock It To ‘Em J. B.” are excellent songs. It was fun to hear The Go-Go’s before they were stars in “Pearl’s Cafe” and the reprise of “Enjoy Yourself”. The lyrics were too cynical in some songs but, that’s what happens sometimes when a band gets overwhelmed and overworked.
Hugh Masekela
4/5
Great instrumental album. Hugh Masekela was a master of the flugelhorn. My complaint is the pieces on this album could have been divided up into two albums. It began to drag near the end.
Radiohead
1/5
Please! No more Radiohead! Thom Yorke’s voice sucks! It’s way too weak and whiny for the hard driving guitars and synthesizers.
The Slits
1/5
That was bad.
The Shamen
3/5
It wasn’t bad.
Belle & Sebastian
3/5
I really don’t know what to feel about this one. It has a lot of elements that enjoy in an album like brooding lyrics and 1960’s inspired pop music. It just didn’t sound like that it needed to be “mixed up” a little bit more. The album was okay. I may have to listen to again sometime in the future and see if opinions change.
AC/DC
3/5
Not bad! Sometimes, what a person needs is a hard rocking album with driving guitar and lyrics that are not that deep. The songs do get repetitive and Bon Scott’s voice can get annoying after awhile.
Stan Getz
3/5
It was good background music.
Gorillaz
4/5
“Clint Eastwood”, “19-2000” and “Rock The House” are excellent songs. All of the other songs are okay. Not bad for a debut album from a virtual band.
The Cars
4/5
This album is a cornerstone of Boston Classic Rock. This album is really good. It would be excellent if it wasn’t for “I’m In Touch With Your World” and “Don’t Cha Stop”. Those songs were awful. All of the other songs are masterpieces.
The Smiths
2/5
There was a time when I had a slight “depressed” emo phase. Good thing I grew out of it with the help of medication. During that time, I listened to a lot of The Smiths and Morrissey. The music is really good but, Morrissey is really annoying at times. He is just too dark and brooding. I really don’t need that attitude anymore.
The Stone Roses
1/5
Lame!
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
I liked “Born In The USA” much better than this album. Bruce really mumbled his lyrics and it was really hard to understand him. When I could understand him, the lyrics were really depressing. The only song I liked was “Candy’s Room”. Max Weinberg’s drums coupled with Roy Brittan’s piano made this song sound epic.
Ray Charles
3/5
It was okay. The pacing of the album was a little bit odd with one half containing upbeat songs and the other half containing ballads. The ballads should have been in between the faster paced songs.
Beck
3/5
It was fine. Much rather listen to “Face Value” by Phil Collins or “Here, My Dear” by Marvin Gaye though. Those guys better conveyed their heartbreak, anger, and sadness than Beck did. I suppose everyone goes through their feelings differently than anyone else.
Rod Stewart
3/5
Great middle of the road album. Nothing really too special here.
Pink Floyd
5/5
This album could not have popped up at more appropriate time. For the last few weeks, I have been grumpier than usual about work and life in general. It’s comforting to know that a major rock star like Roger Waters had similar feelings to mine except he had the gift to compose music. This album is epic and I feel better for listening to it.
Radiohead
1/5
I HATE RADIOHEAD!!! Thom Yorke’s voice is just so whiny. Hopefully, this is the last one.
Happy Mondays
3/5
It was okay. Shaun Ryder’s vocals had more range than some of the other Britpop singers on this list. Enjoyed “Step On” and it made seek out the original John Kongos song.
Jamiroquai
2/5
At first, I was excited to see this album pop up because I like the song “Virtual Insanity”. So, I was curious to hear what John Kay wrote before that. I can not take a whole album of John Kay’s vocals. He gets annoying after a while. The music was good though.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
It got boring after a while. The compilation album, “Songs To Learn And Sing” had all of the good songs. The only two songs that were good on this album were “The Back Of Love” and “The Cutter” and I can them on the compilation album.
The Doors
5/5
Great album!
The Killers
2/5
Besides the hit songs, I really did not enjoy this album. “Mr. Brightside”, “Somebody Told Me”, and “All The Things That I’ve Done” are excellent songs. All the other songs made me feel like I was listening to an awful musical.
Bert Jansch
2/5
It was boring! Normally, I do not have a problem with albums where it is just a man and a guitar. His voice was a little too wobbly.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Nostalgia aside, this is a well crafted collection of pop music from the Early 1980s. I can’t imagine another producer or arranger than Quincy Jones on this album because he made Michael Jackson sound incredible.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
4/5
This album sounded like everyone involved had a good time making it. The lyrics are a little cheesy and cringe but, they got a chuckle out of me. The album is pretty good. Just don’t take it seriously.
Metallica
4/5
I’m not a big Heavy Metal fan. So, I have not really listened to any album in that genre in its entirety. This was pretty good. The lyrics were clear and could understand them. It’s just that the album was way too long to the point that James Hetfield’s voice got annoying and the guitar solos began to sound the same. I could listen to this album one song at a time once in a while when I need some energy.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Powerhouse of an album!
Goldfrapp
1/5
I live in New England where we have a kind of milkshake called a frappe. (pronounced frap) Frappes are delicious, creamy, and I feel better after drinking one. This album is like drinking a frappe a little too fast and getting an ice cream headache that go away for forty-five minutes.
2/5
“Poison Arrow” and “The Look Of Love” are classics. Everything else on this album was way too overproduced.
Slipknot
2/5
If they cut out the growling and focused on the material that more harmonious, it would have been a better album.
