Good record, funky. Nothing exceptional imo
This is certainly a good album, but it suffers from a lot of the same problems that most pre-Rubber Soul albums have, in that it has a few very good songs and a lot of (decent) filler. I found that my generation, I can't explain (bonus), the kids are alright, and the Ox were the most memorable tracks here.
A good album, but too much filler to be 5 stars. The who would certainly get better on their later albums.
Surprisingly, this was heavier then I remember. Certain parts of this album could be considered hard rock.
Quite liked this record. Have listened to Roxy before (a couple Avalon songs and most of for your pleasure) and enjoyed it, but a lot less stuck with me.
The thrill of it all was amazing, and while I love Eno (not here) and this record is more pop, it’s quite good. Definitely deserves at least 4 stars and more listens, and makes me want to check out more of their discography
So I have probably heard about 5/6 of these tracks before (mostly the heavier ones) and that familiarity certainly made this album fun to listen to, while the softer tracks were a nice break.
Everyone, however, is saying the same thing about the album: That it is full of overdubs. I don't think it really matters, as it is a great album regardless. Deserves four stars, but I would be curious to see the difference between the studio vs live versions (and the drum solo near the end was a bit unnecessary).
Really enjoyed the first three songs.
Apparently listening to this album at an airport is significantly more difficult than at home; the dynamic changes were much more bearable in a quiet environment.
The songs were also quite engaging and had interesting structures, as well as hooks. Also enjoyed PJ Harvey's voice. Looking forward to when she comes up later in the generator
4/5
This was fine...felt relatively inoffensive
Honestly, in one ear, out the other. Not bad but not something I'd listen to again.
I will always have a hard time truly hating songs because they're not in a genre I listen to.
The first song on this was not bad, and the songs that were closer to country rock (had electric guitar in them) were decent. I found most of the acoustic songs forgettable.
My guess is I would prefer his album "No Other" to this one (and I prefer the Byrds albums as well).
Did not hate it by any means, but the lack of things to come back to gives this 2 stars.
First album from the list I have listened to front to back before (a few times) but not for several months. Regardless of what Boston did after this album (not much), it still holds up today as the first (and arguably best by a lot) arena rock album.
I actually enjoyed the b-side of this album a lot more than I thought I would, as the production on this is clear while still being on the heavy side.
Probably give this a 4.5, but since any of the songs can also be listened to alone (or with the album), this deserves 5 stars with the generator
I think the pieces are very pretty here, and some of the songs I definitely enjoyed, but this is just not really my thing. Son of Sam was a highlight, though, and the acoustic pieces fit well in the right mood.
I would give this a 3.5, but I would be surprised if I return to this, so ill give it 3 stars.
This is certainly not a bad album. I really enjoyed Born in the Bayou, Proud Mary was good, and the closer was quite interesting.
However, I feel like some of the tracks in the middle were a bit lengthy, and there was not as much to latch on to as I would have liked.
This would be a great candidate for 3.5 stars.... I rounded down on my last album so I'll give this a 4.
As someone who tends to like Britpop, this album was decent. However, outside of the obvious Bitter Sweet Symphony, this album seems to lack memorable hooks.
In terms of both length and pacing, I would compare this to Suede's Dog Man Star, but that album both was not quite as lethargic, and the ballads actually had better hooks and guitar lines to latch on to.
This album is just too long, and although I liked the guitar, I did not find the vocals particularly memorable. This could get 4 stars if it was significantly shorter, but I feel like this has to get 3 stars.
This was quite good, especially compared to a band like the libertines. The first half was exceptionally good, especially the first track and the obvious, take me out.
However, the album began to run a bit thin in the middle before picking up a bit on the last 2 tracks.
4/5
This was a good album. I really enjoyed the first track here, and this psychedelic style sounds great for a chill mood. I think I need to give this more listens to make sense of it (not related to the generator, but I had to do the same thing with D'Angelo's Black Messiah). I think this album nails the vibe it was going for, though.
4/5
Obviously this is considered a classic.
But I truthfully found most of the songs to sound essentially the same and forgettable outside of the hits. I also just don't really prefer Brian Johnson's voice. I like the double-tracked riffs, but there are many bands that do this better imo.
3/5
This is Christmas music. I thought the production was quite good, and felt varied and interesting. Although I doubt I would go back to this, it is definitely a good album.
4/5
This is not what I would normally check out, but that’s the purpose of the generator, right.
This album had a somber beauty to it (probably because of Nick Drakes mental state) and would be a good vibe for a melancholy today.
The melodies and guitar melodies/tunings were quite interesting.
4/5
This just isn't for me. The beats were ok in places, but felt repetitive with no variation at all. I also could not stand the vocals for the life of me.
This felt like some weird combo of an electronic rap beat with some of the worst rapping I have ever heard. I get that this was an important album in the drum and bass genre, but it is not something I will come back to, 78 minutes is far too long even for a good album, and I was waiting for it to end.
Sorry, but 1/5.
Not bad by any means. The vocal harmonies were quite interesting, and I liked some of the guitar work.
However, I found this boring, especially by the end. I appreciate it for being an objectively good album, but for me it was just fine.
3/5.
I was already familiar with the album, and most songs but thoroughly enjoyed the funk here.
Could dance to this all day.
