Feels like an ode to a bygone era, released 20 years too late, with a country twist. Appreciate the vocal / lap steel accompaniment being pushed hard on the opener

Seems like a pretty weak inclusion overall. Sure, you could call it the inception album for the cold cut/ ninja tune legacy… enjoyable though

One second you’re enjoying a sophisticated manhattan whilst chatting up someone at the bar. The next, running from the mob through back alleys in a foreign country. Romanic, chaotic and so much tension

Unsurprisingly not very satisfying and a bit same same.

Wasn’t sure if noise cancelling was broken in the middle of London. Lots of scattered ‘ideas’… maybe. A tough listen at 8am.

Crazy to go from this to menulog ads. Hasn’t aged well.. beats are good if you can get past everything else

Blob Dylan brings it all back home

There’s parts of this I really like, and others I don’t care much for at all - maybe even give me the ick… I can see why it appealed so much to a certain demographic. Kinda cool the first track (after watching the TM movie of the same title) came to inspire Nebraska Fave tracks: Badlands, Something in the Night & Prove It All Night

Live albums are always a funny one. Is it the recording itself, the string songs or significance of that performance.. and on a personal level, how much do you resonate with the songs and how does it differ to the studio cut. I’m not sure this has any of those things specifically, yet there’s definitely some magic here and beautiful vocals. A very relaxing morning listen.

Listened to this half asleep on a flight to Germany (not Constantinople) and it genuinely frightened me a bit. An experimental string of stream-of-concious tracks of someone undergoing a drug psychosis. Can imagine it influenced bands like King Gizz, Thee Ohh Sees, Ariel Pink, Deerhunter etc. Think the B-Sides are better and enjoyed getting electrocuted at the end. Fave tracks: Semolina, Weight-lifting Lulu

Another band swept up in 80s softness, not that it’s a bad thing in same cases… Songs are far too long. Feels like it’s made for a few pop tracks but all up, doesn’t flow very well and the slower tracks come across just dull a lot of the time. Give me the self titled any day. Fave tracks: Money for Nothing, Ride Across The River

Weird and wonderful, Eno to a tee. That perfect moment between Roxy Music and getting really conceptually ambient Beautiful artwork too

Another late 2000s indie UK band makes the list… I remember listening to this back in the day and kinda enjoying it… In reflection, the lyrics and vocals are testing a lot of the time when Hayden (?) is singing and much preferred the tracks with Tom (?) on vocals. A mercury prize nomination? Glad this lost out to The XX

The Thom Yorke wannabe and co. debut album really brings back early memories of music. Always felt more of an affiliation to Rush of Blood to the Head & X&Y, but this holds its own. Fave tracks: Don’t Panic, Spies, Trouble, High Speed

It’s pretty cool Columbia records released this back in the 50’s to be like “stop being so white, other music exists”

So a 28min promotional album capturing the first 3 years of the band makes the cut? I’ve never got The Hives hype. On paper I should enjoy this, but it just feels like the empty soul of something it’s trying to emulate.
