I listened to Sound Affects right after Blondie’s Parallel Lines, and the difference is striking. While Blondie feels polished and commercial, The Jam’s album comes across as sharper, more inventive, and lyrically engaging. It’s strange how one band achieved massive international diffusion, while the other remained largely confined to the UK despite delivering something far more interesting
