Album Summary

Extrechinato y Tú (Spanish pronunciation: [e(ɣ)stɾetʃiˈnato j ˈtu]) was a musical project by Robe Iniesta (Extremoduro), Iñaki "Uoho" Antón (Platero y Tú and Extremoduro) and Fito Cabrales (Platero y Tú and Fito & Fitipaldis). It is a tribute to the poet Manolo Chinato. The unique album of this supergroup Poesía Básica puts music to the poems by Manolo Chinato so most of the lyrics are verses made by him.

Ay dios mio this is DRAMATIC in the best way. Wish I knew what they were saying but also kind of nice just listening to the sounds the words make.

I hardly understand anything - but the drive and the beat really get to me. Nice choice, will certainly put this on during a dinner with friends when we open the 3rd bottle of wine.

Very interesting project putting poems by Manolo Chinato to music by Poesía Básica. I had not heard of the poet or the band(members) before. Great music and I assume also great lyrics. (Yeah, I admit I'm too lazy to google translate and read it).

This is just crazy. If this is introduced as a spanish-language collection of poems done to music, you would never guess what you were about to experience. This is wild and fun. Though I'm not sure i'm likely to listen to this again, the music was really solid and so much fun. Enjoyed!

Cool Spanish music and poetry. Rocky and folky and full of feeling.

This made me think of that Tarantino/Rodriguez movie From Dusk Till Dawn. But after having heard this album I'm way more inclined to go watch that movie again, than listining to this album ever again.

Un muy buen disco de rock, no muy intenso, con grandes voces y variedades instrumentales. Poesía y canciones con alma.

I loved this so much! This was fantastic!! Favorite song “ Eterno viajero“, very heavy metal riffs.

Stellar share. What an amazing project. I admire both the concept and the execution. Really wild listen, this record goes everywhere. I do have to say naked on a horse seems like an even worse idea than naked on a bicycle. But you do you, I guess.

This brings back a lot of memories of the late 90s and early 2000s. Whish is weird because I've never heard any of this before. A solid outing and something I'll be listening to again.

Spanish poetry with good music? It's a 5, even without understanding a single word.

Sí, señor. Este es el tipo de proyectos que debería abundar en esta lista. Saquemos a estos gringos de su amable zona de confort con poesía y música.

That’s some energy!

I don't know what this is. But I'm here for it.

I’ve never heard of Extrechinato y Tu before, but I really enjoy checking out albums from non-English speaking countries, so this album was a welcome sight in my feed today. I really enjoyed listening to this album. Despite not knowing what the lyrics were saying, I thought it was really beautiful, and I loved the combination of electric and acoustic guitars on these songs. The piano playing and percussion were really good too, but I just loved the way the guitar arrangements drove the melody on these songs. I thought the first half of this album was a bit stronger than the second half, but it was still a great album. I’d love to listen to this again, but on a second listen, I want to make sure that I have a translation of the lyrics at the ready.

I wish my Spanish was better, I could have enjoyed this more. This album rocked. I liked every song. Glad to have listened. Great pick. 4/5

Well, I wasn't expecting much from this, but it was actually really decent. Enjoyed it, despite having almost no understanding of Spanish.

I don't know what I expected, but it was not this. "This" being pretty damn awesome. For a non-Spanish speaker (me) I think it actually enhances the music that I have no idea what they're singing; the vocals just become an instrument which is how I prefer it anyways. There are a few points where the sounds are a bit dated and I feel this weird dichotomy of taste ... i.e. some of these guitar lines are killer, but then again it borrows too much from slightly cheesy 80s guitar histrionics. Not that there's anything wrong with that... see I'm going back and forth even now. The horn parts I don't like at all. Nitpicking - overall this was something I'd never heard of and was a fun and powerful (and *short* - a positive) rock album for the morning. 7/10 4 stars IMO: Belonged in the book? No.

Poesía más rock en castellano. Un 4.

Much like the Bad Bunny Halftime Show at the Super Bowl, I couldn't understand a thing on this album. That did not lessen my enjoyment of it. Kind of bummed it only lasted as long as it did, I could have used another 20 minutes or so.

Hold up this is actually fire

Very cool.

I remember being pleasantly surprised by the variety of this.

First album on the user list for me, and this is exactly what I came here for - obscure record by artists I've never heard of. A supergroup consisting of members from bands I've never heard of. Great symphonic rock with (what I can only assume is) poetic lyrics. Makes me want to learn more Spanish to extend my capabilities beyond ordering beers and paella at restaurants.

The first user album on the list, and it’s an obscure, Spanish rock album from a super group playing songs based on the lyrics of a poet? Count me in!!

A supergroup of the "rock urbano revival" scene in Spain, Extrechinato y Tu continues the trend of placing emphasis on poetic lyrics while maintaining a fairly standard rock sound. Whoever picked this album as a fine appreciation for Spanish popular music, which is completely lacking from the original 1001 list. While certainly straightforward rock music, you can hear hints of Spanish folk music creep into the songwriting. This is emphasized during moments of symphonic brilliance, where the dramatism is cranked up to embolden the poetic delivery. Is the language difference a bit of a barrier? Sure, but the pure passion that comes with an album like this transcends all language. Majestic. CONTENDER FOR THE LIST: If we're expanding beyond primarily english-speaking albums, I don't see why not.

I lost my review for this one, but the music is really cool and also pretty variable. I think I'd be able to appreciate the poetry a little better if I spoke more Spanish, but that's really on me 4/5

I liked this a lot. Great fun!!

Enjoyable and interesting - exactly what should be on the list.

I'm into it

I enjoyed it. I wish I spoke better Spanish and understood it too, but that's my failure! Good mix of hard rock and more traditional Spanish music. Very cool.

A great idea for an album, and a lovely touch to have the lyricist's voice on a few tracks as well. Musically there's plenty of variety in the tracks, and i enjoyed listening on a loop for much longer than I might have expected to. Good to have more music outwith the usa/uk music scenes too.

Not that this is a perfect album, but it is the kind of album that I was looking forward to by joining this site. Finally something that's not a typical US or UK rock album. Really great mix of rock and more traditionnal spanish influences. Was a fun ride. 8/10

Without speaking Spanish, I'm pretty sure this is what Metallica and Lou Reed's "Lulu" was supposed to be. Heavy notes of Megadeth and Anthrax. The production and instruments sound dated, and unfortunately I think "not understanding the language" fits a bit here, seeing that it's poetry put to metal. Still rules though. Favorite tracks: "Sueños", "Tres puertas"

This was an interesting listen and super enjoyable.

Yeah, sure.

Not at all what I was expecting. I am not sure I entirely enjoyed this but it had some fun guitar rock and then some cinematically instrumental tracks that kept things interesting, so I think its work rounding up.

Extra point for being in Spanish

Poesía más rock en castellano. Un 4.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Jugete de amor, Viento, Si el cielo esta gris, Suenos

I barely understood anything, but I enjoyed the driving hard rock feel punctuated by poetry. This is definitely worth another listen. Thanks for recommending this album; I certainly wouldn’t have come across it myself.

Good shit

8/10. Crap, I keep listening to albums and then forgetting to review them day of. But this was quite good.

Yeah, I vibe to this. A great addition with some unexpected variety.

Spanish rock accompanying some Spanish poetry - extremely badass.

Kind of dug this a lot. Never heard of any of the musicians or the bands, but I understand this is a Spanish supergroup of sorts. I wish I understood what they were saying, but still enjoyed it nonetheless.

It was nice to hear a latin american album and I enjoyed it. It was peaceful, pretty, and overall good.

I'd like to think I'll be a fan of Extremoduro whenever I get around to one of their albums, but as for this sorta spin-off project, it's okay. Spoken words part don't do a ton for me as an English speaker, unfortunately, but the instrumentation is solid enough.

January 21, 2026 HL: "Abrazado a la tristeza", "Tres puertas", Listened on YouTube since Apple Music only has part of the album available Hm, anyone else hear Alturas de Macchu Picchu? It's another Spanish-language, ambitious rock album that honours a poet. In that case, it's Pablo Neruda; here it's Manolo Chinato. Most of the Google search results of Chinato lead right back to this album. As a unilingual dummy, I appreciated the former band's ability to fuse prog and South American folk, which hooked me even if the poetry the music was built around is lost on me. Here, there are certainly hooks beyond the poetry, like the bombastic orchestra in "Tres puertas", but the genre changes makes this feel like a compilation moreso than an album. Whiplash aside, its ambitions, for the most part, translate to some good tunes. Like a 7/10 for now

"Poems with backing music" but the music is chugga wugga metal. I had fun with this one.

Winsome latanic beats

Musi good, but rock sounds wrong to me in Spanish. I don't have a rational explanation, because I'm fine with Spanish folk music. So it's good but not for me.

Tunes were good. Vocals were meh.

Tuneful and easy on the ears If one spoke Spanish, one would almost certainly be inclined to sing along. The rockier songs seem less effective, but one senses some irony and perhaps even some outright piss-taking in the husky-voiced singer. One will check out the poetry, though.

How to even begin describing this? A very eclectic Latin rock album with influences up the wazoo. A bit inconsistent but when it slapped (like on Tres Puertas) it really really slapped

It was pretty nice, better than I expected.

This is all over the place, in what I think is mostly a good way.

Interesting mix of styles. Definitely wouldn’t have heard this if not for it appearing here

Nice enough, obviously can't understand a word of it

This was fun to listen to. Wish I knew what they were saying. Sounds very dramatic at times. Trying to read about this album there isn't much to it. It seems to just be a little side project of someone who is probably famous in Spain? Nonetheless, it's certainly fun to listen to but all fluff no substance. My personal rating: 3/5 My rating relative to the list: 3/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No.

This was cool. Spoken word poetry over some steady guitar riffs in Spanish language. I dunno what they said, but I enjoyed hearing it.

Poesía Básica is a pretty cool musical-theatre-slash-rock-show performance that manages to keep my interest despite the language barrier. It's a great sound, well put-together, and plenty of variety. High 3 or low 4 because the story doesn't get through to me properly, but the music does sell the journey by itself to an extent.

This was great!

Yeah this is a really good rock album, worth a listen.

I did like this one, a nice departure to get some more Latin music (Spanish in particular), though I can't say too much of it stuck out or grabbed me. Still, decent album. Favorite tracks: Jugete de Amor. Album art: Is that a naked old man riding a horse? Powerful stuff. 3/5

Já já, þetta er ágætt.

Not knowing Spanish definitely disintegrates help me here

I really liked the idea of this, but really didn't love listening to it.

This was really lovely. Well played, stylistically diverse, mildly proggy, pleasing on the ears. Thanks for recommending! Fave Songs: Abrazado a la tristeza, A la sombra de mi sombra, Viento (déjame ir contigo), Eterno viajero, Juguete de amor

Sure why not. Poems set to Spanish/rock fusion are cool I guess.

It's pretty entertaining to listen to, but ultimately not something that I would actively seek out to listen to again, however.

Didn't read up of they were actually Spanish or not, but unlike the Spanish football team, this album only gets 3 stars

Rueing the fact my Spanish is so rusty since this album makes it clear there's a pretty epic narrative being spun across the tracks. Even without the added context, this was an entertaining listen – not every song broke the mold I would expect for the genre, but most made me pay attention through the novel instrumental choices and genre mixes. Great listen and a good model for the international representation that should have been on the official project.

Not what I expected going from the album cover. Don't understand Spanish but the coolness shines through. The main list should have included more albums like this as it feels like a genuine discovery listening rather than 5 from the same band. 3.1

I like the proggy rock music. Not keen on the spoken vocal rather than sung vocal. Might listen to one of the two bands that merged for this music.

This album didn't stick. although there were some okay-ish songs

This was kinda fun, dig the latin vibe. 3/5.

What's up with all native language bands? Nothing against it, but it just sounds so weird. Especially when it's also prog. In the end, not bad.

It's fine.

This is certainly interesting. Sadly, I can't understand the words as I don't speak Spanish, so I won't comment on that. Musically it's interesting, strangely it brings to mind the Alan Parsons Project for me. Kind of good, but also kind of generic sounding. The singing I don't really care for - not very pleasant to my ears. Overall this is just okay for me, but I'm glad I listened to it. 3 stars.

Certainly some rad sections here! Unfortunately, it's a bit challenging to appreciate spoken word in a language you don't speak.

I've often written on this list about the challenge of albums in languages I don't speak, a whole dimension of the music lost. It's almost worse in Spansish, the closest I get to a second language, but nowhere near fluently enough to get more than a fraction of this fast paced and presumably heavily idiomatic writing. It sounded good anyway. The music ran a gamut - I liked a lot of it very well but there were also a lot of pretty cliché rock chops in there.

Well that was a fun listen. Accessible and entertaining.

No idea what a word of this was about but enjoyed the listen

Spanish music - as in Spain - is truly behind a veil as far as Anglo America is concerned. But I've liked poem-focused music before, so it's a shame to have no way to penetrate that quality of Poesía Básica. There's certainly an arc from reason to exploits to celebration; More than that I can't say. As rock music it has quite a bit of character, always growly.

I like the idea behind this album, but I don't enjoy the music very much. It's at that awkward intersection of not heavy enough for heavy and too heavy for not-heavy. That usually doesn't appeal to me at all. The band are clearly competent musicians, I just don't like their style.

This high concept melodic rock stuff is ridiculous. A bit too much wankery for me. This is obviously a fun album and a cool collab that has energy for sure. This was fine to listen to once but I'll never to it again.

Not for me

Slightly forgettable Spanish fare that changed tempo frequently.

Not sure what to think about this. Pretty sure I wouldn't like it even if I understood the lyrics. Just kinda seems like kitschy hard rock to me.

Not my bag! Maybe it wasn't bad. I don't known just not my thing.

Spanish prog rock / hard rock with poetic spoken-word sections and logical latin influences. Sometimes moving and well-crafted, other times awkward or hackneyed. 2/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums. 7/10 for more general purposes (5 + 2) Number of albums from the original list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 465 Albums from the original list I *might* include in mine later on: 288 Albums from the original list I won't include in mine: 336 ---- Number of albums from the users list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 11 Albums from the users list I *might* include in mine later on: 13 Albums from the users list I won't include in mine: 22 (including this one)

Hmmm OKish

Not for me. I think I’m old.

Short and sweet. Almost a kind of Latin rock.

Spanish spoken word proggy rock. Niche. Rating: 2.5 Playlist track: Rojitas Date listened: 05/09/24

Solid record, not much of my taste

Lord Godiva.

A union between members of Extremoduro and Platero y Tú to pay tribute to the poet Manolo Chinato. A curiosity from the early century, interesting for fans of both bands, but in this context any of the best works of Extremo or Platero would have made more sense to be included

Great cover. I can see what they're trying to do but.....in 2001? C'mon chaps you can do better. A meld of Hispanic sounds with 80's soft pop rock does not work for my ears.
