Reviews (page 15 of 15)
I have heard a number of songs from this album but never listened to the whole album start to finish. I like how the Black Keys draw on classic rock and blues styles but bring something new to the table.
J’adore cette albumm, je connaissais deja mais ca faisait du bien en 2010 d’avoir un bon son rock fuzze a la radio. El camino qui suit a continuer la tendance et cetst pourquoi cette albummse merite un 5
Wanted to give this album a 4.5/5, but I’ll give it a 5 because it kicks ass
It has it's moments but just never grips me. Probably because it was overplayed. But like, If I want good bluesy rock there's a lot of stuff I'll pick before this. 2.5 that i'll round up.
Good stuff
Ah man. I saw the Keys the year after this came out. What a phenomenal concert, even if it was at the Target Center. I must have put holes in the CD from the amount of times I've heard this. One of the standout features on my iPod Nano. It's as good as I remember it. The crunchy guitars and the lilting vocals are bluesy and kinetic. But it's hard to deny the little weird sections, the fadeins of other songs. The crazy distortion on the guitars. It's a warm blanket. If a warm blanket was made of singing about being a vindictive cowboy.
One of my favorite albums, by one of my favorite bands. It's not as rough and raw as Thickfreakness, nor is it as polished and dreamy as Turn Blue. This album is perfectly in the middle, and perfectly situated the Black Keys as one of the best rock bands in a generation.
Wow, an old favorite. I went through a Black Keys binge phase when I discovered them in college, and I still think they're a fantastic rock duo. Brothers isn't my favorite of their albums, but I understand the selection because this was their breakthrough and it's got a crazy roster of hits. The opening four-track run is pretty insane. This album (or the Black Keys in general) is the kind of thing you show to your uncle who says rock died in the '80s. Favorite tracks: Howlin' for You, Everlasting Light, Black Mud, Next Girl, Tighten Up. Album art: Sort of creative by being uncreative. Black and pink color scheme is always good, but I never dug this one very much. Probably part of the reason I gravitated to other Black Keys albums more. 4/5
Nice
It has some pretty good songs, but they sound very similar! Also too long
This album is pure joy :D
Enjoyed the album a lot, I had heard a few black keys singles but I wasn’t very familiar with them.
Bängeri Skön Garage/blues/indie/whatever genreskit
Ближе к 4, но мб слишком попсово и смазливо
Love this album.
I’m not used to the genre of music but it was pretty cool, actually added a song or two to my Apple Music!
One of my all time favorite albums. Love the songs and the dynamics of the vocals. The guitar and drum sounds are quintessential bad ass Black Keys. The sleeper on this album is how well they incorporate the keys.
The is really a fabulous album. The gritty blues rock is so well done... every song seems to find a groove and warrants a repeat listen. Having a hard time deciding between a 4 and a 5, but I think it shines well enough for the 5. Awesome.
Excellent album. Great songs, great guitar work. 4 stars.
Black keys are good
Solid Album
Classic. Lyrics felt relatable to Taylor situation
It’s fine. I like the Black Keys in small doses. Great musicianship and songwriting.
i love this album so much and i'm not even a dude who went through breakup
Fav: Tighten Up, The Go Getter
This album was super mainstream but I low key love it, maybe one song I’d skip on the whole thing.
Zit wel een goede klasieker howlin for you op maar niet een album die ik vaak zal opzetten
Still not my thing but I was surprised at how much of the album I was familiar with
Really enjoyed it. Didn't know I liked the black keys
Great album, very consistent all throughout, no noticable duds. I absolutely love The Black Keys' style. Immediatelly added this one to my collection. Saying all that I'm not 100% sure about my rating, it gets 5 stars as I imagine I'll only like it more with more listenings.
Solid rock album. 3.5 rounded down.
falls off hard in 2nd half, but 1st half is classic
Not a real big fan of their sound. Doesnt help every single off this thing i s used in a car commercial.
It's a pretty chilled listen. Just a shame the remaster is still such poor audio quality.
One of my favourite albums
This is the album that sent the Black Keys into superstardom. The first half of this is single after single of pop-blues rock. I do think this album suffers from being too long and a lot of the second half could’ve been cut as b-sides. This isn’t my favorite Black Keys album, but is probably the one I’d recommend if somehow you had not heard them. Favorite track: Sinister Kid Least favorite track: Never Gonna Give You Up

Good aughts vibes. I'd never listened all the way through.
Ugh, this is a great album! The blues, the backing tracks, the lyrics and vocals. Fantastic!
Ah, classic. I enjoyed this album, even if I haven't returned to it much at all since the year it came out. Literally listening to this with the impeachment hearings in the background, gives it a vibe that feels scary. It's like when I played BBNG during the insurrection. Chaos to match chaos, things falling apart. Blues to match the impeachment. Honestly though this album... isn't remarkable. To be included on a list of 1001 albums you must hear before you die... like... I enjoy this album but... it just feels skewed. Recency bias and rock & blues bias. When I rank these albums, I'm going to be... harsh. To only have a scale of 1-5, that means 3 is enjoyable, 4 is remarkably good, or strange, and 5 is pushing new ground for what an album can be, while being a damn listenable album. 2 & 3 means it could have skippable tracks... 2 means a good number are skippable. and 1 means I doubt I will ever listen to the album again. This feels like a 2 or 3.
Tylsähköä perusrokkia. Ei jäänyt oikein erityisempää mitään mieleen.
Quick playing album. I liked the hard blues in the beginning and some softer blues at the end
It was okay, not my style but was an interesting listen.
Fav Song: Unknown Brother
The Black Keys are great. Good, chill, cool rock that's fun to listen to.
A+ album!
love the sound, interesting yet consistent rock style
3.4. Solid.
Great album. Love every track.
This was actually the first time I listened to this and I liked it a very decent amount.
Still love this album. This time around gave me the opportunity to listen to it in its entirety from start to finish at least 5 times. So wonderful.
Sends me back to college. Retro blues-rock.
Me likely. Everything is distorted and has just enough edge. Will probably add to my library.
A mix of blues and the back-half of the grunge era of rock music.
Enjoyed it, sleazy and funky, but also quite forgettable.
Ok, but very samey
Good stuff. Gotta listen to it again
Not a big fan, but it's not bad.
It’s got some crackalacking tunes.
One of those bands whose every song is at least a three-star to my ears and each one is rather unique. Definitely enough 5-stars in here for me to rate the entire thing a 5.
A couple of songs that I've heard in like trailers and commercials! Never heard the album, not bad.
I think this is the album before they lost the plot. Lot of fun bluesy, funky tracks on this one. Favorite tracks: "Next Girl", "Sinister Kid"
Generic
this was cool but made me wish hozier was singing all of these songs... i guess i want a fully blusey sounding hozier album :(... it was cool though i like "too afraid to love you"
I remember when this album came out, I thought it was the bees knees! still think it is a very good and solid album, but not as in love with it as I first was.
jack white if he was incredibly boring and his music was in ford truck month 5/10
Pretty good, but its fairly repetitive. Could be about 3 or 4 songs shorter.
Dull and hard work
I gotta say, that was pretty awesome. One of the best albums i've heard from this century, hands down.
Brothers sees Black Keys evolve and are aided superbly again by the exceptional Danger Mouse, Brothers sees The Black Keys toddle away from their mother blues into slightly different territory. The music is thinker with the use of more instrumentation and more layered sound. Stand-out tracks Everlasting Light and You're The Only One see Auerbach employing a great falsetto to his repertoire. Howlin For You sees wonderful glam drumming with only the obligatory "Hey" at the end of each bar missing. Though still heavily soaked in delta blues, this album is heavy on glam-rock licks and rhythm and is a pure joy to listen to. Its easy to criticise a band for trying to evolve and Black Keys succeed and pull it off, much to the chagrin of their obstructionist die hard fan base but so be it, they won't be missed. There's plenty on this album for those who feel Black Keys don't need to stray too far from their formula with I'm Not The One and Too Afraid To Love You both waving the Delta flag. I was a huge fan of the Black Keys before Brothers feeling that Attack And Release could not be topped (this after feeling the same about Rubber Factory). What's also great is that the US vinyl version of this record on nonesuch comes with a full cd promo of the album just like Attack And Release did. MP3 codes are good, but this is the real thing - add to this a massive fold out lyrics poster and the package is very good value. I can't recommend this version enough.
