Legit mad that I'd never listened to this before now. Incredible from start to finish. The run from Pyramids to Pink Matter is *chef's kiss*. As soon as it was over, I wanted to listen again - a first for me in about 120 albums. Didn't even mind the long run time. Can't believe I missed out on 9 years of listening to this.

EXACTLY what I wanted and needed to hear today. Melodic, cathartic rage.
I get it, but I don't like it. Not a melody to be found. Glad it was so short.
I... actually LOVE this?!?!
Too long. A few highlights. Mostly not for me.

Kinda sparse, a lot of the songs sound the same. Would've probably loved this when it came out and I was in my indie guitar rock phase.
Started strong then lost me. Messy-sounding and piercing with low production value, but I guess that's the point. Some real bops! Would relisten to a few songs.
Some great simple, melodic pop punk tunes.
Ultimate dad rock. Great harmonies. Sounds like the 70s!
4 for Speakerboxx, 3 for The Love Below (would've been lower but damn, those singles!!). Way too long but I'll prob only listen to Speakerboxx in the future!
Chill! 3.5 rounded up.
Couple of bops! Not really my thing.
Not my thing but I get why it's so popular.
Wow I hate this! Expected to be a fan but... nope. Whiny and unmemorable, and what's with all the nursery, stalkery, and racist lyrics?
Great harmonies. The covers are meh. Love Mama Cass's voice so much.
It's fine. Singles are 🔥
Meh.
I don't really enjoy live albums by bands that I love, so this didn't stand a chance.
Just not for me.
I get it, but I don't like it. Not a melody to be found. Glad it was so short.
Didn't think I'd like it but it's stunning!!
Longest 15 minutes of my life.
The songs about young, pure, hot girls are gross, but otherwise some good tunes on this.
Incredible. One of the best debut albums of all time.
Dated, boring, way too long. Did not finish.
The singles are incredible but the rest isn't good enough to overcome my opinion of this trash person.
Too long.
Long and boring aside from White Rabbit and anytime Grace Slick sings.
It's fine! But Breakdown is perfection.
Delightfully weird.
It's boring but there are some pretty moments. Sounds a lot more like CCR and The Beatles than what I expected from a BeeGees album.
Truly not for me. This is why I think I don't like jazz. Super dated sounding and just... ugh. DNF.
Weird but a few solid bops.
Solid rock album. 3.5 rounded down.
Timeless, excellent tunes.
It's alright. You can really hear the appropriation of Black music genres like the blues. More slow songs than I expected.
Only 3 songs available in Canada. DNF but not really my thing anyway.
Beautiful. Enjoyed this way more than I expected!
I expected your standard classic rock album but this was... weird af lol. Points for weirdness.
Too many instrumentals, not enough hits. I do like new wave though.
Lovely harmonies but the songs are too treacly for me.
2.5 rounded up. Kinda boring.
2.5 rounded up. Started strong, hated Heroin, really hated the last song.
Lots of beautiful stuff but I can't stand jamming at the end of songs. Too long.
Incredible. Loved the weirdness of "Lap of the Gods"!
LOVE THIS. Another epic debut album! 4.5 stars.
Overly long. Too many covers, and not good ones.
I really liked this! 3.5 rounded down.
Very 70s. Cover of Across the Universe is godawful.
3.5 rounded up. Great energy, interesting covers. Glad to learn about these guys!
The girls screaming throughout are incredibly annoying but otherwise an awesome live album (which I normally dislike).
Beautiful harmonies. Not really my jam but I get why it's on here, and nice to hear some country to mix things up. That said, WTF at the murder-y and disturbing Knoxville Girl?!
This guy's voice is terrible. I hate this!
Sounds like Ross's "soundscapes". No thanks.
Sweet Emotion is a GOAT but the rest of this is just OK.
2.5 rounded up for the sheer amount of singles and Road Tripping. IDK how I ever loved this band. Lyrics are yikes and production is bad (no dynamic range).
Great voice. Liked this more than expected.
Surprisingly enjoyable, would be good running music. Could do without the "jailbait" crap but seems to be par for the course in this era.
Forgot how beautiful this is.
Horrendous. Experimental hippie jazz.
Blech.
Catchier and more melodic than I expected.
I am grateful to them for giving us Daft Punk via their influence but I find this music SO BORING!!!
I guess I like jazz?!
So nice to get something DIFFERENT!
Too long. A few highlights. Mostly not for me.
It's a clever concept but I just can't get into the dark, violent lyrics
It SOUNDS good, as in production and mixing... but it also sounds like telephone hold music
Cowboy is still a banger but this is way too long and I just can't support a Trumper.
This is how you do covers. Great vibes. 3.5
Bleh.
This is nothing like I expected, in a good way. It's weird but it's certainly not boring! Goes on a little too long, otherwise I'd rate it higher.
Can really hear the direct line from this to MGB. Here Comes Your Man and Where Is My Mind are glorious. 3.5 rounded down, prob wouldn't re-listen.
Sounds like the soundtrack to a shitty whimsical movie. Singer's voice is grating.
Not for me.
I can't listen to these lyrics anymore in good conscience, but there's a lot of good stuff on here.
What a voice.
Some deadly guitar solos. A bit too bleak for me. 2.5 rounded up.
Unremarkable. 2.5
Awful and horribly dated. DNF.
DNF. Super boring.
Maybe I need another listen but this felt like it didn't go ANYWHERE. Snoooooze.
Not for me.
It's not my kinda music at ALL but they're obviously skilled musicians.
A few surprising gems in the latter half.
Weird but I kinda love it? Some Beatlesy moments. 3.5 rounded up.
Way too long and boring. DNF.
Bleh
Pleasant. Good weekend morning music.
It's fine but Irish music is not really my jam. I liked the song with all the fucks. 2.5 rounded up.
An unenjoyable live album. 2.5.
2funky4me. 2.5 rounded up.
Started strong but got a little too experimental and meandering in the end. 3.
Some draggy boring songs but a few really interesting ones too.
I can't stand this man or his music. I just don't get it, sorry.
Beautiful. 4.5
Overly long and boring. Really disappointed.
The voice is an acquired taste. Some really beautiful songs on here.
Too many instrumentals but otherwise fun and feel-good.
Great vibes.
4.5
Very cool. 3.5
Lots of cool samples and bops. This is fun! 3.5
This is incredible. Funky and melodic. Will def revisit.
Surprised by how much I enjoyed this aside from the jamming parts at the end of some songs. Will probably revisit. 3.5
Interminable. Double albums are the worst. Some interesting stuff here but not enough to make it worth it. 2.5
Interesting but the last song ruins it. 2.5 rounded up.
Didn't like this as much as Arthur. Just OK.
Starts off chaotic. These Walls and i are highlights. I don't enjoy the interludes or the spoken word parts. It's not for me but I know it's not FOR me either. I get why it's a masterpiece but I won't revisit.
So repetitive. 2.5 rounded up just for Frontier Psychiatrist.
Pleasant but unremarkable.
Love the mandolin.
This is putting me in a bad mood. DNF.
This is boring. Really dislike the long jams at the end of songs. Mansion on the Hill is a highlight.
Funky. Golden Years is such a bop.
I... actually LOVE this?!?!
I hate everything this band stands for, but this is undeniably CLASSIC rock music. Simple Man is A+. 3.5
Yeah nah. I prefer my Bowie with vocals, thanks.
Beautiful
What a songwriter: these are almost all eternal classics! 3.5
Fun.
Why do people listen to this? Mess.
This is what a Tracy Jordan rap album would sound like. 2.5
Kinda pretty but boring and draggy. Not my jam. 2.5 rounded up.
It's overly long but the singles are masterpieces.
I like the songs, not the interludes. Will def revisit.
Long, repetitive, a bit grating by the end. Wish it had more lyrics. 2.5
Delightfully dated.
Classic. Janis could really wail.
Just not into instrumentals and this was very long.
Nice.
Incredible. Sounds like something that would be released today.
Fun, funky, deep, catchy. Love all the samples. Hardly notice the length.
Very interesting mashup of punk, 80s hair metal, and pop. Secret 77 is kinda Duran Duran-y? Had no idea there was a seminal black punk band! 2.5 rounded up
So many bangers! Loses the plot a little in the second half (really didn't like Pussycat or the Beyoncé collab) but otherwise so solid. 3.5
Long and boring. Can't get into it. DNF
Awful.
Solid rock album that doesn't sound dated despite being from 1988. 3.5
What a bummer.
Rio was my favourite song as a kid and heavily influenced my taste in music for the rest of my life: synths, catchy melodies, incredible choruses, harmonies, a little cheesy yet pop perfection... Never listened to the entirety of this album until now and while it does sound dated as hell, it's in a beautifully nostalgic way. The bass parts are AMAZING? And the singles were perfection. Really enjoyed this.
Enjoyable for a live album. Can understand why it was so popular.
This rocks! Songs meander a little too much sometimes. Favourite was Child in Time.
Forgot how much I love this.
Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Perfect Monday morning music. A tad long but very pleasant otherwise. 3.5
Boring. I prefer music with vocals. My ears perked up at 3 Kilos, but otherwise I was tuned out.
Didn't like this at first - bit repetitive, not much for melodies - but won me over by Damaged Goods. Some cool stuttering drums and fun bass lines. I Found That Essence Rare was another highlight.
My worst nightmare: a live album with only 7 songs clocking in at over an hour!!! Not terrible, just interminable. 2.5 rounded up.
Time of the Season is so killer.
This was one of the first albums I ever owned as a child so it holds a special place in my heart. It is dated af but charming and fun. Cyndi's vocals are wild and most of the songs are bops. When You Were Mine is a real standout. Lovely to revisit this 30+ years later.
Kinda boring. 2.5 rounded up.
There are some bops on here but some of it is a bit same-y. It's aight.
Expected to love this but it was a big miss for me.
Some interesting stuff on here.
Loved this. Melodic and kinda lo-fi.
Wow, I hate this. Her voice is annoying and the style is very adult contemporary. 2
Starts off with such a bang (Immigrant Song) and then never really reaches that high again. Just OK for me.
EXACTLY what I wanted and needed to hear today. Melodic, cathartic rage.
Surprisingly enjoyable! I could see Mr Milchek doing sweet moves to these defiant jazz vibes.
Surprisingly pretty and romantic. Didn't think I'd enjoy it this much! Standouts are Into My Arms and There Is a Kingdom. 3.5
Beautiful harmonies.
This is kinda sexy? And funny and dramatic. Adore the singles. 3.5 rounded up.
3.5 rounded up for the singles. Some lovely bass lines. Shame about Morrissey's whole... personality.
Some weird stuff on here but I can't resist Dave Gahan's voice and those moody, sexy synths!
I liked the title song, but otherwise this was giving "I'm 14 and this is deep." A rough 40 minutes.
Alt Enya vibes. Some pretty moments, but I felt myself tuning out a lot. 2.5
Couldn't get into this even though it's right up my alley. Kinda boring and same-y.
Pretty and depressing. 3.5
This is fun and high energy. High school wannabe punk me would have LOVED this. 3.5, will maybe revisit.
A non-christmas album that sounds like Christmas.
Coupla bangers in here, boys.
WTF, I... love this? It's camp! It almost has musical theatre vibes, but gross and offensive lol. Mary Ann almost sounds like a McCartney track. I will be revisiting! 3.5
Started off strong with Spellbound, then devolved into a tuneless, caterwauling mess. I appreciate their influence on other bands I like much better, but they are not for me.
It's more punk than I expected! I can definitely hear the echoes of their influence in music I listened to in the 90s and early 2000s. That said, I don't think I'll return to this.
I like my beep boops with a little more melody, but there were some interesting bits here. I liked The Sad Skinhead and Just A Second, although I thought something was horribly wrong with my car when the weird sounds started in on the latter. 2.5 rounded up, what the hell.
I actually hate this. It's easy listening schlock you'd hear on 80s and 90s AM radio. I'm rounding up to 2 because I kinda liked the song the dude sings (The Night I Heard Caruso Sing), and didn't hate Apron Strings. I thought I hated Missing when it blew up and was all over MuchMusic in high school, but I'd rather hear that for 45 mins than this dated adult contemporary snoozefest.
Messy, catchy, high energy. Don't know how I missed this one in 2004, I would've been obsessed! 3.5
This pedo is overrated. The singles are fine. The best song was Leave Me Alone.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz
I like this. One of the few 80s albums I've heard that doesn't sound dated.
Silly, sexy, and fun. 3.5 rounded up
Sounds good but also very sterile. Didn't enjoy this yacht rock as much as I expected to. 2.5
Sexy! The singles are amazing. And as always, what a voice!
Poppier than I expected! I enjoyed the singles, and The Killing Moon is epic. Might revisit later. 3.5
I love Bowie's greatest hits but haven't heard many of his album cuts. Watch That Man was a standout. The rest was pretty good, aside from Let's Spend the Night Together, which I found far inferior to the original. The cover of this album seems more iconic to me than the tunes, but I'll have to give it a couple more spins. 3.5
I dreaded pressing play, but got sucked in immediately by the title track. What a delightful surprise! 3.5
I hadn't listened to this since high school, and it mostly holds up! Unreal how many classic singles there are on this, but also a couple album cuts that stand out, namely Forgiven and Not the Doctor. The vocals grate a little sometimes, but there's no denying how iconic this album is.
The album that made me say "maybe jazz IS for me!" Very accessible; short, sweet and catchy, with some cool time signature stuff. I learned about this one from NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour and was so stoked to get it today!
Another Nick Cave album? Dammit. *Clicks Spotify link* A DOUBLE NICK CAVE ALBUM?! Noooooooooooo! Actually, this wasn't so bad! Starts off strong with Get Ready for Love, and I also enjoyed Nature Boy, Let the Bells Ring, Babe You Turn Me On, Supernaturally, and the gospel-y choir in Carry Me. A few others I couldn't stand and ended up skipping the last minute or two. But overall, decent! 3.5 rounded down.
Just really not my thing.
This was bizarre, and not in a fun way. Feel Flows and Til I Die were the only songs I could stand. Student Demonstration Time was corny as hell yet sadly very timely. Otherwise, I couldn't wait for this already short album to be over. RIP Brian. 2.5 rounded up
Lovely voice. Some really bleak songs on here. Not really my thing
Cheesy and dated but catchy as hell.
This album is almost exactly as old as me and it shows lol. It's so cheesy and bad, but I'll round up because Photograph is a quintessential 80s banger, and there are a few sick hooks and choruses hiding underneath all the cheese. 2.5
As a certified Elvis hater, I didn't hate this. The Tutti Frutti cover is abysmal and I despise Elvis's slow songs, but the rest was alright.
No skips. This album is beautiful.
A troubled cure for the troubled mind.
I am a bad Canadian because I kinda can't stand Neil Young's voice... and it gets real ugly on some of these tunes. There are a few exceptions where it works for me, and on this album those were Borrowed Tune, Come on Baby..., and New Mama. But yeah, this was not my fave. 2.5 generously rounded up because I don't want my Canadian passport revoked.
I love The Who but I dislike live albums. Nobody needs a 15-minute version of My Generation! That said, the medley rocked, and this sounded great. 3.5 stars, but rounded down cuz I'll never listen to it again.
Deeply unpleasant, from the singer's voice to the jarring and repetitive horror movie sounds in the background. This put me in such a bad mood on a Saturday morning.
Starts off fun and energetic, but kind of wears on you by the end.
I've never listened to a Prince album before and I only know the hits, so I was surprised at the diversity in his vocals and the range of topics - it wasn't all fun sexy times like I expected. The Cross was a standout. This was good and I understand why it's here; I'm just not totally sold on revisiting.
Fun and funky but overstayed its welcome by the end. Really not sure why this rates a spot on the list, despite the banger that is "Groove Is in the Heart."
This rocks! Did NOT expect to enjoy it so much. Sounds fresh and has lots to keep your ears perked up in spite of the long run time. Will def spin this again! 3.5
A beautiful bummer.
I know Bono is a wanker and everyone hates U2 for their album autodownload thing, but old U2 is just undeniably epic to me. I love the passion in Bono's voice, the guitars, and the rough, unfinished sound of this album. It's not my favourite, but it's a great one.
I don't have the attention span for this interminable, self-indulgent noodling. There were many fun and funky moments I would've enjoyed had they been edited down, but ultimately I couldn't wait for this to be over. High point was I'm a Man. 2.5
The Lord is testing me with back-to-back 60+ minute album slogs this weekend, and I do not appreciate it! So many strikes against this one: it's live, has a million unfunny intros/skits, features Waits's hideous voice, hardly a melody to be found, and it's jazz... the stereotypical kind I don't like. I had to start skipping the intros to make it through this. Awful.
I haven't listened to this for probably 20 years and I don't know why, because it's absolutely epic. Perhaps my love for this album got obfuscated over the years by the singles being overplayed to death. Anyway. I don't know whether to laugh or cry that this is still so relevant and timely. Forgot how much I love Give Me Novocaine/She's a Rebel and Whatsername. 4.5 stars; can't quite justify the 5 given I forgot about this one for so many years.
Yuck. This sounds like crappy small-town AM radio.
This is white nonsense and the singer's voice gives me the ick. Hated almost every minute of this.
Hot take, but I think this album is overrated.
I knew all the singles but hadn't heard the full album. It was fab, albeit not the right vibe for a sunny summer day lol. 4.5
Boring, wanky bullshit.
I'd never heard of this band before, and it's a testament to the songwriting that I loved this album in spite of the singer's terrible voice. I thought Another Girl, Another Planet was a blink-182 song, so imagine my delight when I learned otherwise. Lots of other fun surprises here that I will definitely be revisiting. Discovering great, new-to-me albums like these is why I continue this project.
It's like a mega-mix, but with socially conscious anthems instead of party bops. Don't know why I never listened to this before, it absolutely lives up to the hype.
This might be one of my favourite discoveries in this project so far. Looking at y'all's reviews, I guess that makes me basic and tasteless, but they had me from the first song and kept me for the entire 46-minute run time. This album scratches all my musical itches, from beautiful harmonies to lovely guitar tones and strings and la-las. Maybe it doesn't belong on the list over many other albums, but I'm thrilled I got the chance to hear it. 4.5
The Beatles are my favourite band, but I've never listened to any of their solo albums all the way through, mostly because the bromance breakup between John and Paul depresses me, but also because I didn't think any of their solo work could ever live up to what they made as a group. I actually really enjoyed this, and now I'm looking forward to hearing the other solo ex-Beatle albums on the list.
Just not remotely my thing. I was bored to tears! 2.5
What an absolute banger, front to back! Minus .5 stars for the extended drum (bongo?) solo in Moby Dick, but otherwise... this rocked! 4.5
Another album that somehow passed me by during this era. I like the energetic songs more than the slower feel-y ones, but this was excellent.
Perfect sad bastard music. I was delighted by some of the interesting chord progressions. I can't give it 5 stars because I need to be in a certain mood that I'm not often feeling to listen all the way through, but it is truly beautiful.
What can I say? It's a perfect fucking album, no skips except Fitter Happier when I'm not in the mood for robot voice. But on the whole, magical.
I dig the minimalism. 3.5 rounded up
Rock organ is just too cheesy for me and no song should be double digit length, no matter how iconic.
The man is trash but this album is terrific.
The Lord is testing me once again on this journey, this time because I disparaged rock organ in a recent review. This gets a 3 on the strength of the singles alone, otherwise it's a 2-2.5 in my heart. I hate pretentious white man blues.
Idk this seems fun. Will have to give it a few more spins, so 3.5 rounded down for now.
\m/ \m/
I don't think I was in the right frame of mind (or weather) for this angry, aggro, moody and dissonant album. Some flashes of brilliance and obviously a few straight bangers, but this didn't blow me away like I expected. I will have to revisit someday.
They lost me with the last 3 songs, but I liked this more than I expected considering there are no hits on it.
Hell yeah. RIP Ozzy!
All the hits! Love this one.
I could do without the skits, but otherwise I loved this. Really liked Zealots on top of all the hits. It was fun to ID all the samples and references. Will def come back to this again.
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around. Weird but fun. Almost a 4, but Drugs as the closer was a real bummer. 3.5
Great Value Lou Reed. Chore is right - this album is dreadfully boring. Couldn't wait for it to be over.
Something about the specificity of the lyrics is so moving to me, particularly in America. Obviously the harmonies are a highlight. Somehow I'd never heard Hazy Shade of Winter and added it to the roster of liked songs. A nice tight 32 mins, but I wasn't blown away. 3.5 rounded down.
Unhinged (complimentary)
I liked this more than I expected considering its length and the fact I knew none of the songs. I'd listen again! 3.5
It all kinda blended together aside from the weird funk song about Jesus. Didn't enjoy this as much, luckily it was short and sweet. 2.5
A song (500 Up) by one of my favourite bands (Sloan) sounds like a direct ripoff of Teen Age Riot so for that alone I have to give it a 3. Hey Joni and Candle were also decent. I respect it but I don't really like it.
Boring as shit.
I liked it more than I thought I would given I only knew the first song. It sounds sparse compared to their slicker/more produced later stuff, but in a good way. 3.5
Droning tuneless noise. Bleh.
Kinda silly, definitely not boring. Would listen again. 3.5
I didn't really like the last Neil Young I got (Tonight's the Night) but really dig this one for some reason. The ear works in mysterious ways.
This was fun and different! Made me wish I could dance. 3.5
I didn't think I liked the blues, but I would for sure give this another spin. 3.5
It's camp. It's rock. It's camp rock. I've only heard one other complete Queen album and mainly know the greatest hits, so it's always a little strange to hear non-Freddie-led songs. This was a rocking silly time!
I loved the catchiness and the energy, but it started to sound samey pretty quick.
Dreadful. I most certainly did not need to hear this before I die, and often wished I WOULD die while listening to this depressing, droning slog. A generous 1.5 rounded up because at least I was able to finish it.
It was nice to hear something different! I enjoyed this dinner music. 3.5
I finally understand Beavis and Butthead now... This RULES. A metal symphony! Half a point off because it really is long. But I enjoyed this! 3.5
Really not into this. Maybe in a different mood I'd feel more charitable, as disco and pop are normally right up my alley, and I love Duran Duran. But I couldn't wait for it to end, and it took A WHILE.
I didn't know any of these Stevie songs, but I was never bored. The innovation and skill are stunning. 3.5
What more can I say that hasn't already been said about this album? Legendary. Perfect start to finish.
Weirder than expected. I liked Stop Your Sobbing and Space Invader.
It was fine. I just wasn't in the mood to listen to some rad woman simping over shitty, useless men.
Dancing Queen is one of the greatest pop songs of all time, maybe THE greatest. Lots of other delights on this too. Gold.
Enjoyed this way more than expected. I loved the combo of traditional and electric on A Sailor's Life enough that the long noodly bit at the end didn't even bother me. Who Knows Where the Time Goes was another standout. Sandy Denny's voice is so familiar and I don't know why because I don't know any Fairport Convention songs! Great Sunday morning album (I really need to start a collection of all the ones I've discovered through this project). 3.5, would listen again.
Sick xylophone solo bro. This fucking rules.
Ew. Give me mainstream sellout radio-play-overkill KoL any day over this cacaphonous crap with absolutely horrendous vocals. Saved from being a 1 because Holy Roller Novocaine didn't suck.
Embarrassed to say I'd never listened to this before today. It's beautiful and full of weird and interesting notes and chord changes. I've always loved River, but Little Green is a new fave. I also learned This Flight Tonight is a Joni song, not a rockin' Nazareth original - consider my mind blown! Anyway, I get it now; sorry it took me so long, eh. 4.5 rounded down because I don't know how often I'll be in the mood for this.
The features are what saves this, for example The Art of Noise. But I can't take this man seriously with that voice, so the songs that are only him are just too painful.
These songs all kinda sound the same. Many are repetitive; some are silly, and not in the fun way. Lazy Old Sun was deeply unpleasant, like listening to an old battery-powered tape player dying. Did not enjoy this very much. 2.5 rounded up
I think I just prefer singles Prince!
This was super fun! I'll play this again when hosting a dinner party or cooking or cleaning and need a boost of energy.
Rikki Don't Lose That Number earns this a full extra point, but ultimately this didn't impress me much.
I did not need to hear this before I die.
I'll have to come back to this and give it more time. 3.5 rounded down for now.
I'm blown away. This RULES.
This gave me a peaceful easy feeling on a Saturday morning. 3.5 rounded up.
Perfect music to psych me up before entering Costco on a Sunday afternoon. 3.5 rounded down because although I do have a Songs to Scream in Your Car playlist, I am usually not in the mood for this amount of unbridled rage. I really did like this album though!
More fun than expected! Living After Midnight and Metal Gods were my faves. 3.5
The singles are great, the covers are terrible, and I won't be revisiting because it's dated in a way I don't enjoy.
This album is by turns twee, whimsical, and devastating. It's beautiful, but wore on me by the end due to its length. 3.5 rounded up.
I hit play skeptically because I didn't know a single song on here (Kala is the album I know), but damn... my mind has been blown for the second time in a week. 4.5 only because I really didn't like U.R.A.Q.T., but since every other song bangs, rounded up to 5.
This album is obviously iconic, and it's nice to hear The Man in Black joking around and having a good time. But ultimately, this didn't hit for me enough to make me want to revisit, especially the songs where he sounds super rough, as much character as his broken voice might give. 3.5 rounded up because of the Jackson duet with June.
Monster singles surrounded by some of the worst filler I've ever heard... Mother is perhaps one of the worst songs ever recorded. 3.5 on the strength of the string of singles, rounded down because everything else was mid to awful.
Not gonna lie, this bored me as I found most of the songs sounded the same. Best songs were Amsterdam and Le Pays Plat. 2.5
I was obsessed with this album in 2017. It doesn't hit quite as hard for me these days, but there are a lot of bangers here. I think Pure Heroine had more of an impact though.
You know it's not gonna be a good time when you have to find an album on the YouTubes. I do remember hearing a couple of these on the radio in rural Northern Canada, so clearly there was some influence here, but mostly I found this boring. 2.5 rounded up to 3 for the banger that is 3 AM Eternal.
Vaguely offensive and racist?? Back to Africa was sure... something, and Master Race Rock had me running to Google the lyrics (pretty sure it's satire or sarcasm, but still). I did enjoy the I've Got You Babe cover and there was some interesting bass stuff happening. Overall was not a fan though. 2.5
This is what I mean when I say I hate jazz. My favourite part was the silence in between songs. Absolutely started my day off on the wrong foot.
Okay maybe I DO like Neil Young...
Paul, sir, what even is this? Some weird instrumental meandering sprinkled with beautiful tunes. Maybe I'm Amazed is up there with some of the best Beatles songs, and for that alone I'm rounding this 3.5 up to a 4.
Bleh.
This was cool! Also TIL the origin of the Where's Your Head At sample.
Cool, like music that would play in a bar I'm not cool enough to go to. Dragged too much by the end though.
I've tried to listen to this before because r/indieheads is always glazing it, but I gotta say, this has me like <michael_bluth_her?.gif> (you know the one). I'm sorry! I just don't get it! This guy's voice gives me a migraine. Would way rather listen to Queen or T-Rex for theatrical, silly, sexy tunes. 2.5 rounded up because at least it's not boring?!
These bangers have been buried in my mind since the mid-90s. Imagine my surprise when I realized I remembered almost every song. Thanks to 11-year-old me for burning the lyrics of Bad Habit into my brain so that I can still scream them in my car 30-odd years later.
Unbearably boring.
Unexpectedly into the deep cuts. Not a single filler track. Damn!
I owned this as a teenager but rarely listened all the way through, and now I understand why. There are a few standouts (the singles mainly), and it's remarkable the difference between this and their older stuff, but overall I'm puzzled why this is on here.
Can't believe I've never heard this before. Did a double take when it came to Thirteen (you know how those 60s and 70s rock stars were...), but a quick Google search was reassuring. I'll definitely be listening to this again.
What the hell, sure. 3.5
Kinda blended together. Might have to give it another listen.
3.5 rounded down, I don't know why. There are some good tunes here but it's not what I was expecting. How were these guys feuding with Oasis on the charts?! They're so different!
It's so long, my god! A bit pretentious and self-indulgent, kinda weird, but I didn't hate it. 2.5 rounded up because I didn't feel the urgent need to skip any songs.
Daaaaaamn! 4.5, may come back and 5 this later.
I don't get it.
There are some real gems on here surrounded by some absolute garbage.
The 16-minute drum solo at the end really ruined this for me lol. There was some fun and groovy stuff on here though.
The only time my ears perked up was for Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key. Otherwise this just washed over me.
Pleasant but kinda samey.
I appreciate the energy but mostly this just sounded the same.
Yeah, I hated this. Pretentious and boring.
I love the singles, but this was overly long.
No thank you, please.
I found this boring. The 80s electronic sounds and flow start to sound same-y after awhile, but I know this kinda thing was groundbreaking at the time. 2.5
Sellout KoL is best KoL. I liked this a lot when it came out and I still do, but it's not really anything special. 3.5 rounded down
I'm rarely in the mood for a live double album even by my faves, so this was a tough sell. They sound great, but nothing really stood out to me.
A little on the snoozy side. I might like this better in a different mood.
Started off so strong with the first few songs but petered out by the end.
I'm sorry. I can't. Don't hate me.
Meh.
He's a genius, but some of these ramble on a bit long.
Super fun.
I did not enjoy this at all - too many beep boops.
Hello, old friend. I am being rewarded after a week or two of dismal offerings. Thank you, based generator.
Booooo. Weird.
Surprisingly excellent.
Really didn't enjoy this although I expected to. 2.5 rounded up on the strength of Everyday People and I Want to Take You Higher.
If I wanted to listen to The National, I'd listen to one of their albums. No idea why this is here instead of Folklore, which is far superior. That said, there are some real gems on here (Willow, Tis the Damn Season, and personal fave Marjorie), but I can only muster a 3.5, rounded down because she doesn't need my stars lol.
Some flashes of interest (the vibraphone especially), but mostly the was just background noise. 2.5 rounded up because at least it isn't another boring British 80s album.
Hell yeah!!!
Not really my vibe, but it was over quick and I found myself nodding my head at least once. 2.5 rounded up.
Slappa da bass! 3.5 rounded up for Canadian pride.
Dated sounding but still fresh somehow. Monster singles. This is an 80s album that truly belongs on the list!
I liked Bron-Yr-Aur and Kashmir. The rest was just too long to hold my attention. 2.5
Really not my jam.
I like the hits, but some of this is too miserable and scream-y for me.
There is nothing remarkable whatsoever about this boring-ass album. I'm not even halfway through this project and I can think of at least a half dozen albums that sound exactly like this but better.
I wasn't expecting a country album from these guys. It was well done, but not something I'd like to revisit.
Horny in an off-putting way. 2 stars because of Tainted Love, otherwise this would be a 1.
Love me some tuneful punk, but the songs kinda sounded the same by the end.
Can't stand this person's voice, and I like a lot of annoying voices (e.g., Rufus Wainwright, Billy Corgan). On top of that, these tunes are bleak as fuck. Fistful of Love was okay, and there were some lovely moments in Spiralling. 2.5 stars rounded down.
So we're just putting "honk-shooo" sounds in songs now, okay. Appropriate, because this bored me. 2.5 stars
I thought I was gonna hate this, but despite it being the same song 11 times, I was kinda into it and would probably listen again! 3.5
Too many slow jams.
Weird (complimentary). Some songs went on for too long, otherwise I'd rate this higher.
Ew, David.
It's not my kind of music, but I didn't hate it. I Don't Wanna Talk About It Now was decent.
Milquetoast nursery rhymes, not really my thing. 3 stars for Wild World and Father and Son, although the latter makes me think of that godawful Ted Lasso finale and now I'm pissed off all over again.
Ugly.
Why is every song like 10 minutes long and full of farting around? Why do we even need more than one album by this mediocre band? I can't stand this dude's voice. If there's a third album by them on here I will riot. (Oh god just saw in the reviews there IS a third! Getting my Molotov cocktail ready...)
I was so sure I'd hate this, but it actually... rocks? The run of The National Front Disco to the unfortunately named You're the One for Me, Fatty really won me over. I would listen to this again for sure. Insert obligatory "Morrissey is a prick" comment here. 3.5
Another good Sunday morning album. Dolly's such a treasure. 3.5
Ugghhhh borinnnggggg!
I love these hipster bastards, but I like their other albums better. 3.5
The hits are undeniable. 3.5 rounded up.
Beautiful, but ultimately not my jam.
Temu modern-age James Bond soundtrack. I'd rather listen to 55 mins of the Goldeneye 007 pause music.
Some excellent songs and some terrible songs. 3.5 rounded up.
Strange and unexpected, especially the title track, but in a good way. After reading the wiki article, I realize my impression wasn't far off the mark, as this album is known for being a bit darker and more experimental. Accidentally listened to the deluxe version, but the extra songs are good enough that I didn't mind the length. 3.5 rounded up, maybe even a legit 4.
Horrendous caterwauling that couldn't end soon enough. What Bowie probably sounds like in The Bad Place. I'm appalled that there's a 3-hour version of this on Spotify.
This was more diverse than I expected. Lovely, just too long. 3.5
This was the quickest hour-plus long album I've ever listened to. I despise the interludes, the misogyny, and the Diddy of it all, but damn, this is a great fucking album.
I didn't hate any of this except Cool Drink of Water Blues!
Nary a melody to be found. Horribly dissonant and boring.
Sounds like they're singing backwards, underwater. But somehow I dig it?? 3.5
Fuck. This. In the time of Epstein and Trump, forgive me if I simply cannot separate the art from the artist on this one. Disgusting.
Couple of bangers and a whole lot of dreck.
Perfection. Aside from the creepy message from Phil at the end.
The first 5 songs are incredible. The rest are hit or miss. 3.5 rounded up for nostalgia.
Surprised by how into this I am. 3.5 rounded up.
Bjork can really wail. Sometimes, the wailing makes me uncomfortable. Other times, it RULES. 3.5 rounded down just because I probably won't revisit this in its entirety.
I will need to listen again on a day that's not so stressful, but I think I might really like this. 3.5
Meh. Did not need to hear a 2nd album by these guys (and gal).
It's a vibe! 3.5
This made me sleepy.
Yeah, nah.
Were these guys on The OC soundtrack? Somehow a few of these songs were familiar. I dig it, kinda Beatlesque harmonies at times. 3.5
We stan a brief king! A breezy and enjoyable 22 minutes. 3.5 Edit: just kidding, we don't stan anything about this horrible man, oop.
It's weird, but my ears perked up a few times and I didn't hate it.
I liked 2 or 3 songs, but mostly this wasn't my thing. 2.5 rounded up.
Really enjoyed the title track. Over the years I've become a bit of a Steve Winwood fangirl. 3.5, rounded down because I don't like long bouts of instrumental jamming.
Certified Elvis hater (especially late period Elvis) reporting for duty: this is lame.
Pleasant but not as mind-blowing as expected based on its reputation.
Not very fun to listen to. 2.5
This kind of music gives me the ick. Vincent is okay. 2.5
I need to come back and give this more time, but I think it may be a gem. 3.5
What the shit is this? LOL.
Lots of bangers on here. 3.5
LOVED Chest Fever and HATED Lonesome Suzie. This album was all over the place for me. 3.5 rounded down.
Did not enjoy.
I wish I hadn't gotten a double album for my first Wilco album, because I feel like they're probably my kind of band. This was too long and meandering, but there were some gems - Someone Else's Song was really beautiful. 3.5 to flag that I'd like to revisit this band, but rounding down for now.
Wow, I've been missing out on this one all these years. There are some dated 80s sounds, sure, but overall this is chock full of bangers. In Your Eyes is an all-timer, romantic AF.
Thought I was getting "Ooh La La" Goldfrapp but instead got this Bond soundtrack. No thanks.
This didn't do anything for me. Free Money was alright I guess.
Well, it's not boring. But also, what the absolute fuck??
The reviewer who shared the YouTube link to the proper album is the GOAT. Ain't no way I was listening to that 3.5 hour version on Spotify! That said, 2 hours of this was still way too much. Not my thing in the slightest.
It's fine!
Great voice. Loved Stairway to the Stars.
Shocked this is from the 80s! Tail end, sure, but still sounds ahead of its time to my untrained ears. I didn't mind it!
After a week or two of obscure albums, it was nice to get this. Loved this album as a kid, but appreciate it more as an adult for the range.
Definitely front-loaded and a bit long, but there are some great songs on here.
I'll admit that I rolled my eyes hard when I saw the tracklist on this, but... it is fucking magical. It's interminably long, and gets into some real yeehaw territory with the instrumentals on the second disc, but damn. The musicianship is incredible. It might even be a 5 if it were condensed to one disc.
I'd listen again. 3.5
I appreciate getting something different, but this bored me.
I like their collabs with other artists (like Robyn) better.
Couple of songs at the end I didn't love, but overall this blew me away.
Alright Dimery, I'll allow it. 3.5, would listen again.
This is really fun and unique! Wish it was on streaming. 3.5
I enjoyed the moments where they dipped into a more conventional music style, for example in Halleluwah and certain parts of Oh Yeah. Otherwise I can admit that experimental and avant-garde music is just not for me. 2.5 rounded up.
Loved hearing something new and different I otherwise never would've listened to.
Classic. 3.5 rounded up.
This guy really wants you to know he fucks.
It was fine.
Definitely not what I expected, i.e., more melodic/experimental. Sounds way ahead of its time.
Depressing as hell that these lyrics are still so relevant over 30 years later - fuck-all has changed. Appreciate the message but not so much the delivery. 2.5
Dull
This man is fucking corny, but he sure had some massive bops back in the day - 5 on this album alone. It drags at the end, the ballads are trash, and I'd just rather listen to FutureSex/LoveSounds. And yet... 3.5 stars.
Sorry, it's trash.
Brings me back to a very specific and emotional place and time. Beautiful.
This is gross. The 80s sounds are giving me hardcore ick and I cannot STAND the way he sing-speaks. I almost gave this a 2 for Take This Waltz, but any goodwill I felt immediately vanished upon hearing Jazz Police.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz
Weird and dramatic. I usually hate long, instrumental noodling, but this was so compelling. My mind is blown. So glad this sometimes tedious project brought this into my life!
In theory this is cool and impressive (a female punk/reggae band in an ocean of white man music, fuck yeah!), but the abject lack of melodies made it a very challenging and unpleasant listen for me.
What a delight!
Lazer? More like snoozer.
Iconic cover. Decent album, but didn't blow me away.
3.5
I've disliked almost every shoegaze album I've had so far, but this one surprised me. Maybe more melodic than the others? Either way, it wasn't terribly boring. 3.5, may revisit.
I was told there would be screaming.
Hell yeah. 3.5 rounded up for If You Want Blood, one of the best needle drops ever, in the movie Empire Records.
3.5
They almost had something good with Mad John but then went and ruined it with the speaking parts. Very tiresome album.
I didn't hate it. 2.5
3.5
Every song does not need to be 7+ minutes long, guys. And yet, 3.5.
This is one of my all-time favourite albums, so I shouldn't have read the reviews on here. Oh well, more Kacey for me! The perfect intersection of pop and country, this is beautiful and fun with not a single skippable track. 5 stars always.
I tried to do my own thing But the trouble with your own thing Is you end up on your own 3.5
Something different, nice.
I regret to inform you that Dad Rock really does rock. 3.5
The guitars are so sick. 3.5
This goes hard. Pisses me off that nothing has changed in almost 35 years. 3.5
Diverse and delightful. 3.5
This sucks
Maybe it's the internal rage I've felt of late, but I enjoyed this, when I previously would not have. 3.5
The Wiki says the band was praised for abandoning the "dance atmosphere" of their previous albums. Well, I wish they hadn't! This and the other vibey Goldfrapp album I got bored me to tears and I'm annoyed two such same-y albums are on this list.
Sounds about white. 2.5
Spa music. Too repetitive for casual, purposeful listening.
Half point off for TV Dinners.
Maybe the generator has spaced out the endless Elvis Costello albums sufficiently, because I didn't mind this. In fact, some of it was quite delightful. 3.5!
I dunno, man. 2.5
What do you want me to say? This fucking rocks, front to back.
Dug this much more than I thought I would and appreciated the brevity. I liked her voice, the features, and the concept. Would listen again. 3.5
Nah.
Maybe it's the accents, but this really did something for me. Teenage wannabe-punk me was happy to discover this today. 3.5
Omg what a snore. What a shame to make a 52-minute album with only one good song. Would've rather listened to Two Weeks 12 times. 2.5
Handful of songs with very long run times is not my favourite format, but the last tune caught my ear I suppose. 2.5
Hey! So I hate this! 1.5
3.5
It's a bit of a commitment to get through given the run time, but there are some undeniable bangers on here. Enjoyed this nostalgic revisiting. 3.5
2013 Me really dropped the ball on this one - it's right up my alley. Glad to have finally found it!
It's not my bag, baby.
I was excited for this but it left me disappointed. Songs too long, some weird slow jam stuff... I wanted a party!
I like Pet Shop Boys but I did not like this. It was... corny? And overly long. Disappointed!
I'm so BORED!
Aggressively mid, and I say this as a U2 fan. They haven't put out anything good since Pop (and I'm not sure that even holds up).
The song where he asks why he has to pay his lawyer made me chuckle, but I was not in the mood for this overall. 2.5
Why the fuck should we care about a band that released one stupid boring album? GTFOH.
I didn't feel any type of way about this.
Horny (derogatory)
Lovely but a few too many slow songs. 3.5
Huh. 3.5 because I feel like if I'd listened to this when it came out, it would've been one of my favourites.
Unremarkable.
That's enough, Elvis Costello. Also, that's enough Elvis Costello!!!
I was excited to get this, but it was just kinda meh.
Weird but in a good way. I'd revisit. 3.5
I expected to dislike this because of the 80s of it all, but actually found it kind of charming. Wishing Well and Sign Your Name really are bops. 3.5
You know what? Hell yeah. This is not my kind of music, but it sounds cool as hell and is made by a woman, a category of album that is egregiously underrepresented on this damn list. 3.5
I think I'm just a singles fan.
2.5
This is far too much Van Morrison for one sitting. 2.5
No skips except Endless, Nameless for me. And I'm not really even a Nirvana fan! 4.5
It sounds like something a bunch of dudes I know from high school would make (complimentary), in an alternate universe where we're all from the south. But it's sooooo long!!! Coulda been a 4-star contender, but I must deem you a 3.
Fucking insufferable.
Some parts of this were very pretty. Another Sunday morning kinda album.
If we could cut all the wanky instrumental stuff out and condense it to the parts that ROCK, I would probably like this.
3.5 need to revisit
I'll give this a 3 because it's an impressive debut chock full of hits, but my general sentiment about this band is UGH. I couldn't make it all the way through the spoken word part of The End. Just shut up, you pretentious twat!
Oops! all slow jams. Zzz. 2.5
Unexpectedly fun!
Incredible voice, obviously, but the style and length just do nothing for me. 2.5
Too long, but lots of good stuff in here.
Two bangers and a bunch of filler.
Made me feel so nostalgic for a better time. 3.5
3.5
I've loved this since I was a kid, but it sure hits harder when you're an adult who actually understands the content. There's some heavy shit on here! Promise to Try still makes me tear up, and Til Death... is chilling underneath the sunny sound. I remember not liking Love Song back then because I didn't like Prince's voice - forgive me, I was a child, and I've learned the error of my ways. Is the production dated in some songs? Yes. But the hits are massive and the deep cuts are, well, deep. Good job, Madge.
What the hell was I doing in 2012 that made me miss this? Damn near perfect. 4.5
Interesting. 3.5
This is the kind of caterwauling I can get behind. Wish I'd gotten into this when it came out and I was 14; I feel like it would've made me a much cooler person lol. 3.5
What can I say, it makes me nostalgic.
Unreal. 4.5
IDK I kinda like the whimsy!
Another one I missed out on and now must listen to repeatedly to make up for lost time.
Masterpiece.
