Songs so inoffensive it almost becomes offensive again

Clearly I'm far too European to get this shit

Such a complicating album for me. On the one hand, you've got an album full of catchy songs with a distinct personality. On the other hand, none of it evokes even a single emotion in me, and it all ends up sounding too much like 'people pleasing music' to deliver any actual punches. In the end, I guess all I can I do is look at this album and say "yep, that sure is an album a lot of other people like".

Usually I don't care much about blues rock at all, but holy shit is this on a completely different level

This album is just kinda dumb. The over-the-top singing is kinda dumb, the unnecessarily show-offy guitar playing is kinda dumb, the lyrics are kinda dumb and most of all the Kinks cover is kinda dumb. But oh boy if this isn't some fun dumb music.

Absolutely electrifying, magical, dense, vibrant, warm, dynamic, climactic, cathartic, relentlessly colourful, masterfully performed, and endlessly forceful stuff. And that's putting it mildly.

Music that seems to have been made for middle-aged dads with boring, corporate jobs to have a beer and say "they don't make 'em like they used to anymore" to. Despite it being utterly uninventive and frankly kind of dull, they pull it off pretty well I suppose. Down to the Waterline and Sultans of Swing are the real saving graces here.

Pro: It certainly isn't bland or boring. Con: Everything else, really. I truly did want to appreciate this album and its "unique" approach to hiphop, but I just can't help but to be baffled by how poorly everything feels executed: the production, the melodies, the lyrics, the storytelling, the awkward mix between spoken word and the worst flow imaginable, etc. But hey, like I said, at least it didn't commit the cardinal sin of music, which is to be boring.

As a hip hop album, it's less than stellar; as a smooth, late-night chillout album however, it's pretty dope.

I'm not lying when I say this might just be the most entertaining album on the list so far

A true oxymoron in audio form. Finding warmth in the coldness of steel machinery; finding structure in the unordered; finding the future in your nostalgia; finding childlike joy in growing up. A misremembered memory you wouldn't want to remember any other way.

Some promising songwriting, unfortunately held way back by utterly unconvincing vocals and often cheesy, over-the-top arrangements

I'm pretty sure that if you fed 5 random AC/DC songs into an AI, it could produce a discography so similar to the real one that no one would be able to tell the difference

One of my favourite discoveries from this list so far. Fantastic blend of dark, intense post-punk and catchy alternative rock, bringing out the best of both worlds. Every song has its own unique sound and a non-stop drive.

A very mixed bag, going from really quite good (Synchronicity II) to really quite lacklustre (Walking In Your Footsteps) to whatever Mother is. In the end, what keeps irking me is the fact that this album sounds like a compilation where the songs were never really intended to be played back-to-back.

The kind of album where I couldn't point to any specific thing being "wrong" with it, yet it just didn't click between the two of us at all. We came to the mutual agreement that it just wasn't meant to be between us and that we should probably be seeing other people.

Let's start at three stars. +1 star for the ambition -1 star for the messiness +1 star for the creativity -1 star for the occasional cheap midi sounds +1 star for Easter Theatre being great -1 star for the corny lyrics of Your Dictionary I guess that lands us right back at a solid, yet slightly confusing three stars.

The A-Side has almost all of the best early Beatles songs; the B-side is just kind of there, I guess. I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could.

The combination of the spacious sound and honest-like-a-diary lyrics make this an interesting and very respectable pop album for sure. That being said, I don't find the songwriting or the stories told all that appealing or well-executed.

Such a great album. I wish Brazil was real.

If you take away all the cheesy arena rock singles, you're left with some pretty good songs songs in classic Springsteen fashion. Unfortunately, it also means you're left with just five songs. I'd say Dancing In The Dark is the only song which really properly bridges Bruce's old and new sound.

Ohhh yeah baby. 33 minutes of raw, relentless creative force and energy. My only complaint is that it isn't any longer, as it always keeps me wanting more.
