I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
Sinead O'ConnorWhat a powerful and often misunderstood voice. Such a great vocalist. We dumb humans couldn't look beyond her bald head.... RIP
What a powerful and often misunderstood voice. Such a great vocalist. We dumb humans couldn't look beyond her bald head.... RIP
Greatness in all it's glory!
Great album, but to my ears it's become over played. I honestly prefer Zeppelin I or III.
Rock funk101 but the songs are better individually than together in an album context. Musically the journey is disjointed. Poor album but a great collection of songs.
A master craftsman at work. Even if Paul Simon isn't your thing, you must appreciate the man's ability to write and record. A national treasure at his best right here.
Love Miles! Wish there was a way I could get paid to listen to Miles. He is a conduit to the realm of music. I do not have the musical knowledge or musical vocabulary to explain in words why I love this music..... But I know what I like.
This is rock n roll and raw as you can get it. Sourced right from one of the pioneers. My only complaint is it's too short! I want more!
I really tried. But some times you have to admit, it's just not for you. I appreciate the effort and creativity but I don't enjoy this firm of music.
I had no idea what I was going to be hearing and I loved every second of it. I somehow feel more knowledgeable having been exposed to this work.
Out of all the British Invasion bands of the 60s, The Kinks to me are the most British. American rock and blues influences are there but kept minimal compared to their British contemporaries at the time. A great example of pure English pop/rock from 1967. Plus Waterloo Sunset is a classic!
Old school traditional country music. Dolly is legend and magnificent talent. Nuff said.
If you put this record on and it doesn't make the toes tap or put a groove in your step, you might dead.
The things which exist that escape most people. What a find and a gem this one off record. Every punk band has this record in their DNA whether they know it or not!
Interesting. Not something I'd have on rotation though.
Balls to the walls dirty hard rock. One of those moments when every thing just came together perfectly. It holds up sonically and it's attitude remains the same.
I really enjoyed this. Good early 70s am music. A mix of folk, rock, light jazz at times, psychedelia. A good weekend listen on a lazy afternoon. RIP. Another artist gone too soon from addiction.
This album is damn near a perfect blend. The mix of hip hop, soul, rhythm, and beats is perfect. Everything in this record is working together in perfect harmony. Each track flows together effortlessly. Nor does the use of modern technology overshadow any of the grooves. Sounds both old and new.
Great album that takes me back to being a kid in the early 80s. This album was everywhere. Each song unlocks a different memory for me. Music can be magical.
I think the impact of this album has been lost over the last fifty years. So many bands were influenced by it that we can no longer feel the original impact. That said, there is fat on the album that was common with studio indulgence at the time. But if I were asked to describe early 70s FM album oriented rock.... This album is a great place to start.
I honestly didn't know what I would be hearing. To my ears it's enjoyable but didn't knock my socks off. Good vibes and blends of indie rock, psychedelia, trance etc
With history on my side, the early 90s really over did it with album length. The change from limited record space to limitless cd space gave way to lots of filler. Other than having too much material to absorb, the music was fine. Pixies-esque for the obvious reason.
Proof that you don't need a large group of musicians to make a catchy noise. Every once in awhile an artist comes along and deconstructs the pomposity of the music industry. This is one of those moments. Keep it simple.
Good mellow music. Was able to enjoy it on a nice sunny afternoon. Talented song writer and skilled guitarist. The mood is melancholy on purpose. And pulls out off well.
God bless the punk rock movement. God bless rock-a-billy . And God bless the Cramps for bringing the two together. The Cramps should be thanked and credited with keeping it simple. Great toe tapping and head bobbing music. Loved every second. Music doesn't need to be polished, technical and pretty to be amazing! Liked it so much I was sad when it was over.... Time to relisten! .
This album is an essential to our human existence. A musical landmark. Still sounds ahead of it's time.
Very deep, introspective lyrics with almost a light hearted musical approach. Best of both worlds. A young woman with things on her mind. And Joni sings her songs with the voice of an angel.
I really enjoyed this!
It was neither good nor bad.
Getting down just for the funk of it.
I appreciate the Police for their eclectic approach to music. But I didn't really enjoy them. Fine music but not for me.
Classic Joni
I don't think the album has lived up to the 50+ years of hype. I kept waiting for a mind-blowing moment that never happened.
Genius. Far and away the best psychedelic record ever made. Better than Sgt Pepper.
Could not finish it. Not for me. Not enjoyable to the ears. I skipped along trying to find at least a beat I could enjoy but nope.
A+ concept album Jethro Tull you must admit is the greatest band to mix rock with flute.
An often overlooked gem. Doesn't get enough praise.
Great bright pop rock from Britain out of the early 80s
A mix of genres brought together in a very jarring way. Sometimes it's almost deliberately unlistenable. Which is an interesting approach.
U2 is not my thing. I admit they are gifted song makers but not my cup of tea. This is a huge record in their development both musically and politically.
Great album. Hard not to feel amazing when hearing it!
Good album but I didn't enjoy it terribly much. It's weird but they seem influenced by bands I don't like. But oh well just my opinion
Great record for guitar lovers. Features talent showcasing a number of different styles of music. And the guitar is not overdubbed or put into a bunch of effects pedals etc. Good music. A+
The beginning of a legend.
I had no prior knowledge of this album. So going in my first impression is a pleasant acoustic mix of genres. Ranging from Celtic to psychedelic with all the classic folk influences you'd expect by the time of it's recording.
Great mix of soul, jazz, pop brought together by a legend in her youth
Funny how something that once sounded groundbreaking now sounds almost amateurish.
Fun jam band vibes of folk and rock
It's like pop meets soul music
This is well made music. But it's not something I enjoyed.
Amazing record from an amazing mind. Lyrically innovative discussing social aspects. Must remember this is a soundtrack. And it overshadows the movie it scores in every way possible. The music in Superfly lives on and the movie is forgotten.
It was good and powerful. I understand why some people were into Paul Weller like a cult.
Sonic Youth to me always seems five years ahead of what everyone else is doing at the time. Still sounds new and fresh. Or maybe I'm jaded. I dunno. I liked it. Leave me alone.
I enjoyed it quite a lot. Honestly I enjoyed it way more than I was expecting. Good straight forward indie rock. Well done Killers.
Nope. I'm not impressed by how many F bombs can be dropped in 30 seconds. Next please.
Another musical masterpiece ruined by FM radio playing it to death. It is musically and technically brilliant but WAY over played.
I liked some parts and disliked some other parts.
Sure does beat that Tupac album I had to hear a few days ago.
Nothing too bad or too good Solid two stars all the way.
I enjoyed it but my mind wasn't blown away.
Genius at work here. Stevie was a force of nature in the 70s
A musical changing of the guard. When rock n roll became something to be taken seriously.
I thought it was lackluster compared to his earlier work. But maybe that was the point. We get old, we mature and we change.
Very dramatic with a powerful voice. Not something I could cruise around in the car listening and relaxing.
This album can not be fully appreciated without the accompanying music videos. This album and the rise of MTV were in lock step in the early 80s. The album is great as is but the music video revolution helped sell some units.
It's alright. Traffic's later albums, in my opinion, are much better.
I've always enjoyed Charlie Byrd. And I totally enjoyed this as well. A+
Cat Stevens music always takes me to a utopian place that only exists in my head
Didn't like it at first but started to really enjoy it half way in.... Then I lost interest towards the end.
Now we're talking. Had this on cassette when it came out. Don't think I can give a fair evaluation from prior life experiences. Lots of memories tied up with this album playing in the background. And playing loud in the foreground! It's really good.
So I like all eras of the Bee Gees. This is not their strongest outing. Meh.
Nostalgic for me. It's also fascinating how something that was so revolutionary now sounds quaint after 30 years.
Great rhythm and blues rock and roll
What a powerful and often misunderstood voice. Such a great vocalist. We dumb humans couldn't look beyond her bald head.... RIP
Duran Duran is a fine band with some enjoyable songs. But I have no understanding what warrants them to be on this list.
Well it didn't make me want to kill myself nor did I make me want to get up and dance. Solid 2 stars. The cover art is the best part.
Great music but don't listen to it if you're working out.
Middle of the road rock
I was 13 when this album was released. I've owned a copy ever since. I adore this record more now than I did then.
SLAYER!!! SLAYER!!!! SLAYER!!!!! F@CKING SLAYER!!!
For something that is over 40 years old it still sounds fresh. Timeless.
Sounds like modern day pro wrestling entrance music
This record is guaranteed to improve your interplanetary funkmanship.
Probably the greatest balls to the walls American rock and roll record of the 1970s. If not this then Fun House is the way to go. Mind you I am in no way impartial...I have a cat named Iggy.
Kinda like a mix tape of modern ambient experimental jazz?
Good but the Doors were burned out at this point. IMO
U2 equals meh
It's alright. Fun. Didn't knock my socks off.
Not just one of the greatest Nirvana performances of all time. Simply one the greatest performances by ANYONE EVER!
British reggae.... Okie dokie.
I didn't like this music when it came out. And I still don't like this music however many years later. The cover is better than the music within.
This was a grand pile of mediocrity delicately sprinkled with a hardy dose of meh.
Genius
She had soul beyond her years. Gone too soon RIP
This is Bob's masterpiece. A musical description of utopia.
Good album. I am reminded of the history of the era which this was released. A time when the music industry was not manufacturing vinyl, it was all CDs or mp3. Yet the musicians had effects put on their songs to replicate the sound of listening to vinyl. This amuses me.
Kraftwerk is the most innovative, musically important band most people have never heard.
I'd gladly marathon this over the likes of Adele or Taylor Swift any day of the week.
Greatness. Humans will listen to Jimi Hendrix until we die off
It's Queen but they're just not there yet.
Good story telling is missing in modern music. This album reminds me of the more profound music scene that existed.
A fun mix but it got repetitive
Classic Rush. Classic rock radio alas played these songs to death.
My sister loves Nick Cave. Please don't tell her I'm only giving this 3 stars.
So I like Johnny Marr but I don't care for Morrissey. Aint that a pickle?
This album was a lifeline to a rock n roll oasis in the sea of disco
Classic Clapton
Great album. Putting aside the myth and legends surrounding Gram Parsons' wild lifestyle. The facts are he wrote great songs, could sing beautifully, and had put together one hell of a backing band - Emmy Lou Harris, Robbie Tut, James Burton amongst other names. Talk about a red hot band! Gone too soon, RIP
It's a pleasure and a privilege to listen to this album. Thank you, may I have another? I fanboy the Stooges so I can't give a proper review. I've just loved this record since first hearing it. It is what it is. That's it. You either take it or you fucking don't. My cat is named Iggy BTW.
People that knock this album due to its length are the killjoys of our society. Just enjoy life and enjoy a good tune. It's like the people that complain the White Album is too long. Maybe it's listeners attention deficit disorder that's the issue?
Lots of recording artist of this era seemed almost determined to create THEIR Sgt Pepper. I would say it's not Sgt Pepper but it is Elton John's masterpiece.
I thought it was good
I didn't think it was that incredible. The Kinks can write and record a good song but their albums are always lackluster.
This is where the bar has been set since 1973.
Sometimes I like Bjork and sometimes I don't. This time I did.
I mean this in the most respectful way. My initial reaction was, it's like a Tom Waits impersonator with a smooth baritone voice.
Mixing funk with universal politics. Right on.
A solid 2 stars. I assume someone in the band was a fan of Jeff Lynne.
Not my favorite Bob record. Gets more praise than I think it deserves.
Ummm. I mean. Why?
I thought it was good. I like her individuality.
Nice and trippy with a hint of garage rock. Well done.
Musically ahead of the pack. Few years later after it was released so many were chasing this sound.
Van the man at his finest.
I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this record. Usually rap isn't my sweet spot but every once in awhile one gets to me.
I sure do like experimental jazz!! I joined up with this project to be exposed to music like this. Much love.
I remember watching Dee Lite on the Arsenio Hall Show..... Music is such a magical force. Tied up with memories.... Rushing back with right motivation.
In my top ten best records of all time list. One of those few albums I own multiple copies of in different formats.
It was okay but nothing memorable. Solid 2 stars.
Meh.
REM made the whole mainstream music industry pay attention with this release. Only a few years later and the while mainstream was trying to be REM.
Hard to explain how big this was if you weren't there in 85.
Started strong and quickly went to shit.
Neil drawing a line in the sand with this one... And I'm on Neil's side.
Catchy but repetitive. Also. It was good for when I was young and dealing with breakups etc. Now I'm older and get a bit annoyed by what sounds like complaints.
Lord have mercy this was good!
Started off well but got a bit pretentious. Solid three stars.
Harry had a great voice. The album is basically a collection of party songs with a few gems mixed in. His cover of Without You is a masterpiece.
I really love Bob but I don't feel this deserves to be here.
I like Johnny Marr but not Morrissey. His voice gets annoying. Kills the vibes in the music.
This is nice relaxing music for a lazy morning. 🙂
Incredibly good. Great songwriting. Excellent studio production. Solid album. No weakness to my ears.
It's good but David Crosby shines when he's in a collaboration not a solo venture. I think he even admitted to such. RIP
Had its high points and low points.
I found it good but repetitive.
Moment of silence please for all the bros that sprained their wrists air guitaring to this over the years.
Classic early 70s AM Gold
This is important. This is a perfect album. This should be taught as part of high school curriculum.
It is the poetry of drugs and promiscuous sex. Honey, they're on pot.
Sounds old yet new. Tired but fresh. Golden but trashy. Planned but chaotic. Vintage but modern.
Music made by people that like smelling their own farts.
This album is overshadowed by what the Beatles did only a couple years later. The Beatles here are showing themselves as series musicians. Even the cover states that. Beatlemania was birthed from this record. Meteoric in all aspects. This has a Pandora effect. .
Bjork the prequel
It's got words and guitar.
Heavy. I like it better when Genesis was a five piece.
Real music keeping it real. Heavy and often profound lyrical content. Sometimes heavy metal and sometimes funk mixed with elements of rap and global awareness. Music humans will be talking about for years to come.
Music that makes me feel young... I got to see NIN in September 1995 open for David Bowie. A lot of music from this album was played that night. I was 15 and had my mind melted. Music is magic. Memories attach and like a time machine take you back when you hear it.
I was originally writing a sarcastic review...... but will be nice and say this music was not for me when it came out. And it's still not music for me.
A solid 2 stars. 1 for effort and 1 for ending it under an hour. Nothing too memorable. Forgot the name of the band half way into it.
Nothing too memorable. Kinda bland. Two stars for some good sampling.
The birth of adult contemporary? Dead on arrival, no pulse detected. My word was this dreary. I like a good slow song but my God I need something with a spark of life. It's like music you listen to at brunch..... And I never eat brunch.
Started strong then wandered away. Everybody during this time, especially British bands, were trying to do a Sgt. Pepper.
I never got into Soundgarden too heavily. I appreciate their craft but it never clicked with me. I like all the parts individually. Chris had a great voice. I like the guitars, bass and drums. I appreciate the lyrics etc. Even enjoyed some of their videos. But just not my thing.
Low impact cardio music.
I mean it's catchy but I'm starting to wonder about the head space of the Creator of this list. I was hoping for some heavier music of a less modern age.
I'm not honestly the best judge of rap but I enjoy the complexities of the backing tracks. I'd give it a solid three stars. Got a nice groove but I didn't find myself liking any of the songs for repeat listening.
Good roots reggae
Fun but nothing I'd repeat.
I'm a softee for early 90s grunge/punk etc. So I enjoyed this. Probably not for everyone.
