The Seldom Seen Kid
ElbowNever heard of this band before. I got a milquetoast Coldplay vibe. Like, not awful but not memorable at all.

I can’t help but like this a little because it’s so unabashedly crappy. It’s like a parody of 1990 electronica.
This album is one banger hit after another. I had this tape as a kid but forgot how loaded with hits it is. Such a solid band and a fun nostalgia listen.
What an absolute balm this album is. Young is a master beyond his years. I wish I’d been alive in 1969 to experience this in its time. Also, talk about track 1 bangers—Cinnamon Girl is so rad!
What was this nonsense?! I am not generally a fan of punk so maybe this is good and I’m not metal enough to get it? I had a hard time distinguishing among the songs as they all appeared to begin with the same painful wall of noise.
This album is just a vehicle for their magnum opus, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, with a few basic trippy songs filling in the other 18 minutes of this album. And that magnum opus was supposed to be called “In the Garden of Eden” but the singer was so hammered he slurred the lyrics and here we are today. Can we please bring back the 36 minute album? That’s the best thing about it.
When I first saw this band described as “post punk” I thought, oh lord kill me now, but I ended up enjoying it. Very REM but less poppy.
Unimpeachable.
Classic. We play this every year at our fam holiday get-togethers.
A couple of really creative and unique songs. I love how piano-forward this album is. But as a whole, I’d call this album fine, not great.
Base trash.
In 2024 this one no longer sounds very original, but I still enjoyed the listen. He was obviously influenced by Steve Earle.
Not my jam.
I thought this was boring when my parents used to play it but now I like it a lot. Much more artsy and nerdy than I’d given these guys credit for.
.
Always a favorite. Never get tired of a good ol’ listen to this one.
What a delightful surprise! Really dig this. Very chill and I appreciate bands who include instrumental tracks.
Loved this a lot.
