The WhoKeith Moon! Solid Who material but very long.
Keith Moon! Solid Who material but very long.
Kept listening for that "standout track" that never came. Fine music but no wow for me.
If you want emotion and energy, this is it. So perfect even now with Trump 2.0 tearing this country apart.
Super stories and varied instrumentation to the songs. Does have a good re-listen quality
Knew the opening track but the rest was new. Definitely noisy hard rock. Did not really connect with this album.
Perhaps nostalgia or just good music through and through. Multiple, hug hits on this album.
I do like Coldplay but haven’t heard the full album before. Very good, very chill album. No big rockers but good end to end
Title track is one of my favorite songs of all time. So, so, so good. The rest of the album is a bit of a shrug. Liked the instrumental songs on the second side. A bit hard to remember what 1977 and a divided Berlin felt like.
Maybe punk is not my thing. One one of the songs really grabbed me. I will say I was surprised by the musical virtuosity. My expectations were way below how well they played.
HIgh production quality with lots of symphonic additions and multi-instrument parts. Might require mutiple listens to get the hang of the lyrics. Otherwise the album is good but not thrilling. For it’s not worth a re-listen. Gave it two starts but could have been only one
This is an old album at this point. Plenty of hits and still good music, but the electroic genre has moved so far since 1999. An enjoyable trip down memory lane, but not something I would come back to again.
Distortion plus poetry. Not what I expected, which was more shredding guitars. There was some of that but not a lot of melodic songs. 2x
Unknown to me until I listened. Country! And rock! But mostly country. Good stuff and a good history if you read his bio.
Liked this a lot more than I was expecting. Big, sweeping songs with interesting lyrics.
Dance music! First couple of songs were ok but them not many made me want to dance. Well done but found it underwhelming.
After the massive lead off hit Humpty Dance, the album does go in a different direction.
Surprisingly good album. Never heard of the band. Pop for sure but has good relisten value.
Not an enthusiastic listen. Yet the songs didn’t meet me in the middle, either. Did not find much I wanted to go back and listen to here.
Not 100% my jam. Hard to hear the words as he is buried in the mix. I like hip hop but this didn’t work for me
Over the top sound! Huge production and instrumentation on this double album. Lots of Beatles influence seeps through. Was familiar with ELO but never took the deep dive on this one.
Loud jangly and fun. Better musically than I expected. Found myself bopping along to more than few tunes. Not a relisten however.
Was excited when I saw Tony Allen was in the group. But did not get enough of him on the album. Did not get much of anything from this album. Kinda bland and little differentiation among songs.
Rocker harder and harder as the show went on. Really rocking out by the end. Not likely to relisten, sadly.
UK pop? Neo-psychedelic? Hard to pick those apart on this album. Some good tunes but also some clunkers. Might appeal to some but no to me. Two stars just as I’m highly unlikely to listen again.
Wonderful change of pace from the regular stuff. Those picking sounds from the guitar are awesome. Easy to see these as the roots of more modern African rock/blues groups.
Good old straight rock and R&B, but with Joplin’s incredible voice and personality.
Some very personal, at times loving and other times dark, lyrics and songs. Then there are these wonderful little songs out of nowhere. This is not the power pop of "September Gurls" and is instead something else, something different, but something good.
What to say about this one that hasn’t been said. What does it lack? Hits? Musicianship? Lyrics? Production? A variety of song styles. Nope, it has it all.
An old friend that brings back sunny feelings. A great listen, even if you hate the shrieking girls. A great rock and roll live album.
I am a huge fan of Trip Hop so this was an easy listen. Love the vibe and her voicings. Each listen makes me want for more.
Absolutely LOVED this album. Great rock and roll and super energy. From 1973?!? What took me so long to find the New York Dolls! Totally waffling between 4 and 5 stars, but the heart wins out.
A good album with some recognizable songs, but not something I feel like I would come back to again. Maybe a couple of songs I’d like to repeat because I hadn’t heard them before.
What are the odds? Back to back Bob Dylan records. After Blonde on Blonde yesterday it's Highway 61 Revisited. Same result, I am nonplussed. Incredible lyrics? Sure. Great backing band? Absolutely. But is moaning voicings and songs from a day gone by just did not bring me in.
Just could not get into this album. I like rock and guitar driven music, but this one left me saying, "So what?" after many songs. No real rockers that grabbed me. I feel like I should have liked it more given the band's wide fan base. Maybe later albums are better>
I’d heard it before but this relisten was for some reason a breakthrough. It’s very chill but very layered and oh so cerebral. Liked it and rated it higher than I thought I would. Very good.
Good old school hip hop. Was grooving to most of the tracks.
Long album about missing your youth and anxiety over the state of the world in comparison to the nest you left. No super standout tunes for me, but it was a cohesive album.
Ok band but not my thing.
I think I had tired to listen to this before and bailed out after a few songs. I did listen all the way through this time. Even Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll could not earn this one a third star. Too many repetitive rhymes in a blue collar English accent for me.
Yay! A newer album. Knew the hits but not the rest of the album. Not bowled over but not dragged down, either.
My first Lana album. Thought it was a concept album at first. Heartful singing and stories. Good for a quiet, introspective night. Would try more of her stuff.
Stupid album cover but a really good album. Great swirling guitars and pop sensibility lyrics.
Yep, a pretty good album. Great to hear a female voice, there haven’t been enough
Pop rock from the 60’s with tinges of The Beach Boys. Varied instrumentation. That said, just did not land with me.
I can see the historical importance of the album and some of the songs did grab me. Fighting between 2 and 3 stars.
Some good songs. Always thought of the Eels as wildly experimental yet there’s some very good mainstream songs here. Susan’s House had me from the get go.
So much to unpack with this album. Gave it two listens and it probably needs more. The lyrics alone need study.
Holy 70’s, Batman! Double (triple, quadruple?) tracked vocals. Horns! Flutes! But THAT VOICE! It would have been a train wreck otherwise. Maybe I have a soft spot for easy listening.
Double albums are tough for me. It’s a long listen and I usually don’t have the time to go through it all at once. So my take-aways can speak to the cohesiveness of the album. So some great tunes here but I struggle to think of when I’ll relisten to the whole album again. Probably should be a two, but this guy is really so good.
Old friend Beth Orton. I listened the crap out of this album when I came out.
Another album from long ago. A good listen many years later. Such a strong voice!
Good album and great band. Saw Costello back in 88 or 89 when he did a solo tour with Nick Lowe opening.
An old fave. So glad I got this on a chill Sunday. Great folk. Love his voice and delivery.
Gave this album a good listen much of it while reading along with the lyrics. Plenty of politically charged commentary of life in America as a person of color. Musically did not stir me, however, and not worth a re-listen for me.
A pleasure to listen to the complete album, not just the (big) hits.
Just wow. Every time. Relistening to this is simply fantastic.
Ugh. This was a very tough listen. DId not like this at all.
Love Radiohead but this is not my favorite by them. A little too out there with the experimental sounds, especially the processed vocals on Thom.
I’ve enjoyed SFA before, but not this album. Ok but did not knock my socks off.
Interesting music. ALL electronic, too. But did not light my fire. Can see how this was the underpinning bed of some of the EMD music today.
Haven’t listened to the whole thing in a least two decades. Takes me back to high school days. Some incredible songs, but it’s just too much other stuff I don’t need.
Came out when I was in high school and still stands up. Great album.
Good old R&B, British-style. Practically an homage to the old greats. Good listen but no urge to relisten.
Musically good. Lyrically no good. Not down with the nonsensical songs. Definitely down with the pro gay songs. Just not enough to like here.
Old school! Never listened to the whole thing. I think I will stick with the hits. The skits we’re annoying.
Love his voice but this did nothing for me.
Plenty of guitar, but not much I really got into. Long, long periods of instrumental work that just didn't do it for me at all.
More Bowie that gets me in a good place. Surprised once again with these Berlin albums as to how much instrumental music is on it. Much broader use of instruments on this one compared to Heros. Liked it.
Generally liked it. The songs did all start to sound the same on the third listen. Thats said, a solid album with guitar work that's largely missing from today's rock.
Can’t call this country. This is a pop album. And it’s a good one. Great voice, good lyrics, and good production. Worthy of a relisten and then some.
An ok album, sure. Did I like it, yes. But relisten factor is a bit low for me.
Enjoyed this much, much more than the Stooges Raw Power. Just had a better feel and songs.
Very good album. Is re-listenable for sure. Has some great storytelling. Joni is great.
Did not like this. Had guitars, horns, keys - all of the things I like, but it just did not work.
Fine old Rock & Roll. Not a bit re-listen album for me
Angry, dissonant rock. Maybe I wasn’t in the mindset to listen, but I did not like.
Too long. Too much of the same vocalizations. Yes she’s talented but I wasn’t feeling this.
Liked this very much. Couple of well known hits but some good gems in there, both Bluesy and Rock & Roll.
What's not to like?
Thought, or hoped, I would like this but did not. Not a fan of the affected voice he used at times. Musically somewhat interesting but collectively not for me.
Very cool album. Diversity among songs. Folk plus? Rock folk with some studio effects but not overkill.
Love Muddy. Heard some of the track from this album before. The guy playing the harp (James Cotton?) is fantastic. Just great blues music.
Did not like. Industrial grind music. Not for me.
Thought it was pretty good! Unlikely to listen again but I liked what I heard.
Very chill but good.
Only two track but divergent themes. Fusion jazz.
Beautiful.
A break up album like no other I've heard
Some sublime tracks on this one. Just great.
Did not like.
Imagine is an amazing single. The rest of the album left by bored. Did I like it? Kinda. Did I hate it? No. Would I listen again? No.
A fine album but low relisten probability for me.
Did not know this was a double album. Many hidden gems like Storms, plus the big, big hits Sara and Tusk.
Great ladies right and empowerment album. But musically not for me.
Nothing really thrilled me on the album Best for me was The Figurehead.
Loved the first half but them it dropped off for me on the second half. A great listen.
Bowie! With back up singers and full backing band!
